I've been in many Macy's stores. This on has horrible customer service. My husband I are went to buy one thing-a pair of shorts. Found them quickly, tried to pay for them but not one of the registers in the men's dept had an employee at them. When I finally found an employee, after searching 10 minutes, he disappeared on the way to his register! We dumped the shorts and went to a different store to purchase shorts. read more

This store is an absolute pig sty. I tried to buy a packet of white Jockey t-shirts in the men's department this morning, 20 minutes after they opened. The underwear department was trashed with merchandise - some opened and some still in packaging - scattered in piles across the floor. The Jockey display unit was a mish-mash of shirts, boxers and briefs (not all Jockey brand) thrown together in no particular order, not by product nor by size. When I finally found what I was looking for I couldn't find a single employee anywhere in the entire men's department to take my money. I walked all the down the main aisle and back looking for someone. An employee (I think) appeared in the fragrance department and told me that "somebody should be working in the Polo department", then walked away. There was no one working in a the Polo department. I put down my package of t-shirts and left. Doesn't anyone at Macy's care anymore about how their merchandise is displayed or providing a basic level of customer service? It's truly shameful how the once grand and wonderful Marshall Fields chain has evolved into this disgusting hot mess called Macy's. Farm and Fleet, Marshalls, and TJ Maxx all provide a better retail experience than this place. Amazon.com here I come. read more

Came here to return some items that my father got for Fathers day that he could not fit. The woman who was the cashier acted like I had stolen the items because I did not have the receipt. All of the items still had the tags on them and I was not asking for any sort of refund just to exchange the items for a bigger size. She got so flustered that she had to call the manager and the manager quickly agreed that I was right that I could do an exchange without having the receipt. Customer service is a skill that the cashier needs to learn. read more

The only reason I'm giving this Macy's 5 stars is the MAC counter there. Just go see Becky Brown there and you'll see why. She actually knows what she's doing and she's hilarious!! And she knows how to handle multiple people at one time. Love her! Other than that, Macy's as a whole is kinda ghetto, the people never really want to help it seems. Especially in the clothing departments, not even in the jewelery. They'll help you with the make up but that's about it. read more

This place is a dump. Majorly overdue for a remodel. Not sure what clientele they're hoping to appeal to, but the display cabinets are broken, worn down, tiles cracked, ceiling tiles dirty and out of place, parts of the exterior are neglected. My girlfriend took her new watch (xmas gift) in the day after Christmas to have a few links removed and have it fitted. The "watch fitter" at Macy's was inexcusably rude and unprofessional. She first accused my girlfriend of purchasing a knockoff Michael Kors watch, and said she wouldn't fit it for her because it was a knockoff. My girlfriend assured her it was not a knockoff and told her to compare it to the exact same model they had on display in their very own display case. She refused to do this and instead asked a coworker for a 2nd opinion. The coworker looked at the watch and said it was certainly NOT a knockoff... finally, the watch fitter begrudgingly agreed to fit the watch. My girlfriend asked to have 2 links removed. After a few minutes the lady returned with the watch and THREE links removed, for some unbeknownst reason. My girlfriend tried it on and it was obviously too tight. She requested to have a link put back on. The lady acted extremely annoyed, but complied and added on the extra link. When she came back to where we were waiting she tossed the watch on the counter and said "here". Then she walked away. I understand she may have been angry that she was working the day after Christmas, but this type of behavior is completely unacceptable. To treat polite customers like complete trash and accuse them of bringing in knockoffs without proper evidence or explanation is disgraceful. Macy's should be ashamed of themselves for employing workers who openly display such rude behavior. Needless to say, we will not be returning to this store. read more

I came in here to exchange a men's Polo shirt for a friend. There was a ton of inventory crammed onto the sale floor and it was kind of difficult to walk around. I had to wait in line for about 10 minutes before speaking to a clerk. I told the clerk that I wanted to exchange the shirt I brought for a different size. She said they didn't have any on hand and seemed to expect me to go away. I asked her to check other stores, and she responded that the shirt was not available in state. I asked why that mattered - Macy's is a national chain, after all, and interstate commerce is hardly a novel endeavor. She printed a list of stores and said I could start calling them, and they might send me a new shirt and charge me for shipping. I asked if she could just do that since I was already at the store, she had identified where the merchandise I wanted was located, and I wanted to make an even exchange. She responded with some quip about time zones and said I should come back another time. It didn't even make sense. I wasn't in the mood to bicker, so I left - I'd rather bitch about the experience on Yelp :) If I was at Nordstrom on the other side of the mall, the clerks would have bent over backward to help me. They would have arranged for the replacement shirt to be shipped to my house so that I wouldn't have to make another trip to the mall. Instead, I'm going to have to head out to another Macy's to see if I can get a very simple task accomplished. Long story short: Macy's sucks. Whenever I go there, I get nostalgic for Marshall Field's... and all other department stores. read more

