I brought my iMac in on June 1. There were five employees in the store; four were not wearing masks, and the fifth guy wore one just part of the time. St. Louis has a mandatory regulation that store employees must wear masks. Even if the city did not require masks, the MacHeadQuarters employees should be wearing them anyway to reduce their odds of spreading the coronavirus. I wrote up a three-star Yelp review (which MacHeadQuarters replied to) saying the store was not following government orders. Later I picked up my iMac, and none of the employees were wearing masks. I asked an employee why he wasn't wearing a mask, and he claimed he could not wear one due to a medical condition. If he was the only employee without a mask, I could believe him, but since they are all not wearing masks, I'm about 99.9% sure he is a liar. I am reducing my Yelp rating to two stars due to employee dishonesty. Today I reported MacHeadQuarters to City Hall for COVID-19 Business Operation Violations. I like they got my iMac to start, which fixed my main problem with it. read more

Just got my 2011 iMac back from service. It works great. Service was timely and reasonably priced. The fix was what I suspected, a loose cable. I inquired about my other iMac having a problem. I was told Apple has declared 2011 iMacs obsolete and will no longer supply parts. Parts are readily available online but MacHQ is not allowed by Apple to use parts from any other source. Apple's policy is when they declare a product obsolete they do not want ANYBODY working on them in an attempt to FORCE you to buy new. I refuse to do that. This is not the fault of MacHQ. They must work within the straitjacket that Apple puts on them as Apple Authorized Service. If my Apple equipment requires service in the future that requires parts, I will either go to UNauthorized service, do it myself or I will end my Apple journey. Love the products. Hate the company. I had a great experience at MacHeadQuarters on Manchester. Apple pushed some kind of update that inhibited my hardware's ability to use my cell service through my service provider (couldn't send or receive, couldn't access network internet). They provided me with a rental comparable in model and function, sent the phone to apple for repair and the pick up process was smooth. The guys working the front end are genuinely helpful and have positive attitudes. Thank you all for your help fixing my phone and not leaving me helpless in the process! read more

I've started going here when the Apple store got just too busy especially for repairs. They are an authorized apple repair center so they can do any warranty repair the store in the mall does, only without the wait. they prices are no worse than the Apple store and they often have refurbished computers that are priced right. the staff is really where they shine, they are helpful without any of the attitude. read more

I am fairly tech savvy. During the lockdown I chose to use them for servicing my iPad. My battery life was abysmal. They said battery was fine which I doubted and I needed to restore. Of course that made no difference. As soon as I could, I made an appointment at the Apple store. They couldn't understand how the battery didn't register as failed. Anyway, they took care of it. Trip to MacHeadQuarters was a waste of time. Don't k ow why there was such a discrepancy in the diagnostic testing between the Apple store and them. I just had the one of the most devastating horrible computer experiences with the Mac headQuarters staff. I wanted to have my iPad evaluated just to see what it was worth. Had they told me they were going to wipe off the data to do that, I would not have left it with them. They should have just told me to make sure it was backed up, or that they were going to do that. I will never do business with them again. They are staffed with inadequate personnel who also gave me incredibly poor service when replacing the hard drive on my desktop. It took calling up there multiple times to finally reach 1 of the supervisors, Joe, who took care of that issue. But this loss of data of my iPad, I'm at such a loss as to why they deleted all of my data and didn't warn me they were doing that. Utterly disappointed and heartbroken to lose videos I can never replicate. read more

I love going into Mac HQ because they are super customer oriented. I am not tech savvy, so when I ask what they mean by something, they explain without looking at me like I'm nuts. Which is a big deal...tech can be scary. They are always super helpful and whatever you go in for is sure to be taken care of before you leave there. I took my MacBook Air in for a new touchpad. The counter staff person ran a diagnostic, determined that it did indeed need a new touchpad, price would be around $140. A tech called later, tried to upsell me on a new battery, said the battery had failed diagnostics, and could die at any time. They could replace it for $200. I pushed for specifics about what failing diagnostics meant, could not get anything cogent. I nixed the battery replacement. Final cost for the touchpad was $152, and it works just fine. I have been using this device for the last three hours, and the battery is at 42%. It was a bit of a used car dealership kind of experience for me, I'm afraid. read more

