The Macy's at Santa Rosa Plaza is looking much more modern these days. After the recent quality remodel, the atmosphere is a lot cleaner and better organized, making it far less of a chore to browse through. What really stood out to me was the sheer variety of brands they're carrying right now--it feels like they've significantly expanded the selection. I managed to score a cool pair of Levi's on sale, so the deals are definitely there if you look for them. The service was also decent; I found the staff helpful and efficient, which isn't always a guarantee in a big department store. Overall, it's a great anchor for downtown and definitely worth a stop if you haven't been in since the refresh. read more

Don't order online pickup and expect it to be convenient at the holidays. There is one checkout for the entire children's section and pick up orders. This is of course the busiest section of the store during the holidays. There were 19 people ahead of me (not exaggerating, I counter) and every single person was making a purchase. It took 27 minutes waiting in line to pick up my order. Very disappointed that Macy's doesn't have a separate line. Scan a code and give the item. It takes only a minute. I had just made a purchase in the men's department and waited only 10 minutes which is of course is to be expected and reasonable. If I knew for sure they had the jeans in the sizes I was picking up, I would have canceled my online order and gone over there. I didn't want to risk not getting in line. Do better Macy's! read more

Unfortunately, the business leaders of Macy's have been running it into the ground. As a businesswoman and independent business I used to go to Macy's to buy my business jackets and some of my sportswear. No longer because there's nobody in the women's department to help you try different pants and jackets on. They have taken it close to the registers out of the women's section and made you walk up to the second level, or take the escalator where he will find a line just like in Ross when there's only one person working that line to take your payment. Macy's is still trying to do it's best in a rapidly declining retail market. There are very few salespeople on hand, but they are polite & professional. The products in every department are still 'what I want', their buyers are on track for seasonal trends and everyday basics, and their clearance & Last Call departments are better brands and compete price-wise with Ross, Marshalls and TJMaxx. I used to love this store. It HAD everything I could want, great deals if you know how to shop the sales, friendly sales people always close by to help, clean organized store... Now a days.. Good luck even finding a sales person, I had to walk around the 2nd and 1st floor searching for someone just to buy my items. It's really fun if your buying bras or underwear bc everyone wants to carry those through an entire department store to make a purchase. The sales people I did find were friendly enough but very short staffed and lots of go backs everywhere. Store was messy and unorganized. The prices seemed even higher than usual with crappy sales. I needed comfortable shoes and the sole employee running the shoe area in the entrance, a young man supposedly named "Elven", was nowhere to be found for about 20 minutes. We waited and waited, found some shoes to try on and he finally appeared. Did he offer us assistance? Nope. Even though we were clearly waiting for assistance he walked right by us, ignored us and scrolled on his phone with his head down, hoping we go away. I approached him and requested some sizes to try on and he was very put out. Super apathetic, rude and unhelpful. I asked for a manager or another employee, as I was tired of his terrible attitude, and he declined to get anyone else to help me. I know there were other staff around cause they were the ones who told me he was in the bathroom, waiting out the clock until 5 minutes before closing time. Then he has the nerve to be annoyed that people are waiting for him to come do his job?! This kid just hides in the bathroom glued to his phone most of his shift and ignores customers ready to make purchases. He was still on his phone as he was coming back to his station. Fire this sorry little dead-eyed they/them and get someone who is willing to actually do their job. Needless to say, I took my business elsewhere. read more

