I came to this Macy's to find some men's grooming stuff and potentially for some clothes. This might be some OG Macy's and I figured it's in Southdale and in Edina, it must be nice. However, the selection in men's grooming was haphazard, messy and a really poor overall. There was very little help from the staff, they seemed spread thing. Today I visit this location which I drove far to get my favorite perfume as I discovered that I was out. I have used this perfume for over 10 years . To my amazement I was immediately welcome by a lady by the name of Kathy who works at the Chanel counter . She was so amazing and went out of her way to look for my perfume . I feel like this Macys is the longest standing store in SD mall. I worked at Herbergers back when it opened late 2011 for a few years. I would often adventure over to Macys food cafe to get the spicy white chicken chili. It was my favorite thing to get at the mall in general. I do stop by to browse the store from time to time. I like checking out new fragrances, graphic t-shirts, sales racks and so on. They generally always have some kind of deals or sales going on. I used to be in love with the brand Celebrity Pink jeans and would get them here for $15-25 which was a great deal for the quality. After I left Herbergers in Mid 2013 I felt like Southdale was on a decline. It's felt pretty dead, with many stores closing but seems like the high-end retail turn around may be working for them. The good about Macy's is that they have a Toys R Us ,Back Stage and Ladt act sale. I Love the prices and savings too. One thing about this location is some of the staffing on 3rd floor that was following me around the floor. Im not sure why at that time about a month ago as it made felt uncomfortable and asked if I needed help. I said no and left. I have been at this location many times either if I'm shopping or just looking and never been asked. I came back last weekend to shop and no staff stopped me. It's so strange. read more

The clothes so far at Macy's looks something between formal evening wear and I gave up on life type of wear. I tried on and found one bright orange Karl Lagerfeld silk blouse in this entire store. So I tried to make a large purchase at Macy's on Sunday night and they had to transfer me to an AI to give my card information. I didn't even grab my card because I knew they have me right in front of their screen once I give them my name and date of birth After an hour and 45 minutes it was my bedtime and I don't know how long it could've gone on, but I know I could've shortened it by probably 30% if they would stop thanking me anytime I gave them some information. Oh thank you for giving me your birthday. I said can you do the math on it and figure out how it's not correct the kids don't know how to do math without a tablet in their face. This has got to be the worst department store in the twin cities... if not Minnesota. It seems Macy's has given up on attempting to cater to customers, and has given up on this store in its entirety. The bottom floor near Starbucks used to be home to brands like free people and theory--now it's CottonOn and a bunch of crap that looks like it belongs on a Marshall's clearance rack. Good luck trying to find someone to help you, or anything of value. This place is so sad now it pains me to step foot in. Bad service, bad selection, dirty, run down, and s-a-d. I'm sorry. Stopped in here quickly, mostly just to browse and my friends ended up finding something they liked. Already that's a surprise because I find it is nearly impossible to find ANYTHING at this Macy's. We stopped at a register by the elevators and the women's shoe section. There was one cashier talking with what appeared to be a customer and no other associates in the area. We waited about 5 minutes before the associate even made eye contact with us, only to say that to purchase clothing we would need to go to another register. First and foremost, could that have been communicated 4 minutes ago so we didn't waste our time? Add to that the fact that we are literally trying to give you our money, and we're going to have to hunt down another non-busy register. Yikes. Not how we'd like to spend a quick lunch, and overall a very rude experience. The checkout we did find was ok - slow, but I suppose that's what you expect there. Honestly, is there any training anymore? I was in your store for 2 hours on a Tuesday evening. Not one associate even looked me in the eye, but would pass by quickly hoping I wouldn't stop them and god forbid ask a question. When I was finally ready to make my purchase in intimates, the woman just stared at me and didn't say anything. I said, can I check out here? And she replied yes. But that was it. No greeting, no chit chat. No nametags required anymore, so I can't tell you her name. It was very awkward all around. Did Macys layoff all their employees at the Southdale mall? Attempted a $200 Karen Kane purchase on the lower level. The lines at the few registers around had one employee. Left my purchase. On my out I found a Kate Spade item in the purse department. Same problem one employee at the register with a couple opening a credit card. Not even an acknowledgement from the employee. Waited five minutes, walked around trying to find a register with a human being to ring me up. Result was the same. Dropped the item off and left the store empty handed. I am on my way to Nordstrom's to spend the $400 I was going to spend at Macys today, hopefully with better luck Macys get your crap together. Today there was a Vienna Beef hot dog cart in Macy's. The oddest part is that it was across from the perfumes. Do you know how hard it is to pick out a fragrance when the only thing you can smell is hot dog? I really came here to get a new pillow and I walked away with one that wasn't too expensive and that I am so far happy with (though it's only been tested on a 1/2 hour nap, but so far so good). As far as clothes go, I can never find anything I want to buy here, though last year I bought a few tops and a pair of jeans and the sales clerk went on and on about how much my daughter was going to love them, even though I was buying them for myself. After finally coming to terms with the fact that I am actually old enough to have a teenage daughter (though I don't), I realized the clerk was trying to tell me that I dress like a 15 year old. In the days that followed I came up with all sorts of come backs I should have laid on her but didn't. I keep looking for her so that I can say, "If you had a body like this you could wear these clothes, too." Fortunately for both of us, I think she has since quit. read more

