This is a wonderful addition to Dover & Absolutely my favorite hang out in Dover!!!! Most places…read morein Do we are not new and upscale looking. Well, this place is everything that we have been missing in this type of atmosphere! I am so proud of the owner in taking the wonderful leap in renovating the actual restaurant and adding this new lounge. I get to have the best of both worlds of having the wonderful food from the restaurant and having a great lounge area to hang out on a Friday night. There are times that I come here two times a week as I absolutely love the food and the friendly service. The main bartender Jules is fantastic and takes such pride in creating and making drinks. They have many, many different types of specialty drinks. The appetizers are very reasonably priced and are simply delicious. Wish I could give more than 5 stars!

Great spot for a group lunch or dinner; we had a crowd in the event room. The only problem is that…read morethe ceiling is not constructed to dampen a lot of folks chatting all at once and it was noisy and very hard to hear conversation. But the food was really good. I arrived a bit late so missed the bruschetta appetizer (looked good) and had the salad, lasagna and a sample of the chicken marsala. The salad was the usual bagged leaves (I don't like them, no flavor) but that's what is standard in the US, so no fighting that. The chicken was also rather bland but the LASAGNA was fantastic. I'm quite critical of lasagna, even though I feel about lasagna the way Garfield the Cat feels about lasagna. Sometimes it's only a mess of ricotta and tomato sauce and not much flavor, but this lasagna had small meatballs of sausage and a good tomato sauce and not too much cheese, as in not overly capped by a layer of hard-to-digest mozzarella. The desserts looked as if they're brought in, but they were very good, standard stuff, cheesecake, carrot cake, and a chocolate cake that disappeared like mist on a summer meadow. But I only wish I had skipped dessert and loaded up on more lasagna, it was really delicious. If I eat there with friends instead of a party time, I'm pretty sure I'd be ordering that lasagna.

As we walked through the restaurant to our table, I couldn't keep my eyes off the artwork displayed (they have an affection for peacocks). Our server Tiarra had the brightest smile and warmest spirit all evening. Our bread and drinks didn't take long to come out, and our entrees came not too long afterward. The Pinot Noir was smooth. My ribeye was juicy, jam-packed with flavor, and cutting it was like cutting butter. The fried green tomatoes were a great choice as well. My mom truly enjoyed her evening, and we'll certainly be making our way back.

Food was hit or miss. A medium-rare steak came tepid and was redone (after some odd discussion…read moreabout how to do it) and arrived rare..really rare. My mistake; expecting hot food these days is a distant memory. I mean they tried but had no idea, I guess. Plates were not warmed; an order of bbq ribs was also barely warm. I know steak is supposed to be served hot on hot plates but whatever. The sides were delicious; mashed potato, grilled asparagus, mac n cheese. The oysters in the app mix plate were average at best, but overall it was an exciting appetizer for a party we were having. The mashed potatoes were more exciting in appearance than the decor, which was bland as vanilla pudding. If this is vying to be a premier steak house like Del Frisco or Ruth's Chris, a long way to go. Didn 't feel very posh except for the bill at the end.

But you knew that when you drove up to this unprepossessing cafe-bar that looks like a former 50's frozen custard stand turned into biker bar. Which, it probably is. The gals under Valerie's management fly at light speed out of the kitchen, serving Yuengling lager on tap (yeah!) and the usual Bud offering as well as hot and cold sandwiches, Boardwalk fries, nachos and all the things that your doctor and dietician say "not to." There is a pinball machine (featuring Harley Davidson backbox), several other electronic games, one of which has a customized "joke" seat (toilet seat nailed to a wooden captains chair, along with a handy roll and dispenser on the back. Quaint! But don't get any dumb ideas!) Tables are comfy or you can sit at the bar. No booths. The steak sandwiches are well-known in these part and taste good; too good. There is one that is about as long as Jeremy Lin's arm. Seriously. It's huge. In case you can't imagine that, lacquered (I hope) rolls are hanging near the cash register so you can estimate roll length versus appetite strength. The bun has recently exceeded the meat content but their prices have stayed steady so you know what's happening. We all have to manage somehow. I'm not sorry as the flavor is good and I don't need so much saturated fat in any case. I do not fault them. The crowd is what you'd call "eclectic" or "local" and this is not a dainty boite to take a first date unless you already know he or she is a fan of local, very local bars. For local this is. Personally, I always love such places and our state has some of the better locals-only spots that are entirely enjoyable and beat a chain restaurant any day of the week. Valerie's is clean. It smells ONLY of beer, which I can't say about some other places I've visited. No cigarette smoke as our state has gone no-indoor-plumbing, I mean, indoor smoking.

I will say the bartender was very nice and the drinks were solid. The cheesesteak unfortunately was not. Perhaps it was good for this area, but for someone who has tried 20+ from spots in Philly and surrounding areas, it was nowhere near the conversation. Meat was a bit dry, not enough cheese, and the bread was too soft so if there was more cheese, it would have ripped right through the bread. Loved the place, would like to go back and try other foods and hang out for karaoke again, but i'd pass on the cheesesteak next time around.