As a handicapped person, there are NO CHAIRS to sit down and rest. I suggested it to the manager in addition to the lack of staff throughout the store. He was offended when I said, "Now I understand why Macy's is going out of business" - he wasn't too happy about that. Due to my mobility issues (2 walkers and a cane) everything is ordered on-line, and my helper returns items for me or I wait for UPS (a great driver). Finding a Macy's employee is very challenging. Years ago after I got married I took some of our money gift and paid off this credit card but for $0.16. Sixteen cents. So greedy are they that they continued to charge me interest on it. I paid of the $.90 bill and cut up the card. Fast forward 1 divorce and 30+ years I got another card thinking perhaps they had gotten their shit together. I bought and returned 2 sets of sheets because they were both the same the wrong color. They reimbursed me for only 1 set. Telling me I never returned the 1st set. I learned ALWAYS return at the store. NEVER online. I bought 3 pairs of earrings all damaged, so I returned them in-store. The balance of my card never changed. No matter what I paid or returned my balance remained at $144.50. I searched and searched for an invoice, a statement, an itemized list that laid out the history of my purchases and my returns so I can see why it is that my balance never seems to go down. There is apparently no such thing. Not even the bill you get in the mail lists your history. And certainly not the returns. Moral of the story? Don't shop at Macy's they are a shitty company. read more

It seems to be a serve yourself operation now. The only employees are the young ladies that work in the cosmetics and fragrance areas. Both stores are poorly stock dirty, and absolutely no personnel. There is so much "Go Backs" piling on racks at the dressing rooms that the selection for average size women are nowhere to be found on the floor. What has happened to Macys? It used to be such a nice place to shop. I don't mind the sales associates approaching me every few minutes - it's better than being ignored or weird vibed. What bummed me out was the presence of a group of guys hanging out in the dressing room lounge area (over by the Tommy Hilfiger area). Thought at first they were waiting for someone but nope. They were just kicking back, watching a movie LOUD on one of their phones. Maybe even taking pictures of women coming out of the dressing rooms? Once their buddy came to the middle of the floor and loud whistles for them to leave, I knew they were just being obnoxious. What irritates me is that there were sales people all over that area. So, I hate to be the person that walks into a store 15 minutes before closing time and have to ask an associate for help, but that's exactly what happened. I'm in the process of moving, and last Saturday night I realized all my dress clothes had been packed away and I had nothing to wear to Church the next day. I got down to Macys 15-20ish minutes before closing and quickly scanned the mens Ralph Lauren Polo section for something that would work for me. I decided on a shirt, but they were all locked together by cable. It took a couple minutes to find an employee available, they were all preoccupied with closing procedures. Connor was leading a clothing rack through the store but happily agreed to come over and unlock the shirt for me. He realized he didn't have the correct key, so he radioed out for someone to assist who does. He received no response, so he asked me to please wait while he ran to grab the key. When we finally got the shirts unlocked, we had to go through and check the tags to find one in my size. There were many shirts to check and I wear an uncommon size(Extra-Large, Extra-Slim Fit), so I felt the need to apologize and thank him a few times, but it seemed unnecessary. Connor had a great attitude and was super helpful. Unfortunately they did not have my size in stock, but I saw some pants that would work nicely. These were also locked up but had a different lock, so Connor had to go grab another key for the pants. I apologized again, there being only 2 or 3 minutes before closing, and kind of expected him to be bent out of shape for taking him away from his closing duties. But it was actually quite the opposite, he was really friendly and had good conversation, even told me a little bit about his mother. After unlocking the pants, he walked me over to the register and rang me up. That's great customer service. I'm leaving 4 stars instead of 5 because the pants I bought, albeit very nice, had a price tag that I felt was high end for industry standards. I was also disappointed that they did not carry my size. read more

