Macita's is a classic colombia restaurant that goes way back and has history. They have two locations, one off US one and the other one in Kendall. I visited their Kendall location which has a convenient ventanita. Inside they have a bakery section where there are plenty of sweets and savory foods to purchase. I chose to order chicken empanadas and arepa de choclo. My only complaint is that I wish they gave more cheese! I think the butter cheese ratio could have been better but the arepa itself was soft and flavorful. The chickens empanadas are absolutely delicious and filled with a ton of chicken. So I called the Macitas in Cutler Bay and asked if they still made it. They don't but suggest I check with the Kendall location. I called there and asked if they made it and it was going to be for my husband's 75th birthday. The woman put me on hold, checked with whomever and came back and said yes. So here we are getting ready to make the trek to Kendall, when something told me to call and make sure........ You guessed it...... they don't make that ! Empanado pork, a huge steak of pork breaded and golden perfection.came with rice, beans, maduros. Cazuela Paisa, topped with Chicharrones steaming hot pot full of goodies. Plato Paisa-the beans on the side were Luke warm( needed re-heating so were sent back by the table. The Fried egg came overdone, so no running egg to moist the rice. The Chicharrón was delicious and the carne asada, maduros arepas complimented the dish. Tres Leches for dessert was good. My favorite place for a delicious bandeja paisa close to my home is Macitas. The restaurant itself is a nice location, cozy with live music at times. It has been awhile since I eat in, but their take out does not disappoint. The portions are the same whether you are eating in or taking out. The food is fresh & tasty. The steak is grilled to the actual term you ask for which is definitely a plus in my book. You can always grab a fresh pan de queso or some empanadas to accompany your meal that are constantly coming out from the kitchen crisp. LITERALLY the WORST experience I have had in quite some time!!! The customer service has gone downhill incredibly over the years and I've tolerated some things but today takes the cake. I called over the phone to order a chicharrón like I've done many times in the past. I asked them to not cut it AT ALL and to leave the piece in its complete form. A lot of times after they cut it, they re-fry it to heat it up and you're left with leathery, hard to chew pieces. The girl over the phone said it's no problem. I picked up my order and then went home. When I arrive I open the package to see that they had cut it. They left the skin intact but everything else was cut. I called to ask what had happened because it was extremely dry and over fried on top of it all and the girl told me that I never asked for it to be kept whole and even if I did they don't do that there. She refused to give me a refund saying I got exactly what I ordered. They then told me I'm probably confused and don't know where I am because they always cut the chicharrón. 20 YEARS I've been coming here since I was a little girl and it has never been a problem. I spoke to Andrea and Carolina Amaya (the owner). Both were extremely rude and did not want to correct the situation. They just repeated over and over that I was wrong and I must've gone to a different restaurant before. They blatantly spoke over me every time I tried explaining what I got in the package. I had to ask them to stop interrupting me several times. Macita's used to be great but they don't train their personnel well anymore. If they changed their system and couldn't cut the damn chicharrón, they should've said something over the phone when I called and let me know this is new and being implemented from now on. Absolutely DISAPPOINTING. They've lost not just one customer but everyone in my family as well along with friends who I've come with here before who have also commented the same about poor service and lack of respect to the customer. Very nice staff. I loved my Colombian beef stew (sancocho). The side salad I chose needs to be on a bigger plate because you can't mix it with your fork. The service... if you call, get ready to be hung up on, put on hold without being asked if you could hold, and stay there, on hold for over 10 minutes!