REGISTERING... I have never had a problem with Macy's... Okay that is a lie--I miss Marshall Fields with all my heart. Ok-now that that is out of my system. Macy's doesn't compare to our old hometown delight, but that is besides the point. My fiance and I went to Macy's Southdale to register and had a horrible experience. We couldn't find anything... Why are there table clothes in EVERY corner of the store and not centralized in one place? Why are all the bed spreads made for my great grandma's nursing home bed? Not only were their products below par, the customer service was WAY OVER THE TOP. We just wanted to register in peace and that was out of the question. One hundred service people came up to us and asked if we needed help. We only lasted about 30 minutes before we both had a mental breakdown and left our registry with a lonely 30 items. We hope to go to a "better" Macy's to finish off that registry. We'll keep you posted, but in the mean time, *Caution Tape* around Macy's Southdale if you are heading there to register. read more

If you're looking for some things to fill up your kitchen I think the housewares department at Macy's is about "as good as it gets". My daughter was making some purchases for her new apartment so we headed to Macy's. I feel what sets this department apart from others is the employees. My daughter and I were lucky enough to have "Josephine" help us. She had patience beyond belief and spent an hour plus helping us shop around the store for specific items. She had the advice in every category we were looking for. From time to time I've been in the housewares departments and there are others just like "Josephine". These employees have years of experience and really know their stuff. Shopping in the housewares department can be confusing enough so this is one area in helps to have someone who's knowledgeable. There are usually "deals" galore and items are frequently on sale. If you're a Macy's cardholder the discounts can get even deeper. During the holidays they offer their "Thanks for Sharing" program which gets you additional rewards on most Macy's Credit Card purchases. read more

Wow, sounds like Jessica O and Hillary R had horrific experiences here. I was at Macy's today and had a pretty pleasant experience. I got some great deals (2 polo shirts, 1 pair of jeans, and 1 t-shirt for the boys for under $30)! I refuse to pay full MSRP for clothes and head for the sale racks first whenever I go shopping. Macy's tends to have nice quality clothes - the fabric tends to be thicker and lasts longer than stuff at Target or even Penney's. I had trouble finding a cash register that was open (as in, with employees who could ring me up), but when I found one, the employee were very nice. She even scanned the 15% off coupon for me even though I didn't have one with me. Looking at the dates of the other reviews, maybe the poor service has to do with when you shop - I bet they hire temporary help for the holidays and I'm guessing that since those people are temporary, they don't really care much about providing good customer service. read more

The bedding department was wonderful to deal with the other day when I had a return. Long story short - purchased a full sheet set awhile ago, gifted it to my mom, she never opened it, she regifted it back to me, I opened them, washed them, went to make my bed and discovered the fitted sheet was a twin and the top sheet was a full - despite it having been sold as a "full" sheet set!! In realizing this would not work for my full bed - I called the store and explained. They told me to come in and they would see what they could do for me. Amina in bedding, another sales associate whose name I didn't get, and the manager were fabulous! We got the sheets returned, I got a credit and purchased a fabulous Martha Stewart full sheet set that I LOVE!!! I love macys southdale... I love that they carry premium designers like BCBG, Nanette Lepore, Trina Turk, and Rebecca Taylor... Most macys stores do not have these designers. Nordstrom does. But nordstrom doesn't have the same awesome sales weekends. I love it... As for the registry, my husband and I got married in March and used macys as our main registry. We loved our wedding assistant and because we had a macys card, we got a percentage of what our guests spent on our registry rather than just a measly percentage off... I love macys southdale and hopefully some of you have had better experiences since your reviews!!! read more