However upon asking if they carried a certain household item up on the third floor the associate reacted as if I asked her to sacrifice her first born to Hades himself. Completely pointless to ask anyone for help in there today. They either acted like you didn't exists or were too busy doing inventory. Hard to tell if they were actual Macy's employees or just an outside agency since everyone seemed to be wearing jeans and a blouse. Maybe customer service has changed that much but yet if I walk into the high end section of the second floor where the employees are at least 35+ they actually dress professionally and look like they know their products. I'm a former clothes horse. Now just a stylish bargain shopper, I have NEVER paid retail for a piece of clothing. I rummage through the discount carousels at Macy's. Sometimes I find an absolute steal of a deal. I did, again, today. Found pure white pants (For a Elvis Presley imitator act) that were originally priced @ $59, marked down to $19.99. Got to the cash register, Sales Associate took a liking to me, she scanned some card she had hidden in a drawer. Real price? $7.99. 4 stars for the customer service in the men's department the first time we were here, and 0 stars for our visit today. Around Christmas my boyfriend wanted to pick up some new henley shirts and when the associate saw our faces at the chaos of mixed shirts in disarray, he immediately stepped in, showed us online options, and ordered some shirts to the store for us- SCORE! Today, I don't think our associate was meant for a position talking to human beings (I think his name was Christian?) It took him 12 minutes to ring up 2 shirts, a carry-on bag and a few coasters. When he asked how we'd like to pay and my boyfriend told him he had a giftcard, the man let out a huge sigh and said "great well now I have to ring everything up all over again" which is weird since I've worked at Macy's and giftcard payment is always a normal option. Instead of just scanning everything again, he MANUALLY INPUT EVERY SKEW NUMBER from each item. He then charged us 10 cents for a bag we didn't ask for, only put the 2 shirts in, and said "here carry these" handing me the coasters. If you're confused, join the club. When we got home, he of course left the ink sensors on both the luggage and the shirt. Not going back to this store for awhile. read more

Macy's is a good chain. It's a bit expensive at times, but then, it was never meant to be Kmart or Walmart. I like the chain for its consistency across stores. I can enter most locations across the country and find exactly what I expect and what I want. For example, I'm still using a winter coat that I bought in 1995 and it still is good. The fact that I got it at 40% off one Labor Day sale only added to my satisfaction. Truth is that I shop Macy's a lot for their clearance. Sure, they have good deals from time to time but their housewares often compete with Kohl's and Target, both powerhouses of daily life. As we walked through the store, everything was as it should be, although one of the women working the fragrances and make up was touching up her own. Don't they look down on random customers doing that with the samples? Overall, Macy's is an endearing chain, and I'd hope that they'll exist well into the future, now that they've absorbed pretty much everyone else--Bambergers, Burdines, Robinson-May, Lazarus, Shillito's, Rike's, etc. read more

I ordered something online. They said it would be here by Christmas. I went to track now it says the package would be delivered by the 30th. I called to cancel. Then they said it was backordered and wouldn't be here until Jan 22nd! I said CANCEL it. They're saying they can't cancel it because it was a multiple shipment. And part of it is already being shipped. The part that is being shipped was a FREE fuckin gift for spending what I did. On a conference call with them AND my bank because they won't have the gift here OR refund they money until they get the merchandise back...which isn't even shipped yet. Wtf. Basically they're holding my money hostage...for who knows how long. Probably until AFTER Christmas. I called and asked to speak to a supervisor and then HER supervisor. This review is a compound of my last couple visits at this location. The last time I came here, I was coming for a specific foundation from the Estée Lauder counter. There were a few women working in the cosmetics department, 3 of whom were congregated at the fragrance counter. They were far too busy with their conversation to help me- even after seeing me waiting at the empty counter directly next to them. **I used to work at this location- in the cosmetics department. When I worked here, we wouldn't be caught dead without acknowledging a customer and offering assistance at whichever counter they were waiting in front of, or at least locating someone who could- ESPECIALLY after making direct eye contact with them.** At least one of these ladies made eye contact with me while I was waiting there- which was maybe 10 minutes with no acknowledgement whatsoever. Today I came to look for a bra. There were two ladies working this section, and again- neither greeted me nor asked if I needed assistance. I even made eye contact with one of them as I was walking out of the fitting room empty-handed, and she just kept walking past me without even a smile. I wrote this entire review standing in the middle of the lingerie section- you guessed it, no acknowledgement of my presence. I also just heard a customer in the cosmetics department calling across to salesperson to see if she could be helped as she couldn't find a salesperson to help her. Absolutely ridiculous. Maybe I've just been spoiled on the East Bay, but the North Bay Macy's stores just don't have the selections that I'm used to. This place is much better than its cousin in Coddingtown Mall, but it still doesn't offer the options I'm used to. Plus, the people working here feel like personal stalkers. Here's one example of that in my visit here today: I went here looking for some late summer/early fall style tops. I walked in the store and got the typical greeting I'm used to. I nod back, say I'm just looking, and then continue. I venture from the Style & Co area into the Free People area and that same person is like following me, pretending to work on a rack. I walk over to the Maison Jules area and there she is again. I have worked at Macy's during my college years, I know you're assigned an area and aren't supposed to leave it without a reason (go-backs or stocking needs, etc). So I turn and give her the same question she threw at me: Do you need help with anything? I also added it felt like she was following me. I told her I can't browse peacefully when being followed. She looked sheepish and bowed away, sputtering some nonsense. I thought that was the end of my stalking. Then I run into another lady exiting the Charter Club area. She asked me if I needed help, and I told her I wouldn't and would just like space. She followed me over a few sections. Mind you, I had nothing in my hands in either scenario so it wasn't like I was walking around with merchandise to walk out with. I confronted her earlier than the last and she bowed out, too. It happened with a third associate not far from the INC area. I told her about the other two and she walked off. I did find four tops I finally liked and when I went to the register wouldn't you know there was stalker number one next to another sales associate? She tried butting ahead of her co-worker to take my clothes, saying she helped me and deserved the sale. I turned to her co-worker and said, actually, you'll get the sale. She made me feel uncomfortable. The look on her face, priceless. Note to Macy's, don't make your guests feel uncomfortable. I purchase a good deal of clothing at your stores and so do many of my friends and family. Please teach your associates to read the right signs in their customers and let them shop peacefully. read more

