I have been coming to Macali for several years now. It went under new ownership in the past couple of years but it was seamless for me. My doctor, now Dr. Claiboine, Kyle and the staff are still awesome! They are very thorough here and offer absolutely no pressure add ons if you want them. This time around, I added the digital retina scans because I experienced sudden floaters recently. Dr. Claiboine reviewed the images with me in detail and at this time, it is not something I need to worry about which brought me much comfort. We did my usual contact lens and glasses exam. After getting the trial contacts in, you are free to leave or you can check out the wide array of glasses they have to offer. Otherwise, you can get a copy of the prescription to buy it elsewhere. Mohammad provides excellent and exceptional service. He truly cares and wants the customer to be satisfied with their glasses. My husband, children and I had our eye exam done here. We liked the male doctor. He was professional and great with kids. But the super star at the clinic is Mohammad in the glasses section. My husband ordered sunglasses and the lenses were a shade too light. He didn't want to cause any issues so he just kept it. Mohammad was helping another customer during this pick up time. He noticed that my husband didn't like the lenses but we left with the sunglasses anyways. 1 week later my husband got a call telling him to come back to the clinic because Mohammad ordered the darker lenses and said he could swap them out free of charge. After 31 years of visiting Dr. Macali I was beyond disappointed of my last visit. My eye exam by Dr. Noble was spectacular... She is an amazing optometrist and I highly recommend. When I went to purchase my glasses, this was a disaster... They do not let you know that Dr. Macali sold his business two years ago to a large firm from Dallas. They are in for the money grab. I picked up my glasses which they priced out at $1600 but thanks to insurance they would offer me a deal for $1100. I want to know if anybody in Central Florida has ever paid $1100 for glasses. Unfortunately, after 31 years, I took my prescription and went to another eyeglass dealer got the same glasses for $350. Let me be clear the eye doctor was spectacular. The eyeglass delivery was a scam. When I returned, they offered me a better deal telling me that they have to unfortunately "higher prices... It was worse than buying a car. I just went with my uncle and he said they gave him a pretty good eye exam, and they were helpful when it came to the frames, just a little bit of a snafu as far as billing because he was using his flex spending account, and something was incorrectly charged, but it looks like they fixed it... I received excellent service and care from Macali Eye Clinic. I needed to see a doctor after my small dog jumped over my head and unexpectedly scratched my eye. Seeing blood and swelling I knew that I needed antibiotic drops to help prevent an infection. My doctor was out for the holidays so I the called the Macali Clinic hoping to get an appointment. They were completely booked but out of kindness offered to squeeze me into their schedule. When I arrived they were very busy so I settled in for a long wait. I was surprised that after about five minutes I called to the back. I went through a few eye tests and a short time later saw the doctor. He looked over the results and gave me an eye exam. After telling me that "my dog got me good" he assured me that with proper care and a follow up appointment I would recover fine. He called in a prescription to my favorite pharmacy and all was good. read more

My husband and I have been going to this office for over 5 years for contacts and glasses. After this past appt we will never again. I have noticed each year the wait is longer and longer and I dread my annual appt. It's been getting so bad that I have to schedule a Saturday appt because I cannot just leave work for 3 hours which is how long this is taking. I went in on a Saturday - my appt was scheduled for 1030am. I arrived about 5-10 mins early and checked in. I waited in the waiting room until about 1045am and then was called back. The tech was quick and nothing out of the norm. I was put in the room to wait for the doctor at about 1055am. At about 1130am I'm like okay it's been 35 mins. I had to leave about 12pm (which is when the office closes anyway). I literally see no one so I walk up to the front desk to tell them that. So someone tells me the doctor will be in as soon as they can and that I'm the next patient. Okay so it is now 1145am - 50 MINUTES sitting there waiting and the doctor comes in. At this time I know there's no way I have time to do dilation. Also am I able to get this exam and contact fitting done in 15 mins?? This part did move quick. But I got to the fitting area and they didn't even have my prescription lenses for fitting in stock. From what I glanced I needed -7.25. I currently wear -6.50 now. So they had to to back to the doctor to ask what to do. But I was put into -6.00 for the fitting? That makes no sense to me. So rechecking was pointless because it's obviously going to be blurry and less than what I am even currently wearing. Okay so now I'm going up to the checkout and I paid $50 for something. I can't hear a thing because there is a huge plexiglass and it muffles the people behind the desk. She said I'm all set. I have insurance and I ask okay so they are being mailed to me? She asking what?? Umm my contacts? You know the sole reason of why I'm actually here??? Oh wait... had to go get the chart. So then all that had to be ordered and I had to check out AGAIN. And this point it's 1210pm. Why would I get an eye exam just because and not order contacts or glasses? I am just mine blown. Someone was profusely apologizing (office manager??). That there is a new system and people are training. Blah blah I don't care this is unacceptable. I work in healthcare. If people don't know what they are doing than someone needs to be directing them. Whether on the process or the technical IT stuff. So at this point I am told I can come back to do the dilation and won't have to pay again. I'm planning on finding another eye clinic on Monday and making an appt and I don't even care if I have to pay a copay again just to do the dilation because I'm never going back to this practice again. read more

