RIGHT AWAY, without hesitation, he told me about it AND offered to repair it at no cost (which he did, once the weather warmed up a bit). Looks as good as new. Now THAT is Integrity! Joe estimated $450 for the job and warned me that it would be more if they found damage after removing the shingles, which we both thought was quite likely. They found that one section of decking and one rafter were badly rotten. They took pictures of the damage, sistered in a new rafter, replaced the rotted decking section, took pictures of each repair, and replaced all the shingles, flashing, etc. as I'd requested. The total bill for the job was just $530 ($80 over the original estimate without the decking and rafter repair). I am very happy with the work done and the price.

Let's start with our first impression: Back in August or early September, we stopped into Vlietstra Brothers Pools & Spas to ask a few questions and schedule our closing. The woman working the front counter was obviously very tired and didn't really want to deal with us. I asked about ordering a custom spa cover. No, they can't do that. Hmm... pools and spas, right? Ok, what is your payment structure for pool services, such as a fall closing? She had no idea what I meant, and was insulted when I asked my husband if I had said it too politely... snapping at me before I finished my sentence, like I was going to call her stupid or something. Nevertheless, we gave her the benefit of the doubt. We all have off days! So, we scheduled our closing for the 22nd of October, 2021 and she wrote it into their schedule book. Fast forward to Friday, 10/15: I received a call mid-afternoon from a woman named Michelle (not the same woman, I am told). She wanted to know if she could schedule the closing for Monday, 10/18. Well, we weren't prepared and it's 5 days early, but hey, why not? I was told they work hourly, so we'd just throw a few more bucks their way for closing, as we hadn't finished everything we'd hoped to have prepped for them yet. However, we did spend a large part of our weekend getting as much water drained as we could in the time we had left, laying out the cover, and prepping the deck area for them. 10/15, 10/17, and 10/18: I called and left messages with 3 different extensions asking that someone call me ASAP. I just needed someone to call me before they came to my address. All we wanted was to discuss where everything was located, and what we had done ahead of time. Maybe even what we expected of them, since no one had asked us what exactly we wanted done.... By the time I did get in touch with someone at Vlietstras, I was informed my pool closing was completed and the service tech had already left. This was Monday, 10/15, at 9:27am. I work close by and ran home, as I had intended to do to speak with the service tech. Here's what we found: 1. My diving board, which had never been removed, was sitting in the back corner of my detached garage. This is not where the pool equipment is located. This is not where anything for the pool is located. What business did this tech have being in that building, let alone traversing a mountain of equipment to sit my diving board in the back corner??? So, in hindsight, this still absolutely infuriates me. This person went into a closed up building, saw there was no pool related equipment, and continued in and around. 2. After removing part of the now installed safety cover, we discovered the jets had not been blown out, and that the water level still was above them. If you're reading this, it's probably because you have a pool. You probably then know that water left in those pipes over the winter will freeze here in Michigan. No anti-freeze in anything. That can crack the pipes, fittings, your filter, your pump, and any other hardware connections that are in the way! 3. They installed my safety cover that I've used for 4 winters, with new connections in my cement - not using existing ones. Yes, you read that right. They put several new anchors into the cement that surrounds my pool, even though the anchors that have been there for years and working were extended by us for them to use. 4. At this point, we're wondering: Is this some sort of master plan to get more business in the spring?? The phone calls: If you've been paying attention, I'm sure you can imagine we had some questions for this business. Michelle is apparently the scheduler *and* office manager. She admits she knows absolutely nothing about the workings of a pool, closing one, how pipes freeze, what a winterization or pool closing entails, etc. etc. As a result of her inability to discuss what we found had happened here, we asked that her boss (the owner) please call to discuss.... Michelle called us 3 times instead, to tell us this is how the do pool closings. Mind you, she didn't understand our questions and certainly couldn't answer how this wasn't causing loads of angry customers. As of 10/25/2021, my husband is still waiting for the owner to call him. So, after everything: We uncovered half the pool, drained the water down below the jets, added winter chemicals, blew out the pipes with our air compressor, dumped rv/marine antifreeze into the filter, pump, and all pipes, plugged the jets and skimmer pipe, and re-covered the pool ourselves.

