There's not much I can say that others haven't already, but I love this store!! Any store where you literally laugh out loud in is pretty much priceless IMHO. Great gag gifts, cool little novelty kitchen gadgets *a mouse-shaped cheese grater comes to mind, as well as a temperature-changing water faucet light. There's way more stuff along these lines, you'll just have to see for yourself.*, a great line of Paul Frank stuff, nostalgic toy items, religious? novelty items *The Last Supper after dinner mints, anyone?*, to a myriad of hilarious books, magnets, lunchboxes, "Life Is Crap" tees, and oh so much more. Best "crap" store I've been to in a long time. They had some items that I haven't seen before that gave me some good laughs.

A lot of other reviews have been done about this place - it is in short a neat place full of kitsch, gag gifts, and hard to find funny items. Is it necessarily high brow? No. The place has its share of fake poop, etc., but it also has things like small cartoon books (the suicidal bunnies series) , postcards, bouncy balls, rubber duckies, and little plastic figurines. The variety and quality of the products vary (some are much higher than others), but it's a nice place to stop in to look around and maybe find a small gift for someone. If I'm with someone new to Portsmouth, and we're just browsing around downtown, I make sure I take the new person here, just for the novelty factor. It also has later hours than a lot of the other small shops in town. read more

Best store I've ever been in for gag gifts and hilarious kitsch! How can you not love a store that is full of Jesus, bacon, and boobies? The greeting cards and stationary were my personal favorite section... but there was plenty of other stuff that got me giggling to myself and rushing over to show my husband so he could laugh, too. It's a fun store... you will most certainly find SOMETHING here to bring home or gift to a friend... and even with the type of merchandise the store carries, it isn't dirty and tacky like the old Spencer's at the mall. It has more of a kitschy feel to it and is just a fun place to meander around and be entertained. read more

This store is so cool. It has gag gifts, but also some things that are more cutesy than crude. You could find something for anyone in here. The layout is a little tough because it can get so crowded and there isn't much space for moving around, but it's a pretty fun place! Bacon flavored breath mints? Sex position books? between this store and macroscopic next door, i seriously doubt there is anyone who exists that you couldn't find a gift for on this block. i could (and do) browse macro polo for like an hour every time i'm downtown. before i leave, i am always 90% convinced i need to start buying my (not yet pregnant) friends gifts for their (as of yet unconceived) babies. terrific selection of cards, books, gadgets, housewares, and etceteras. whether you come in looking for a gift for someone or not, i bet you find one! read more

If I could give this store a negative star I would! Walked in and the staff looked directly at me and did not say a word. One employee was talking on her cell phone in an area I wanted to look at but couldn't because she was so oblivious. The woman behind the counter was an extremely rude individual. For a store that if full of fun items these 2 sucked the joy out of it. I will never go back again. I went there for years but it's sad to see a business get bad! read more

Love this place. Quirky and weird toys, pranks, and gadgets for all ages. Really a fun store to visit, even if you don't buy anything. It's not very spacious, so during peak shopping times it can feel a bit cramped, but it's still worth braving crowds for the goods they have here. Puzzles, silly action figures (Einstein, Jesus, and Rosie the Riveter are all popular ones), wind up animals of all sorts, stickers and magnets, you just have to go! It's permanently April Fools Day at Macro Polo. From the little plastic babies to the Little Miss books out back, I love this place. It's great for gift ideas when you're shopping for your friends and just want something funny. No, there's not much in here that's really useful, but everything is so fun and colorful and awesome that I could spend hours here playing. read more

This is a cute store...a little country-esque in the stuff they sell but it is in Portsmouth! I recently went in this past weekend while visiting Thanksgiving week/weekend. I happened across adorable little baby booties in a lamb motif and a monkey motif. They were both from the same manufacture, the same size of 6-12 months and in the same drawstring pouch packaging. One was marked $10 and the other was marked $11. When I was cashing out the young girl working gave me my total of $22. When i questioned how she came up with that total she told me that they were both $11. I politely pointed out that the price tag on one was marked $10 and she replied with a a rather rude laugh. I realize that this complaint sounds cheap, however it is not about the money, especially given that it's the difference of a dollar which is 1/3 of a price of coffee. It is the fact that due to an employee, an item in the store was mismarked but had gone unnoticed. While I realize that it is at the discretion of the owner to honor such errors, I find it in poor taste to not acknowledge a customer's concern and/or to acknowledge it in such a rude way. Having an extensive background in retail management I realize how difficult it can be to manage all the store's inventory and how tedious it can be to make sure prices match both in the POS (point of sale system) and on the retail floor, however that IS part of being in retail. Having had my own employees mismark prices before I had the chance to review, I was happy to honor the lower price as that was a mistake made by my team...NOT the customers. I hope that the owner (as I assume this is a privately owned business which I think is wonderful) realizes that some of its employees might need a reminder on retail etiquette or return customers will be lost. read more