Let me explain something, where I live, it's just as easy for me to drive up to Old Orchard shopping center as it would be to drive downtown and find parking. So, I'll opt for the former, and not have to pay $17 for an hour of parking. But, I digress. It was time for some new lingerie/unmentionables (wink) and I thought I would head to Macy's because I know they have a huge selection. Granted, I wasn't looking for the slutty kind, just some new items. I start walking around the department and no one is really there. After a couple of minutes of looking a woman comes up to me, asks if I need help, to which I decline (I really wasn't needing any), she tells me her name (can't remember it) and says if I need anything let her know. So far a typical and normal shopping experience. After deciding on my items, I'm walking to the register and this girl jumps out of NO WHERE and asks the same thing as the woman before, but WAY more pushy and desperate. I tell her I'm all set and ready to check out. She asks if anyone was helping me and I tell her no, which she then practically grabs the items out of my hands and sprints for the register! At the register, I ask about a particular item and she just points in a particular direction and says that's where the items were. Hmm, now, as a retail manager this signals to me that person isn't finished shopping yet and Maybe I should take the time to personally show the items, describe them and answer any questions. For this might add more items to my ticket sales. But no, much to my chagrin, she really just wanted to ring me up. I don't know if they work on commission, but it sure felt like it. Now I know I said before I didn't really need any help, but I was asking for a very particular item, which they had, so I would have liked some more assistance. Anyway, I really just felt like dollar signs to this girl and not really a customer. It was a really disappointing experience. read more

I can't relate to all of these negative reviews for Macy's. I shop here all the time and I've never had a bad experience. In fact, I find most of the sales staff here to be accommodating and friendly. It seems to me that a lot of people carry a torch for Marshall Field's. I loved Marshall Field's too and was sad to see it go. But Macy's is a really nice store. They offer really great deals, especially if you're a card-member. Since the name was changed last year, I haven't noticed any drop-off in quality or service. Marshall Field's is gone - get over it! Give Macy's a fair chance!! read more

I visited Macy's at Old Orchard last week and it was one of the gloomiest department stores I've ever been in, despite the holiday decor and Xmas music playing throughout. Adding to that, not one sales person asked me if I needed help, and I would say I was in the store browsing for at least 30 mins. I will never shop at that Macy's again. Yuck. read more

Where did the basement snack shop go? On the rare occasion I made a trip to the Old Orchard shopping center, I made a point of going to Macy's to have an interesting sandwich in the basement snack shop. The snack shop is gone! Interesting sandwiches [brie on a nice hard roll], salads, hot dishes, etc., all Grade A, and now gone forever. Wow! This Macy's is a mess! I guess deep sales make this place a messy store to navigate through. Employees seem to have given up on keeping the racks organized when there are so many hands un-organizing them. Checkout took awhile, but it took me much, much longer just to find what I wanted. I purchased dress for my friend wedding, when i came to home, i did not like it and bought different dress from different store after couple days, i backed to store and tried to return it with receipt and tag which is attached to the dress.even if i did not wear this dress once an outside , they REFUSED RETURN . I have never seen this before in other stores. This is my last time to shop from Macy's. I will never ever shop this store. They do not care about the customer satisfied. This is purely about Christmas shopping--I bought several apparel items over the course of the season from different departments on different days. I told the cashiers that they were gifts and I would need boxes. Boxes I got. What I got with none of them was tissue paper, which I didn't notice until I started wrapping. So I had to present my shirts in ratty, flimsy, tackily naked boxes. All the other stores I bought or received gifts from this season offered up proper gift-box materials. All I can think is that there was some corporate bean counter somewhere who decided that Macy's could save $100,000 (or whatever) by skimping on tissue paper this year. Cheap. read more

This review is exclusive to the shoe department. Why is it that whenever there is a sale in the shoe department, there are shoes coming out of every corner??...shoes all over the floor, tabletops, shelves, in complete disarray. The shoes on sale were not even grouped in the same size as they usually are, and it was a complete mess to try to find your size. I asked a sales person about it, and she just laughed and was like, "yeah, kinda hard to find your size huh?" Uh, yeah, thanks. I noticed that at least there were more sales people on the floor helping customers get sizes they needed, which was helpful. I suppose in the end I will probably still go to Macys because the sales are great, it's just a pain to have to deal with the mess. It's like having a TJ Maxx rummage-bin experience in what's supposed to a be a nice department store. Oh well. read more

I visited the Estée Lauder cosmetic counter and as always they were offering gift incentives and a great 15% discount. There was an older lady next to me trying to pick a blush that would favor her skin tone as well as her age and was asking the EL rep Priyanka for assistance. As many of you know, selecting the right tones is not something that you can do right away if you are not accustom to wearing make-up. The EL rep Priyanka was so rude to this lady saying in a frustrated tone and in front of other customers "I can't spend 1/2 hour with each customer". She had already tried on 2 plushes and had only one left to try before making her decision. The lady walked away very embarrassed and the EL rep just walked away. This terrible rep gave me wrong information about the product I was picking up as well. Shame on you Priyanka if you don't have patience for customers, you should not be allowed at the Estee Lauder counter. read more

