I could've sworn I reviewed this earlier this year, but apparently I didn't. I've been here several times and it's hit or miss. Some employees are great, others are rude (like the one in handbags who told me she couldn't help me return an item because she wasn't familiar with it. Another employee then told me I had to go upstairs to women's clothing. I don't know why the first person couldn't just tell me that I had to return it in the same department where I bought it). Also, trying to do returns here is annoying because they do want you to go to the right department, but rarely is there anyone at that counter. And if there is there is, often there's a long line, while another counter will be line-free but they won't help because the department is 10 feet away from the one that sells the product. (Does it not all just go to the same computer system? I don't get it.) The dressing room in the women's denim section is also kind of dingy. I always associated Macy's with a more designer experience, but it doesn't give those vibes at all. I'll stick to online orders and hopefully not need to return items. Order pickup was relatively easy when I did that for a Black Friday weekend, and their new in-store Starbucks looks nice. The fragrance department associates have been nice when I was browsing fragrances, albeit a little pushy. But, I get that they're trying to get the sale done and they have generally been helpful. read more

Always a great experience at Macy's for fragrances! The employees are extremely knowledgeable and take the time to help you find exactly what you're looking for. They're always upfront about the specials and deals of the day, which we really appreciate--it makes the experience feel helpful, not pushy. The staff is friendly, patient, and clearly well-trained on the different scents and brands. Whether you're buying for yourself or as a gift, they make the process easy and enjoyable. I don't typically go clothes shopping. We were at Old Orchard with the family, including my 92 year old mother who needed makeup and wanted it from Macy's. They have a huge selection of brand name makeup, but I think it was kind of pricy. But, their service is outstanding. Mom is petite and wanted to see their clothes. They have a small petite section, and she didn't see anything she liked. However, I liked their men's selection and walked out with a couple of pairs of shorts for the summer. I still have some bad feelings about Macy's after they bought Marshall Field's and changed the name. But, that's personal and not something to really consider if you are looking for a store to shop at or not. Like most department stores, checking out can be difficult. Finding a cash register to check out at that has someone working it wasn't easy. We finally found someone and were hard sold on buying a Macy's card. (We didn't take them up on it.) Overall, I think Macy's has a good selection of all sorts of items with moderate to moderately high pricing, and decent service (other than checking out). read more

This Macy's used to be the Marshall Field and has been a staple at Old orchard shopping center for decades. They take on a similar shopping format as the old store and have the Frango mints for the holidays. read more

In the recent years, like a lot of people, I have been doing my shopping online. Returns are sometimes inevitable, and are important parts of the entire shopping experience.  So, this review is mostly based on my returns at the store experience. Macy's has made their shipping very easy to track, and if you spend $500 or $1,000 or more a year, and reach their gold or  platinum status, every shipping is free with no minimum. What is most important is that the returns are smooth and easy.  Since they closed the Macy's in Northbrook Court, I have been going to the store in Old Orchard to do my returns. I am pleased that 3 out of my 4 returns were quick and easy (the last one had a long wait because the customer in front of me was buying tons of stuff at customer service, and there was only 1 associate at the counter). The first return there was during the time after the holiday season, there was a friendly staff lady inside the front door to welcome me, and directed me where to return the boots. I was in and out in just 5 minutes. A memorable return was made in the cosmetic department.  Since the lady of my brand was on break, Jonathon who was working at Bare Minerals came over to cover for her to do the returns. He was stunningly beautiful! His makeup was meticulous and gorgeous. He was wearing a trench coat style dress in yellow and green graphic patterns, the outfit was completed by a pair of tan color dress boots. His hair was clean cut, very short, and chic looking. Jonathan was friendly and professional, and he made a great representative of their cosmetic department! His supervisor Jane was nice and friendly too. When I needed to return some ceramic dishes at the customer  service department in their basement, Saleen was very friendly and efficient too!  If you need to go to that department, it's best to park in the Green Garage, which is free and easy to find a parking space. The garage is right by the back entrance of Macy's.  You only need to take the escalator to go to the basement once you enter; and the department is right there. As far as the store is concerned, the majority of the first floor is the cosmetic department, which is nice and clean, and modern looking. There are also shoes and handbags close by.  However, the basement and the second floors could use some renovation to update the dated look.  I will update when I do more in person shopping there. read more

