Much better than an Apple Mac, a Mac Truck or even Return Of The Mac by Mac Morrison, this store feels like home because the girl I dated throughout my second year at college (swoon) who was an English major but looked more like Baywatch girl Yasmine Bleeth (but more tanned) (swoon) worked here. I actually bought plenty of stuff from here for her, for birthdays, Valentine's, whatever, because she got an employee discount, and that's kind of cheating, but the stuff here is great! As a non-discount person now, revisiting this store with not a single same person still working here, it's a little sentimental and not quite the same. The prices have nearly doubled in just a few years and it's not so easy to buy stuff here without that old discount. It's still a great store though with great make up. I've never had very much luck at this one. I really prefer the Tysons MAC. I was at this one last night for blush. The person helping me did fine with the blush. I did ask her for more blush options, like going rosier or closer to bronze, and she got confused and said, "Blush is blush." Then instead of giving me another blush, without asking she put highlighter on my high cheekbones, the bridge of my nose, and under my nose with her finger. It was caked on and then she didn't even think to blend it. I'm really tan. Highlighter is a silver white accent so I was surprised she wanted me to leave with it caked on. I just blended it on my own. Also, I already own MAC liquid and powder highlighter--so had she asked, I would've told her that I didn't need to test it. I didn't end up getting anything. Today I went to the Tysons MAC and had them do my blush colors. I think it's fine to come here if you're just getting refills (Boy Bait creme sheen!!!), but if you're testing new colors, go to the Tysons store. read more

Worst experience !! It was my first time trying MAC Products and they are great. But the customer service on this store at the fair oaks mall is POOR!!! I Never felt so uncomfortable and the worst thing is that happened twice and with the same MAC representative. 4 stars. I had a positive experience. I went there asking for the lady that helped me last summer, but she doesn't work there anymore. Bummer. However, the lady asked me what sort of look I was going for. She asked a few more questions, offered to assist and asked if I had 5 minutes and completely gave me an awesome, flawless, very natural look. She did not toss in extra items in her recommendation. She just happened to be one of the managers, but she was friendly, not like a wannabe Diva that I have dealt with in the past which was a turnoff. I purchased 2 items, total $60 purchase. I'm only giving these five stars to Tina, not the entire store and its associates. She provided stellar customer service and did an awesome job up selling on other products. I've worked for the Limited Corporation and she is exactly what customer service should look like when you enter a store. She created a great customer service experience by giving an opinion, introducing other products that I would have not considered on my own, and asking if I'm running out any other products. This level of experience or customer service, imo, is unusual for this location. Often the associates have limited experience...seem unsure..or box themselves into assumptions about what a customer may want/need. Even if you are not working on commission, every store has a goal to make and if you don't know how to sell, that's not good for business, the store and its associates. read more

As a customer of MAC for several years, I must say this one probably has some of the worst customer service I encountered. Associates are more concerned playing with their own hair/makeup and conversing with each other. Rude, total lack of customer service... was so displeased that I returned my purchase and will be purchasing from another location. Won't be shopping here again. I love MAC Cosmetics, but what I don't really love is the customer service at this location. Every time I am there I am made to feel like I am bothering them. That's not something I want to embrace when I am about to throw down $75.00 for foundation. My most recent trip involved needing a new eyeliner brush. I knew what I needed and I knew what number I was looking for. I walked over to the brush section, picked one up and instantly I had an employee on me, removing the brush from my hand saying "I'll take that, what do you need?" I felt uneasy and it seemed like she was insinuating that I was perhaps going to leave without paying for said brush. The rest of the transaction was harsh and quick. There was no additional browsing time, I was not asked if I needed anything else. She simply walked away, rang me up and walked away. MAC brushes last forever but the only brush I am super picky about it the 209 - since I just replaced that one, I think I'll just stick to Ulta for everything else. read more

