Macali Eye Clinic continues to be the best in the biz. These fine people deliver outstanding customer service and quick turnaround times. I have been a customer here for over five years and watched them grow. Macali always delivers the highest quality products and I have even seen a steady improvement in my vision during my years of wearing their eyeglasses. The staff has remained patient with me even when I come in frustrated from outside matters that had nothing to do with them. Last week, Joel rigged my broken pair together for me while my new pair came in. They lasted the entire week until I was able to go in and get my new pair. My glasses were there early, two days after we ordered them but his mending of my broken pair allowed me to go on a vacation without worry. Update- their team worked hard to correct the issue. really wish I could give this place a better review. My first two experiences here were amazing. But the third has left me in tears. I made an appointment to see the eye doctor on March 24 to obtain new glasses. I had to order both eyeglasses for reading and sunglasses for driving. Before my new lenses came in I got a call from the office asking about my prescription. I was in the middle of a project didn't quite understand what the office manager said and told him no I didn't want progressive lenses for my sunglasses but to do what was needed for my reading glasses. It took over 10 days for them to come in. Finally got my new lenses and noticed I was having trouble reading the computer screens and seeing while driving. Set appt on 5/9Well come to find out I have the wrong prescription. Went in to get it changed and found out because of the earlier conversation I would have to eat the total cost. Office manager contacted insurance and they were willing to allow me to pay a co-pay again. Order was placed. I called last week to find out they weren't in yet OK. Called on 28 May to find out the order was canceled with the lab and I was not given any notice or anything. Now I have to wait another seven days for lens.. If you have all the time in the world the wait, go here. Some of the office staff is amazing. But the overall experience I've had it's pretty sad read more

Had an appointment here the other day and it was my first time going to this eye doctor. Was able to get an appointment very easily and did this online. They called to confirm with me and go let me know what I needed to bring since this was my first visit. When I got there I was greeted warmly, filled out some paperwork and saw their technician right away! I was very surprised. Mind you I was an early appointment and there was no one else in the office but still. After that was completed I saw the doctor and he was very professional. I can't remember his name but he has black hair and very soft spoken but very knowledgeable. He explained to me my prescription I would be needing for my glasses. The sales person for the glasses was also great going over what my insurance would and would not cover is always appreciated and very helpful. I have been to so many different Doctors in my life and found that the Doctors were good but their staff was awful. I'm sure this has happened to anyone reading this. This is not the case here. Get ready to have a great Doctor examine you and then have an amazing staff stay right next to you and provide 100% of what you need. By the way...they have amazing frames in this place. Just had my first (and probably last) visit. They come highly recommended from my neighborhood group and the exam was very professional. Unfortunately I was quoted a $115 new patient fee and told contacts would be extra. (I wrote those exact words in my appointment notes to be sure.) Then I arrived and opted in to 4 additional tests for $75. Then they gave me trial contacts and said "oh yeah and there's an additional $99 fee for contact lens fitting." I said I told them when I made the appointment that I was coming in to update my contact lens prescription and Eddie told me it would be $115 plus contacts.... Not $115 plus $99 contact lens fitting fee plus contacts. Needless to say, they knew up front I was coming for an exam to update my contact lens prescription and I feel they pulled a bait and switch on the fees. The gentleman next to me went through the exact same thing and he walked out refusing to pay the second $99 "gotcha" fee for contact lens fitting. I can respect them having an addition fee but I can't accept that it was not explained up front. Patients beware. Make sure you know all the costs up front. They seem to do this bait and switch all the time as the "apprentice" which had to explain this to me said it happens all the time (and he's sorry it wasn't explained up front.) I had no choice but to pay the fee in order to leave with my prescription. Now that I have it I'll order them from 1800contacts and stock up so I don't have to go through this again. And for my next appointment I'll go somewhere else. Bummer. They were nice but that's just wrong not to explain costs up front. read more

