I have shopped at macys for over 10 years and here is my experience. First off, pricing is not cheap. This is partly due to the high end brand names they carry. Definitely beware some items are very pricy. Even on sale days if you want the good selection of clothing you are most likely going to pay full price, perhaps slightly discounted but not enough to make it a steal whatsoever. As far as their service goes, it varies. Every time I go to check out the cologne or jewelry, they hound me and insist I try cologne (which normally is new or a promotion so I understand). I just wish they made people feel a bit less pressured/ rushed to choose something. However, if you say something along the lines of I am just looking they will get the memo then you will be able to take your time. The lines can be long at times especially on the weekends However, if u are into luxury apparel and don't mind lines they are reasonably priced in comparison to Nordstrom or whatnot. My main issues with Macy's in general is their credit interest rate scam. Many times, I have paid my bill online (on time) only to get a statement for $1 or $2 because of late charges. Once, I paid a small late charge like that, only to receive another $1 or so charge because the original $1 was late. Go figure. It's like there's a hidden 'due date' that you don't know is there. It's not a great big deal, but is very irritating. I think their online credit system needs to be revamped. read more

I stopped at Macys to get a black sweater for a gift for my wife. As it was Christmas, the store was crowded and the staff very busy. I was pleasantly surprised by how easily I was able to make my purchase. The cashier even helped me apply for a Macy Credit Card so I could save money. This Macy's has some pretty harsh reviews, but I have always found it extremely pleasant with an amazing selection. I had to return some Black Friday purchases and they made the process smooth and seamless for me and took all of five minutes. Then after I went to do some family-wide shopping and I was able to find everything I wanted very easily. The store is laid out well and has three levels, so you definitely find a better selection here than most Macy's. This is my preferred location for sure! read more

I love Macy's and the Somerset location is awesome! There are so many brands to choose from. You get all of the newest and greatest looking fashions, and the cashiers are quick to offer you a coupon. There's also a cafe on the third level, complete with a sit down restaurant and Starbucks! I also like that the staff are really friendly and helpful. The shoe department is probably my favorite. They carry almost every brand you can think of and if they don't have your size, they'll gladly order it for you. read more

Macy's... esp this location. The employees here are so rude and have the worst attitudes.. Lazy and Incompetent are the words that come to mind. The place is also dark and dingy, the way the clothing is displayed looks like a garage sale gone bad. The only reason I even step foot in this store is because of Thomas Pink in the back. If corporate reads this, your company needs to clean up their act. You should be ashamed of yourselves that you ruined the Hudson's brand, even Marshalfields which was great. With the kind of people you hire to the way your store looks, it is on the same exact level as a sears. So I'm not sure if that's what you're going for? One star is too much. The Macy's at Somerset in Troy, MI is a literal PIG STY! I apologize to all pigs for using them in this reference but, it's the most convenient adjective to use without getting obscene. Poor (if any) service and stock in such disarray that it actually prevents one from "shopping." Macy's and the Mall should both be embarrassed and ashamed. I shall never return to this location. 95% of the workers in this store made me feel like a I am a complete juvenile. I found a few items on a clearance rack on the second floor, one of them did not have a clearance tag so I walked up to the first counter that had 2 younger girls and asked them to check the price before I tried it on and she rolled her eyes at me before scanning it. I tried on my items and picked out a different jumper that I really liked and lucky for me it was on sale! Mind you I didn't go in trying to find something that was completely cheap I just didn't want to spend an arm and I leg.. unless I was completely in love with it. The one I liked was Ralf Lauren so I took the items I didn't want back to the sale rack and wanted to see if the actual brand had it in any other colors. As I was walking I saw a manager talking to a worker complementing her great work from the night before and another manager who was near by smiled and said hi to me on my way. So I jump over by Ralf Lauren and I'm standing by a counter who had a sales associate that greeted and asked everyone except me that if they needed any help! I was kind of beside myself... At this point I'm feeling like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. I decided to try to go pay on the other side of the store, maybe there is hope of me finding someone who will be nice to me. I found a customer service desk and I stood there and waited, the woman behind the counter was working on something and had her back faced to me so I waited, she turned around to grab something and caught me out of the corner of her eye and did her thing... turned back around to continue working. A few mins go by and another woman gets in line right next to me, the associate turns around and asked her if she could help her! Lucky enough the woman standing next to me said; she was here first. The associate got an attitude and grabbed my item, looked at the tag and proceeded to tell me it wasn't on sale! At this point I'm super pissed but I keep my cool and said okay. She scanned both barcodes really quickly on the front and back of the tag just to make sure her statement was right and when it actually came up as the sale price I feel like she didn't say anything other than If my credit card was a chip or not... I paid for my item and I got the hell out of that place. Had I not been in a bind to get something fast I would have thrown my item in her face and told her to shove it. I just can't believe not only 1 counter of sales associates but 3 can be absolutely the rudest people to someone who doesn't look like they came out of a million dollar trust fund. It's absolutely the worst feeling knowing you are judged so badly in a place you are trying to spend money at. Especially when your managers reward you for a job well done and seem to treat their employees with respect and curiosity! I like this Macy's store. It's located in my favorite mall. I've never had any issues here. Some areas are unorganized and clothing seems to be scattered around the dressing area. I can't fault the staff for this since it's customers who leave them. More staffing could remedy this though. I've shopped here numerous times and will continue. read more

