First off I'm giving the ambiance of this place 5 stars The service 5 stars The food 3.8 stars Let me explain So from the outside this place looks decent. But when you walk in, everything opens up with the immediate inside a bit small, but an entire back patio that is gorgeous! As I said, the inside is a bit small but quaint and cozy, and the outside would be perfect for a nice little date night or just a nice time to relax outside. The back is gated in which is good because it's a corner lot that receives a bit of air so it protects against too much air. They have tomato plants growing in the back which adds the authentic vibes of this establishment. All in all - it's a clean, organized and vibey spot. The service was professional and to the point to which I have no complaints. The woman at the counter explained a few menu questions I had at the beginning very well and we were on our way to sit wherever we like. The food was good. I had the shrimp tacos and mom had the flautas. We both felt both plates were safe and lacking flavor. The presentation was perfect on both plates, although the flavors didn't quite compliment the presentation so that was a bummer. But that's a small fix in my opinion. On the other hand, the red and green salsas provided for guacamole and chips and the plates was probably one of the best salsas I've had in a long time. They were very bright, zesty, with a nice tang and bit of heat which was perfect. The salsas actually brought the flautas and the shrimp tacos to life which was the caveat to the whole thing. So if you're looking for a nice, inexpensive vibey little spot with good food - this place is worth a try. They specialize in seafood and I haven't had any (vegetarian). My son has gotten the ceviche. It's a generous portion and ie beautifully plated. He said it was delicious. Tacos de Papa are really good! I like that a lot of their menu lets you choose the dish and then choose your protein or main component. And they have two veggie options! I have only had the mushrooms and they're fabulous! On the torta, the flavor soaks through the bread. So good! They have breakfast that you can get all day! How great is that? First time trying and will definitely be back! The service was great and very fast considering they cook everything made to order in their open kitchen. I got the breakfast molletes plate with chorizo and my husband got the carne asada tacos with beans and rice. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. I was only able to finish half of mine and had enough for a full serving later to enjoy. The breakfast also included delicious robust coffee with a hint of cinnamon. I have only been here a handful of times but let me tell you, I have always left satisfied. The staff here are so sweet and genuine, I believe it's a family owned business and I enjoy every interaction with all of them. The space is small and I've never sat on their patio but it's the shadier side of the building which is nice, I know how hot it can be at the Stell's in the direct sunlight. I love the open kitchen where I can actually see my food being made too. The traditional ceviche is the best I've ever had (and I consider myself a ceviche snob). I drive from Calimesa to get it here because there's nowhere else that does it like Machete. Their burrito de camaron is excellent as well, shrimp is juicy as hell and it's so filling. Their watermelon agua Fresca is so refreshing and they have a happy hour/brunch period where they offer it free as well which is always a plus. I've tried their Al pastor torta and that was the only thing I was not a fan of but it was filling and I finished it nonetheless. Just not for me. Also, as a spicaholic, their super spicy salsa is divine with the perfect spice and flavor. I find it hard to find somewhere that does a good balance of both but machete is top notch. I can't stress enough though, if you are a ceviche fan, this is the place for you! And they season their chips to make it extra tasty. First time here. The place was extremely clean, ambient was very nice and the food was very well made and above average. They had a large selection of food and we decided to pick all different dishes to try them out. My daughter had the tacos de papa, my son had a torta de asada, my wife the huarache and I had the shrimp burrito in addition to that we shared a machete de asada and they were all nicely plated and well made. BTW they all came with a side of our choosing and we had esquite and beans. The service was nice, there was a BD party outside in the garden and they had a DJ and were kind enough to share their Nothing bunt cake with my kids. I'm not sure where the good reviews are coming from. The tacos I got were some of the worst I've ever eaten. Steak was dry, cold, and chewy and the chicken tinga was rubbery. Both tacos were so dry they were hard to swallow. I could not finish them. Tacos gubernador was flavorless and oily. They give you