My only negative would be that I was there for 3 hours. I had to call my job to tell that it was taking longer than I was told. When I set the appointment I asked roughly how long would it take and was told 1.5 hour. My other issue was I picked out glasses, payed and I thought I was done. Nope. I was sent to another room were I waited another 40 minutes to see the doctor. I was just about to walk out when he came in. Overall, staff was friendly and nice. The place was clean and the location was perfect for me. Price was a bit high and the process took way too long. This clinic thinks they are more important than you. The first time I visited I was there for two and a half hours because I had to wait for 15+ minutes between every aspect of my exam. When I was supposed to go for my latest visit, they cancelled my appointment simply because I did not confirm it. I have never visited another professional services group that will just cancel your appointment on you. They also pressure you into a bunch of additional tests that are not covered by insurance. Because they did not accept my insurance for contact lenses, they basically told me I could pay their very high prices or else I was on my own to figure out where to get my contacts from. If you want an eye doctor that makes you feel like they care about you as a person, this is not the place for you. read more

I am disappointed with this place, i assumed they would be a more upscale high touch , client facing, one stop eyewear/doctor-boutique. I paid a bunch of money for amazing frames and paid the big bucks for all the lens upgrade BS and never could wear these glasses. I felt the exam rushed and shoved out the door. The script was wrong and the lens measurements were wrong. After some fuss managed to get a second exam. This was a much better experience, the new doctor asked if I had been in an accident or had a life event like going through a divorce or something, because the scrip was completely different. My answer was, "no, but the other doctor went to fast." I started to think maybe I had a stroke or lost my mind or something. They made it obvious that they thought I was crazy. They re-did my glasses. They started my staring at my eyes and face from 2' away marking the glass with a black sharpie with no real measurement tools. They made the glasses worse by winging it and guessing and messing with axis. I threw the 1k glasses in the junk drawer and went to Target Optical with the same script and they nailed the glasses. They used real measurement tools, they were friendly and not arrogant. They did not make me question my sanity. I look at those glasses every day and I feel robbed on so many levels. Lots of good reviews of this place. I hesitated saying anything at all. I could have gone back a 6th time(stretched over 4 months), but I gave them all the opportunity to make it right and they failed. I was sick of the dance and wanted to move on, but it is frustrating to think about the experience. read more

I have been going to this location since 2002 and Dr Macali is fantastic. The staff is also accommodating and super helpful. I do have to go into the office 2 or 3 times a year so I get to see them more often then most. The frames are higher end, but they do have a lot of options. They talk through the upgrades available and why it is good or not good for you to choose to get them. I always get glasses since I can't do contacts, but they have a separate office for contact fittings. They offer a lot of new testing that I have not heard of from others that go to different eye doctor so it makes me feel comfortable that I am getting the best care possible. read more

This practice is so awesome they actually stayed open later for me to accommodate an eye exam because I travel so much. That is customer service. I would not recommend that office. I had an issue following to my eye exam with them. They indicated -2.75 on my right eye and -2 on my left then I made my glasses with them and I also had an issue as they did not cut the glass on the right side to make them normal. I went to see my doctor in my native country and he said that my correction was totally wrong. I have -2.25 on the right and -1.50 on the other side. read more

Left this place after being told they "couldn't find" my husband in their Cigna database... with the insurance card in their hand. Took my son out of school, took the day off for this appointment and their employees are too incompetent to check the global database, so we BOTH missed out on our appointments. Cigna had to call this office to tell them how to do their job. Wasted my entire afternoon and they lost a family of patients who all needed glasses or contacts. No real apology , just oops our bad... we didn't check the entire system. After this they offered to have me come all the way to back to their office to be seen. After I've just driven there and back home again wasting gas and time for absolutely nothing. read more

I have reviewed this business before with a 5-star rating. I am downgrading my review now because I feel the business, while friendly and with good diagnostics, seems run to push sales and maximize revenue from lens purchases, whether needed or not. I schedule annual eye exams for wellness check, but only buy contacts and glasses every 3 to 5 years, only when needed for wear or prescription changes. Both contacts and glasses are one year old. This time around, my glasses prescription changed very slightly: the doctor suggested I get new ones. As for contact lenses, the office did not do routine contact lens checks without selling the whole contact fitting fee of $89, which I feel is either a lapse in medical care or over-selling. And lastly, the office said their contact lens prescriptions "expired" after a year, so if I needed to call in a replacement order I would need to come in for an appointment first. I had to be forceful to push back on the contact lens "fitting" charge: twice. The staff seemed astonished that I neither wanted to get new contacts nor that I wanted to visit the optical shop for new glasses. My previous optometrist included the contact lens check as part of the annual eye exam and offered clear recommendations on whether or not lenses needed to be changed due to wear or prescription. They also offered ultrasound cleaning of lenses. They offered freely that my lenses were good for an additional year when that was the case. Macali Clinic seems set up to provide good healthcare except for contact lenses, but selling glasses or contacts seems to be the expected outcome from every checkup. And firm pushback is needed by the patient to avoid "fitting" fees not suited for existing lens wearers. Lastly, Florida law makes contact lens prescriptions valid for 2 years, not 1. I don't like feeling like my healthcare provider is my adversary. read more