Not about this Macy's what about Macy's in general So with the COVID-19 prohibit Tatian from entering stores I tried to order online for some make up knowing that there is a Clinique bonus right now It says that the bonus will immediately be applied to your order but when you go to check out it does not confirm this Efforts to contact Macy's by the 800-number reveal a message indicating that no service agents are available due to COVID-19!! Just reinforces the dislike I've had for Macy's for about five or 20 years due to no acceptance of specific coupons due to the fact that they illegally took funds from my account without me knowing etc. Wow!! read more

Lines are a mile long, no one is behind the registers, no shoppers or employees wearing masks, no open registers open in women's, everyone running around looking for a register open. Why doesn't Macy's just come clean and admit that they are shutting down in house shopping? No business who wants to stay in business will do so like this....losing massive Amounts of customers by the day. Even if you order on line, and if you are a rewards customer, you still have to pay for returns for items. Not Nordstrom's, no one else, just Macy's. Unacceptable, Macy's! Zero social distancing going on. I had a man pass me on the escalator with no mask on. I waited over a half hour to check out on the third floor by the exit. I'm not joking, at least 25 customers waiting for one cashier. The only people social distancing were the ones that had a dot to stand on. They need to get a better system. I made a return yesterday and was treated with the worst customer service. I came in around 7pm to return a long wear eyeshadow in Paprika, Pink Noveau lip glass, and a magenta lip pencil. I found the eyeshadow and an almost identical lip glass at OFF 5th Saks in great lakes crossing. So I decided why not save the $15 extra bucks and return them. The gentlemen behind the counter asks why I was returning the items, I said I found them at OFF 5th. He tells me "I was there yesterday and didn't see these" he then mentions it again. I didn't know I had to give a blood sample to return unused, un opened makeup that I bought two days before. Let's not be smug sir. I don't live in an imaginary land where I have to lie about what I found at other stores. He was just rude and looks so upset to be at work. This is overall my least favorite MAC counter as it is, and he didn't leave a lasting impression. Moral of the story...MAC makeup is not great for your skin everyday, it's over priced and you can find it at department store outlets often. When I do enjoy a moment to treat myself or gain new tips. I go to the ladies at MAC Nordstrom, much nicer, and they play them game better to retain your business and get you to spend money. read more

Non-existent customer service is the hallmark of this Macy's. Lots of stock, yet the associates studiously avoid eye contact. I do believe they do not have a customer service model that they are actively teaching and I'd be surprised if they had a secret shopper program. I went to this Macy's to look for a winter coat and happened upon a 50% sale (this day only!) on winter coats. Two rooms were dedicated to women's coats-one side had puffer coats and the other cloth coats. Racks were crammed into the space with only a foot clearance and trying to find sizes or a specific designer was a challenge. I had been on their website and was looking for the Laundry brand because I saw a coat that would fit the bill. I wanted a coat that would come mid-leg with a hood and some waist definition. I could not find this particular coat and after spending 30 minutes looking decided to give up. I wasn't going to chase the many associates walking by. They know their jobs. Whether they want to do them is another matter! read more