I choose blue sweater to try on on fiting room Ralph Lauren bran also .When I was paying with cashing the lady came to me and loudly humiliated me in front of people. she was asking where is the blue sweater I told her I put this sweater back even holding nicely . Macys, you've gone downhill. Compared to a year ago? I think it's a little better organized and the makeup and perfume downstairs is hopping and we'll-pit together if you like smelling clouds of scent... Upstairs though in the women's section, I have issue. I noticed not all the dressing rooms were open. Then, there were fewer checkouts. And less brand to choose from. Michael Kors is someone I would buy from and he's not there. Christian Dior and other brands like it make products that are absolutely ridiculously out of scale... I wear a large top, and I put on a size 16 blazer and couldn't even put my hand in. Wtf y'all? I felt like half the upstairs were brands my grandmother would wear, and the other half was so wrongly sized that it couldn't work. And where are other brand names... it's like everyone pulled out? I bought 1 green jacket that I'm still debating if I'm goi g to return it or not, and a black top. I tried on other items and the designs and colors available this season really stink! Who is picking out this stuff? Also... revamp the changing rooms. They're worn out. And I really hate the mirrors. Of all the places I shop, JJill, Anne Taylor, Anthropologie... your mirrors make people look fatter. If you want people to feel good about themselves when they are trying on clothes? Get better mirrors, lighting and changing rooms. read more

Hope I can leave zero stars! So much racism is evident at this store from white employees to minority customers. My husband is white, he will get approached and offered help, I am Hispanic and I just get off looks if I'm walking if even two feet away from him! I've shopped this store for over ten years but recently I've noticed this obvious change. In addition I've walked in where the store smells like mold is in ventilation system. How pathetic that I am forced to leave one star, this particular location does not deserve a star! Macys Furniture section at Old Orchard. Finding a couch and buying a couch was no problem, the delivery and customer service is a HUGE problem. So much so, that I would never recommend nor would I buy anything from that store again. You can't charge $200 for delivery, and even more if you want it put together, and then delay the delivery on the agreed upon date 4 TIMES and then CANCEL THE DELIVERY saying truck broke down. Then say ...you won't get sofa for 4 more DAYS!!!! W in the actual F is the problem????? Refund the delivery money maybe? Put it together for free maybe? Oh no, not Macys!!!! Let me just inconvenience the customer who spent hard earned money on our product...... start with the easy stuff Macys... deliver what people buy on time. It's like a pizza... would you want a pizza 4 days later? Then you call customer service and we are talking to a joyful person who is in India taking our call. Not their fault, but she cannot help with anything so we are again wasting our time waiting to talk to a manager.... On hold for 30 minutes to talk to a manager..... hung up.... Just done. If we find another couch from somewhere else we are cancelling this order. Don't spend your money at Macys, they don't care, they just want your money. Again, buy product... deliver product... it's not hard. Zero stars was unavailable so they get one for the nice sales person who sold us couch. read more

Beware of deceptive pricing. They mark down prices to half off but inflate and deceive the customer with the original price. The staff and management have no clue what they are doing. Stopped by Macy's today to find some cute outfits for my trip back to L.A. and overall, I had a good experience! The staff was friendly. Ended up leaving with a pair of Levi's jeans that fit perfectly, so that's always a win! Only thing that could use some attention was one of the fitting rooms - felt a bit outdated, and the door barely shut, which wasn't ideal. Also, sometimes when I'm ready to check out, there's no one around, and I have to head over to another department, which can get a bit annoying. But aside from that, no major complaints. read more

When dress shopping, my mom tends to gravitate towards a specific style of formal attire. She's a Libra and by nature, she gets very indecisive about making any decisions therefore taking longer to shop than most for things. We needed a dress for her 50th golden anniversary which was fast approaching. The venue for their event was formal and evening wear was necessary. In the decades knowing my mom, she likes dresses with sleeves, a modest neckline and it's got to be a lace or textured dress with subtle amounts of bling. I did my best to work within her parameters and pulled a lot of dresses from the racks that were to her liking. It took over an hour of shopping and trying on 8 different dresses in store before she happily settled on "The One." This was a successful trip because the Old Orchard first floor dress shop has a large selection to choose from accommodating all body types/age groups. While all this was going on, they had seating where most significant others (Dad and Ben) sat on couches in the middle of the room. Thankfully, she walked away with a pretty dress in tow requiring no alterations! Regardless of department, Macy's tends to have promos throughout the year and the 30% off discount on ladies' dresses was pleasantly easy on the pocket. read more

