100% scam and ruder than hell to boot. I discovered on my own after leaving that the cable to plug into the machine needed replacement -- a fix for less than $10. But MacEdge said I needed a $300+ repair because connectors to the machine were "corroded." Two different guys actually put on a jeweler's loupe to look at connector and tell me this bogus diagnosis! Not for nothing do these guys have so many 1-star reviews. Wish I'd read them in advance. Stay away. read more

I won't go back to MacEdge. They're a retail space that you can only visit by appointment. I made an appointment to have them look at my old iPad. I didn't know if I should replace the battery or should get a new one. The greeting when I walked in the door was, "Do you have an appointment?" No, hello. No, how can we help you? The service person I dealt with had zero people skills. After I explain my situation, she said "You should have used the iPad portal to book the appointment, but I guess I could look at it." And the visit went downhill from there. I was ready to by a new iPad because it wasn't worth doing the battery and that seemed to be a problem, too. Finally, I just left. read more

Until I met the people at MacEdge, I lost all kinds of time with laptop issues. I have to say this is one of my favorite places on the planet because of the incredible service, starting with Anthony, who is just an incredibly cool guy, with a great skill set and a wonderful ability to connect with customers. My 5 year old MacBook Pro started having major issues basically rendering it unusable. After opening the 3rd or 4th Safari tab it would hang requiring a reboot and at times a Force Quit. I've been in software for 24 years and feel I'm qualified to express an opinion for technical support. At first, I thought it was my WiFi internet speed. I upgraded to Xfinity X1 Triple Play. After the upgrade, I constantly get 600 to 700 Mbps download. Yet, the MacBook still hung. Off to MacEdge in Portsmouth I went where I had the good fortune to meet Joel! I described the symptoms and he was able in short order to replicate the problem. We both agreed it was either hardware or software. On the spot, I purchased a new 15" MacBook 2.3 GHz Intel Core i9 the fastest he had. I left it overnight for Joel to port the settings and data. The next day I brought it home and much to my dismay, it did the same thing. I brought it back to Joel. We agreed the issue was software or a configuration setting. He informed me Mac's create two separate pools for configurations. One for documents and one for OS/User settings. He backed up the new MacBook, wiped it clean and the reinstalled Mojave. Then he created a test running streaming media from 7 Safari tabs that never blinked for hours. He then copied back down my documents and ran the test again which was successful. That told him there was a bad user setting. Therefore, he manually configured the basic user settings I needed by hand. Again, the streaming test was a success. I couldn't be happier with Joel's troubleshooting skills and persistence to get to the root cause of the problem. I absolutely love my new MacBook Pro. The Retina display is stunning and the device screams performance wise. If you have a Mac problem, you'd be a fool to take it anywhere else other than MacEdge in Portsmouth. We stopped by without an appointment and were immediately greeted by an associate offering to help. Our son's iPhone had been apparently hacked, it took them a few minutes to resolve the issue and show him how to fix it, should it happen again in the future. They didn't even charge us! I would come back again and again, they were knowledgeable, patient and provided great customer service to an "anxious" teenager who thought had lost his phone to the cyber ghosts for the rest of the summer! When I couldn't figure out the software update, I called up the store and he remembered me. Servic is hit or miss, depnding on who you gt at the counter. I was just ther to ask to gt a sticky key cleaned (guss which on) and their solution was "rplace th keyboard." Thy hardly botherd to look up from what they were doing. But, rewind to a coupl months ago. I had another sticky ky. I popped it off, swabbed it with som rubbing alcohol, and had trouble gtting the key back on. I brought it over to thm, and thy were very helpful to get it back on and working again. Worked like a charm, without having to rplace the whol bloody keyboard. I guess that's going to be th plan. But I suppos thr are plenty of othr shops that wouldn't mind popping a key back in plac. read more

I took my laptop here to trouble shoot and fix a problem after Apple referred me in their direction, since they are the only store close by. They charged me $209 for pushing a button on my screen and charging me to replace the ram. All something i could have done if instructed. Not only that but when i picked up my laptop there was a giant circular scratch on my laptop cover that i had just bought and placed on my laptop. When i asked about it the man helping me asked if it was there before. When i told him no he just bluntly said "Well thats what those are there for..." I have had Apple products since 2006 and lived in 5 different city's in 5 different states and this store is by far the worst representation of Apple or customer care i have every seen in my life. read more

Joel helped me out of a "black screen of death" issue with my MacBook Pro and an iPhone lock-out that happened on the same day, and he gave me instructions on how to get back in action. He allowed me to work on it there at the store so I could ask him a question if I got stuck. The store was crowded and it was just before Christmas, so I had to wait a while for my turn. Still, it was much easier than driving to the nearest Apple store and waiting there. The MacEdge guys stayed calm, friendly, and helpful despite the line and the pressure of everyone else's stress. Most importantly, they solved the Mac problems I was having and gave me excellent advice on protecting my data and settings while my MacBook is near the end of it's expected life. Save your money. This place is awful. Took my MacBook Pro in for repair- slow starting up and a weak battery. They handed me back my laptop having cleared the contents and put all data on an external drive. Since my bill was already almost $250 I asked "how much to fix the thing so I can actually use it." Their response "$99." I now have to take my laptop to Salem NH, a real Apple Store and ask them to start all over. Save your money and avoid MacEdge. read more

I came in with a MacBook Pro that had a cursor moving on its own. They diagnosed it right in front of me and pointed out a few things wrong with the computer but let me choose which ones to fix. They explained everything in detail such as possible reasons why the cursor moved on its own and checked for each one while I was watching them do the tests. They then quoted me 3-5 business days (fair enough, they need to get the parts from Apple), so I was pleasantly surprised when the very next day it was ready. I'm now typing this review on said computer with a working trackpad. They charged a $139 flat fee for labor plus whatever for parts, and even removed adware they found for free! I will be coming back if my Apple products stop working properly again. read more

Do not bring your business to this place! Although recommended on the Apple website, this place tried to scam me and make me pay $409 dollars for a new top case for my MacBook pro. I also had to pay an absurd service fee of $140. After being told that I had to pay $409 I took my computer back and went to the Apple store in Salem where they fixed my computer in 20 minutes for free. The wire that connected the keyboard to the rest of the computer just needed to be reset. The top case was fine. MacEdge lied to me and tried to get a poor, unsuspecting customer to pay for an unnecessary replacement. read more

The mac store in Portsmouth on lafayette road charged 400.00 to fix my hard drive. They are SO overpriced , and when went to pick up my computer i waited for 25 minutes or more, finally i tried to pay with my step dad's credit card, the store clerk refused payment and kept my coputer for 2.5 more weeksuntil my step dad got bak from Cambodia. The store clerk said i could talk to the manager and i said id like to, then he said "He's not here right now". I understand taking pre cautions but ive worked in many stores and have used my judgement as far as accepting payment, and i'm not the "sketchy' type of person who is going to use someones card without being authroized. Terrible experience with computer repair. Took in iMac for a simple hard drive swap on a Wednesday. Told it took 3 days, so I could definitely get it back Monday. Called Monday, was told they'd call me Tuesday when it was ready. Heard nothing Tuesday. Called Wednesday, was told part was on order. Asked when it would be ready, was told "maybe Thursday, maybe Friday, definitely by the following Monday." Asked to speak to manager, who told me he didn't think it was their job to contact customers whether would be delays.