I remember the time where Macy's was a place to go and not an upscale Target. My Grandma would take me to pick out dresses for the theater and I always enjoyed how special I felt as the sales ladies would Oooh and Awww over my ridiculous selections. That was obviously a different time, and I feel too young to be saying that. Now a days I expect less from Macy's and I think that they have survived over the years by grooming me, and others, to this point. However, despite the fact that my expectations have been stunted I haven't consumed enough of their koolaid to want to accept the kind of service (or lack of) you seemingly get at this location. Imagine a good percentage of staff playing football as a runner with the ball and I'm a member off the opposite team. Team-Macy's would surely make it to the playoffs with their impressive jukes and stiff-arms. No seriously, I had to chase a woman down to ask about a pair of boots and I'm not elaborating when I tell you she quickened her pace to get away from me. No one approached us in any department. No one. And I can confirm I was wearing deodorant, not sweatpants. The saving grace, or lets say Hail Mary (to stay on the football theme) was a girl in the accessories department who checked us out. She was very nice and polite, smiles from ear to ear. The quality of products has declined as well though there are still certain brands and products worth a purchase. This location, despite post Christmas scramble, was in decent shape minus women's clothing/accessories which was a mess. I felt the need to go out of my way to write about my lovely experience at Macy's today. I went in to get my boyfriend some new clothes for winter and I was pleased to meet Dawn in the men's department. From past experiences, being a young shopper I don't generate much attention towards me. Dawn on the other hand, pleasantly surprised me with how attentive and understanding she was when I wasn't sure about sizing and choices. She did her best to save me some extra money and I truly appreciated it. I hope people read this and understand that although Macy's somerset isn't the most organized and can use some added attention to detail, I cannot wait to share my experience with others! :) read more

We were there to replace some bedding and had lunch at the grill. The food was good, service was fine and not very expensive. We went to look for sheets and pillows and the service was top notch. We were helped by several woman in the department, telling us the difference in the sheets. They helped us find what we needed. The displays were very need, prices and descriptions properly marked. They even took our purchase out to our car. The prices were very completive. I have had issues with Macy's finding someone to assist or ask questions, but not today. They did a great job. read more

As I proceeded to the restroom on the second floor the Water fountain was caked with a white substance and dirty, the walls were marred, and flooring was in dire need of improvement. This used to be my families go-to. We've been shopping here since it was Jacobsons. This location keeps trying new ideas but are usually all a fail. Racks and racks of clearance merchandise in the women's department were an absolute eyesore. Very disappointed in the hap-hazard display of clothing. Great experience overall with the wife at Macy's. I tagged along for a bunch of returns that she had to make and the customer service was great. Rather disappointed with my visit earlier today. I stopped in to pick up a few things for the 4th. It was nearly impossible to find anyone to assist me when I needed direction. Once I finally found the section I was looking for, it was extremely difficult to find my size due to the lack of organization in the store. The deals aren't anything special neither. I've never been a huge fan of Macy's (or Marshall Fields/Hudson's/Whatever). The stores are usually disorganized, clothes everywhere, and staff is not very helpful. At Somerset, it would make sense that Macy's steps it up in order to compete with the other anchor stores and overall reputation at the "Collection". Every time I attempt to shop here, I end up frustrated. The racks and the fitting rooms are always a mess. Forget the shoe department. During our last visit, my husband wanted to go shopping for clothes & find a new cologne. I don't think I've ever purchased anything from their cologne/perfume counters & I never will again. Holy crap, they are aggressive! Before we even had a chance to look, I think the Sales Manager approached us. She signaled an associate to help us. We didn't like the few colognes that she sprayed, so the Manager sent over someone else. The 2nd sales associate had no sense of humor at all, and I felt like she wanted us to hurry up. Unfortunately, we were having a hard time choosing because they all smelled so feminine to him. We finally settled on one, but I couldn't pronounce it & she just glared at me. Sorry! The manager hovered around the entire time, which made it even more awkward. She rang it up for us, and tried to push a new perfume on me. I did get a free sample. She said she wants me to buy my perfume there from now on. Uh...NO. I typically just go to Macy's for the MAC counter, but I think I'll stick to Nordstroms. read more

