Small neighborhood gem with Michelien star worthy Italian food! Having eaten my way through Italy in places like Tuscany, Cinque Terre, Amalfi Coast & Sardinia, I am always up for a good authentic Italian meal. Some places get pretty close to my spoiled standard of Italian but Macosa Trattoria really hit the mark for me. For starters, we had the marinated castelveltrano olives and fried artichokes.The olives were perfectly marinated with a hint of citrus flavor, not salty and not bitter but fresh and flavorful. The fried artichokes came with 4 florets fried with an extra crispy tip mixed in a lemon, parsley and mint salad. The plate seemed small but the portions were surprisingly just enough. For dinner, we shared the oxtail pappardelle and fritto misto. The pasta was fresh and the flavors in the oxtail sauce was incredible. We considered ordering a other plate but glad we didn't cause as I mentioned earlier the plates seemed small but were surprisingly just enough. The fritto misto arrived last and included pulpo, calamari, a small fish filleted with the head and some shrimp also with the head fried. The seafood incredibly fresh and the heads fried to perfection. We ate every bit of it. For dessert, we had the tiramisu and olive cake. Best tiramisu I've had in a while. It was perfect in every way. The olive cake was also amazing. It was topped with candied lemons and a bit of flaky salt giving it a lovely balance of sweat and salty which I am typically not a huge fan of but this one was incredible. Im so happy we stumbled across this place! Its a pretty small venue but less known so each time we have walked in without having to wait to be seated. The staff has always been a delight and even provided us with complimentary drinks and dessert which surprised us. We are obsessed with their seafood appetizer, its our favorite thing on the menu. Its a variety of fried seafood with a space dipping oil. It has not disappointed! We have also ordered the oxtail Pappardelle, a few of their specials and their rigatoni. I have liked each of their dishes but their appetizers are really a highlight for me! read more

Went here on a weekend night out, the atmosphere was pretty good, cozy, sociable, the crowd definitely felt young like 20s-30s. Appetizers were okay. The radicchio salad was a bit bitter but the chicken liver crostini was pretty good. We got the oxtail ragu & bucatini amatriciana which were both excellent. Drinks were strong, but not overwhelming. This a truly welcome addition to the Bed Stuy scene. We ate in the garden out back which was very warm and welcoming. I took my vegetarian --what shall I call her? --goddaughter, is what she feels like hailing all the way from Edinburgh Scotland. I had the watermelon salad with arugula and insalata and my son, naturally, ordered the braised oxtail on saffron risotto. Both were delicious! Service was kind, prompt and helpful. Prosecco was flowing. My only concern was the portion sizes. Whilst my Scottish lass had the pomodoro and my husband had the evening's special-- a pasta loaded with anchovies and shallots of various textures-- and both tasted superb, we were all rather peckish after an hour. I've had two solo meals here, and each time I've left plotting my return and the next dish I'll try. Obviously the pastas are the showstopper--fresh, hearty portions, and so clearly made with love and care. The burrata and sour dough is an excellent way to start your meal, and I wouldn't skip dessert! The pasta options rotate, but I really enjoyed my pasta alla norma during my second visit. The wines are also well priced, and the staff makes great pairing recommendations. Came here on a Sunday. I was surprised to see that they had a backyard! That alone made me want to stay. There was no wait time so that was a plus. I skimmed the menu before and set my sites on the oxtail ragu with pappardelle noodles for $25. Very happy with the flavor and portion size. Staff was nice and attentive. This is a very cozy spot to take your partner for dinner. The menu is compact but there is something for everyone. And on the night we went, there were several specials. We ended up having some of the appetizers and two pasta entrées. They have a variety of Negronis to offer from the bar as well as a nice wine selection. The seating is a bit tight so conversation somewhat difficult both due to the ambient sound level but also so as to not have everyone hearing what you are saying. The biggest mistake I've ever made is living in the neighborhood for years and only visiting Macosa for the first time this week. I was already a fan of the owner's Manhattan restaurants, Malatesta and Spaghetti Incident, but somehow Macosa outshines those wonderful, dependable restaurants by miles: The oxtail ragu is just as dreamy as its popularity suggests, and the wild boar rigatoni is one of the finest dishes I've ever had, full of umami and tender meat and just the right amount of cheese. I had the pleasure of visiting twice. My first time with my cousin, who was visiting from London. We enjoyed a tender oxtail dish delightfully paired with risotto and each a glass of Montepulciano. I enjoyed it so much I came back a week later with my husband in celebration of our anniversary. Tonight I returned in hopes of having a solo dinner... a terrible disappointment. I walked in and the male host begrudgingly greeting me. I asked for a table for one, he replied only in the patio on a brisk fall night despite several tables inside being available. Why wasn't I offered one of the empty tables? One can only assume. I asked if there were seats at the bar he said yes. I made my way to the back to sit and there were none (all of which the hostess observed). On my way to the front to discuss possible options, I was ignored-and subsequently I left. As a 30+ year member of this community I relish in our new found dining options. My disdain settles in when establishments make clear your business isn't welcome. I have had the oxtail ragu which is delicious and last time there we split the lasagna which was many slices of pasta along with ricotta and pesto. They didn't have the usual tiramisu for dessert, but the olive oil cake with blood orange garnish was quite tasty. We ate in the back yard, coming in when it started raining. If you like greasy oily food you will enjoy this. However, not nearly enough salt to balance it out. I feel sick. I'd recommend using less oil and draining off some of the grease from the meat. More salt is necessary. And a little acid to cut the fat. I had the meat balls and the sauce was so greasy I could taste the tomatoes. I also had the Spagehtti Aglio Olio Peperoncino which needed some salt and lemon and some pepper desperately. And still also had too much oil. There is hope for balancing these dishes out! Unfortunately, I found the food at this restaurant to be underwhelming. The oxtail ragu lacked flavor, and the menus were literally wrinkled pieces of paper written in marker. It was quite juvenile actually, didn't make sense and lacked originality. I love Italian cuisine and there are so many great restaurants in Brooklyn. Bed-Stuy holds many cuisines, from jerk chicken, seafood to sandwiches, there is a plethora to choose from, and no shortage of flavor. But alas, Italian food can be rare in the land of the JZ train, so stumbling into Macosa Trattoria was no mistake. Upon arrival, we where sat quickly. The menus where uniquely handwritten, which required a bit of deliberation to interpret, but wasn't to difficult to translate. Our order began with house wine and the promising Frute de Mar, as praised by the waiter. The sea life arrived quickly and we dove in (no pun intended). The food was tasteful and overflowed with flavors, but this is where our stay worsened. What we thought was a tasteful wait from the waiter to allow us to enjoy our food, turned into over 30 minutes of absence, in essence the restaurant lacked service, and struggled to maintain the tables they had. When a waiter did woefully stumble back to our table, we quickly ordered the burrata and our pasta entrees. The burruta came quickly, although the inventive grilled peaches were as sour as Olivia Rodrigo's album. Our entrees proved warm and welcoming, the gnocchi and Ala Norma left clean plates. Overall what was completely lacked in service made up for in the sustenance of our dishes. I would recommend going for a later lunch or an early dinner. This was a lovely experience ..a real gem waiting to be discovered. Unpretentious but comfortable decor, a solid wine list, and some of the freshest ingredients you could imagine. We had the Burrata and an olive plate for appetizers and these were so fresh and fantastic, as was the rapini with fresh Parmesan. . The brown butter sage gnocchi was a guilty pleasure and the rigatoni with eggplant was solid. Topped it off with olive oil cake. Had a friendly chat with the enthusiastic owner of this new spot.. he's from the neighborhood.
