have to voice my total disgusting and horrible experience at Beaver Brook animal hospital, Dr. Monica Dijanic is a co-owner and a practicing Vet there, she gave me and my elderly dog the most HORRIBLE bed side uncaring manner I have ever experienced, all she wanted was my $85 office visit money and didn't even exam my dog when I brought him in for being unwell! I had to ask her to exam my dog, she huffed and puffed and very reluctantly looked him over for a whole 30 seconds! I advise anyone and everyone to stay clear of this Vet and the horrible experience I encountered! This vet is negligent at best. Is out of medication that they dont send me home with so my dog isn't getting the correct daily amount to recover. Never tells me in the primary visit that for an eye ulcer that a dog should ALWAYS go home with an e-collar. So in the first week of treatment, we had not cone. Was not asked or offered or mentioned at all, I have the records to prove it. I come for a week follow up, they diagnose my dog with entropian (when the lower lid folds in) and recommends me to an ophthalmologist to correct the issue. Sends me home with no other medication and does not apply the in office atropin even though we discussed 1 more week of treatment since the ulcer only reduced by 25% in the first week. I had to come back in after realizing that I was out of pain meds which the doctor knew since it was a 5 day subscription and the follow up was 7 days later. 1 day after the follow up, I end up at New England ER in the night since her eye swelled up the size of a golf ball. I was told I was not receiving the right medication and that the dog does NOT have ANY underlying issues with her eye/s as described including entropian. Our ophthalmologist appointment was 2 days later where again I was explained that we were originally misdiagnosed and that it was totally negligent for this vet to not send me home with the correct diagnosis, medicine or e-collar for treatment. Needless to say $3500 in the hole for a $2000 issue. I have ALL of the medical records to prove this claim and have filed a complaint with the better business bureau. I had friends warn me about their previous experiences but I was interested in giving them the benefit of the doubt since they were a vet that "specialized" in helping animals who experience anxiety during their visit. They are ok when it comes to normal shots etc but when your animal has a real issue, run. I was also told during the following up appointment from the nurses that I could leave and seek treatment else where because they were "uncomfortable" with me addressing them about the non transparency of costs and treatment. But when a veterinarian yells at you if you don't agree with their suggestion for care (even though I have total knowledge of the condition and understand it since I have the same condition), it's time to say goodbye. I moved to CT a week ago. I called Beaver Brook today (5/20/2022) to have my 10 week old puppy registered/seen as a new patient. The person who answered the phone seemed ok at first asking questions about the puppy - but as soon as I asked if I can tour the facility everything went south. She said that they cannot allow me to see their set-up in the back. Hmmm.... Okay...... why not (I did not ask that question), but I politely said that I would like to make sure this is a good fit for my pet. She again (not so politely) refused my request, and said - "it looks like we are not a good fit". It seemed like before I can even say anything more - she hung up. NOTE: My new puppy is my 4th pet - and I've always been able to tour the facilities and the Vet's set-up everywhere I've been/moved with my pets. This vet's (assistant) response and abrupt disconnect was absolutely unprofessional. Came for my routine appointment. I did not receive a call stating that I needed a mask (this is 03/2022, mask mandates lifted, she admitted they did not tell me since they didn't confirm verbally and it was via text) ... they stated they are rescheduling me. I stated I was willing to wear a mask if they had one-they stated no masks available. I had taken work of for this... amber stated I needed to leave. I asked to speak with the doctor- she said she was not available even though it was my appointment time. I asked for my records and stated that this is how you treat patients/customers even if they are willing to comply with a mask? She confirmed/verbally stated this is how they treat patients. Wanted to find a vet to start bringing my cat to for annual physicals and am so happy I found Beaver Brook. My cat was, of course, a little nervous of the visit but the vets quickly made her feel comfortable. The vet tech put on a smell that helped my cat relax and the vet was a champ when holding my squirming cat! I'm extremely impressed with this Animal Clinic. Dr. Howard Asher has a calling for being a Veterinarian. He is very patient and compassionate. I brought my little "Dorky" aka Yorkie/Dutchtown mix in for electro acupuncture for her severe back injury. Almost ready to put her down at 2 years old because she was suffering. I got a quote from Piper Vet hospital for $7,000 for a back surgery that can't guarantee her quality of life after the fact. Not a option for me. So I searched and found electro acupuncture therapy as a option to try and fix her severe back injury. It was a last ditch effort. I'm astounded at the results of electro acupuncture! It was literally life changing. We did a package of sessions of E-acupuncture over the last 3 years. She is a normal dog that lives a very happy life to this day. I'm so glad that I gave Dr. Asher a chance with this unique therapy. And it's very reasonably price. I'm very grateful and I now trust Dr. Asher's judgment on all things animals. On another note. I've noticed that this clinic isn't all about the money like other clinics are. When I've gone to other vet clinics and hospitals, and it was time to check out and pay the bill. My experience was that the receptionist lady's push unnecessary services to run the bill up. They will even put effort into making you feel like a terrible pet owner if you say no to them as they try to upsell everything. I had the best experience with Dr. Asher! Very compassionate. Very understanding. My Sphynx was in active heart failure & the emergency vet had put him on medication that required follow up blood work. They got me right in & recommended we not continue with the blood draw due to how stressful it was for my boy - he was not doing well & Dr. Asher felt given his heart rate & accelerated breathing, it was just better for my baby to not do it. He cared first & foremost about the well-being of my best friend over money & I highly recommend them! read more