I want to like Macy's. It's got such a good brand name - I mean how many other department stores have a history that includes inclusion in my favorite Christmas movie ever - "Miracle on 34th Street." But that was a movie... In reality, going to Macy's is more like going to Meijer (minus the great value). Long lines, understaffed, messy. On an individual level, the people who work there seem to be very nice. I went in to make a fairly straightforward return, had the receipt etc. There were two very nice customers in front of me buying kitchen electronics. Both ladies were super-patient and the sales clerk was doing her best to answer questions, find items, etc. But she was trying to do the job of approximately 3 people. After 15 minutes or so in line, it was my turn. She was quick, correct, etc. At that point there was no one behind me and someone (a manager, I am guessing) walked by to ask the sales clerk if she needed help. Well, no...she needed help 20 minutes ago. After the return, I need to make another purchase. This time I was behind some complicated checkout that involved bringing something out to a car. This time, the sales clerk left however, because she didn't know how to remove a security tag and had to go to another station. She just said, "I'll be right back." Well, she wasn't. I ended up putting back what I was going to buy after about 10 minutes, going to look at shoes and then deciding to go back and actually buy what I came for. She STILL wasn't back. I saw her with the ladies that were in front of me still figuring something out. I ended up going back to the original clerk who had a line 5 deep. She moved through them fairly quickly. Finally it was my turn and she apologized for the wait - and found me a coupon. At this point, a manager walked by again and said they were sending help. The sales clerk was too professional to roll her eyes. But I swear they twitched. Macy's - some really great staff. But the store itself seems to be managed horribly. read more

Bridal Salon is TERRiBLE!!!! Manager horrible, salesperson directed me to order dress a size smaller!! It didn't fit when it arrived on time, with a month and a half before the wedding . All the salesperson did was have me keep on coming back (3 times) to see if it would eventually fit which it obviously was too small! luckily 10 days before the wedding Bridal Alterations got involved and SAVED the day. DO NOT GO to this bridal salon and if you already made the mistake to do so get ELIZABETH involved right away so your Weddig day won't be ruined! She is amazing and deserves 10 stars. read more

I'm very satisfied on how my family was treated today on our first trip to Macy's. My dad came in hoping to find Levi's 517 jeans which was on the website, but apparently not in store. We spoke with Marlene in the Men's department, who was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. She helped us special order the jeans and get them shipped to home before Christmas. My parents and I were blown away with the overall politeness of the staff at this location, to the point I knew I had to write this review. Thank you Marlene and other staff at Macy's. I think Macy is a just fine overall, I am really just rating the perfume department, as a perfume collector. I've got to say somerset macy's is just about the worst perfume department ever I've ever been to. It's very disorganized and difficult for me to find what I need. Every time I go in there it's a bad or just blah experience. I came in once wanting to buy a Jessica Simpson Vintage Bloom gift set that said it came with a free tote bag on the website. When I asked for it with my purchase they had no idea about it and had to look it up. The manager told me that they didn't have the bag, I asked if I could come pick it up in a few days if they have it shipped to this store and they said no. I asked if I could have a different bag and all they would offer me was a see through mesh justin bieber makeup bag, you're kidding right? The jessica simpson tote was very nice. I left unhappy. Another time I was looking for a 2011 miss dior cherie and they had NO idea what I was talking about and claimed that only the name changed and nothing else. So while they were selling bottles of miss dior, they had a tester of miss dior cherie 2011 they claimed were "the same" when 2011 has oakmoss and strawberry while the current miss dior does not. I tried to let go that they didn't know, but when I asked to smell the fragrance they insisted they were out of strips and sprayed the inside of the cap and held it up to my nose. Just so unprofessional, and they didn't know what was going on. I feel bad for all the people who bought miss dior thinking it smelt like the tester. For a fabulous perfume shopping experience at somerset I recommend Nordstroms, Sephora, L'occitane, Neimans and Saks 5th Avenue. The Macy's at Oakland Mall is great too! Just anywhere but here seriously, just stay away! note: I added an extra star to the score for the awesome yummy ice cream store upstairs! Skip the perfume and go right for the ice cream! read more

This Macys is very big and very busy. As a result, things appeared a bit out of order on today's visit.
