I ordered an ego power+ battery operated lawn tractor from these folks online, because they had them in stock, and they were a local company with decent reviews. They far exceeded my expectations with their incredible customer service! The lawn tractor was assembled and delivered to my home 2 days after I ordered it, the person who delivered it went over all the details of how to operate it, showed us where all the serial numbers were for registering it, showed us all the attachments, gadgets, etc. Just an overall incredibly positive experience and I intend to do all my lawn and gardening shopping her from now on. I love coming here for my bird food and dog food. Well I just got 2 kittens for Christmas and now need kitten food. They have the best choices around. Staff is always friendly and helpful and most important they are always available when you need help with getting something to your car. They also do home delivery I have used that a few times when I couldn't get there. I only have used the one located in Willimantic but I would assume all the locations are the same. Not sure why, but the cashiers at this place are so very rude. I had to go to this place to pick up pellets for my pet in the past and this place was the only local one who carried the brand. Every time I was there, I sensed some kind of hostility rushing at me. One time, the cashier said "is this all that you are getting?" in such a tone as if she was offended that I wasn't buying more. I have been comming to Mackey's since I was a kid. My Mom has always been a huge fan and I have become one as well. Mackey's offers a wide variety of stuff we need for outside our home as well as for the pets. The help here is always amazing. From the guys that stock the back of the Jeep with bird seed, deer feed and even salt to the charming ladies up front. We usually always stop in to replenish our bird seed and there are always pretty competitive prices. Not only are the prices competitive, but the quality of the products are always great. We have a wide variety of birds that visit and mow down the seed, especially because of the bird sanctuary that is in the state forest behind our home. Not only do we have a wide variety of different birds in the area, but because of the large state forest in our backyard there is a good amount of deer that love to tromp through our property. Because of this we enjoy laying out some hay and deer feed for them, especially during these winter months. The Staff at Mackeys is very knowledgeable and always very helpful when it comes to choosing just the right feed for the wildlife in the area. Mackey's does not just offer wildlife feed and farm feed, but a wide variety of pet supplies. The pet supplies are definitely very competitive with the local "big box" stores and i would MUCH rather spend the few extra cents on a place like Mackey's where their customer service, knowledge and local presence is much more important to me than saving a buck. I love the pet supplies here as they offer a much better selection than Pet Smart or Petco whose products only last about a week or two. There is also a good variety of random tools for working outside and seasonal items and in the spring they have a great selection of seeds and other plants. The aisles are clean and layout of the store is very sensible. If you cannot find something you are looking for the staff is typically always more than willing to help. As far as I know Mackey's has two locations, one on the Willimantic/Columbia line on RT66 and another store in Colchester on Rt16. Both are just as good and very helpful and always a fun stop! Love Mackeys, all the employees are helpful and knowledgeable, great plant and seed selection, always clean and well stocked.

A few days ago I called Mackeys to ask if they gave away or sold pallets in which we were told yes they sell them for $3 a pallet. When I arrived the lady behind the counter asked how she could help me and I said I would like to purchase some pallets. I asked her if it would be possible to pick the pallets because I was using them for a craft type project and needed certain ones in which she said that shouldn't be a problem but she would ask. Just as this happened an employee who was an older gentleman with all white hair walked in holding a clipboard. She called him by his name and said I have a gentleman here who would like pallets but wanted to know if he could pick them himself. This employee with white hair never looked up from what he was doing which I thought was rude to his co-worker and replied "no, we are to busy to have someone walking around outback picking pallets". I was embarrassed for the female employee who he was so rude to and I was appalled that he would treat a customer that way. Because of this they lost a sale and I will no longer return to this store. I refuse to support a store that treats its customers this way. I understand if they could not accommodate me but I don't like how it was handled. Thankfully I was to find another store who gladly accommodated my need and gained a new customer. read more
