I had gone to Mad Hatter in the past under the old management and it wasn't good. I decided to bring my vehicle here one more time under the new management and I think they're worse. The customer service skills of the owner and the manager are greatly lacking. My husband and I dropped my vehicle off on a Tuesday afternoon before they closed. We already knew what needed to be repaired. We gave them all of the pertinent details. Wednesday morning, I receive a call from Heidi, the manager, telling me that my vehicle will be ready later on that day and gave me a quote. Wednesday afternoon rolls around and now my vehicle will not be ready until Friday and Heidi informs me that it will now cost about $150 more than originally quoted. Needless to say, this has now become an inconvenience. When asked what they can do for us to compensate for time lost with the vehicle, we were told by the owner, Josef (who would not give us his last name), that we can get a tow truck and tow it somewhere else. At this point not only are we inconvenienced but we're also getting angry. Josef also told us that they only purchase parts from one place and that they will not order anything online. (We had done the research and had found the part online.) We told them to just fix the vehicle. A few moments later Josef calls back stating that he will knock off $100 from our final bill. We said thank you and please proceed with the repairs. Now it's Thursday and to our surprise we receive a call from Heidi stating that the vehicle is ready for pickup, and that Josef would like to speak to us. The first thing Josef says when he gets on the phone is "Are you happy now?"!! My husband said yes and bit his tongue. When we went to pick it up, the first thing Heidi said to me was how rude my husband had been on the phone! Now it was my turn to bite my tongue. I have worked in customer service for most of my life and I have never experienced such rudeness on the part of multiple staff members let alone an owner. Do not take your car here. While they were working on my car, Bobby was vaping in the car. This upsets me as I have asthma and don't allow smoking in my car. On top of this, when I asked him why he was vaping he to my face lied and said he wasn't. Totally dishonesty here. They also kept pushing back when it would be ready, and pushed it back 5 times. I don't mind allowing a mechanic to take days to fix an issue but be honest that it will take days and not giving multiple promises. The mechanics were so nice, it seems like Bobby is the root cause of the issues we experienced. read more

Quality work at a reasonable price ! I'm so thankful I took the time to drive to Mad Hatter Auto Repair. I first went to Firestone across the street and they offered to charge me $5000 in total for many different things. One being the heater core for $2500. But, when the mechanics at Mad Hatter checked my car, they told me my heater core was fine and I decided to have Mad Hatter repair my car. I am more than thankful for finding them. I went in at 10am this morning for an emissions test and paid my $20 and handed over my keys. I was then informed that the state was doing an update on the emissions computer that should only take 10 minutes. I waited 40 minutes until they handed back my money and keys and said to try back later that day. I proceeded to call another emissions testing place and was told there was no update happening and when I arrived I was in and out in less than 15 minutes. read more

I always had my car service at another garage and I always like that service but they were very expensive. The Honda dealership in Enfield actually referred me to mad hatter several years ago. I have been going there ever since. I have an older car and don't want to spend a lot of money on it, but I want to keep it running good. They take good care of me at mad hatter. I live in MA and was down in Enfield shopping. I had car troubles and had no clue what to do. They sent a tow out for me and got me to their shop. They took my car in and were pretty much sure it was the battery, so they switched it for me even going past their open hours for the night. Even though I may have another issue with my car, these people went above to take care of me, and I was able to get home tonight. They even helped take the costs down too, which was generous. The worst service I have ever recieved. I had a loud sound and knew my car needed a wheel bearing by the hard tug to the right. However, after having my car for almost 10 hours, they first couldn't duplicate a very loud ticking and squeaking that I could hear from inside the building as it was being driven. Upon bringing my car to another shop and calling back to mad hatter about my wheel lock location, I learned they never even took my tire off to look at my car. Don't worry, they still charged me labor and told me "there was nothing mechanically wrong with my car." Upon going to another shop, I learned in 10 minutes that my car wasn't road safe due to needing a wheel bearing and was told I couldn't leave in my car. Repairs being done elsewhere. I had a terrible experience at Mad Hatter. Briefly, this was my experience: 1.) I was quoted over the phone. I told the gentleman to write down my quote and go forward with the work. When I picked up my car the quote was nowhere to be found and they quoted me well above the original quote. 2.) The work that was done was shotty at best. My coolant reservoir was not secured correctly and I had to get it repaired soon after getting work done. 3.) customer service is not a top priority With so many auto shops to choose from I highly recommend going elsewhere. read more

I was quoted a car starter and power door locks installation price. They held my car for three days each day saying they got the wrong parts in , on last day they almost doubled their price to complete the job they had quoted. I pulled my car out of there and ran. Went there's for an emissions test and had a vehicle rightly fail a few weeks prior. After coming back, repairs completed, employee Gary behind the counter refused to do free retest on vehicle stating the repair shop should know better and I needed to have a form filled out for him to retest the vehicle. Even after explaining the proper process Gary refused to retest the vehicle and stated I would probably get pulled over for driving illegally, despite the 60 day period being nowhere close to over. Overall awful service, awful attitude, and a poorly knowledge associate. Will also be reporting this location to the state DMV. read more

Every time I have come to this place for service it is excellent. They are very quick yet thorough and also caring and friendly. My experience with them today went even above that when they researched for me an extended warranty I should have had for the problem they fixed. They could have just taken my money and went about their day like a lot of places would have. But instead they went the extra mile to see if I could be reimbursed for my repair. I took my car to Mad Hatter after my rear calipers seized up. They were busy, but after explaining that I lived 40 miles away and really needed the car that night to get home, they took car of it almost immediately. The staff is kind, courteous, and did a good job explaining everything to me. They did not overcharge me and I found their prices very reasonable. I very much recommend them. read more

I brought my car in for a backup camera installation, and will never use these guys again. First off I got the car back smelling like cigarette smoke, meaning they were actively smoking in my car, automatic 1 star. When I got the vehicle back my battery was dead and they said "oh must have left the lights and doors open too long." to me that is super unprofessional to get the car back to the customer with a dead battery, but wait! there's more! the work they did for the backup camera left much to be desired. They removed my old mirror and neglected to hide leftover wiring, so there was and still is an exposed 2 pin connector hanging down from the ceiling of the car, but also I checked the work they did in the trunk and they cut open all my brake light lines and used electrical tape (not heat shroud) to cover only the line they used. The last straw was the fact that the trunk also would not open with the button from the front seat and keys, upon inspection they had completely destroyed my trunk latch, the only way to get it open is a rope through the pass through. Now I'm out $600 AND I have to go somewhere else to get my car repaired because these guys are incompetent and claim they didn't do this. Bring your car anywhere else, it may cost more, but they won't cause any damage to it. read more
