This is a complete scam. Do not rent a pontoon from this asshole. They will say that you ruined the prop and charge you an extra $200 for the repair. A brand oooh new prop for one of these junk pontoons is less than $75. He showed me the prop and said I ruined it, there wasn't even a scratch in the paint. I said show me and they pointed at nothing and charged my card any ways. After a great day I ended up pissed for days. I wouldn't even buy a bag of ice at this scam yard. The pontoon was new and in very good condition. Sam was polite and explained things well. He provided his cell in case any issues came up on the water. He explained areas of the lake that were shallow to avoid damage to the prop or engine. The boat is equipped with a fish finder with lake map and depth, and a depth finder. That helped a lot, as there significant sand bars in certain area and depth changes quickly around them. It was a very nice sunny day and my wife and I really enjoyed just getting out on the water. read more

Mac's Marina is great! It was easy to find right when we got off of US 23, right at the end of 8 Mile Rd. We took a long pontoon ride during our family reunion and the entire experience was smooth sailing. The boat was clean and in great shape, and the owner and his son were very nice and helpful. They took advantage of my wife and her friends that rented a pontoon for 4 hrs! They brought the boat back to the dock and got charged and extra $200 fee because a little paint was missing off the prop! First off a brand new prop for that motor doesn't even cost $200 new and they refused to let us have the old one because they claim they "repair the props". So $200 damage charge for missing paint on a prop that costs $100max brand new that they're going to "repair". Good scam guys! Spray paint that prop again and get the next people too! They claimed we hit the bottom and "damaged" their propellers, then charged us $200 in damages. You can see from other reviews that this is a theme with them. They purposefully paint the propellers so that with any mark they can claim this BS. I guarantee that this business will just paint over the "damage" with no repairs. What a racket! I should have known from the start that they were bad. The parking lot was full so we called and spoke to an employee on where to park. The kid told us where to park so we did. We were walking up with all of our heavy bags and one of the guys told us that we couldn't park there. He was very rude and condescending. When we were going over the details of the pontoon ... one of the employees was very adamant about us taking pictures of the prop before we got on the Pontoon. So we did. Once we were out on the Pontoon boat, we noticed there was no ladder and the awning/canopy flew back and we had to fix it. It was also an older boat and it kept stalling and smelt like gas. Once we returned, they immediately went to the back of the boat and said there was damage to the prop and we had to pay $200. We looked at it and there was no structural damage only paint that peeled off from the prop. My friends husband called to ask question regarding this ... they refused to let us have the "damaged" prop even though we had to pay for this because they said they were going to paint over it and "repair" it. THEY ARE SCAM ARTISTS!!! DO NOT RENT FROM THIS MARINA!!! Ps- Mac Marina- take the background pictures of me and my friends off your home page 6 years ago! Absolute scam artists on every level.When we called to reserve a boat they said it would be $400 dollars for 4 hours,when we got there they tried to bump the price up to $500. After arguing with the same person I reserved it with,he said he would honor the $400 "this time" When we left they were late getting us out so he said we could have a extra 1/2 hour. Then with 26 minutes left we got a text saying if we didn't have it back in 4 minutes we would be charged a extra $150. Once we got in,you guessed it,the prop had some scratches on it so they said we owed the damage fee,even though they couldn't show me physical damage. When I tried to ask about the fee one kid who said he was comanager started yelling at me saying they would have to rebuild the lower end at the end of the season.i had to ask him to calm down. If it truly was damaged that badly why would they wait to repair it?And if they could wait for 2 months for the repair,why was I being charged for it? I called Mac's and inquired about renting a pontoon boat for the family. We were unsure if we wanted to do an all day rental or just 4 hours as all day seemed it may be a bit long. We decided to go with the four hour rental plus 2 paddle boards. The boat pulled into dock on time returning from a previous rental. The boat was cleaned and we went over how to operate the boat and areas to avoid on the lake to prevent running aground. The boat was clean and well maintained, the service from the staff was great. The only issue we had was with the paddle boards. Both boards were missing their drain plugs which allowed them to fill with water fairly quickly making them sink a bit below water with a rider on board and making them very difficult to lift back onto the boat. If their wasn't the issue with the paddle boards, they would get 5 stars. Other than that, everything was great and we will be back to rent another pontoon as the rates were fair, the boat was nice and the lake was great! read more

On the plus side, the staff was kind and very attentive. However, for the boat rental rates they charge, their equipment is abysmal. The boat was extremely outdated with only bare minimum functionality. The majority of the features were inoperative and unmaintained. I hope they can rectify this horrible shortcoming and modernize their fleet, not just keep their aged and outdated fleet running. Sam and his son Spencer did a great job. We did a 4 hr pontoon boat rental with my wife, daughter, her boyfriend, my in laws and wifes aunt. They assisted my father in law who has some physical limitations due to health issues. They were very helpful and service oriented. I highly recommend Mac's Marina when looking to rent a boat. RE: Pontoon Rental - do not do it! They are scam artists. We hit the bottom of the lake once, and they claimed we damaged their prop so severely that it would need to be replaced. When we pulled back in to the dock, the first thing the kid did was check the prop and announce the damage and that we would have to pay for it. Prop had minor scrapes where paint was missing. They charged us $200 for the replacement of the prop, which is an exaggerated price. (You can see from other reviews this is a theme with them. The group who came in before us that day had the EXACT same experience. Coincidence? I think not.) They take no responsibility for maintenance of their equipment, as evidenced by the old (from the 1970s?), rundown pontoons they rent. On the rundown pontoon we had, the old, inefficient motor took several minutes and dozens of attempts to start. We should've known we were going to have issues. Not only are they scam artists, they have zero customer service skills. We spent $420 on rentals that day, and had another day scheduled the following week for another $420. Instead of seeing the big picture of accommodating, not alienating, a customer bringing them over $840 worth of business in 7 days, they chose to hit us with a bogus $200 charge, talk down to us, act rude and dismissive, ignore me and take phone calls as I spoke to them, raise their voices, and then, in the end, lose our business. These people are rude scam artists who utilize outrageous business practices. Stay far away. It's a racket. read more