I am appalled! I was already considering switching vets because these people will milk you for every extra penny you have, but the treatment I received today was the straw that broke the camel's back. My dog was perfectly calm, yet I was told I HAD to put my dog on anti anxiety meds for her to be seen. There was absolutely no need and I don't feel comfortable giving her unnecessary meds at an unnecessary added cost. The doctor was extremely rude about it. She was actually cold with me from the moment she walked in the room. She was very dismissive of my feelings and acted like I absolutely HAD to do what she said. It is my dog...not hers. If I don't want my dog taking a medication that isn't needed then she will not be taking it. I walked right out and will NEVER go back. I'm surprised they have any clients left. I'm just speechless. I am appalled by the unprofessionalism and how incredibly cold Dr. Monica was today at my pups annual check up. I am a new dog owner and I'm trying to learn as much as I can. Today at my visit I felt dismissed, like I was bothering Dr.Monica with every question I asked, and she blatantly ignored me more than twice with me asking questions and her assistant tried answering and didn't even know the correct answers. I appreciated the assistant trying her best, but I've never been treated like that from a doctor and I can't believe how rude she was and walked out during my appointment. She never explained to me what shots she was administering to my dog and why, and she scoffed and ignored me when I asked her questions. Dr. Monica's hospitality as doctor was disgusting and if she doesn't know what's she's doing or doesn't know how to use her words... speak up! A low- grade establishment with mediocre doctors. I pulled in for my appointment. They charged me money for the parking space. I walked in. They charged me to open the door. Then they charged me and my dog to breathe. Then they charged us to sit and wait. Then they charged us to go into the patient room. Then they charged us to breathe the air in there. Then a really emotionless woman charged us for every single service and medicine and breath and pet and step the dog took for the next 30 minutes. We had to put a second mortgage on the house. Our dog had issues after several visits; he had an aversion to having blood drawn because we lapsed on the heart worm medication. So after several attempts and being asked to muzzle the dog, we were told we needed to have him sedated. We were told by a tech there could be one more thing to try. We called and were told sedation is the only option. When we asked to speak to the vet to discuss further, we were told he would speak to us but would have to charge us an exam fee for 15 minutes of his time. Bottom line, this vet only cares about profits - as it shows from other reviews on Facebook and in community groups. We have never had such a horrible experience at a vet. For all the caring posters and lingo on stress-free visits you would think they would have better customer service. Would give 1 star but some of the staff were decent and cared for our dog. read more

