This was a nice place and my family and I had a really good meal. The ambiance overall was nice, all wood all around with sportsman themes and I love the old telephone hanging on the wall. It was a bit humid inside as it was a 98 degree day... The waitstaff was polite and very friendly, we had called and made the reservation for my wife and i's 25th anniversary, of which they did not mention after asking on the phone if it was a special occasion... They seated us in the center of the dining room while there was a window seat overlooking the river still open. (Also noticing the top windows in the dining room were quite grimy and would let in a lot more light if cleaned.) The orders went in fine, food came out in due time and the waiter upon pouring the wine said he would maintain the wine glasses, but did not... he did come with one round of water refills when I set my glass towards the edge of the table. We got Duck Fat Fries for the table, Black pepper Aioli ~ shaved parm and tasty pieces of smoked bacon. They were very tasty and we cleaned the plate except three completely black fries on the plate which were unedible from the bottom of the fry basket which some how made it on the plate. The waiter also mentioned that he would clear the bread and app plates "to give us some more room" and did not... Then commenting on the empty duck fry plate "that we must have enjoyed it" as "it was empty" but then not taking it... We stacked all the plates in the center of the table and they were not taken until he came to box the leftovers... My wife had the Tenderloin Tips... she ordered them medium rare but they were well done and no pink at all... she reported that they were tender even tho over done and that the Fettuccini was cooked nicely although there was an overbearing amount of sauce and the wild rice was toothy... I had the Blackened Redfish ~ a Creole favorite, I get it when ever I can (and had it two weeks ago in central Florida)... the fish was treated nicely, the sauce was smooth with a light kick over a bed of wild rice that I thought was cooked well... The shrimps were a nice touch and a nice size as well... My mother got the redfish as well and did enjoy it too. My Father ordered the Walnut encrusted Walleye which he stated the coating was a bit thick, but said it was tasty and he did enjoy it. We all enjoyed our fish while of all three fish dishes, all three separate plates had bones we found. The seasonal veg on every plate was the same, one small carrot split in half which was quite tasty and well cooked, three small sprigs of asparagus which was perfectly cooked, one slice of red pepper (which my wife commented was odd), one mushroom split in half that I believe was cooked in a cognac (which my mother said was "very spicy") and a 1/4 of a small red onion which was cooked nicely while still having a good tooth. The meal it's self was very tasty and we enjoyed ourselves but There were a few simple things that could have been done to make the experience better. over all a nice enjoyable meal.... 3.8 stars read more

My brother ordered a Fillet and it was so salty he couldn't eat it. He took one bite out of it and pushed it aside.The waitress should have known to ask him if there was a problem, well she didn't and he didn't complain.The waitress raved about how amazing the coconut cake was, well it wasn't to his liking. My Steak was cooked to my liking I enjoyed it. Now the freaky part is the Bartender kept looking over at us and that was a little creepy. First time dining experience. Saw the restaurant sign on the main road many times but never made the turn. Finally, tonight, our first experience. I had no idea what to expect since I didn't review the menu ahead of time. So it turns out they serve TOMAHAWK ribeyes on special occasions and they had a few left from Valentine's!!! Golly!!! The special menus said they have them in 2-5 pound sizes but the smallest they had left was a 3 pound! Well, I couldn't help myself!!! I ordered it MED with flame charring on the outside! It was served with baby golden potatoes and fresh vegetables. My wife had the Surf & Turf! Pictures to follow. Our waiter, Shane, described everything thoroughly without our prompting! We also had the Winter Sangria Moscoto drinks and then the wife added a Magic Margarita! We took home chocolate cheesecake and white chocolate bread pudding with rum sauce!!! Three in our party, two had salmon, and one pork oso buso. Dinners were very well prepared, and large portions. I had a glass of of sangria, it was refreshing, but lacking in flavor and wine, for $8 the small glass was not worth it. The service was very good and friendly, we were very well taken care of care of. The setting is beautiful overlooking the river, dining room is ample and tables rang with many views of the river. This restaurant is a little of the beaten path, but well worth the drive. For a great meal and new location. I will definitely return. read more

We just had dinner at PJ's for the first time. Jimmy the owner/operator was incredibly accommodating and friendly as was the rest of the staff. They made us feel at home. We had the bacon wrapped quail and duck fat fries for appetizers and the osso bucco and creole shrimp pasta for dinner. Every item was exceptional and we could not have had a better experience. I'd been wanting to try PJ's for a while and when I saw they had a lobster Thermidor special last weekend I jumped at the chance. I had made reservations for two on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. and literally was stuffed in a corner surrounded by empty tables. We were greeted by who I believe was the female owner. Efficient, but did not exude friendliness. I started with a cup of the whiskey shrimp soup which was really tasty, my friend ordered the spinach artichoke dip, which tasted good, but looked really overly fussy. Lobster Thermidor -- for those who don't know -- is basically a lobster-stuffed lobster with white wine and breadcrumbs. It was a 70s staple of elegance, but the reality disappointed. The lobster on top with the breadcrumbs was dry and flavorless. The bottom portion was watery and also lacked flavor. It was served with a bland wild rice and what tasted like a microwaved bag of mixed vegetables. I barely touched either. I know this is super petty, but on their Facebook page they said it was $38 and on the menu it was $39. The male owner checked in with all the diners, but skipped us. Not that I would have complained, but it added to the feeling that we were an afterthought. I'll try them again I'm sure, but I think Whispering Woods provides an overall better dining experience. read more