the smallest cup of salsa for the chips. When I asked if I could do hard shell tacos the girl said she didn't know what I meant. The seating outside was nice with a small AC, but other than that the experience was below mid. Not your typical taqueria. I love that they offer some delicious regional flavors. If you are looking for tasty, slightly different options, and/or if you like more seafood taqueria options, this is the place. I wasn't expecting the empanadas to be made fresh to order, and the coffee included with breakfast is tasty. I like that their menu isn't enormous because it allows them to focus on fewer things and do them really, really well. A few of our favorites are: their molletes with chorizo (a simple breakfast of crusty bread with refried black beans, cheese and chorizo), the breakfast torta with chorizo (not the giant tortas you find other places but the bread and flavorful fillings really shine), tacos de papa, empanadas with carnitas, but everything we have had has been great. Their sides are few but yummy. I'm usually not a black bean fan, preferring pinto beans, but I really enjoy their black beans. They also serve platanos con crema as well as esquites. The esquites very well may be made with canned or frozen corn but they doctor it up to be a really delicious side. I highly recommend this taqueria. Plan on going several times to try some of their more interesting and less common menu items. You can get a burrito anywhere, and while theirs is wonderful, you won't find some of their offerings at many places in town. This was a Uber eats order, first time customer of this restaurant and last time will order. Burrito had little to no meat. Chips and salsa missing the salsa. The sided of rice was missing. The side of guacamole was extremely salty. The empanada quesadilla was tasteless.. actually missing the salt. And the aqua frescas didn't help wash away this bad taste/experience they also were extremely to sugary /sweet. Currently experiencing a nauseated stomach from this order. Responding to owner from google review: we didn't ask for fries lol we were talking about missing the side of RICE! This indicates there's also a listening issue with your staff when talking with customers over the phone. Also we did not receive any 2oz signature salsa in our bag clearly your staff had missed/ overlooked that when bagging up the order. Also I did pay for chips and salsa there was no chips for a side order requested except for the RICE not (fries) that we ordered, I have it on my order receipt paid for chips and salsa. The owner of the restaurant displayed poor customer service. When my friend and I walked in he wouldn't even respond to me saying hello so I just assumed he was hearing impaired. when my friend's food arrived it was missing the corn. Although he said he would bring it out right away, he never came back to our table. We asked him if we could get it to go since he forgot "In his own words". He served another customers food and charged a client before he even started preparing her missing item to go. He never once changed his gloves even when he opened the door to take the food out to a customer sitting on the patio. He also used the same pair of gloves to turn off a heated lamp outside, cash out a customer on the register and make the corn...finally. I encouraged my friend to just throw the corn away. Maybe he was having a bad day but someone is gonna get sick if he continues to operate in this manner. read more

Machete is small in location, but big in salsa flavor. Their salsas make their food. I particularly like their medium. It has a zing, and heat that will glow your lips, but not enough to overpower the food taste. Their mild salsa is the green variety. The service was friendly, and quite happy to answer any questions. I stopped by for a quick snack, and started with the chicken taquitos. The chicken inside was moist, but by themselves had a very mild flavor. But when the medium salsa was added, the taquitos came alive. I particularly liked this when I could get the salsa garnish, with the medium salsa, on the taquito in a single bite (fortunately no videos of this were made). Then there was a good combination of heat, cool and crunch. The street tacos over all were okay. Instead of 2 thin tortillas, there was 1 thicker tortilla. The meats, by themselves were okay, the bistek was the most flavorful of the bunch. Again, the salsa added the requisite flavor. We tried something different: Plantanos Con Crema. This is warm fried plantains, lightly covered with sweet cream and cinnamon. It smelled great! The sweet cream played nicely with the tang of the fried plantain. It was a good treat. Located at the corner of Alabama and Barton, is in the southwest corner of the complex. This makes the parking far easier. This location is quick in and out. But if you choose to stay, the out door patio was nice (with space heaters), albeit, at times, a bit noisy. read more
