After several visits to this Macado's I decided to finally write a review about this extravagant restaurant. According to their website, "Macado's started in downtown Roanoke, Virginia, in 1978 and became popular for its eclectic decor and moderately priced food, especially with the college crowd." The chain emphasizes: "a comfortable and enjoyable atmosphere for a diverse clientele, including families."  Today, as I was seated in the booth the Host had brought me to and observing the Macado's logo on the paper napkin laying on my table, I thought to myself: What is the meaning of the "Just to be there" located under the restaurant's name in its logo? And I thought to myself that It's possible "Just to be there" might be a phrase associated with the feeling of camaraderie or the comfortable atmosphere that Macado's aims to provide, and thus a popular spot for people of all ages and social classes to get together, eat, socialize, and be merry. I remember the very first time I ate here. It was for a lunch invitation from a good friend of mine I hadn't seen in a while. The first impression I got of the place was amazing. I loved the building where the restaurant was housed and all the interesting decorations. It was almost completely full from the lunch crowd, yet this provided a warm and cozy feeling knowing that so many people had taken the time to come eat here even though they knew it would be crowded. I was fascinated by the large and extensive menu, and after carefully reviewing it, ordered the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Burger. It came with half a pound of meat, a soft fresh bun, and a whole bunch of krinkle fries. It was so big and delicious I can't forget how full I was when I finished eating it. Just eating there for the first time and I couldn't wait to return. I had set such high expectations of the place that many of the other times I visited the place I was disappointed. It could have been by the lack of training of the servers on the Knowledge of and explaining menu items, or by the timing on how to serve them. Or it could be by a mistake from the cook in cooking or preparing an item. Like today, I ordered Bang Bang Shrimp as an appetizer and the shrimp arrived overcooked almost to the point of burnt with the Assian Crisp Noodles a bit stale. So much so that I had to ask to see the manager to formally complain. The manager was a friendly young lady who listened to me and admitted the shrimp could have been fried before they had just changed the oil. And she came up with possible solutions to the question: "What can I do to make it right?" Of which I choose for her to not charge me for the burnt shrimp and the bad dining experience they had caused me. I went on and ate the Lone Ranger sandwich with Onion Rings that were cooked right, and because of the manager's handling of the situation in such an effective way, I am sure to return, because there is something about Macado's that makes you want to "Just to be there." read more

Queso app was not hot, just lukewarm nacho cheese & salsa. Chips were stale. Fries were over cooked. Bobagger had barely any meat but overly topped with lettuce to cover it up. Waitress disappeared so had to wait forever for check, when she did return she was freshly perfumed so probably was out smoking. Only good thing was burger had no pink & plenty of blue cheese. I did not dine in but placed an online to go order. The prices were fair. There is nowhere to park here, not even a space for a quick in and out to go pickup so be ready to park and walk. The layout of the resturant is complicated and I was unsure of how to enter, there is a nice patio and outdoor seating. The building is new and clean. I found the pickup desk and stood there for 5-6 minutes before anyone showed up. Sandwich was good, they followed my instructions of placing the slaw on the side. Slaw was fresh and had a good flavor but was long and stringy. The macaroni salad was dry. The kids portion of fries was tiny but I guess that's what you get for a kids portion. All in all it was fine, but I wouldn't go out of your way to dine at this establishment. read more

I have been going to MacAdo locations for over 30 years. We don't live in Virginia anymore but whenever we are home we always visit one. Our waitress at this visit was good. We got tea and water to drink. We had chips, dips and things for an appetizer. My mother in law had a quesadilla, my husband had a sandwich off the incredibly long sandwich list. Our server was the only saving grace at this restaurant. But let's start from the beginning. It's a Monday night and it wasn't super busy so we were excited to try Macado's! We weren't greeted as much as we were glared at while the hostess yelled at a different customer about a pickup order. We were seated after the yelling was over and our server was very nice and took our drink order, the kids menu advertises that kids can receive a free light-up cup by ordering a milk shake or signature lemonade. We ordered milkshakes and the server was confused on why my kids were excited about a cup, after explaining what the menu said in big bright letters, she stated they didn't have those cups. Ok, no big deal and we moved on with our fiasco. After we ordered our appetizers, we caved and still decided to let our kids get milkshakes and then our server informs us that the blender was broken. Now's the time when we are placing our food order....ordered chicken tenders for one of my kids and they are out of them, changed the order to a BLT with a side of fruit salad but guess what, they were out of fruit salad too! At this point I had to ask if there was an issue with their food delivery and our server informed us that the truck arrives on Tuesdays. So the moral of the story is apparently don't eat here on Mondays? read more