What a great surprise this place was. We have been fishing at Genes Trout Lodge for years and looking for places to eat and decided to not go to Mountain Home and I looked on Yelp and PJs. Came up. We went for brunch on Sunday, called the night before to make sure we would have a table. Hands down the best Bloody Mary I have had. I mean the guy behind the bar was a master. MIL had steak and eggs which looked delicious, wife had the same and FIL the same, all excellent. The kids had 'the best pancakes they have ever eaten' with warm maple syrup. My chicken fried steak and eggs were phenomenal. Also try the duck fat fries, awesome!!! Our waitress was fun and energetic and was very very good. What an awesome find. On a holiday weekend getaway to the Norfolk lake area and needed a spot for dinner after we arrived Friday evening. We weren't sure what to expect at all but were blown away with the whole experience. From the Owner, who greeted us like we were family, to the fabulous food, we could not fault anything. They are open Wed - Sat, then brunch on Sunday. Next time we were in the area, made dinner reservations. Started with the smoked trout appetizer (very tasty). Had the crab stuffed salmon and Thai seafood cakes (crab, scallops and shrimp). Both were great. Owner and chef checked on us. Great family run place, will gladly go again next trip. read more

Shortly after, we met our waitress who brought our water and bread and then we waited to see patrons that came in after us be served drinks, appetizers and have their orders taken. After asking about our wine order, our beverages were delivered and our order was taken. After another half hour, we asked to cancel our order and leave. No compensation was given for our miserable experience until we were in the parking lot getting into the car when one of the owners offered to comp our meal. This review is for the restaurant only, not the entire lodge. I've eaten twice here, including dinner this evening. The entire experience exceeded my expectations both times. I think this is about the nicest place to dine in this area. It is located on the banks of the White River. There is no cell phone reception at all, which is a plus and keeps people from chatting on their phones while others are enjoying their food. It is more expensive than most, but well worth it once in awhile. The service was exceptional, very friendly and attentive. That means about as much as the meal sometimes to me. The food was also excellent. There are steaks, several fish and seafood dishes, chicken, appetizers, a variety of desserts, a salad bar, and a full beverage bar. All are served in an arrangement that is as pleasing to the eyes as to the palate. Tonight I ordered the evening special, blackened tilapia with a delicious creamy sauce with crab meat in it, vegetables, rice pilaf, salad, and dessert. Everything was wonderful. The steaks are excellent as well. I highly recommend giving this place a try. read more

Went for V day. Food is EXCELLENT. Staff is nice/courteous. 2 hours from seat to check but we had a four course meal. About 30 minutes from Mtn Home. Google will say 20, but it's 30. You pay for what you get. You don't come here for uber quick service or a cheap dinner. You come to PJ's when the night out is about the experience of the trip/scenery/food and the enjoyment of those at your table. Good job PJ's. Hidden Gem overlooking the North Fork of the White River. Didn't expect such a gastronomical delight of fine dining in this small rural Arkansas town. We had their infamous Whiskey Shrimp soup followed by the Surf and Turf dinner of Grilled Shrimp and Rib Eye Steak. Both presentation and flavors were exceptional. All menu items and aspects of this hideaway look like they won't disappoint. Fully stocked bar with some delectable specialty drinks also. We had the Kentucky Mule and Pomegranate Martini. If we get back into this part of the country again, this will be a mandatory stop! The lodging looks like it would be exceptional and romantic also with it's riverside location. read more

What a fabulous meal & enjoyable experience! From the 5 star food, to the attentive staff, PJ's did not disappoint both tines we ate there last week. We went to Norfork to fish for a day, so we booked a cozy room at Pj's White River Lodge for 2 nights. This beautiful resort is right on the river. I thought ahead & reserved a table for our 1st night, the 2nd night, we just arrived & were seated without a problem. We started with cocktails out on the deck & enjoyed a visit with one of the owners. Once inside, we had a cosmo & Kentucky Mule--both so refreshing. We skipped appetizers the 1st night but got the smoked trout appetizer (they are known for) the 2nd night. It did NOT disappoint --amazing smoky flavor & well prepared, served with 2 types of smoked trout (pate', and filet) crackers, pine nuts, craisins & green onions all around. YUM. The 1st night i ordered the pork chops (2 huge, thick chops cooked perfectly!) But i substituted the veggies/potatoes for their "special" salad of the night, a sweet blue bacon salad....OMgosh SO good. My husband got the caesar which he liked, but the bacon blue was much more flavorful & interesting:) my hubby ordered the Tuscan Chicken and WOW! I would love that recipe! It had kalamata olives, tomatoes, balsamic....mmm mmm. Served with their veggies of the day (asparagus, tiny carrots, onions, mushrooms) were all excellently prepared. Ending with the coconut cake the the owner handmakes with 6 layers--was NOT to be missed!! It literally filled a dinner plate! The 2nd night we got there early enough to get in on the specialty entree "Shephards Pie "......holy moly--it was a gigantic piece & several inches thick! So so fresh & the chunks of steak were perfectly cooked. I am seriously drooling wishing i had my leftovers right now! GO to PJ's when you are anywhere close to Norfork, Arkansas. The family that owns it will roll out the red carpet & you will not leave hungry -- PJ's is so peaceful, relaxing & beautiful scenery is the icing on the cake! We will return and soon! read more