Couldn't be happier with this office. I wasn't satisfied with my last eye doctor so decided to try Macali. I read previous reviews so was aware of any previous complaints and can say I didn't share any of those negative experiences. They were up front about my costs and insurance coverages so I was never surprised with the bill. The office is clean, modern, and comfortable. They offer modern technological equipment/tests for the most in depth view of your eyes (this was extra out-of-pocket expense but I'm happy I did it at least once). Every staff member I interacted with was terrific. They listened, shared insightful information and feedback and never left me waiting too long. I was passed around to multiple people throughout my visit, but I didn't see that as a bad thing. They all had different specialties and were sharing responsibilities to ensure patients were getting attention in a timely manner. Plus they all seemed to know me as well as the last person so I didn't feel like I was introducing myself every time either. Even my latest follow up on my contacts was great and easy. They do almost everything for you so you (the patient) don't have to work for your eye care. The only person I'm upset with is myself for not coming to the Macali team sooner. read more

Go somewhere else. Hidden fees everywhere. I went to update my prescription for contacts. I was charge an additional $99 fee for a contact lens fitting. I already wear contacts I know how to wear them. FYI the contact lens fitting consisted of them just watching me put my contacts on all of literally two minutes. Plus the first few times that I got contacts I had already had the fitting so I felt like this was unnecessary. Plus I was NEVER told up front about this fee. It was just tacked on my bill casually as I was checking out. That's just one of the hidden fees. Constantly a bait and switch with fees. Contacts that I've been ordering now they want to charge me an additional $90 and can't explain why it's now costing $90 more. This was my last visit at this place. All in all I ended up spending close to $700. And most of it was hidden fees. I do not recommend this clinic. They are not upfront with their fees and prices. read more

I have been to see Dr Macali for 2 years. The first year I had my exam and bought my glasses from them. $450 for bifocal glasses with inexpensive frames after insurance. The second year I had my exam but chose to go to Costco instead to get my glasses. $39 for Versace frames and bifocal lenses after insurance. I needed to get my prescription redone for intermediate distance on the bifocal instead of close up so I could get my glasses at Costco but the doctor office refused. They said I could get the lenses from them for my old glasses for $272. Costco was only $89 but Dr Macali office refused to give me a corrected prescription. I will find a new doctor in January that does not force you to buy the glasses from them at inflated prices. read more

Just a little about my experience with Dr. Neil Macali and staff: 1 - Rude staff, office manager Jerome made many condescending comments. 2 - Didn't honor agreed upon price for contacts, charged my credit card and refused to refund the difference. 3 - High pressure to add services to exam at a significant increased cost during exam. 4 - Wait time of 50 minutes prior to appointment. Love the new offices. Spacious, sparkling clean, and very well organized. I was seen promptly and all the usual tests, and some special ordered tests were done. Dr. Macali is warm, friendly, and very clear in his recommendations. He explains everything throughout the tests, and the results. The team here is equally talented as the Doctor. They work in concert and keep everything flowing smoothly. There is a very, very large assortment of really nice frames from which to choose, so plan on spending some time making your selection. There are many options for lenses (I don't wear contacts) and the team member working with you will explain each option and how much it costs. This is not the least expensive place to have your eyes examined, nor to obtain frames and lenses. However, I've been through the gamut of chains, Lens Crafters (lenses split in the frames) Eye Glass World (let's not talk about a truly horrible experience) Sears, Pearl, etc. Until finding Dr. Macali, I was completely dissatisfied with the eye exams and glasses I had in Florida. It took me ten years to find Dr. Macali who provides the same level of excellent care I once enjoyed in NY. The same for the frames and lenses from his office. Of all the pairs I have had from here, not one frame has broken, nor have any of the lenses scratched, and yes, I'm very hard on my glasses and do not go out of my way to treat them gently. I have no problem paying for excellence and quality and that is exactly what you are provided at Macali Eye Clinic. read more