Waited twenty minutes for the order to be "ready" only to find it was sitting there in a bag the entire time. No one finished their food - it was cold and gross. After living down here for about a year I finally tried this place. The menu was way more complicated than I expected. So many options!!!! Ambiance was typical sports bar and even early on a Saturday night before they got busy it was LOUD!!!! Would not care to come during a popular game. I was so happy to see French onion soup on the menu. I haven't had one in a LONG time and a decent one on even longer. The broth was a bit watery but at least had really good flavor. I would prefer it being served in a wider brimmed container with bread on top but this wasn't bad. I asked for the cheese well broiled and you can see in the photo that didn't happen. It was still tasty as it was at least melty. My friend got the turkey, bacon and cheese sandwich on rye (not sure if the name) and it looked like a good sandwich. I would have preferred it toasted, but it wasn't my meal I got the taco salad and it was quite surprising. Loads of toppings, avocado was plentiful (I think I had about a quarter of a small avocado), and it was RIPE!!!! I have gone to Hispanic restaurants that haven't gotten that right before. Only disappointment was that it said it came with tortilla chips and it did not. Couldn't really ask our waitress as she was slammed with a 16 top at some point and we were not covered by someone else. No room for dessert as the salad was so big. And I took about 1/3 home. Not wanting to inconvenience anyone we decided to take our business to Pok -E-Joes. Pretty disappointing food. Ordered the Macado - listed as an "Overstuffed Sandwich" on the menu- and received nothing close to what was pictured. Also ordered a cashew salad which had no cashews. went to the Macadoos in Vinton. Stood at the counter for five minutes before some girl came out and said what you need. ? No welcome no how are you just, what you need? I said I would like a table, please. She grabbed a menu and just walked off so I did follow her. I said that the table for 12 minutes and no one came to ask me if they could help me or what I would like. So I got up to leave. I asked the bartender if there was a manager there and he goes yeah somewhere would you like me to get him. I told him exactly what happened and I said and I'm leaving. The absolute worse take out experience ever! A quick breakdown: 1. Placing the order: When the hostess said it would take 30 minutes, that should have been our clue. When asked, she went on to say that she sometimes has to tell the cooks, who may be out back smoking and talking, that customers are waiting on their food. As well, she has to tell them sometimes that they have to work because she is getting yelled at by waiting customers. Also, the male "manager", asked her to move over so he could use the register to take a large order even though we were standing there and ready. 2. The Wait: 45+ minutes, and after having to clarify our orders several times, distinguishing between the drivers who were also now waiting, and asking several waiters/waitresses about the status, our food was finally brought out. 3. The Order: Of course it was wrong (we ordered a Mona Lisa and a basket of fries, with extra fries as one of our orders). As I was bagging it up, I decided to look at it, and I had wings, and cold fries instead of what I ordered). So, I let them know it was wrong and they took the wings and then 10 minutes later, brought the sandwich. I requested that I get hot fries again, as I had already said, and then after 5 more minutes, received warm fries. I asked to speak to the manager, but was told she was too busy to speak to a customer. Savannah, refused to speak to us (mind you that the guy that was at the register earlier identified himself as the manager. But, I could see at least 5 people in the back joking and laughing and playing around. Between the smoking and playing around, and joking, are there potentially any health code violations at play? By the way, we threw the food away after all of that, because we were concerned about prep and cleanliness, and then had to go to another restaurant to get food. I can say without hesitation, that this is the last time we will ever visit a Macado's, at least this particular location. I don't think there was even any chicken in this product. It was all bread. It was terrible tasting. It left a greasy film in my mouth when I tried one of them, if you're looking for a place to have the worst eating experience of your life then this is the place for you. I brought them home and the dog would not even eat them. I don't know how they stay in business. I will never go back there again this was my second time, the first time was my stupidity. Look, you don't go to Macado's to get quick service. Anyone who lives in the area know this. It's not freaking fast food. You go to hang out with friends, make new ones, eat delicious sandwiches with more meat than really should be allowed and to see cool stuff the owner has collected for years on the walls. It is our own Hard Rock Cafe. I can think back on several great times I have had at Macados over the years. I am grateful we have one in Vinton now. Went on a Friday night at 5:30. Seated quickly and served well -- sure, it took some time to get out, but my husband ordered a burger. They take longer. The burgers, a relatively new item compared to their gourmet sandwiches, are gigantic and cooked perfectly. The fries were lukewarm, so perhaps they could have been hotter and crisper. My Coney Island sandwich was wonderful. When we left, there was a waiting list and line at the register. Go hungry, because the portions are huge, and the prices aren't. They have amazing mixed drinks, as well. Welcome to Vinton, Macados. So grateful to have you. My wife and I stopped by here Saturday afternoon about 330. This was our first trip to this location but we have tried the other two locations previously. The location looks very appealing. Large outdoor area featuring a bar and fireplace. The parking is a little terrible as there isn't a lot of parking for how large the building is. There is overflow around the back of the building. When we entered there was no host or hostess. There was a couple in front of us waiting and a group of about five behind us. After a few minutes a waitress came by and said the host would seat us within five minutes. My wife and I opted to sit at a round table in front of the outdoor fireplace. We waited for close to 15 minutes before we ever saw a waiter or waitress and we were about to leave at the 20 min mark because no one waited on us at that point. As we prepared to get the waiter, Frank, approached the table and took our drink order and then we waited for what we thought was about 15 minutes, no drinks. He did bring our appetizer out and explained it would be free and he would check on the drinks. I did ask if the drinks would be coming out and if not we would just leave as we had been waiting over 15 minutes. His response was "no you haven't it's only been 12 minutes." This irritated us. The drinks did come out. My wife had a White Russian and I a Bloody Mary. She said it was a great White Russian. The Bloody Mary was 3/4 ice and there was no way the mix/alcohol was correct. We had our drink, paid and left. Not a fan of any of the Macado's locations. Same owner and I assume training program, which does not work. The processes are slow and broken and it appears the staff doesn't really need your business or know how to be polite. read more