First off, I'm not from around here. Bf and I drove up to Windsor and just so happen to stop here for a bathroom break. (We had yummy mimosos earlier in SF and had forgotten to pee before we left, okay?) Anywho, the Macy's we saw was sort of conspicuous and right off the freeway, we had no idea it was actually a Macy's till we went right up to the door. Anyway, this store is much smaller than the ones in the city but!! they did have the Marc Jacob watches that I've been eyeing since forever and only Nordstroms carry it back in SF. So all in all, a smaller store with more products meaning less walking space and fixtures very close together. Oh, and the bathroom? Typical Macy's bathroom where you have one really nasty stall and a few stinky but passable ones. What can I say? It's a Macy's. read more

This store has really gone down hill. We bought a set of sheets and they were awful to sleep in, very scratchy. They were about $70 on sale. When my wife tried to return them the store made her feel like a criminal. We have a very long purchase history with Macy's and rarely ever return anything, we aren't trying to abuse any policy or get something for free. read more

Let me tell you, this is probably the only place in that mall that deserves any real recognition. I was not sure if Macy's was going to survive, but this location did: so far anyway, unfortunately there is really not a lot of people going to this more now that they reopened after Covid. I'm not from here but I've never perceived it as a good mall, it's 75% cheesy, but Macy's and Starbucks and a couple of other brands, are the only thing that I can say anything good about. this particular Macy's is at the very end, so if you don't park nearby you'll have to walk by doing so inside is easy on any floor. I was in the men's clothing section which was completely empty, but I needed some assistance finding some thing in my size and Marvin helped me out... And when I say he help me out, I mean he was an efficient employee --unlike the other incompetent people in that mall. The item was not in stock but he located it in a different area and he is having it mailed to my home with free shipping. The store is very well cared for and I also dealt with a girl at the Clinique counter to buy some items for my girlfriend and she was also very knowledgeable... I think this Macy's and the apple store are the only reason to ever go to this mall. The smallest is not well taken care of, even the soda machines are funky because nobody changed any of the soda during Covid so you will be buying soda with an expiration date that has passed. I think it says a lot about this place, run down and decrepit. But the Macy's is exceptional-- or rather, anytime I go into a place that I am already used to on the East Coast in New York, it's always a disappointment out here, this is the only one that I could actually say, Is run right. Because I'm going to be honest some people out here are very slow and have really bad attitudes, but not at this Macy's , they are taking pride in their work. read more
