My dog (6 y.o. rescue…read moremix - very healthy, luckily!) had a non-complicated ear laceration surgery at Tolland location, having come out of it with 2(!!) superbly antibiotics resistant nasty bacterias in her - Pseudomonas Aeruginosa and Staphylococcus Epidirmidis. Both are common hospital infections, and the former can live on surfaces (even dry!) for 4 years - so, be cautious! My dog had not been exposed to any other unusual environment or change in routine, except this surgery. I have two other dogs, who are constantly together and have no signs of these infections. The only uncommon thing that happened was - this surgery. If this bacteria is bread in un-/under-sanitary surgical room or hospital (with all facts present - this is the only highly likely source of infection), it's extremely difficult for them to eradicate. ...so, here we are $2k+ and counting! Here is the rest of facts: They took a week (!) to run lab/test results for Pseudomonas A., which is susceptible (conveniently) to only 1 recommended antibiotic that get administered every 4hrs. via IV, requiring hospitalization. When they realized I'm not willing to hospitalize my dog, they prescribed an antibiotic that's only intermittently effective against this bacteria, that's got an explicit warning to NOT use in dogs, as it's causing bone marrow suppression. If the above is not preposterous enough, they had just notified me, 2 WEEKS after surgery, that there was another bacteria discovered in that same sample - a staph! My dog contracted 2 nasty and extremely hard to kill bacterias as a result of the surgery. I am attaching a copy of the lab testing result here and happy to share the remainder of documented information with anyone who's still on the fence to keep, take their pet to or start brining them to Fenton River practice. I personally strongly advise against it. The risk to your pet's health IS NOT WORTH IT. My experience with them speaks to incompetence, pet ailment she didn't have before and wouldn't have otherwise that I need to continue caring for weeks, and if I had to apply simple terminology - medical negligence.

They are coming from a previous veterinarian and are requiring a new physical when they just had one two months ago. I asked if I can send over documentation from their previous veterinarian showing that they are healthy cats and they told me that they do not accept the documentation and this is their "policy ". No explanations when I questioned it and said I did not agree with their policy they claimed that they could cancel the appointment I went and canceled it since that is what they suggested. I then had to look up on my own the requirements for physicals, and Google told me more than the receptionist did As far as medical necessity. Which is a shameful on their part since they're supposed to be the "professionals". When a customer is asking why a physical is required, there should be medical necessity attached to the rationale. Not just their policy. I then looked it up and after finding the medical necessity from Google, then tried to rebook the appointment, within 20 minutes of me, trying to rebook that appointment that they said they were two weeks out and this is a small facility. When I questioned it and called Them out that they are now two weeks out within 20 minutes and for being a small facility it's a little hard to believe, The previous vet veterinarian we are coming from is triple the size of them, there is no way they would book up within minutes. The Receptionist then talked junk to the other receptionist sitting next to them while I can hear them on the phone. I then called that behavior out then they hung up on me and said I was the rude one. i called them out on that behavior again by calling back and they hung up on me again. Absolutely TERRIBLE customer service. And this is what we get from "professional professionals ". The receptionists names were Theresa and Melissa. Yes: I was upset because I was not given proper information for which I was asking for. And highly doubt that they would full up two weeks within 20 minutes. Maybe I am wrong but this is how we treat our customers and clients??? By hanging up on them??? I have been in the customer service field for over 30 years and in the medical field for over 15. This is NOT how we treat patients and clients, no matter how upset they are. Instead of blaming client and hanging up them, why don't you try to provide appropriate customer and patient service and figure out what the problem is to provide the best care to your clients or potential clients. DO NOT BRING YOUR ANIMALS HERE!!!

They were able to do the routine stuff however their ability for anything beyond yearly check up is severely lacking. We had 2 pets there, first a chocolate lab that was a senior, over 10 years old. They were alright, however Dr Dan saw him once and scared us so bad said he had some kind of heart issue and we may need to get him to an emergency vet ASAP, then came back and said he was fine. We did have him looked at an emergency vet and they could find nothing wrong with him. We let that slide, unprofessional and poor bedside manors but whatever. Then about a year later, just this past February, he was very lethargic and having issues, we called and they said it didn't seem like an emergency and they can get him in about 3 weeks. We decided to go to the emergency vet and in a matter of hours he was gone, I understand how busy it can get but the amount they just shrugged us off was disappointing for being with them for so long. Also he was on prescription food, they refused to give the prescription to Chewy and required we go through their own online store. We did, after he passed we got another delivery of his food, a few weeks later we called and asked about a refund in which they said they do not have a process to refund orders for pets who have passed. I explained to them how Chewy handles that situation, I spoke with Devon, he seemed nice however never actually called me back and gave me an answer one way or the other. I called him back again, he said he was "still working on it" and would get back to me by the end of the day. That was 3 days ago and no word at all. Mind you I was asking for a $130 refund after spending $3160 with them in a matter of 4 weeks. Not long after this our other dog, an 8 year old boxer mix needed a mole removed. They performed the operation and from there it went down hill quick. He developed a severe infection close to where the operation was, we brought him back, they did a quick test and gave us an antibiotic. He did not get better at all and kept getting worse, we went back there paid over $600 for additional tests were given a different antibiotic but still having issues. We called this morning to ask about a different form of medicine, maybe a compounded liquid. You would have thought I asked them to launch a space shuttle, nobody had any idea and "needed to consult the vet and get back to us". It took 3 hours to get a call back and they said try hiding the pill in a marshmallow, that was literally their only response. I expressed kindly that I feel my pet is not getting the care he needs and expressed my dissatisfaction that they seem to just just guessing at things and effectively throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks. After I expressed that they then said they can send over a prescription to a pharmacy in southington but I was not able to get the prescription myself. They then followed up with an email giving me the pharmacy info and the info of other emergency vet offices and said we should consider a different vet. This was not an issue because I was already looking for a different one. Overall they seem like at best the practice is poorly managed, the doctors and also front desk associates seem to never actually know what's going on or provide any kind of useful information. Honestly the techs that work there are the only bright spot and must be what is keeping them in business. If you need just a basic checkup and "tech" appointment they are alright, if you need an actual vet / doctor appointment unfortunately they seem to not have the skill and ability to properly care for pets beyond the very basics. Overall a very expensive and disappointing experience and worst of all I believe both of my pets received poor care which created more issues and suffering for them.
