Just visiting for the weekend and needed a new tube. Took my bike in and they had time to change the tubes and give it an entire tune up. Found out portions were wired improperly and now the bike is as good as new. Will was awesome and kept us informed regarding diagnostics and pricing throughout the process. My bicycle, am old Schwinn 10 speed is now running better than ever. It was ready when promised and at the promised price. Have used one other bicycle repair place just outside of Grand Haven that took weeks to repair the same bicycle at a higher price than promised. I recommend this establishment instead. read more

If I could give a 10 rating out of 5, I would. Matt Meyer is the epitome of customer service. We road into Grand Haven after 2 days of 100 mile rides from Chicago, and we were having some shifting and braking issues. He personally attended to both our bikes that allowed us to do 111 the next day through Muskegon (ferry to Milwaukee) and back to Chicago. Very grateful for such a kind and talented person. My wife and I are recent empty nesters and decided it was time to retire our old-school mountain bikes that gave us 33 great years of service from serious off-roading in California in our 20's to hauling the kids in the baby seats and tagalong to graduating to many rides to the beach and Coast Guard parade with the kids on their own bikes. The aggressive nature of those bikes was great when we were younger, but in our 50's they were just becoming more and more uncomfortable. We went to Rock-N-Road and met Phil, who deserves 10 stars all the way around! He asked questions to determine what fit us best and immediately had the perfect bikes to offer us demo rides on. Bikes were in stock and we purchased on the spot. The wide cushy seats, suspension, and upright posture feel like we're riding on a cloud! I cannot give enough praise to this company. There were numerous times throughout the years when my old bike had a minor breakdown when we had ridden in to Grand Haven from our home in Spring Lake for Coast Guard festivities. I would stop in to Rock-N-Road to see if they could fix it so I could make it home. They always had what it needed on hand and not once did they ask for compensation. Great service. Lots of bikes to rent. I don't know if it was a mistake or just their policy, but there was no charge for helmets, which I thought was a nice touch. Prices were about the same as another shop we looked at- less than $70 for the three bikes we rented (24 hours). We got two adult bikes and a "half bike," which attaches to an adult bike for my daughter. We called two other places in town, and Rock-N-Road was the only place that offered this. It was much better than her having her own toddler bike with training wheels (which they also had), as she was able to keep up and we weren't worried about her getting tired out. I didn't really notice their selection for BUYING bikes or accessories, but I was very happy with the rentals. read more

Stopped in today and bought a used bike for my 8 year old. The service was fantastic. They made sure the seat was adjusted and helped me fit it into my hatchback. Got home to Ann Arbor and of course he wanted to try out his new ride. Four hours later he's still out there and made two new friends in the neighborhood we just moved to. I was taking an extended bike tour around Lake Michigan and noticed some annoying, nasty, crunchy sounding noise coming from what I thought was my derrailleur. I stopped in to have it looked at not knowing that what was to follow was one of the worst customer service experiences I'd had in my 61 years...namely in the form of Tim, presumably the owner- an arrogant flamer if there ever was one. Instead of making a good faith attempt at actually diagnosing the problem, Tim adjusted the derailleur- and while doing so launched into a lecture about how I was missing the point of my ride...by buying a bike that was too expensive for my purposes (not sure how he knew what my purposes were) and that I would have done better buying a bike that cost 1/3 the price (kind of like an Audi mechanic telling a patron he should have bought a VW). He also implied that my focusing on the annoying noise was further proof that my touring priorities were out of whack. To add insult to injury, Tim confessed to me that he wouldn't be so candid if I was a local customer (as if to say...I'll likely never see you again so I'll tell you what I really think of you- massive prejudgments and all). My point- I came to get my bike fixed not to be lectured to, scolded, judged and admonished (in fairness I had an extremely positive interaction with Matt- very knowledgeable and customer centric). The finale: I took the bike into another shop two days later in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. The mechanic there actually rode the bike and diagnosed the problem immediately: the free hub was not torqued properly. He repaired the bike successfully in five minutes...and without any arrogance or self-righteousness or judgment. read more