I have to say that the staff here is excellent. Everyone is just real cool and and great to just talk to while your getting your exams or purchasing eye wear. They are a bunch of true professionals. I haven't had this sort of hands on treatment since I used to visit my eye doctor as a kid growing up in Miami. I saw someone's comment about the unorganized and rude staff, so I went in thinking that I may have to deal with being a bit less than pleased. What I found, however, was that EVERYONE was courteous and kind. I was greeted by 3 people smiling and welcoming me to the office. Dr. Macali was quick to come into the exam room once my initial tests had been completed. He was very responsive to questions and made sure that I understood what he was explaining to me. The opticians were amazing and got me two sets of frames I love. Turnaround was slightly longer than a week. I'll definitely be going again. read more

Is it bad that Dr. Macali slightly reminds me of the Doctor from Parks & Rec? Of course, he is much nicer :-D I had a great experience at this location. It was recommended to me for my annual eye exam, and I'm glad it was. The recommender mentioned how thorough the team is, and that is an accurate statement. I interacted with about 6 or 7 staff, and they were all pleasant to work with, as well as professional. I know they were all ready to go being that it was end of day, but I did not feel rushed at all. They were also able to get me an appointment pretty quickly, which I appreciated. They promptly called me to set it up and were hospitable over the phone. Not always the case when making appointments... Note: if you go for an eye exam and opt in for all the tests available, make sure to plan enough time in your day - because they are so thorough, my total time there was about 1.5 hours. If you work 9-5 hours, I'd recommend a later afternoon time, if possible. I did have to wait about 15-20 minutes before being seen, but one of the team members stopped by to apologize for the wait. Sadly my previous eye doctor passed away, so I had to locate a new eye doctor. I had been seeing my previous one since I was a kid. I had low level eye disease so I had to find a real strong eye doctor. I am so glad Dr Macali opened up right near my house. The staff is top notch. I have problems with people touching my eye and get very nervous while at the eye doctor. They do increased testing which gives a better look into the health of my eye. It becomes a little costly, but well worth it. Once I saw Dr Macali he told me he knew my previous eye doctor and learned from him so I felt much better. After the appointment the eye glass consultant found a few pairs that would go perfectly on my face. Not being a fashionable person I loved that they did this. They had me try on a number of pairs to find just the right one. I can't say enough wonderful things about Macali Eye Clinic. read more

I have been coming here for about two years now and couldn't be happier. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and takes the time to thoroughly explain each of the tests and procedures and why they are important. Much better than the "sit here and stare into the machine that will puff air into your eyes when you least expect it" which I had become accustomed to at my previous eye doctor. This time around I decided to get frames instead of lenses, the woman who assisted me walked me through what my insurance would cover and additional discounts that they provided based on what I purchased. When it comes to making an appointment, it can all be done online, which I find incredible. I get a phone confirmation the next day and another the day before. That and I can put in all my insurance information ahead of time which means less paperwork when I get there. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! read more

I moved down from ATL and needed a new local doc for my glasses. The office in GA is still calling me to reorder a new prescription costa frame. I decided I wanted Oakley this year for sunglasses and just replace the lenses on my carbon fiber Ray-Ban. What an excellent staff and doctors. Everyone was so nice and friendly. The have other brands and a pretty good selection of standard eyewear. Dr. Macali has put together a great team and it shows. I truly never knew any of them before my visit earlier this week. I think you will be happy with what you get. I dealt with Anna and Dr. Huyhn and they were better than I could hope for. I don't think you will be disappointed either. read more

Update- their team worked hard to correct the issue. really wish I could give this place a better review. My first two experiences here were amazing. But the third has left me in tears. I made an appointment to see the eye doctor on March 24 to obtain new glasses. I had to order both eyeglasses for reading and sunglasses for driving. Before my new lenses came in I got a call from the office asking about my prescription. I was in the middle of a project didn't quite understand what the office manager said and told him no I didn't want progressive lenses for my sunglasses but to do what was needed for my reading glasses. It took over 10 days for them to come in. Finally got my new lenses and noticed I was having trouble reading the computer screens and seeing while driving. Set appt on 5/9Well come to find out I have the wrong prescription. Went in to get it changed and found out because of the earlier conversation I would have to eat the total cost. Office manager contacted insurance and they were willing to allow me to pay a co-pay again. Order was placed. I called last week to find out they weren't in yet OK. Called on 28 May to find out the order was canceled with the lab and I was not given any notice or anything. Now I have to wait another seven days for lens.. If you have all the time in the world the wait, go here. Some of the office staff is amazing. But the overall experience I've had it's pretty sad read more