Arnold, one of the members of the staff here, deserves an F for unbelievably bad attitude. I came on a Saturday afternoon so the associates all had their hands full. The other nicer Mac makeup artists asked if I needed help and then desperately looked for someone who was available. Arnold was suggested as a person who could in just a little bit. Seeing me standing there another person asked if I had been assisted, and I said that Arnold was named as the person who was in line to assist me. The woman said something to him, and he said, making sure I heard, "Well she has to wait." Excuse me? I don't mind waiting, but that was not necessary. 1. He averted eye contact, avoided me the entire time. 2. He didn't have the courtesy to say, "I'll be with you in a X minutes." At least acknowledge me. 3. And he responded in that way to his co-worker. It would be very disturbing to me if I were to discover that the manager was on the floor at the time that he behaved in this way and didn't reprimand him for his actions. Though the other workers seem good at what they do and much more customer-oriented, the fact that someone with such a rude demeanor could be hired here--in an environment where customer service is numero uno--makes me doubt the management of this particular location. read more

Whenever I come to this location I feel instantly welcomed. The team there is very kind, warm, genuine, and knowledgeable. They are always flexible and quick to pick up on subtle cues that indicate I'm in a rush-- or that I'm looking for a little more help and guidance. I met who I presume is the manager today, and she helped me pick out a customized six pan palette and I couldn't be happier. She listened to my concerns, needs, and wants, and built me the most beautiful palette I own. She even took the time to set it up for me while I paid. Thank you for all of your help! read more

I usually love this place and come here whenever I come into town. However, this time I was not satisfied at all. The make-up artist was named ESQUIRE. He was a gentleman, who I think had just started there. He didn't really discuss with me about what kind of look I was going for. He basically asked me one question and was tight-lipped the rest of the time. Once I looked up, I realized he had made my eyes DARK GREEN, I looked like an alien and I was going to a formal wedding! I was not happy! Every time I tried to say something to him or another employee about not being happy, he made it seem like this is what I wanted and that it wasn't his fault. I was trying to decide between 2 shades...saw no testers, and still no one who was "working" offered any assistance. I waited 45 minutes to get my make up done while other people were being seated before me without any appointments. They arent the nicest. If they feel like your not going to buy they wont help you. I walked around for 30 minutes when i went (not a lot of walking its a small place) and after 30 minutes someone asked me if I needed help. They put me on a waiting list and I didnt hear a word back. The ONLY reason I stick around and wait there is for Lindsay. She is the sweetest, most patience make up artist i've ever had. She is great at doing make up, very understanding and extremely talented. If I go, I only go to her. She is DEF worth it for any occasion. I've gone to her for wedding, dates and business events. I had an overall pretty good experience here. When I went in, I had to wait about 5 minutes to be helped but once someone noticed I was waiting I was taken for my makeup application right away. When it was explained to me how the walk up applications were different than the scheduled appointment I was a little confused but it made sense by the end of my time there. This place is awful. Anytime you go in they either don't have time for you or recommend the wrong things. One time I ran out of lip liner that complements the Russian Red lipstick. I needed another but at the time I didn't remember the name of the lip liner as I had forgot to check before leaving. I tried looking for it, and tried to ask for help. Each person quickly glanced at me, gave me a random suggestion and then walked away. So I went with their suggestions and ended up with a lip liner that was a completely different color. Basically, if you need makeup either go to a different store like Sephora which is across from MAC or go to a different MAC with workers that are actually helpful and care about customers. read more

I do like this MAC store, but I say beware going on weekends and Fridays. The place gets swamped, there are only like 3 associates and one register open. If you want a more hands on experience, I recommend going weekdays around 5 or 6 because there is a lull in traffic flow because people are going home and most teens already left, yet there are more associates. I will say their customer service is very helpful. If you get to meet them, Markie and Grace are wonderful and are great at helping pick complimentary shades or new stuff to try. read more

I went here with a friend to get a lipstick that my mom has and she was also trying to pick up a specific lipstick. The store seem understaffed we were told that she would be with us soon and the girl never came back. There was no one at the register. After waiting a while I was looking for the lipstick myself. when I went in the the drawer to see an associate almost slammed the drawer on my fingers and ask if I needed help and I said yes and she told me another person would be with me when she was done. I was really offended and upset. We were in the store for at least 25 to 30 minutes just waiting and the only response from any of the associates we got was rude and misleading. I have never been in a mac store before and I will probably not return. read more