I just purchased a 2019 Volkswagen Atlas on May16, 2026 from a dealership in Nunica, MI after…read moredriving it home back to Kalamazoo I noticed fluid leaking I thought it was from the radiator because the fluid was clear, 10 days later the check engine light came on saying check my oil level during these ten days I started hearing the brakes squeal. On May 21, 2026, I called Master Mechanics because they specialize in Volkswagen and other European vehicles. They couldn't get it in that day I had to wait until May 27, 2026, because they were booked up and Memorial Day was coming on May 26, 2026, that's when the check engine light came on. I paid 39.95 for them to check out my oil leak issue and I paid 39.95 for them to check out why my brakes was squealing when braking. Well, they said my brakes look fine and that the noise was coming come the belt tensioner. After leaving the shop my brakes were still squealing here and there by the time I get almost home the brakes are squealing more. Well, I had to go into the hospital for a procedure on my heart in two days. I said I will deal with this after my procedure and so I did I called them back and was told to bring it in for a recheck, well the mechanic comes to me outside where I was seating saying it's your brake pads and asks me to get in the vehicle with him while drives so I can show him what I hear while driving so off we go, he says to me I wasn't the mechanic who worked on your vehicle the first time I tell him that the other mechanics said the brakes were fine, so he hears what I was telling him about the brakes squeal noise he says yeah it's definitely your brake pads so we get back to the shop he says to me let me check it out some more so we don't have any more misdiagnose- miscommunications so he takes the vehicle out again with another mechanic in the vehicle with him they get back pull it in the garage, finally he brings the vehicle out and park it I walk over to him, so he's saying he wrote some notes and the men at the counter will be with me shortly eventually I get up to the counter and they guy at the counter says we looked back from when you first brought your vehicle in and we couldn't see the brakes! But it looks like the dealership changed the brake pads but used cheaper ones but yeah it's your brakes pad and we need to scuff your rotors, so I'm livid but I can't afford to get upset or stressed because of my heart failure so know he says and yeah you got another leak going on in the housing area around the oil filter, I paid 493.00 for the belt tensioner that had nothing to do with the squealing noise coming from the brakes because I googled this after I started hearing the squealing noise come back, the fact that I was told they couldn't see my brake issue the first time is insane when they specialize in my brand of vehicle!! I want a refund for that belt tensioner, my trust is out the door with this establishment, not to mention I brought my land rover to them back in the summer of 2024 about some issues I was having with it at that time they were informative and said I needed a new engine and they didn't want to put work into it and charge me for anything because the engine was failing already, which I kind of figured that because my timing chain was making a loud noise at the time. This experience was very irritating; they didn't offer any compensation on their lack concerning my brakes and charging me for something that was not the issue. This is not professionalism at all.

I don't let anyone else work on my car except Lowder's because I know and trust the owner, Bob, and I know that he will ALWAYS do right by me. He hasn't ever tried to pull a fast one on me (or any of my family or friends) like other mechanics do; he does what's actually needed or what I've asked to be done (IF it's legal of course but NOT if it's something illegal like putting a muffler on a vehicle that doesn't have a catalytic converter on it (or other stuff like that), because that's quite illegal!). He does the right thing, he always has that I know of and I've never heard anyone taking bad about him, EVER --- not even in high school. He's just and simply a great and honest man; and you can trust him. Oh! He WON'T give you some triple the price estimate and try to rip you off either, he's not like that at all. I refer people to go to him at Lowder's Automotive every single time someone is talking about having vehicle problems or the need of a good honest mechanic. He runs the office and front counter now and doesn't get under the cars anymore because he has some great people working for him there. He WON'T put up with a dishonest mechanic working in his shop either. I fully know that he would give them the boot too if they ever tried something like that! They work on lots of types of vehicles there and they're certified & licensed. And you can see the legal certifications and licenses posted there if you'd like to. He is an awesome person to know too. Talk with him awhile if you're wanting to know more about him and his business, I'm sure that he will fill you in on anything that you will need to know. He's been working on cars since we were kids. Oh, and BTW, he is still about Mopar too. Js. I'm a Chevy man myself but I don't hold the fact that he's into Mopar against him. LoL! So if you're into Dodge vehicles, especially big trucks, just bring that up and you're sure to have a nice conversation with him.