I think Macy's is a good overall store, but it has some potential that is sort of lacking at this point. There are workers at like EVERY corner of the store, always asking if we need help with anything or finding anything. Like, if I wanted help on something I'll ask. They had a lot of stuff what I was looking for, especially in the clothing and perfumery department however the prices are insanely high. For example, a cologne that usually lists for 100 dollars is listed for 150 at Macy's. Anyway, they also charged me for the big size of a cologne when I wanted the small size. read more

Truly a sub par service. I went to the check out desk and crotchety old store associate, Yelena, scolded me and told me I was the wrong area. She basically shooed me away. You know how many people were waiting? None. She could have helped, she just didn't want to. Unlike the exceptional service at a place like Nordstrom (which I had just left), Macy's acts more like a low-end department store, funneling returns clear to the back of the store rather than making on easy on customers. I wasn't sure exactly where to go, and when I asked the much nicer associate behind the jewelry counter, she told me where to go but also offered to take the return. The inventory at Macy's has not really evolved. It feels old and very JC Penny. It out ok for simple things like the pair of black pants for office wear I was returning, but not much else. The service isn't even reliably good. Stick to Nordstrom. A shame they replaced a great Chicago business Marshall Fields with this. read more

I just had a really unpleasant experience shopping st this particular Macy's. I had an hour to browse between appointments. A very rude and overbearing saleswoman kept rushing me. I finally allowed her to check me out since she decided she didn't want me to browse. I did not have my Macy's card with me and asked if O could pay using the app. She said yes, but she didn't know how to use it and told me to use Apple pay. I told her I didn't have Apple pay so she asked for my ID. She couldn't pull up my card using my ID. I explained it was under my husband's ss and I am an authorized user. She insisted my card must have expired even though it is clear I just used it. She then told me I had to use another card, too bad, and I will not get star rewards. She made the whole shopping experience unpleasant. read more

I really had an amazing time at this Macy's and will be returning thanks to a young professional by the name of Will‼ He is really good and very professional. Thank God for awesome service‼ After shopping and going to a restaurant to eat, I decided to return back the same evening because there were a pair of very cool jeans on a mannequin and it was actually the only pair in my size. That young man got those jeans off that mannequin after finding out that was the only pair they had in my size. He was more than willing to accommodate me. A couple weeks ago, I went to this Macys while shopping at the mall to get some heels for a work event and had a coupon for Steve Madden. The boy at the register with curly hair kept checking his phone and half heartedly answered my questions. He also struggled to apply the coupon more than he should have which caused a long line. Eventually, I was able to purchase the heels after he asked a coworker for help. Very inexperienced and took out a chunk of my time. read more

Macy's Furniture Department at Old Orchard in Skokie IL is a hidden gem! They helped us over 20 years ago and we decided to peruse their selections for a son's new, first apartment. Working with the incredibly kind & patient (and resourceful!!) Jeet Singh; he helped us with nearly every room. We are involved in the vintage and more home decor & furnishings business so we were grateful to have his help AND their delivery team! We had just a few days to make it all work and they did it with no problems!! All were incredible and soon we'll share photos of the final home when photos are available. Unbelievable lack of attention and customer service. This location is really tired. I bought a pair of shorts which was to be a gift to someone. Imagine my surprise when the gift recipient came back to me and showed me that the SECURITY TAG was STILL ON THE SHORTS. So, no one checked to see if it was tagged? That's basic customer service! And how was I able to walk out of the store without any alarms going off? Hmmmm..... And no, no one ever answers the phone here. I like the Macy's in Old Orchard because it has a Back Stage section that has many good items that you don't find every where. It's like a mini department store in the the lower level of this Macy's I gave the three due to the rest of the stores layout ! I have see cleaner looking and better organised Macy's else where! I think the State Street Macy's at down town Chicago is beautiful in an architectural way! I've found nice sales there. Do not know what happened to their back stage? Bring it back please. read more

