First impression upon arriving was that it was warm in there. Too warm. Also the music was too loud to have a conversation. The music was odd too. It was 50's tunes. Not entertaining while eating salad. Maybe an ice cream place or old fashioned hot dogs and root beer floats but salad? This led us to getting our order to go. I went with the make your own salad and soup combo. The sweet potato soup was very good. A little small on the portion size but it was good. Salad was a lot of lettuce and four toppings. I added steak. Steak was terriyaki steak. That should have been listed as such. It was grosse. Cheap cut of meat marinated in soy sauce. Awful. The bowl had a lot of lettuce in it. The portion sizes of the toppings were measly. Overall not overly impressed. Daily Juice down on 620 has a much better salad bar and they have outdoor seating. Just your typical salad place- not bad, not good, just salad. Came in on a Thursday night to an empty restaurant. The crowd starting picking up a little later, ~7:30PM, although it still wasn't too crowded. The inside of the restaurant is pretty clean and everything seems to be fairly well organized. It's set-up like every other "build your own" concept with the line starting straight at the door and leading up to the food. They have quite a few options, from pasta, to wraps, to paninis, and of course salads. If you come here I'd recommend sticking with the salads; my sister got a panini and it was incredibly flavorless and all around unimpressive. I got the pre-made Don Quixote salad primarily because building my own seemed to be a bit of a rip off considering I could only add 4 toppings without extra charge. My salad was alright, although I thought the dressing tasted mostly like fancy mayo. The nice thing, or not so much depending on your point of view, was that this salad was HUGE. I got a regular and felt stuffed about halfway through. I'm not quite sure how much more a large is, but I'm assuming you could split it with someone else and save money. Service wise, there's not much to say. The salad was made pretty quickly and the people working there seemed to be friendly enough. For starters, the Yelp location on here is wrong. I ordered online through yelp and then mapped through yelp and ended up at a house in a residential neighborhood. I tried calling MAD Greens to find out which location I exactly ordered at but they don't take phone calls during "peak" hours (11-3). I luckily was able to find the location on my own since I had already paid for the food. I just moved to Austin so maybe this was more difficult for me than most. The food however is really good. I tried the Pomona and chicken poblano soup for $12.94. It was absolutely delicious. The salad itself is the perfect portion for lunch. The soup with it was gluttonous. I like this place and would maybe frequent here. It just really rubbed me the wrong way that I couldn't call the restaurant. read more

Had seen this location going up, and am so glad its finally opened. First, their website has an allergy-friendly menu tool that lists every ingredient. I spent a few minutes on the tool inputting my unique set of food allergies before heading in. It was wonderful knowing exactly what I could order off the menu without interrogating the employees. This is a very fresh salad bar, where each ingredient is portioned, added, mixed, and then served for you. I got the Bonnie Parker - roasted chicken, mixed greens, smokey chedder, and craisins . I subbed in the blue cheese dressing, and it turned out to be the perfect mix. They are also extremely careful about cross-contamination. My wife got the Ty Cobb salad, which includes fresh-scooped avocados and generous bacon. All the veggies were absolutely fresh, even though we were popping in 30 minutes before closing. The only drawback is the "premium" ingredients - something one of us added was a premium add-in and was supposed to cost an additional 75 cents. It really isn't worth re-ringing or having a manager intervention (acting as if we weren't standing there - and that other customers were waiting) at the cash register over. Priorities, folks. Don't spoil a great experience this way. I stick with the 5 stars because this is the perfect restaurant for someone like me with multiple severe food allergies. Food is great and well priced for the quality. But this location has a weird energy about it. I've been there five times in the last month, and tonight was the weirdest yet. One of the gals behind the counter wasn't having a great day. Then a Karen got snippy with with the gal bc of her perceived bad attitude. But the Karen was outright rude. The gal behind the counter kept her composure and tolerated the snippy Karen. But the whole vibe there has just been off. Not remotely friendly or welcoming. We order custom salads with more than ingredients than what is allowed (interpretation, each additional topping/ingredient cost you .75 each). The order was ready when it was stated from the website. The issue is when we got home and opened our food. We dumped the contents of the TOGO container in a separate bowl to eat. As we were eating our food we noticed that not ALL of the items that we ordered online were in the salad!! No items. Not just a scant amount of items but NONE! Being this is a custom salad and at .75 cents each they should pay more attention to making the salad!! We will NEVER order through the online system AGAIN. Positives: good options for salads. It's also nice that you can build your own. Good plastic to-go salad bowls. Good location off of 620. Negatives: workers never seem happy. You ever go into a Juiceland and felt how happy the workers are there? Not at this particular Mad Greens. The workers don't seem happy to be at work. I always feel bad placing an order, like I pulled them away from something important...every time. But the salad combos are so good so I overlook their grumpiness. This place is new and only been here a few months. Experience - I went in around 3pm on a Saturday afternoon. The store was kinda steady with people coming and going. Went to the register and greeted by a young woman who answered some of my questions. Picked up my food and took a seat. Restaurant was pretty clean and organized. Ate my food, cleaned my spot and off I went. Ambience - This is another modern chic design restaurant. Lots of window lighting and some abstract lighting hanging from the roof. Store was clean, behind the line was organized, and