By far the best experience we've ever had at an eye appointment!! Starting with my first call to the office, Eddie made the scheduling process so easy and fun! I Was able to get an appointment the very next day and scheduled my husband for next Tuesday! When we arrived at the office we were greeted immediately with a smile and eagerness to help us! There was no paperwork that had to be filled out (great surprise considering every doctors office you go to usually has 5+ pages), all that needed to be done was to read over 2 forms, select additional tests if any that you would want done and sign! Another plus....they were able to squeeze my husband that day at the same time as my appointment so he didn't have to come back on Tuesday!! The entire process throughout the appointment was fun, and pain free. Doctor Macali was very nice and friendly, the assistants were fun and down to earth people! Picking out glasses....that was pain free too, Esteban was phenomenal with picking out many options that he thought would be a nice look/fit for us, and we chose one immediately!! He explained our benefits (VSP) line by line, shared what the regular fee is and then what the fee is with our insurance! No hidden fees, no gimmicks! *** UPDATE: My appointment today was fantastic! Josue took great care of me. He explained everything thoroughly, apologized multiple times for the past experience, and took care of every need I had. My glasses were tightened, they fitted me for contacts that would perhaps work better for my comfort and vision, and they refunded me the over charge from my initial visit. I appreciate the time that was taken with me today. I will go back in a few days to pick up my trial contact as they didn't have it in my script, and then I will determine which brand I would like to stick with. Macali eye clinic has earned my business back after going above and beyond to ensure I was taken care of today. Thank you! Let me start by saying that this is my second year with Macali Eye Clinic, I had thought about switch providers since my first experience wasn't too great. This year, my experience was worse. I went in last Saturday morning, arrived early for my 9:45 appointment. I did not leave the office until 11:45. Some eyes appointments can run rather long, if you are getting glasses, etc. however, this was just an annual exam, I even opted out of dilation. Aside from the initial wait, I was skipped several times while I waited in the area they take you to for our contact fitting. Multiple customers were brought in, helped and taken back for the dr to check before me. At one point, Rebecca (who was fantastic) noticed and apologized, she assured me someone would be coming to get me right away. Then, we get to the billing part of my experience. I was over charged. When I called the following Monday to inquire about the charges, the gentlemen argued with me and told me it was correct. I asked that he please have someone else look into this further (as my insurance company advised me I was charged incorrectly) he said someone would follow up that day. I finally spoke with Jose yesterday (Thirsd. He apologized for being over charged and told me he would have a check for the refund waiting for me at the front desk. Last but not least, when I asked to have my very expensive Ray Bans (that I bought from them) tightened on Saturday, the guy who checked me out and charged me incorrectly proceeded to tell me to "look at the room" and told me it would be about a 45 minute wait to have my glasses adjusted. After a two hour ordeal, I didn't care to wait any longer. I have to go back I order to obtain my prescription, but after that -- I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I'm 21 years old and I have worn glasses since I was 5, and contacts since I was 10 and never have I had such a horrible experience. I was told I would need to go in 3 times for them to try to properly fit my contacts which they assured me is "normal" and charged me $100 for. Never have I had to go in more than once for contact fittings and they still never got my prescription correct. They tried to force me into buying daily wear lenses, which cost twice as much as biweekly lenses (which again I have worn since I was 10). I had to demand they give me biweekly lenses. They convinced me to pay an extra $150 for anti-glare on my glasses, which isn't anti-glare at all, it only works at night when you are looking at screens or television - and doesn't work well even then. Also never got my glasses prescription correct and being a working college student I really didn't have time to go in for a 4th time to have it fixed, so $400 wasted. Save yourself some time, energy, and money and just go to Target optical. They have never had a problem getting my prescriptions correct. For the most part the staff is friendly except for one men who I had to deal with, when trying to resolve these issues, he was rude and arrogant. read more

Staff did not note an allergy, despite continuously informing them of my allergy, and tried to put me in contacts that would cause an allergic reaction due to this poor professionalism. After spending two hours at the office, the staff lied to me about the doctors whereabouts and told me to schedule a new appointment to get done what I was supposed to during that visit. I was there for 2.5 hours, but I now have super comfortable daily lenses and some really cool new glasses.