The problem with the Macado's in Vinton isn't the food. The food is generally good and well-proportioned. The problem is the service. I've ordered carry out and brought two large salads home recently for myself and my partner. All the salads were fresh and by any measure large. And without any of the requested salad dressing. It is this sloppy and inexcusable lack of attention to detail that has soured our experience with Macado's in Vinton over and over again. We've eaten there dozens of times, and nearly always there is some issue that could have been solved with better training and management. We've continued to patronize them because of a lack of local options, which makes us part of the problem, so after this last unsatisfactory experience tonight I am going to swear them off for a good long while. The wait was pretty long and the mens bathroom had only one urinal that was super low and you need to point straight down to pee. Given this establishment many chances. Food nearly always comes out cold. Always wait about an hour for cold food, and at that point you can send it back and wait another hour or cut your losses and leave. On wing night you can expect to wait longer as there is supposedly only one frier and the kitchen staff does not plan ahead and have wings ready to go out. Absolutely awful waitstaff with one exception and that is Frank. The parking leaves a lot to be desired. Every slot will be filled and yet there is still room in the restaurant. We came in on Dec 1st after the Vinton Christmas Parade. There was a group of about 9 or 10 of us. The place was an absolute wreck when we came in. Numerous tables still dirty from previous customers. We waited for a good while. We were told that there were no tables to put us at. Of course not because they hadn't been cleaned off. We were then told that a table was finally being cleaned off. It never was. One person told our party that they were short handed and if we wanted a clean table, they would give us an application for a job. When a server with long false eyelashes found out how many, she rolled her eyes and said she didn't want to take us. We ended up waiting for 35 minutes for a table and half of our party left and went to the Tanglewood location. I have never experienced such poor service at any Macados location before. This is right down the hill from our house but if the service continues to be this poorly, I will consider making the drive to another. read more

This place is unbelievably poorly managed. We had a large party, with a reservation. It is now 2 1/2 hours and most of us still have no food, and those that do have food got it cold. We were not seated until over an hour past our reservation, and then the poor waitress was given NO assistance from anyone else in the restaurant. All of this is a management failure....from the owner through the management on site and training systems which resulted in one of the WORST RESTAURANT experiences ever by most of us in the party. Will not visit this location ever, probably not ever even give the brand a chance. I have seldom experienced such incompetence in my life. This was a failure EPIC proportions. I've been a customer of Macado's in Roanoke for many years and was excited when they opened at the Vinton location. I enjoy their Ragtime, Captain Hook, Bonnie & Clyde, Julius Cesar and several other sandwich offerings, including their Blue's Brother burger. Their macaroni salad is awesome, as is the coleslaw. There's times I've had to wait to be seated, but always worth it! If I know they're busy, I call in an order to go, and it's just as good! read more