Heard about this place because of their promotion where you can get a new Mac every 2 yrs. I was very eager to try this because I love Mac computers. The sales guys know what they are talking about and they don't seem shady...meaning not sales motivated. The process takes a bit but worth it because who wouldn't want a new Mac every 2 yrs. You do have to put down a hefty deposit which you can apply for credit through a separate company through them and is sorta refundable. Then you have a fairly reasonable monthly fee automatically debited from your account. This entire transaction is all good and normal...tolerable. Here is where the 1 star comes in and why: customer service over the phone and email is horrible and needs much improvement. When you call, an automated system picks up and tells you if you're 1st, 2nd, etc in line for someone to answer your call. You wait on average 5-10 minutes until a live person picks up. Then that live person tells you, "Hold on, let me transfer you up front where they can assist you." When the person picks up, you will be put on hold again! With every call I have made to MacHQ, I have not hung up feeling valued as a customer. So, I tried emailing them instead and you will not get a response back at all. When I finally figured that out, I called to find out they literally check the email right then and there. What is the point of having a business email if you are not going to check it?! When you are told by their staff that something will take a certain period of time, it will actually take twice that time. Overall MacHQ has poor communication and stressful customer service. read more

Don't sign up for their 'new computer for life' program if you ever think you may need to get out of it. My daughter has been on the program for almost 10 years. She picked up her last Macbook during winter 2018. She now lives in Canada, and when the 2 years of that contract were up (early 2020), the border was closed and she could not return to the US. We've been paying the rental fee for a total of 44 months now ($1900). I called to terminate the contract and to terminate without turning in a 4-year old computer (2017 model), we're getting back $120 from a $960 deposit; the monthly fees paid since the end of the 2 years are not refundable since they consider this the cost of not turning in the machine on time. That's a $880 penalty for not turning in the machine during a pandemic. For this machine, we will have paid MacHQ about $2700 for a computer that has a retail value - new - of about $1100. And this offer was made to me as if they were doing me a favor. I'm deeply sorry I didn't use the original deposit to just buy my daughter a computer that she owned. It's hard for me to see the value to the consumer of this program, even if you never leave the program, but it's got to be a real money-maker for this business. read more

The best Mac resource in STL is MacHq. I have purchased 5 computers from this store so far in 2012, and every purchase was easy and a good buy. I didn't opt for the lease program, but instead buying used from those folks turning in items off a lease. All machines have been great to-date and I saved a pretty enormous amount of money compared to most online retailers and certainly the corp mac stores. If you are in a huge hurry or want to see people in buddy holly glasses this is not the place. They are not the guys and gals in blue shirts, these guys are running a small business and have some limitations, like there generally is only two sales associates. If you are interested in getting a good deal, the opportunity to clearly comunicate your needs and have the chance for some flexibility in price, this is your place. You also do not have to deal with mall traffic/parking or annoying teenagers and that is a bonus IMO. read more

Before there was an Apple Store in every major StL mall, there was MacHeadquarters. And while it's not a big shiny brightly lit tech mecha sandwitched between a J Crew and a Bath & Body Works you'll get the attention and quality service at Mac HQ that's typically not available from the Genius Bar. The actual geniuses at Mac HQ are friendly and quick to help without making you squirm and feel as if you're not smart enough to own your computer. They care about fixing the problem and not only fix it but educate you on it. I've had two hard drive crashes and several minor issues over the years that Mac HQ has taken care of for me. The bench fees are reasonable and the turn around is typically never more than a few days. Mac HQ has a great selection of new and refurbished Mac products as well as software and accessories. They even have accessories for older machines so that those of us with a 2-3 year old machine can still find what they need. Plus, I love hearing the Mac startup sound play every time I walk in the door. read more