staff well dressed. Pretty typical vibe. Menu - they have a lot of pre-designed salad bowls which come in 2 sizes, and a few wraps / paninis, and some extra sides like hummus. They also have a build your salad option but is kinda of limited to only 4 ingredients aside from the sauce, protein and salad base. All of their items have a caloric count by them and most of the sauces are gluten free. They too also have a Maine Root beverage dispenser instead of a coke or Pepsi dispenser. Yay! Woot! Woot! Food - I ordered the Siam I AM salad, which had kale, spinach, green onions, peanuts, edamame, carrots, quinoa, chicken and a ginger soy dressing. I also ordered the Annie Oakley panini which was chicken, avocado, bacon and cheese. I really enjoyed the salad. It was an Asian themed salad and it was a huge portion. The regular size is more than enough for someone. The portion sizes of all the ingredients was a great ratio, I actually ran out of salad base lol. The salad I got was simple and delicious. The panini I got was ok. It was a little dry, but they serve it with a side of ranch, but the chicken waa cut so fine that when I sipped it, it all fell out. Blasted chicken lol. Overall I would stick with the salad, which I really enjoyed. It is a very huge bowl. Service - pretty standard for a quick service place. Employees were nice and attentive. While the lady was making my salad in front of me she was asking to make sure everything in it was ok or if I wanted any substitutes. I generally afford new places like the plague because normally it is a shit show of employees running around with their heads cut off or it is all inexperienced employees. No fault to MAD Greens, as that happens at all new places. OVERALL- so I got a salad, panini and a beverage for $21. That's actually pretty good. I feel like I got a great value. I would definitely stick to the salads only thou. If you like good salads, you should give them a try. Side Rant - so a lot of "bad" reviews for this place are based on 2 things. Overpriced and the build your own sucks. First off, the price is very comparable to other salad joints, mine was $9 that had a protein in it. So I don't know why everyone is crying about the price. It isn't that bad. The second is that the build your own you can only get 4 addings. Which then everyone is like "Salata you get as many as you want and it's better" Yes, Salata you get all you want piled in a bowl. Don't get me wrong I love Salata. But MAD Greens is about "eat better" the pre designed salads are about flavor profile and theme. About what ingredients compliments each other. They have a better flavor profile than Salata. At Salata is is a random hodgepodge of whatever you want. Not that that is bad but unless you are a salad expert you are just getting a big bowl of stuff with sauce tossed in it and each bite is different. But if you try to each healthy but throw every item into the salad with extra croutons and double chipotle ranch....is it really that healthy? It's all about caloric intake. So yeah 4 ingredients may sound low but if they compliment each other it will still be a great salad. But this is American culture, the more the better. MAD Greens is more of a health conscious restaurant. They give you the real ability to eat better. So to sum up, the whining about price is ridiculous and stupid. And the whining over only 4 add ins, I get it and I understand, but sometimes less is best. You can then taste everything. Like tacos, most tacos only have a few ingredients but they are tasty AF. Plus their salads have profiles. I don't know, I think people just don't understand the concept well enough to appreciate what they are doing. I still think that if you want a good salad you should give it a try. Nothing wrong with Salata thou, I love that place too. But MAD Greens is actually dedicated to their philosophy of "eat better". Great tasting and fresh ingredients used on your order. I had the Don Quixote salad with shrimp and their MAD spice on the avocado. I did like that they slice the avocados in halves and don't take them out of the skin. Upon ordering, they scope out the avocados. They can mix up their ingredients and dressing upon requests. Came in this evening just minutes before closing time (without even realizing it) or else I wouldn't have made it be a hassle on the workers. We were greeted friendly by Kyle as he started taking our order and quickly fixin our salads. He was very helpful explaining how everything worked and went over the toppings he was great about letting us know which toppings moving forward down the line were at an extra charge also. We had forgotten to order my daughters kids box and right as he finished off our salads he was quick to get started on hers as well with a smile on his face. Hunter was also very polite and helped us check out and wrap things up, when he asked if we would like a bag to carry everything I was almost about to say no we would eat here when I then realized oh no is it y'all's closing time? He politely said yes they close at 8:30 and I instantly felt bad for being those people who come in so last minute haha but Kyle and Hunter laughed and told us it was perfectly ok and they were happy to serve us. I made sure to get their names because of what excellent customer service we received from them. I thought it was only me, but after reading other reviews I am glad to know it isn't something personal.. the staff is not courteous at all. They don't greet you, smile, or make you feel invited at all. Not sure what it is.. have been there twice and both times didn't feel welcomed at all. I went to Mad Greens previously and was very impressed. As a vegan I sometimes find it hard to find places to eat, especially here in the beef state. This past Saturday I went there at around 2pm and I was very dissappointed. I got a wrap with tofu and it was ok. But upon asking the worker if I could add onions, he said (rudely), "that will be extra!"Then left me to go and tell the cashier to add on for onions. I asked if the dressing was vegan and he was clearly annoyed. He turned around and yelled, is this vegan? I asked to add on the pita and hummus, and he said this isnt vegan! I paid and left and my friend says, "I would of thrown those pitas at him!" I am assuming he had a bad day or just doesnt like his life. Either way you are in a customer service position. That night I suffered stomach cramps. So I am done and will never eat there again. Yeah worker! read more