Macy's Woman at Edina's Southdale represents the largest of Macy's plus size departments in the Twin Cities. I am grateful for Macy's for having plus size designer options, including Ralph Lauren (adore!) & Jones of New York (love). I would like to see Macy's Woman expanded to other malls and for the collections to include more ASL Tahari suits for career women such as myself. Prices. Macy's has great sales and the same holds true here. I think the value for money is spot on - come back often to take advantage of the sales and definitely get the Macy's card to get additional savings. Location. Macy's Woman at Southdale has a separate entrance and is directly across from Macy's petite there. Brands. Unlike Macy's MOA and other locations, at Macy's Woman at Southdale, there are far more designer names, including Ralph Lauren, Jones of New York, Alfani, Michael Kors, Inc., etc. Staff. Macy's has decreased staffing everywhere and that's sad to see. Here, on my last half a dozen visits there has only been one person manning the entire store, which becomes a problem if you need any sort of help at all. Ninety percent of the staff here, including Louise, are very warm and helpful, but on my last visit, I had someone new who hadn't been there on prior occasions and the service she provided regarding a large return I had was so bad it was funny. She was overwhelmed (though it was not the least bit busy), kept calling for help that didn't come and questioned me as to why I hadn't brought things back sooner - presumably because she wouldn't have had to deal with it;-) I had to send my husband to Ruby Tuesdays and he was able to have two beers and an order of wings before she was able to process a simple return, with receipts, within the time period allowed. I miss the regular, other women that usually man this store. Hopefully I'll go back today and will see Louse or Bonnie - they're the best. My Plea. Macy's can and should be the place to shop for plus size women of the Twin Cities based to it's selection and prices, but Nordstroms eclipses Macy's in the area of service. There should be two people on staff minimum and at least one of these should be adept in personal shopping for plus size women, especially those like myself who need far more business attire options. I'd also like to see Macy's Woman bring in more Tahari suit options in colors other than black and gray. There are plenty of cheaper suits, we need more quality, designer options. The buyer for this department should be a modern, business woman who is plus size who understands that plus size women need options in lingerie, sport & casual attire, business attire and some date night options. We need wide calf boots, belts that fit, tights and other accessories as well. Nordstrom's lingerie has far superior options for curvy girls and amazing service - why doesn't Macy's? For selection, I go to Macys. For service, I go to Nordstroms. I'd like to be able to go to one place for both and suspect I'm not the only one. read more

I bought a Michael Kors women's jacket online, however, the color did not turn out as what the picture was showing online, so I brought it into Macy's Southdale to return. I parked by the men's department so I just brought it to one of the less busy counters (one where they sell men's suit and ties) to return. When I got there, there was only one associate helping another woman with a return, and there was this middle age male associate, Daryl, that appears to be shopping while he is working his shift (looking at different ties), he saw the line at the register but did not jump onto the register to help out the other associate until she asked. When he got to the register, I told him I needed to return this women's jacket. His first question "are you in a rush?", and I said "yes", then he went on to say "well next time leave enough time so you can return it to the correct department, women's jacket is downstairs", shocked at his snarky comment to a customer, I just said "ok". After he was done doing the return his last comment to me was "leave enough time next time because I like things being in the right dept". I'm very upset about this experience because it is NOT my job to go to the correct dept to return an item, from what I understand (when I also used to work in retail) that is it a sale associate's job to assist the customer and not make it a hassle for them regardless if they are buying or returning, and it is their job to bring the items back to the correct dept; customers can buy and return things at any counters they wish that is convenient for them (of course unless it's cosmetics and fragrances where those associates get a commission). His attitude towards me was unacceptable because, from his tone, it was very disrespectful and "snappy". I usually shop at Macy's Ridgedale but since I was in the Edina area today, just thought I'd go to this one instead, but with such unpleasant experience I most likely will never return to this location. Unfortunately, I was unable to speak to a manager in the store today since I was in a rush, but I will be calling tomorrow to make sure my concern about their lack of customer service is noted. read more

Snotty customer service. The managers in all stores won't be bothered to help get lines down when it is busy so there is that and that is too bad since you carry nice items. You are missing out. I have to add that although good about returns, they would rather help those customers "purchasing items" before doing a return for you. Rather irritating... I've written a review of this Macy's suit department before -- they have sold me many suits, and are the most honest, most professional folks around. So, it was an easy decision not to go with Men's Wearhouse or something similar for my wedding. I decided to pick out a three-piece Calvin Klein suit for my groomsmen and could not be happier. They got an awesome suit at an awesome price and they looked great -- at *a lower price* than a rental. In the end, I was able to get a bunch of ties, some more clothes for my rehearsal dinner, and some ties for my father in law and my father under the deal they offer for grooms. Really: this is an AMAZING deal for grooms looking for an option for their groomsmen and for a way for them to save some bucks on groomsmen gifts. More than all that though, these guys were able to get other Macys locations to honor the deal they offered me, and helped the grooms who lived in the area with fittings. In particular, Carl was awesome at being the point person in organizing our wedding party. This suit department's great service was expected given my experience there previously, but it is something that other grooms should *definitely* consider in choosing their wedding attire. :) read more