Incredibly disappointed. Called Friday morning at 9 am to request an appointment for my dog who is a tripawd and hurt his one good front leg. The girl at the front desk was kind. She said she would check with the doctor and call me back. She called me back and told me the doctor could not see our dog and they didn't do X-rays on Friday!! Ummm what?? They referred me to VCA in West Hartford. I contacted them immediately and was told by the not so pleasant person answering the phone that there was a six hour wait to be seen and we would have to wait in our car. I understand the Emergency vet has a wait and I would hate for a pet to die while waiting. Mind you my dog had no use of his one front leg and is shaking and crying in pain! Thanks for nothing. I should have listened to the negative reviews Not that you care but he was seen by a vet who actually does X-rays on a Friday and will be having surgery next week! Ps. If you cannot effectively meet the needs of your current patients then maybe you should stop accepting new ones. Maybe try to keep current clients satisfied. Most animals owners will see their general doctor and get referred out to an ortho. They do an X-ray, provide pain and anti inflammatory meds to at least keep the animal comfortable until results are available. They don't tell clients with a dog in pain to go to an emergency vet and sit in the car for six hours. You can make every excuse under the sun with your condescending tone but when it comes down to it you failed and need to do better. read more

Everyone we have spoken with has been so friendly and accommodating. We happened to rescue a kitten with no prior plans to do so and we were greeted with open arms and our kitten was seen SO quickly after being adopted. Every time we have come, all during COVID, the staff has been so patient and helpful with our questions as we have never had a cat before. With our prior dog we went to another vet and the experience was never the same. Can't say enough about Dr Asher and the staff! To begin with David helped me get our elderly 75 pound dog safely out of the truck and safely back in when we left. That is a BIG deal and not so easy to do. Not only but he went a step further and helped me walk him in to the clinic as I have a leg injury myself and was having difficulty handling him. Once in there Jackie took over to get all of the information needed with the new staff member, whose name I cannot remember but he was great as well. read more

I went to this local vet because my dog was having teeth issues. The staff at the desk was really friendly, however, the vet was horrible. She looked at my Yorkie for 30 seconds and said all of his baby teeth needed to be pulled. It would cost between $900-1500. The vet completely missed that my dog had something lodged in his back teeth that was causing the problem. The vet was rude acting as if I should have already had all his baby teeth removed. She barely touched my dog and had a terrible bedside manner. I found another vet shortly after. I do not recommend this place for any animal. The commenter is right, we were there for 45 minutes and saw the vet for appx 10 minutes. Buster did get an antibiotic shot but I found it hard to believe a vet would look in his mouth and see the baby teeth and not the foreign body. I had all of Busters records forwarded to his new vet and they removed all his baby teeth for 1/2 the cost. read more