Very disappointed in this place. When we first arrived the group before us was charged for damage to the boat and charged $200 for a new propeller. After changing the propeller and disinfecting the boat, we boarded our pontoon and were given directions about the areas to go to or to avoid. We listened thoroughly and stayed at least 1000 ft from the shoreline per the instructions. However, while driving along the suggested route, we encountered rocky terrain and difficult waters. After navigating through, we started to have issues with the boat stalling and shutting off any time we tried to accelerate. Once our reservation concluded, we returned the boat and began to explain the issues with the suggested route and the boat engine stalling. The guy who waited on us had no interest in listening. He took one look at the propeller and saw a small ding and said it needed completely replaced!! We were also charged for $200 for a new propeller. TWO propellers in less than 8 hours ?!? Insane. Do not recommend. If you want a great place to rent a pontoon go to Klaves Marina. read more

I recently rented a pontoon for a ladies day on the lake to celebrate my birthday. Josh, the manager at Mac's Marina was so friendly and accommodating! When I initially called to inquire about the rentals, he was very informative and answered all of my questions. I have never driven a boat before and was a little uneasy about doing a rental at first. Josh offered to take us out before our scheduled rental time to teach us how to operate the boat and tour the lake. As my rental day was approaching apparently rain was as well.. :( I called Josh to see what my options were, and he offered to give us a later time that day (if the weather permitted), reschedule or said I had the option to just cancel without charge if the rain ruined my plans. Luckily, the rain cleared just in time for our scheduled time! Upon meeting Josh and his associate Nico, I was impressed with their friendly and welcoming personalities. They double checked the boat for gas and escorted my group and I to the boat where Josh explained in detail about avoiding damage. Then (as promised) he took us on the tour of the lake making sure to point out areas where damage is most likely to occur and where the best sand bar was for swimming. Before taking him back so we could begin our trip, he was nice enough to take a group photo of us as well! The day turned out to be beautiful, the pontoon was in excellent condition & the lake was clean! I am also impressed by the rental rates! I'd like to to Josh for his excellent service. We were treated respectfully, became very well informed on the basics of operating a pontoon and familiarized with whitmore lake. My experience with this company was no less than 5 stars! Called the day before I wanted to rent a boat to surprise my father for Father's day weekend. I spoke with a guy and explained that my Dad had poor use of his legs and we would like to reserve a particular boat that had couch seating in the front and back since my Dad couldn't sit upright (in a chair) for extended periods of time, and we were going to have a full boat of people, so I wanted my Dad to be able to prop his legs up on the couch seating in either the front or back of the boat depending on where he was sitting and the location of the sun during the day. I also explained that I was not ready to commit to renting when I called because I wanted to make sure my Dad's health would permit him to go the next day. The guy I spoke to said "oh don't worry, since it's within 48 hours, I won't charge you if you have to cancel." I said "Are you sure, because your policy says no refund within 48 hours?" He assured me that he wouldn't charge me if we had to cancel. The next morning, I called around 7:30am to see when the boat would be ready because I wanted to get there early to get my spot on the particular boat that I had inquired about the day before. I was speaking to a different person than the day before, so I re-explained the whole situation with my Dad's health. He told me that that particular boat was unavailable and we would have to make do with the boats that have plastic chairs in the front of the boat but there was couch seating in the back of the boats that are available. I said, okay, that's fine, we are leaving Ann Arbor now, so I will be there about 8:00am (this is when the rental was supposed to start per their website, as advertised). After some personal delays, we arrive at 8:40am expecting to board a boat and the same guy on the phone (Nico, I believe) tells me that none of their boats are available for at least another hour because they were all having mechanical issues. I noticed that one boat was leaving his dock which had couch seating in the front and back of the boat. I asked him why he didn't tell me that boat was available when I called at 7:30am when I was very specific about requesting one of those boats due to my Dad's health, and he tried to cut me off while I was speaking. I asked him why he didn't tell me that none of the other boats would be available until 9:45am when I clearly stated I would be arriving by 8:00am and he again just cut me off while I was speaking and stated that he is busy, trying to get all customers taken care of, and would be concerned for our safety if the boats were not worked on before we took them out. I told Nico that we paid for an all day rental and that's not what he is offering us now so I am canceling the reservation. He stated that I am still responsible to pay him, and I said absolutely not and referenced the facts that he was in breach of contract for not providing services during the times advertised, and that his coworker assured me that I would not be responsible when I spoke to him on the phone the previous day. Nico finally agreed to let me cancel without paying but did so while making a suggestive comment that I cancelled because he heard me arguing with my wife. The business lacks all professionalism, communication, and courtesy. They forget who the customer is and do not grasp the concept of "earning someone's business." I wouldn't give these guys a nickel of my money. Please heed my warning and go elsewhere; anywhere! read more

My family and I were looking to rent a boat for the day, as our out of town family was visiting. Upon arrival, we received EXCELLENT service from each and every employee. One young man even carried our very heavy cooler from our car to the boat. We also received EXTRAORDINARY service from one employee in particular, Nico. Nico gave us wonderful instruction on how to use the boat, and even went as far as to sit on the boat with us as we practiced. We had never before driven a boat so we were quite apprehensive.