What a wonderful experience! My mac charger went out 2 weeks ago, so I ran to best buy and bought a new one. Today, my computer starts charging so we go back to Best Buy and they tell me its my battery or my port. I call MacHeadQuarters and they tell me to come on in. Nathan was a big help! He ran a diagnostic on my battery and my computer and was confident it was my new charger that was the problem. He opened the charger he was prepared to sell me, let me charge my near dead computer until it was about 40 percent, to show me that the problem was indeed my charger. For a silly problem with a charger, Nathan spent nearly an hour with me to make sure that I had everything I needed and was prepared for work (I am a teacher doing hybrid learning - so my computer is a must) on Monday. I had been driving past the store for a couple of years (not ever thinking I'd need them for anything). I recently bungled something on my MacBook pro and remembered seeing this place. Thank God they're open on Sunday! The guys there were really knowledgeable and helpful. For a nominal fee my Mac was diagnosed, fixed and returned to me in short order! This place was great until they hired this one employee from a now-defunct Apple reseller with very questionable business ethics (the now defunct reseller store, certainly not the Mac HQ store) to which I had a miserable experience. I saw this individual in the showroom and did a complete 180 and left the store. The current showroom is depressing and not impressed with this store at all. The original location, Jim, was much better. It was brighter and had more open space. I really feel like I'm in someone's basement. On the other side of the coin, I felt the original Apple Stores were too bright and felt like I was in a tanning salon (referring to the Galleria store) before they moved into the current Galleria location. I went for a tax free weekend a couple of times and the service, to be blunt, sucked. The owner, Jim, has been so kind to reply to my original evaluation, to which I say, hire more people if you know it's going to be busy. I went twice a couple of years apart and had similar experiences. But, as you can see Jim the owner has taken taken the time to respond to my original Yelp reviews, and cares about customer satisfaction. If I ever need to do business at your store I will certainly go to you directly. The one upside is the ability to purchase used Mac and software selection is large. You can also purchase other computer related items, too. A bonus if you need something in the moment. The "two star" rating is rated as "MEH. I've experienced better", to which, I have experienced better at the Apple store. Prior to the Apple store, this would have been a three star review. The "Apple Startup Sound" is lame, but certainly does not factor into my star rating. It was really cool 10 years ago, but now I just feel it's "cutesy." On a side note: the Apple store has certainly taken business away from the Apple reseller, but good business is just that: good business regardless if it's local or national. However, if you (the reader) buy and support local than go to the Mac HQ. They have a lot of Mac items here that you can't always find at the Apple Store. They will also work on your Apple items that the Apple Store won't for whatever reason. That being said, they are a bit more expensive than I want to pay for Mac repairs. My husband had brought in his 2007 MacBook and they wanted $343 for the repair. The guys are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. You don't feel like they are hiding something or playing salesman. When we asked further about the price quote, he showed us the cost of the replacement part and explained the hourly labor cost associated. Seemed quite transparent. Apple sent me to MacHQ for a small repair I needed on my IPhone and they didn't know anything about the ICloud and pushed me out as soon as I arrived. They are knowledgeable, patient, and their prices, while not cheap, are fair, especially given the attention you get. The only problem is when they get several "walkins" at once. Tried to get a Genius Bar appt at the Galleria, they were booked for days. Apple said try our authorized repair shop. So we did. Had an appointment for my daughter's IPhone 8. Would not charge. Although our wait was less than 15 minutes, it is clear that the appointments mean nothing. First come first serve. No big deal. (Except no AC and tiny!) The young man who helped us was awesome! Cleaned out her charging portal no charge. It was now working. How sweet! Then he suggested she have the battery replaced for $29.99 because she had only a max of 80% charge capability. Ok. Sounds good, we will pick it up tomorrow. My daughter paid in advance. She went in without me the next day. Picked up her phone and left, no one told her anything. Just handed her the phone and a piece of paper. After reading the paperwork they gave her, it was unclear whether they replaced the battery. Paperwork said that possible water damage and a white substance prevented a repair. Ok. Recommended a new phone at $399. So I made a call. Ashley answered. I explained the situation, asked for clarification as to what had been done to the phone. After 8 min on hold (music was awful) Ashley came back on and said the phone was ready to be picked up. Well, I actually have it in my hand. That was not the question I asked. Was the battery replaced? Yes or no? Put on hold again. 5 min later she came back, she said there was possible water damage so no repair was made. Ok so my daughter paid in advance for a battery, but didn't receive one. Ashley was clearly annoyed and said yes. Well thank you for your help Ashley!!! Look, I don't think $30 is unreasonable for a diagnostic test and cleaning out her charging port, so I let it go. Seriously though? Communication is key. They had none, except the nice young man working his tail off when we walked in. Apple needs to stop referring them until they get it together. read more