I was really impressed with this Macy's Old Orchard location. I found the entire store to be bright and airy. All departments were fully stocked and organized beautifully. The dress department was filled with fancy party dresses and the shoe department was everything sparkles. I'm not sure how many parties will be happening this winter but it's good to know we have gorgeous options. The infamous Frango Mints and chocolates were wrapped up in all sizes and flavors. Perfect for a simple gift or a stocking stuffer. Their holiday department was so festive and fun. Both the men's and women's outerwear departments were full of beautiful choices. All colors and fabrics were represented. I found a cute lightweight coat at a great price. All of the staff I encountered were very pleasant and helpful. I felt very welcome and was assisted with all of my needs. Great customer service really makes a difference. I usually shop at the Macy's on State Street. While the downtown location is my favorite, I will definite bring my business here when I am in the area. read more

10/28/20 - Of the Macy's still in existence this one @ Old Orchard usually seemed to be fairly busy. It has a very large selection of merchandise. I have been to this store before & it's usually pretty busy. I was actually surprised at how empty the store was today. I think there are a number of factors w/ the lack of people. 1). Amazon is killing the brick & mortar stores. 2). Covid is keeping people away. 3). Prices tend to be higher. 4). The lower priced box stores like TJ Max, Marshall's & Ross are much cheaper for similar type merchandise. While the selection isn't as good let's face it I'm not going to pay $70-$90 for a dress shirt when I can get a shirt for $15-$20 at one of these other stores. I fear that many of these stores have been suffering and losing business to Amazon. Covid has accelerated their demise read more

I'm a member of the Macy's rewards program so I always like stopping in to see how I can best utilize my extra 20% off. I was pleasantly surprised with the help from the two ladies working on the floor and was able not only acknowledge my presence but finally was able to complete my purchase.  These two ladies were rocking the floor and made sure everyone had what they needed.  My previously locations I visited had over 4 employees when I visited and I was never acknowledge and could not assist in my purchase. The cosmetics area is unsurpassed with regards to selection. There's so many perfume samples to try and there are plenty of employees working behind the counters Something I love even more is the tasting bar at this location! The first one I've experienced inside of Macy's, definitely worth the visit just for that. read more

Laughable excuse for a "manager" from the Returns Counter made what should have been a quick 2 min transaction and refund on a sweatshirt into a 10-15 minute completely avoidable hassle. She simply didn't want to refund my purchase: First she mistakenly said the price tag wasn't attached which somehow made it "unsellable", I produced said price tag along with receipt, simply reattach it, it's not surgery. Then she said that wasn't good enough, and insisted the price tag was "torn" and somehow unable to be reattached, again, stating this made the garment "unsellable". (I could walk to any clothing rack in this store and find multiple garments with a Return Label used for a price tag. They are everywhere! So nice try). Then in a final desperate reach, she pointed out wrinkles from where it was folded, stating such wrinkles made the garment "unsellable" and they couldn't take it back because they "would have to damage it out" LOL. Wrinkles!? On a sweatshirt? What a joke. Wrinkles from being folded properly in a shopping bag. The same way it's folded on a display table in the store! I would have been insulted were she not being so absurd and grasping any lame excuse her pre-rehearsed brain could list to justify not refunding me. What else you got? No refunds when it's raining out or something just as ludicrous?. She really was a joke. I glanced over to the customer next to me who was also returning clothing, pulling it out of the shipping box that it was delivered in and said, "uh oh, wrinkles!". I then asked for a real manager to help me as this "manager" was just petty and becoming contentious. While she stood there looking foolish not doing anything, waiting for her supervisor to show up who would have politely given me the refund themself, she decided to "make an exception" and finally issued the refund along with a belittling lecture on the return policy. So I got the refund I went in there for. Finally. But you should have made it so much easier. What was the point of your resistance? I would hate to think you hassle all the customers with a legitimate return the same way. Get over yourself. read more

Piles of jeans- not divided by style or size-just randomly eveywhere- you'd have to spend hours to find anything. Make it easy for customers to find what they want if you want a sale. I have to say the overall experience from shopping to delivery of the pieces that have arrived has been exceptional. Their white glove delivery service did a very good job. On time, set up everything, cleaned up after themselves, respectful of my house. Very positive stress free experience. I am very excited for the reminder of my furniture to arrive soon. read more

Macys ,Skokie IL store has gone downhil. The return dept. is awfu. you could be the only customer waiting and they will finish their conversation before even acknowledging you. I've attempted to return items, I print out the online order with the account number, and the item number, including a picture of the item, and I pull up my account on my phone, and I've gotten the same answer three different times from them," I can't find this item". Are you kidding me. You sell it! it's ridiculous, an answer because they don't know what they are doing. The clerk once withheld a $10 credit last year. Check your receipt!