I've always wanted to go to MAC and when I did, I decided to take my mom and sister with me. They usually buy their foundations from there so I came in with an open wallet, honestly -- I wanted to buy some makeup. We walked in, it wasn't as busy but we patiently waited. Even once we walked in, no on greeted us, even acknowledged that they'll be with us in a few. We waited for five minutes by the foundation, I walked around waiting. My sister even asked a staff who happened to walk back and forth between the backroom and the lipsticks. She clearly wasn't helping a customer. My sister knew what she wanted, what number and just had a quick question regarding my mom's coverup. She said she was busy helping a customer and will be with us next. We waited another five minutes, when we noticed another customer walked and immediately helped. I don't know if it is "a look" we need or we didn't scream out money but we clearly wanted to buy something. It ruined our mood, waiting for over ten minutes. I know MAC isn't known for their customer service but seriously - at least acknowledge your customers. Geeez! We ended up leaving, went to another MAC close to home the following week (Macy's Springfield) and bought everything there. read more

Despite the Yelp advisory, this Mac is still there! Very much open at Fairoaks mall. This place is just great. Tina, the manager was so nice to me after a horrid experience at the Sephora across from it. I love shopping for new makeup and the fact that Tina took time to thoroughly help me made me so happy. So walked me through ever thing and gave me so many options as well as small take home samples to experiment at home and find what I want in a foundation. Thank you Tina I hope you get recognized for the amazing MAC cosmetics employee you are. Your help was so greatly appreciated, and I hope very much that this gets you acknowledged. My initial experience here was horrendous. No, seriously. I live overseas and had my wedding in Virginia, which is a challenge in itself. With that said, I didn't have much time for makeup trials and what not so I figured I'd go to MAC (I've been a loyal customer since 2006) and they'd take care of me. I'd never been to the Fair Oaks location but it was the closest to my wedding venue. Well, I walked in and felt like I was a burden to the staff. I mentioned that I'd like a trial for my wedding (which was a few days later) and I was told that there was no guarantee that the person doing my trial would do my wedding makeup. So I had to take the initiative and suggest the employees take a look at their schedule to see if I could possibly get the same person to do my make up for my wedding trial and my wedding day...what a concept! I was polite but was given an attitude for no reason that I knew of by an employee there, Chrystal, who I believe is sadly one of the managers. Long story short, I stayed patient and was finally helped by Arnold, another manager. Although the trial took forever because Arnold had to keep stopping to ring people up (why he was the ONLY employee who could ring people at the register remains a mystery to me!), he really listened to me and I left my trial appointment happy. Long story short, Arnold is a diamond in the rough! Holistically, that particular MAC store is terrible! I felt like I was in an assembly line and agree with the other reviews about being ignored. But let me tell you - Arnold made me look and feel like a princess on my wedding day! He took me to a little back studio they have and took his time perfecting my wedding look. He also did my maid of honor and she looked FABULOUS! I recommend making an appointment with Arnold if you venture out to this location! Be patient and he will take care of you! 2 stars for this MAC store but 5 stars for Arnold! read more

My experience at this specific store was very unfortunate and just ruined my mood for the rest of my shopping experience at the mall. I walked in with my family members and noticed two employees behind the register and one assisting a customer. It was a busy Saturday afternoon so I understand that I may not get help immediately so I suggested that we walk and browse until someone is available to assist. One of the ladies came by and greeted me as she reached for a product and stated that they would get to us soon. She smiled and I said thank you. Eventually the other employee behind the register started walking around and we asked if she was available to help and she said in a minute. So we waited a little bit longer until we noticed the same employee picking up products and putting them back. We were puzzled because she didn't have a customer around her up until she started talking to another customer about what she was looking for. At this point I was annoyed because the customer came in after us and clearly ignored us. I brought my mother to the store because she wanted to get a makeover and my sister was looking into makeup for her wedding. I insisted that we go to MAC since everyone I know uses their products. But I couldn't get past the way the employee overlooked us. Customer service is what drives the sales in the store not the products alone. When employees are not properly trained or equipped with the basic standards of good customer service (greeting customers, eye contact, smile etc) then they should not be working on the floor. I train employees at hotels and this is something that will deter your new customers. If staffing is an issue and you can't remember who was next then I suggest the company get a ticket counter machine. Maybe then employees will remember to smile at their customers. read more