We got a free checkup since we were new there and was able to get an appointment within the hour...Other service fees were what i expected them to be, but not outrageous... The practice, in general, is clean and welcoming...The staff is friendly and smiles with you... plus it doesn't smell like blah like other vets... They actually try to make it smell better... I was actually happy Dr Monica was there. My last clinic went out of business and after reading so many crappy reviews of other places, including having a bad experience with some jackass vet, its nice to know this practice exists and doesn't treat your pet like a dollar sign... I had no plans on leaving a review but after my patronizing conversation with Dr. Asher, I felt inclined to. I've been going to beaver brook animal hospital for maybe two years now with my two rescue pitbulls. My smaller rescue Maverick age 4 who's roughly 36lbs began limping. After bringing him in they put him on antibiotics because it was discovered he has lymes and maybe that was the cause of the lameness. Time passes and his limp is getting worse, they recommend X-rays. There protocol for X-rays is to drop them off first thing and pick them up by the end of the day, which I was uncomfortable with and expressed to two separate people. My rescue has severe anxiety and does not do well at the vet, they went on about how the clinic is "fear free" and I would be able to pick him up in the afternoon, he wouldn't need to stay all day. I reluctantly agreed and asked if there was a medication I could give him before drop off to help his anxiety. He was given 300mg of gabapentin the night before his apt and the following morning before bringing him in. My husband dropped him off at 9am, I haven't heard and 130 rolled around. I decided to give them a call since I was told I would be able to pick him up in the afternoon, when I called I was told he was still not seen. At this point I'm obviously upset, they assure me he was "resting comfortably" in his crate. I told the receptionist I needed to pick him up ASAP, over two hours later and no word from them I call back to be asked what time should we schedule pick up? I don't understand why I wouldn't have received a phone call after I expressed my concern the first phone call and told them I needed to get him asap. I left my house right away to pick him up, when I was led into the room I could hear him crying. The man who brought maverick into the waiting room told me it's normal for him to be shaking and crying due to the anesthesia, sure. They did not have the results after I was told one of the reason he had to stay most of the day was to be able to receive the results of the $800 X-rays. I couldn't get out of there fast enough and funny enough as soon as we left the horrible shaking and crying stopped, but I'm sure that was just the anesthesia. That night maverick was off and urinated all over himself, this dog has never even had an accident in the house; still unsure if it was the high amount of mediation he was given or the trauma. I was told that Dr. Asher would call the following day or two to give me the results; the following day someone else called me to tell me the X-rays were "unclear" and it looks like there could maybe be some hip dysphasia and maybe some trauma to the ligament or acl and to get further evaluated in north haven at Central. The fact I was told it was "unclear" after spending $800 added salt to the wound. I didn't follow his referral and contacted VCA in west hartford who took him in the next day. After one thorough exam I was told it was obvious he has a tear in his CCL and needed surgery. That same night I received a survey in my email which asked me about my experience, to which I did very honestly. My dog was over medicated and traumatized with "unclear" results. I received a very patronizing phone call from Dr. Asher today who clearly wanted to hear himself talk. Telling me I don't understand that dogs and humans metabolize the same medication differently and he clearly gave me usefully information seeing as how I brought my dog to the vet specialist he recommended (which I did not) and he was being taken care of. If you didn't want honest feed back I recommend not sending surveys out, I also think it's funny how I don't hear one peep from Dr.Asher until he didn't like my survey response but clearly he's a very busy man. After I told him he was being patronizing he laughed and said well ya, I told him to have a lovely day and hung up. I'm sure after this review I'll receive another wonderful phone-call, I look forward to it. read more

We have owned several dogs over the years and, by necessity, have used a variety of kennels with mixed results. A year ago the kennel we were using experienced an outbreak of canine influenza and was temporarily closed. In our search for a new facility we learned that Beaver Brook already had in place a policy requiring influenza shots for all boarded animals so we visited and were impressed with its cleanliness and the size of the individual kennels. Each dog has a large space, rather than cage, outfitted with a raised Kuranda bed. Three walks a day are included at no extra charge. We were happy to learn we are allowed to bring his regular treats, food, toys, blankets and even a used t-shirt of mine thereby minimizing the stress associated with us being away. It is also a relief to know that should our dog experience a medical problem while we are away, the veterinary staff is on site. Boarding rates are competitive and we found the current front desk staff, particularly Cece, to be friendly. read more

A wonderful experience. I brought my Labrador retriever to this Vet because my last Vet "Banfield" traumatized both of my dogs. Everyone at this location was absolutely wonderful. They are a fear free clinic and it really does work. I put the complementary scarf on my dog in the waiting room that contains relaxing pheromones and within 5-10 minutes I dog was calm as could be. The patient rooms are very clean and customized for you prior to your arrival. They are scented with relaxing pheromones that put both myself and my dog in a very relaxed mood. They have fresh clean mats and beds for you to sit on the floor with your dog if you want to and all of the veterinarian procedures are done in that same comfortable exam room with the owner present. I am taking all of my dogs away from Banfield and bring them here.! read more