Very disorganized menswear section. I understand it was labor day, but the entire dress shirt section was like a bomb went off, with certain size cubby boxes nearly empty (my size, actually). Took quite a while to check out, with the lady putting stickers on every single item and then scanning it twice. C'mon, there has to be a better system than this. read more

Don't get me wrong, I still shop at Macys because of good sales on designers clothes: Vince Camuto, Calvin Klein, Kensie, Ralph Lauren, T Tahari, etc. In other words, if I see what I like, I buy it, if I got the money, I buy it, if I don't got the money, then I don't touch it but look at it. ^_^ read more

I'm not normally a fan of Macy's, but let me just tell you about the GREAT DEALS I got there today! I was in the market for a new dress to wear to a couple of upcoming weddings. I've been in and out of other stores, and I always have trouble finding something that fits well and is reasonably priced (I refuse to pay full price!). Today, I checked out the dress section in Macy's and found TWO great fitting dresses on the clearance rack! To top it off, they were an additional 30% off, and they're having a special sale so I got another 15% off. Full price, the two dresses should have cost me over $300. After the deductions, I only spent $65. Not bad! read more

Either you couldn't find them during day time or they keep gossip with each other's when we all customers were waiting in line. Always had great personal service. Clothes well made and have always stood up to washing well. Good prices shop rarely elsewhere when it comes to clothing. Their internet selection is incredible and have really indulged myself this year. Exchanges and refunds happen with ease. read more

I came in yesterday afternoon to the MAC counter. I purchased a couple of products and got my makeup done by Nikki. She was so friendly and knowledgeable. She specializes in skincare, and told me your skin is constantly changing but there are things you can do to reverse oil production and pore size. For my makeup she explained all the false lashes and how it will enhance my eyes. I showed her a picture of what i wanted and afterwards she definitely went above and beyond my expectations! At work I got plenty of compliments on how I looked. I mentioned to everyone I just had it done at Macy's. read more

First time visiting the store and I must say it is one of the better looking Macy's out in the north burbs, but not as nice as the one in Deerfield. The layout of the store is quite nice, i like the fact that the store is very close to the main atrium of the mall. Quick in and out. The staff members I dealt with were courteous and satisfied all my questions without hesitation. One of the nice things about Macy's here is they are located very close to the parking lot...i guess the whole mall is, but i just wanted to find another reason to justify my 4 star rating of this place. read more

When i lived in Chicago i used to come here all the time with my mom and we loved it, the people were always nice and they have a very good selection in their fur salon. Typical department store experience. Always best to look for self-scanners for merchandise that may be on sale as the displays and markings have always been marred with pricing errors. Finding a salesperson is difficult on slow days, even for the most simplest of questions. Nothing outstanding nor unacceptable at this location. read more

Fine Jewelry service is horrible.... most of the staff barely speaks English. I asked to have my $9000 engagement ring sized & that it was needed ASAP. Well organized and they have great sales! However, I tend to shop on line more than going to the store, because their customer service sucks. It's awful. They have a great selection of brand-name work-out gear, which I have purchased on-line before. There have been a few times when I wanted to say to an employee "Pull the stick out of your ass" but I do not. The lines are long. The employees are slow and not customer-service oriented. I recall going here to find a specific item right before Christmas. I didn't get much help, and when I asked for help, I was given the eye-rolling with an attitude. I'll continue to shop at Macy's, but it will be on-line. No thank you to this location. Their negative attitudes and deplorable customer service is the reason for my two star rating. read more

This Macy's was fine. We stopped in to add to our wedding registry. There were empty and disorganized shelves in many corners. We only ended up registering for 3 things before getting frustrated. Next I tried shopping for work clothes and the plus size clothing selection was lacking--lots of "old lady" clothes. I prefer Macy's State Street despite the crowds and the loop craziness because it is clean, organized, and lots of selection. read more

Today, I waited in line for a long time while the cashier talked with the girl she was checking out, presumably one of her friends. They took their time talking and laughing, and the cashier neglected to pay attention to the line that was forming. Her friend had three items to pay for, and it took 5-10 minutes for her to check out because they were talking so much. Never mind the line. When I did get to the front of the line, she couldn't find my dress that I had put on hold. When she did find it, I saw that my dress was ripped. When I asked for help finding a dress that wasn't ripped, the girl I asked (different girl) kind of pointed and didn't help me, even though she didn't appear to be doing much. Went to the Mac store here after arriving to Chicago for vacation and I desperately needed some makeup and a little eye makeup to look alive after being jet lag. It was roughly 20 minutes before closing time and there was about 3-5 customers in the store with one employee named Peggy there. I figured she's very busy so I decided to wait until everyone left so that she can help me last. By the time she got to me it was already closing time. So I bought some makeup and asked if she can do a quick eye makeup on me. She hesitated at first then said she would do it for me which was very kind of her. The eye makeup she did on me was perfectly beautiful. I felt great, looked great thanks to Peggy. She was very helpful and polite, if you need your makeup done I would recommend her! read more