For many years I stayed away from this location specifically because of the customer service. Today (especially being Black Friday) I was greeted and assisted by a breath of fresh air. Josie was friendly, knowledgeable, and incredibly helpful. She asked about my personal preference when it comes to how I wear my make up and didn't shove or push to sell any additional products. Every time I walk in there I'm waiting forever to get helped or even acknowledged. The store manager is beyond rude! Definitely not going in there no more! If I could give 0 stars I definitely would. This MAC location is one of THE worst I have ever been to for one reason only: the customer service. I'm sure there are a couple of good people who work there, but I have yet to meet one. I recently went in on Black Friday and some lady has left her Wet Seal shopping bag on the check-out counter at the back of the store and I witnessed one of the employees pick up the Wet Seal bag with an absolutely disgusted look on her face, look at her co-worker and say "is this a back-to-MAC from someone? In a gross Wet Seal bag?" (back-to-MAC is when you bring back empty product packaging to get a free lipstick in return). I just found that to be very rude and condescending. But that wasn't the worst thing to happen. I then came back later on Black Friday because I forgotten to pick up a couple of lipsticks I meant to purchase. I walked in and went straight to the lipsticks and started picking up the lipsticks I wanted and setting them down so I could get someone to come over and show them the lipsticks I was interested in so that they could go grab them for me and set them aside for me at the check-out corner in the back as they usually do. This rude employee came over to me, grabbed a lipstick from me that I was swatching and grabbed the others that I had put down and started putting them back. He then proceeded to speak to me in a very rude way asking me if I needed any help and I then asked him "Do you guys have Cyber lipstick so I can swatch?" and he then said "I'll look".. he then proceeded to look and it took him a while and I then jokingly said "It's hard to find.. there are a lot of lipsticks, I looked for it for a while" and he then said in an extremely rude tone of voice "No honey, it's a dark berry color, I know what it looks like" WELL APPARENTLY NOT IF IT'S TAKING YOU FOREVER TO FIND IT. He then said rudely again "I guess I'll have to mark one off just so you can swatch it.." and then walked away. I then overheard him talking about me to one of his co-workers saying "yeah I have to mark this lipstick off just so she can swatch it" and then rolled his eyes. He then came back maybe 10 minutes later with the lipstick and handed it to me and I asked just to make sure "Can I swatch this?" and he laughed at me and said "Yeah, that's the whole reason I just went and got it for you", well okay then. He then completely ditched me all together without offering any further help. This girl then came up to me and asked me if I needed any help and I let her know the shades of lipstick that I wanted to purchase and she grabbed them for me and I went to the back of the store to purchase. And there he was again. He asked me if I was ready to check out and I nodded yes and he honestly seemed so shocked that I was actually going to buy something. I don't know what it is, but MAC employees always have this annoyingly condescending attitude and they always treat me like I'm shit and as if I can't afford their products and therefore won't buy anything. It's absolutely ridiculous. I highly recommend skipping this MAC location completely if you don't want to leave feeling bad about yourself. read more

I'm giving this store 3 stars. A part of me wants to give the associate who helped me (Markie) 5 stars because she was amazing! however, the only reason she helped me is because the person who was supposed to help me obviously forgot about me. I walked in around 2 on a Wednesday, there was pretty descent traffic in there so I knew I'd have to wait a few mins for help which was no big deal. I thought I was going to be helped by a guy who worked there when I asked for lipstick & he went to the back to get it.. well I didn't even know they had it because he didn't he bother to let me know. I had to ask him 10 mins later. I asked him to help me with my eyebrows & I guess I wasn't as aggressive as the older lady who walked in after me because he had her sit down in the chair while I was sitting there like a lost puppy. I literally was in there for a good 30 mins at this point & just walked out. I debated on going back, but I gave it another shot 10 mins later. I was looking like a lost puppy still & finally Markie came up & asked if he still hadn't helped me.. she was perfect & definitely gave me what I needed. however, the other associate was not my favorite. I do agree this store is a hit or miss & really depends on the person you get to help you. read more
