I've been a sporadic customer for five years, but last December put me off. Rather than making a return of a new product easy, I was trapped into using a store credit or taking a big dollar hit. Unless you're absolutely sure of what you're buying, MACKITE will make it hard to return something you decide against. The details: I ordered a 6m wing, inflated it on the wood floor in my livingroom, and realized it was too heavy. I packaged it neatly in its original box with all labels attached and got in touch with MacKite. My options: store credit though they did not have what I was looking for, or taking a 15% haircut plus paying shipping back--and not their commercial shipping cost, but the over-the-counter cost of walking in to UPS. All told, I spent $575 on the wrong wing and my mistakes (wrong wing, wrong company!) cost me $250. read more

I have been a customer of Mac Kites for over 10 years. They used to have great customer service but not anymore. I can rarely get anyone on the phone to ask questions now. When I had an issue with a wing board that totally de-laminated after minimal use they said there was nothing they could do. There are a lot of other companies out there who still care about their customers so I'll be taking my business elsewhere from now on. read more

Just completed the 8 hr 2 day introductory kite board course which was limited to 3 people. Everyone had an amazing time learning a very interesting new and exciting water activity. Our instructor Justin Stehouwer was very detailed in his explanations , demonstrations and coaching . Always showing great patience with our group of "old guys" . We completed with a very good skill foundation and are all ready to take the next step in our development. read more

I just had an AMAZING weekend at the two-day kitesurfing school up in Muskegon. Mike is a top-notch instructor, and the whole lesson was focused on how to get started safely and with the opportunity to get as much hands-on time with the kites as possible. I would not recommend to take Kiteboarding lessons there. We had an awful experience with the private lesson ($399) at the Muskegon MI location. It was our summer vacation and the kiteboarding was supposed to be a gift for our 19 years old son who had some experiences with KiteBoarding in Canada. We thought it would be nice to give this to him before going off to college. Our frustration started from the beginning. We booked this lesson (12-3pm) 3 months ago but only one week prior to the lesson, they emailed us that someone was available to teach at 2:30pm. We booked 3 months ago but no one was assigned until one week prior?? On that day. We went to the meeting location around 1:50pm to get ready. The meeting place was just storage and there was no one to talk to. A couple of instructors came by but looked puzzled that we were expecting the lesson... There was no reception at the meeting location so we could not contact the office. An instructor finally showed up around 3pm. And he said that he was told to come at the last minute and rush to be there. I could tell that he was not ready to teach mentally and not so happy to interrupt his weekend. And then another frustration started. I do not call it the lesson, but the 3 hour lecture at the beach. The instructor talked and showed him how to do 95 % of his time. Our son was not allowed to even touch the equipment in the first 1.5 hour. The instructor finally let him kite towardend. However, although he was kiting well, the instructor took the kite away from him immediately. It looked to me that the instructor cared more about his equipment than his learning. I was not sure how much this instructor had teaching experience. There was no actual kiteboarding in the water although our son begged him several times to do so because he was ready and had some experiences in the past. And the lesson was not even 3 hours. We found later that they tried to contact us to cancel the lesson around 2pm on that day because the wind was not sufficient. However, the meeting location did not get any reception so we did not get any messages and kept waiting for an instructor to show up. I understand that it is a difficult sport and depends on the weather. However, my biggest frustration was communication. Should they contact us at least noon on that day?? Don't they know there is no reception?? I wish they would contact us about the cancellation at least by noon so that we get a full refund and could do something else on that day. We wasted a whole beautiful day. read more

Try to purchase a kite last night. Price was great so I waited till this morning with it in my cart to make sure I would get the correct height. Price went up $400, but they would not what's new honor the price that was quoted and actually change the price in my cart before I could purchase it. Have a talk with them via chat but no help. They did offer me a 15% discount but as with any retail business will certainly lose that and more in the long run by losing a customer. They were pleasant about it I must admit but they actually change the price in the cart and that I don't think is acceptable. Just my opinion read more

Unbelievable service! I live in Canada and ordered a few items from Mackite. The staff has always been incredibly helpful and informative. They packaged up my stuff and had it shipped to me faster than I can get stuff shipped from a comperable vendor in Canada. Despite the standard customs and shipping fees their prices still make it worthwhile. I've never left a yelp review before, but I felt I needed to say how much I appreciated the outstanding customer service from everyone at Mackite Boarding. Especially since it's pretty rare to have that experience these days. It started off by me ordering some new foil wings, which ended up being out of stock. They emailed me with a solution and I was super rude to them back. But that didn't stop them from continuing the excellent customer service and trying to get me what I needed. In the end they helped get everything I needed from a sister company of basically the same foil wings and had it out the door and shipped half way across the country in 2 days to my door step. I was a total jerk at first, and apologized for my frustration and they still managed to blow my mind on how much everyone there helped me out and got a whole bunch of products I ordered to me so fast. When shopping for kiteboarding gear, I spent much time searching the internet. On everything that I looked, Mackite had the lowest prices and the best selection. The guys who work there are very knowledgeable and take their time to answer all the questions. Also, their YouTube videos comparing the equipment are the best. Also love that they have free shipping and no taxes if you're outside of Michigan. I had a leash failure. I called them, describe the issue, and they immediately sent me a new leash, which got to me in San Diego in 3 days. Excellent costumer service. read more

I ordered a few things from Mac that weren't expensive in the past and I can't complain but I recently I ordered an expensive board from them and it didn't come close to performing like it should and they. I suspect something internally was wrong but instead of putting it in the water and watching it sink they charged me a restock fee of just under $300 by offered to refund my card for $500+ less claiming shipping costs and seem to rather tell me I don't know what I am talking about I'm just a beginner..Well that's not true I have been in this sport a long time but whatever. Beware they are just gonna restock the board and it may be you that gets it. So when I received this board it was just in a box. There was no plastic, no leash, no swag, nothing which I found odd especially being from Naish. There was no presentation. Now I suspect this board had already been returned previously. Regardless a company like this is a gamble whenever you order anything. You are stuck with it and the return policy is worthless..If you are looking for performance gear I recommend finding a demo location near you or just not buying unless you are willing to eat it...and in the future I am going straight to the manufacturer. It's not worth a small wait time to have problems like this. read more

It is unfortunate that the only review listed here is by Aaron who is part of MACkite. I contacted MACkite because I needed to purchase a broken strap for my Axis 2014 limited Carbon fiber board. Initially the person I spoke with was very helpful and friendly and even trying to get the strap covered by warranty since they deal with Mystic products which are handled by the same rep as Axis products, which was above and beyond my expectations. Then Aaron got involved and because I didn't purchase the board from them, quickly and abruptly shut the kind work of his associate down and stated to me "I should apologize as some of our team members may have been overzealous in trying to help you with a product warranty for a brand that we do not carry, nor do we have access to. To make an analogy, you have effectively come to a Cadillac dealer looking for parts for your import. Now that doesn't make sense, does it?" This just sounds like poor business and management, undermining the well meaning work of a co-worker, speaking down to a customer and being ignorant of the fact that your mystic dealer also deals with axis and was the person that wanted to cover this under warranty by simply getting a little more information. I contacted another shop, who I also didn't purchase the board from, as it was a gift, and they sent the broken strap replacement out charging only for postage and stating that they just wanted to get me back out on the water. Sorry Aaron but if that is how a Cadillac dealer helps a customer, I'll stick with my import, an Axis carbon fiber board. Maybe some day you'll see the big picture. read more
