It's very sad. I've been calling for 3 months to get into doctor McKenzie. They kept saying I need a referral. I finally got into a doctor to get a referral. Took 3 weeks to get them to say they had the referral. And now they say they are booked until October 2026. My neighbor referred me highly recommended.Doctor referred me highly recommended.Well if you can't get in there, what good are they very sad... i need a dermatologist very badly and it's very sad I can't get in. It is such a shame we have to drive over 1 hour to the valley to get care. I am just so very disappointed!!! And to finish , i've called there at least a dozen or more times and it wasn't until today , she said they're booked until october when I was trying to get my referrals and talk to them about receiving the referral. They did not mention the needing to wait till October of 2026 to get in.Just not good service at all.So sad , because again , I was told the doctor is wonderful. saw dr McKenzie once. Fine nothing special. after waiting 9 months for another appt ( this one was going to be with a nurse) I asked if my husband could take it instead because he has an issue. I was told no they can't switch appts. so I cancelled and will go to Phoenix. and I suppose they will call some other person and give them my appt that they COULDN'T give to my husband? they run their business like Washington DC. I was referred here by my GP. They told me they had no dermatologists available, but I could see a nurse practitioner in August of 2025. Today is November18.2024. I was referred for a severe months long rash. When I said I couldn't do that, she just told me she guesses I'll have to call my GP back. read more

I had to have a mohs surgery... found out they bring in a doctor up from the Valley to do this surgery.... went in on my appointment Monday Morning...the doctor worked on an area above my lip a few times... then he said he got all the cancer... I said great stitch me up so I can leave... he said he could not do it and and he was all done... I needed a Plastic Surgeon to finish it. I ask Jodie MacKenzie who I should see and they wanted to send me to Phx... in the mean time I got a big hole in my face! I said why not use someone in Prescott? The reply was "we don't recommend anyone in Prescott! I found my own Plastic Surgeon in Prescott and took care of the problem. no follow up from MacKenzie Dermatology. I'm Done! read more

Well Dr Mackenzie may be a good dermatologist once you see him, however his receptionist suggested I see their "nurse practitioner" since his first available appointment is January 2023. I explained I had a large lump on my back that needed addressing and felt I needed to see a dermatologist. She said the nurse practitioner "IS a dermatologist". I could not believe what I was hearing. Now I think there is a role for nurse practitioners in medical care, however any medical office that tells a patient that a "nurse IS a dermatologist" -which by the way requires an earned medical degree" is making a dangerous liability decision, not to mention misrepresentation to its patients, at minimum. I would never go to a medical office that thinks that is okay to do. No telling what other poor decisions are being made if this us their practice. Just a warning to beware. BTW I just got into Mayo dermatology. read more

I had "hives" for 9 months and Kim Stover saw them twice. She refused to give me steroids for it. She said, "We could test for it, but 90% of the time, we never find out what you're allergic to." I called the nurse a second time begging to get in for steroids and she gave me one opening. When I told her that I couldn't make it, she was going to hang up. I asked for another time and she said she'd call me back. She never did, even though I called 3 times and left messages. I went to Little Clinic and the Nurse Practitioner immediately saw that it was NOT hives, but an allergic reaction to a my hormone I was taking. I was all cleared up in 1 week. I couldn't believe that I suffered all that time due to Kim Stover's lack of caring and knowledge. read more

What a great experience I had as a first time patient. The medical and office staff are exceptional...friendly, welcoming and efficient. You can't ask for more than that! I was forced to wait 45 minutes past the time of my scheduled appointment. Upon entering the treatment room a nurse asked me which matters I wanted addressed and she recorded these, however the medical expert that saw me, NP-C Kim Carlson Stover, neglected to address each of them. While Ms. Stover was friendly, she was extremely hurried and I was forced to pay $315 for less than 12 minutes of her time. I do not feel that I was well taken care or listened to. read more

Longtime Prescott area resident, here. Now, a 4-time (so far) deadly malignant melanoma skin cancer survivor. I read these reviews, and I just couldn't help but post up. From an unnoticed mole that I'd had on my elbow for well over a decade - for forever, to one day in late spring of 2015 it getting mad - sore, tender, bloody around its edges, progressing to what has now been a 7-year odyssey, a deadly bewilderment - nothing but a surreal experience, but a seriously "real" one. No warts, no boils, no non-deadly stuff for me, just the most deadly form of skin cancer one can have, like going from zero miles per hour to the most fatal speed one can get, in one day. And yet, all I've "had" thus far has been some Montezuma's Revenge + extreme fatigue days these years later. Kim Carlson Stover has been my derm provider now for 7 years, and as of this writing we recently pulled out a 4rth, FOURTH reoccurrence of this deadly stuff that came back bad from biopsy, thankfully "local." I'm now in my second series of immunotherapy, now - long story short: I don't care if Kim is an NP, MD, PHD, PHDDD DD - - if anyone is seeking a real go-getter, a medical provider who is aggressive as she can get with illness curation, with keeping up with the latest trends, methods and technologies, I highly recommend Kim Carlson Stover at MacKenzie Dermatology. Despite this, not a perfect office. My MAIN complaint would be, so much like I've experienced elsewhere, is the "office" person who answers the phone and completely mis-interprets why I called. This has happened to me in very vital times, now, twice in their office and another very huge time in my oncology office- I see a huge trend in the office personnel in these medical offices not interpreting issues correctly, thus "making" health decisions right then and there. Not with regard to their actual medical provider specialists' fault at all- the office folks seem to be weak in interpretation, in general in this area. The exception to that in my personal experience has been my primary care office- quite the opposite. Finally, Kim is just so so so swamped (go figure, in my view), which is not a result of her personality nor professional approach, but rather just how freegin busy they are. She's very scientific, knowledgeable, just far too quick at times I think. Nonetheless, my life has been in her hands with success these years, literally. As one of her few metastatic melanoma patients, she keeps me as a priority, always. She has my vote, hands-down. *use sunscreen, whether cloudy or sunny, everyday! RI. read more

I just visited MacKenzie Dermatology for my first time. I was very impressed with the entire experience. The office staff, though they had just gone through an hour-long power outage were calm and welcoming. The nurses were great, listening to me carefully. Dr. MacKenzie was kind, knowledgeable, and professional. He explained everything carefully, and listened well to any of my questions. The procedure went off smoothly. Had a very good experience here. Being new to Prescott and having had skin cancer previously, knowledgeable docs were important to me. My first experience was with Dr. Mackenzie. He was personable, knowledgeable, and very professional. His choice to biopsy was a good one, as it turned out to be basal cell carcinoma. My second visit was with Dr. Joe C. Who performed my MOH's surgery. Same experience! Dr. Joe was caring, professional as he told me what he was doing during the entire procedure. Excellent efficient service, the doc (Carlson this time) answered all questions, etc. Very smooth experience all around, great service and expertise, staff was attentive and very sharp.
