I totally screwed up Microsoft Outlook on my laptop. I spoke with Max and he connected remotely to my computer and had it fixed in a few minutes. I originally figured that I would have to take it to their shop and be without email for a few days. They've always be fast and costs are reasonable. This place is the worst. They gave me a time estimate of "two to three days," and then said maybe "three to four days" since they're a little busy. Then he added that if they had to order parts it could be "up to a week." THEY HAD OUR COMPUTER FOR THREE WEEKS AND WE ALWAYS HAD TO CALL THEM FOR AN UPDATE.... But here's the main thing: they didn't even fix the problem that I wanted fixed and yet they charged us the same fee-- over $200 to not fix what I wanted to be fixed. The guy said it would be too involved to fix the power button, replacing the whole motherboard, etc. Then he showed me how you can power up the computer with a little pin sized hole on the side. Dude, why didn't you stop there and let us know that the problem couldn't be fixed and that there was a work around for powering up the computer? You kept the computer for three weeks, didn't fix what we wanted fixed, never called us with updates, and then you charged us the same fee that you charge people when you fix the problem. This review pertains to the Middleton location. I really wish my experience could have been better. I had gotten my laptop looked at by the technicians and given a price estimate of $120 for replacing a mother board that was cracked. The crack was preventing the laptop from accepting a charge and was making it difficult to use. At first MadCity suggested we try soldering the motherboard to fix the problem and then replace it if that didn't work. They ended up telling me they had to replace the entire motherboard for the $120 price they quoted earlier. Soon after the work order on the laptop was completed I noticed it would sometimes stop charging. I called them to ask what could be done and their representative told me that there was nothing they could do and would charge me an additional $60 just to look at it again. I felt like there should have been more of a service guarantee so they have the ability to stand by the work they perform. I would not suggest utilizing this service for a hardware issue or repair. They seem to have a good understanding of software and bios updating so if you have problems with a virus/slow startup this place might be able to help you. read more

I took my laptop to MCT in August to clean up viruses. I was told it would be a week before I would get my laptop back. It took them 3 weeks. J who dealt with me was professional and supportive but did not get the job done. It was almost done in 2 weeks but when they were to re-install Microsoft Office, I could not prove/find my documentation. OK. I bought a new Office through MCT and my credit card was charged immediately. However, I was told they could not install it until a "boss" gave his OK. Huh? That took several days for someone just to say OK even though my credit card had been billed for it. When everything was done my laptop worked fine. At no time did I get a phone call from MCT. Every communication was made by me. I brought the laptop back to MCT on Monday morning and explained the problem. I asked if I was covered by the warranty of the previous repair. I was told it was a 30 day warranty but due t the similar nature of the problem, they would find out if I had any recourse under the warranty. We agreed they would call me to let me know. No call on Monday eve, no call on Tuesday or Wednesday. I stopped in yesterday Thursday and was told the laptop was almost done. No call Thursday eve, no call today. I called this afternoon and they said it was done and they would call me when to pick it up. They did call. I picked up my laptop and was billed $125.00 for the service. The agreement was that they would tell me if I had coverage under the previous work. I received no phone call so I believed they were covering it, since the problem was the same as the one they repaired and they had left McAfee active in the laptop.They were adamant that I was responsible for paying despite the fact that I had not given them the Ok to do the work. A person who was a supervisor interceded and showed me my signature on the work order. I agreed that I had signed but reminded him of the agreement that no work would be done until I knew if I was covered by their warranty. He again pointed to my signature. I made a huge dumb mistake of thinking that MCT was an ethical business. It is not right that they charged me twice for the same work regardless if my 30 days had expired and it is definitely not right that they did the work when it had been made clear that I wanted to first know before billed work would be done. I could have brought my laptop to one of the "big guys"but I believe in spending my money locally. They are legally correct that I had signed the contract but their ethics and moralsare lacking. I still believe in doing business locally but NEVER AGAIN WITH MAD CITY TECHS. It is not right that they charged me twice for the same work regardless if my 30 days had expired and it is definitely not right that they did the work when it had been made clear that I wanted to first know before billed work would be done. We also subscribe to their managed care/virus protection service and are happy with that. We purchase 20-hour blocks of tech time at a very reasonable rate and have purchased our last 3 computers through them. We had an inexpensive lap top repaired at Mad City Tech in Middleton. The tech did not screw the hard drive in and so it soon started working intermittently. The charge was probably close to what the original computer cost, but we needed what was on the original hard drive and they did get that off. A couple of months after getting it back, it started acting up again. When my husband called they said it sounded like the hard drive was going bad (again). We went in and the tech said someone had loosened the hard drive. We said we had not been in since they had seen it. He said the other tech had been fired, probably for that kind of thing. None the less, he tightened the hard drive and changed a setting on the computer charging us $126. Really, when you caused the main problem?????? I told the tech I did not think that was fair. He didn't seem to care. Terrible, never visiting them again despite their convenience in our neighborhood! Maybe the other location is better but the Middleton Hills location needs more oversight. Mad City Techs charged me $126.60 for a simple repair (tightening some screws) that other places have charged me less than $50 for. They justified this by running unneeded and unasked-for services on my hard drive. Plus, I dropped the computer off on Thursday and didn't get it back until Tuesday the next week.