The employees here are very friendly and make you feel like part of the cycling community, even if you're a total noob. Prices are fair and sales are pressure-less. I highly recommend this store if you're looking to get into biking or are in need of parts or repair. read more

My brother, cousin, and I were blown away by how amazing this place is. Not only is price super cheap, but all of the bikes, helmets, and locks were in great shape. We had never done something like this before, so an employee named Liv helped us out with getting us the right sized bikes and helmets. She gave us pointers on the bike friendly roads nearby and was all around genuinely kind and helpful. We got our bikes in no time! Return was even easier. We gave them our names, got the bikes to the employees and we were on our way. We will definitely use this place again and recommend to everyone! read more

We are from out of town and stopped by Rock and Road for a couple of bike-related items and adjustments. The staff was very nice and they had a decent inventory of needed items. My wife and I just purchased bikes for the third time so we have had prior experience. Rock-n-Road is by far the best bike shop that we have ever visited. This time we visited two different shops and decided on Rock-n-Road as the salesman, Matt was the most knowledgeable that we have ever encountered. He knew every adjustment to make sure that the bike that he suggested for my wife fit her perfectly. He made adjustments to the handlebar to ensure that she was sitting comfortably and had her sit on the bike and peddle backwards while he held it to check the fit and the seat height. The best that we have seen from other shops is the salesman asking, "how does that feel"??? They have many high end bikes but also reasonably priced "bike path" ones that we wanted. We recommend them to anyone that is looking for a bike. read more

So, I vacation in Grand Haven, have best friends that live there and probably spend 6-8 weekends there each year. I also ride ALOT prob 10k a year average. So... I have been in lots of bike shops. That being said, I will NEVER re-visit this store. I twisted a chain on my last visit. stopped into have it replaced, and the mechanic (Who looked like"Chumlee") made a wise ass crack about a sticker with my name on the bike. something like, "What are you some kind of Olympian " ?? When I returned for the bike the next morning I was presented with a bill for $135.00 for a new chain....Big mistake Chumlee...You never know when the guy who needs a chain might be a guy who owns 15 bikes. read more

This company doesn't understand the future value of a customer. We lived and operated a business in G.H. for years before moving out of state last year. While back on holiday we decided to rent bikes and chose RNR based mostly on our familiarity with it. We had done business with them when we lived in town and figured they could handle a simple rental transaction. My wife called ahead and was assured they had a bike seat for our 2 year old. She was also quoted a price of $10 (for the seat). When we got there we were informed, rather rudely and without explanation they in fact do not rent children's bike seats. All they had were trailers. Their attitude was strange and unexpected. Strange considering we were the ones who had been lied to and unexpected because a good business would take responsibility for a misunderstanding of this kind and work to make it right. The vibe was we were out of line and how dare we question them. Never the less we agreed to their new terms and were off with our bikes. That night I got on-line to check my CC account. The total for the rentals was $10 more then my wife had been quoted on the phone. We were puzzled. She had not looked at the total when signing the receipt, but couldn't understand the discrepancy. When we returned the bikes I asked to see the receipt. Sure enough, we were charged $20 for the trailer. The trailer we didn't ask for. The trailer we were essentially forced to get because we had been promised a seat that didn't exist. Although I don't think these guys are smart enough to be intentionally scamming people, this is the modern day equivalent of a bait and switch. I asked to talk to Matt, the MOD to see if knew what was going on in his store. Not only was he aware, but he was on the defensive and looking to argue with me. He was short with me and even started using hand gestures at one point signaling me to hurry up and get to my point so he could tell me how I was SOL. He did not take responsibility and he implied that the situation was our fault and we were being unreasonable for questioning the transaction. Bottom line, the customer service we received at this bike shop was deplorable. They had multiple opportunities to make this situation right and instead they chose to squeeze $10 out of us. In the process costing themselves countless dollars in future earnings from our patronage. Bad business. I guess we're just not cool enough to shop at your store. So we won't, ever again. read more
