So I looked on Yelp to find a place in the area that had good reviews. Pleasant Street Auto only had two reviews, but they also took the time to post their own description. And, I liked the range of photos (I'll admit that I was a bit charmed by the photo of someone spray-painting a dinosaur) and the notion that there would be a place to sit and do work, comfortably, not literally sitting outside on a curb as I've had to do on occasion in the past. I was not a great customer up front, I'll admit. I completely forgot our first appointment, and then I became lost on my way for the remedial appointment. Throughout, the staff was patient and professional with me. I can't say a word about the garage/work area because I never saw it, which felt a little odd, but I could certainly get used to it! I don't have the slightest idea what the machines and tools are for, anyway, and so I don't know that seeing and hearing mechanics work really enhances my experience. Instead, I left my car and keys and waited inside. The front desk manages repair work, body work, and also Hertz rentals. When I made my oil change appointment, I was a little worried that I might have a serious issue discovered, and I might therefore need to rent a car. If this had been necessary, I could have managed it all at one location. Convenient! The oil change didn't seem to take all that long. I should have timed it, but I didn't. I think the total wait - even though I was late for my appointment, was well under an hour. During that time, I tried to take advantage of the homey waiting area with a t.v. (though the cable was stutteringly-intermittent), WIFI that didn't seem to work at all, and computers with internet service that required someone to come in and fix it for it to work at all. The computers were kind of old, dodgy, and dirty, but I was able to do some work, which was great. For families, there are toys and books (for kids and adults) and an area for children to hang out and play. I can only imagine that, since the space is open and adjacent to the desk area, it's not much fun for staff when the space gets "active," but it's very nice an accommodating. Overall, this is a huge leap over sitting on a solitary chair in a drafty space next to a noisy garage, or as said, literally sitting on a curb because there's no indoor seating at all. The best bit was that Lee, I believe a member of the family who runs this business, came out to speak with me personally while they were finishing up with the car. He spoke with me in language that I could understand, but not with condescension. There were a number of potential issues with the car, and he prioritized them for me, but he didn't make me feel pressured in any way. I feel like Yelp helped me to find a great fit for a new auto shop, and it's a great relief. I'd highly recommend this establishment to anyone who wants to feel confident about a family-run business that is professional, caring, and extremely well-rounded in terms of services available at a single location. With comfort, too! Great, great experience overall.

Went to this location about 5 years ago. All they did was throw parts at my car. They never…read moreactually diagnosed the issue. My check engine light came on and my motor began to act up when I shifted into lower gears. My mother always brought her vehicles here for inspections and no one in my family likes Jacksons auto body in town. I brought it in and they told me they were going to change out the coils in my Pistons and change the wires on the spark plugs (which they had already done when I brought my car in for a tune up months prior and they tried to charge me for). So I picked up my car and drove home and when I shut the car off all of the oil in the engine drained into my driveway because their mechanic crimped the valve cover and rather than fixing it he let me drive home and hope nothing would happen. So had the car towed back because I wasn't going to put oil back in my car to have it leak on the way there. They fixed the issue they created and offered me a free oil change certificate (like I was going to come back) and I brought my car to an authorized dealer of my vehicle. I would not recommend this location to anyone.

I arrived at 10:45 a.m. this morning for a state inspection at Brad's, which lists its hours as…read moreopen until noon on both its website and on the service door entrance. There was no sign on the door or at the counter about closing early or stopping inspections. I waited about 15 minutes before being told by the inspector that he wasn't doing any more inspections for the day because he was tired after being there since 8 a.m. He said he told the customer before me that he would be his last inspection -- but another customer wouldn't be responsible for telling me that, and he did not. If there's a cutoff time for inspections, it really needs to be clearly posted so people don't waste their time showing up well before closing and being turned away. Very poor customer service. I do wonder whether the owner or manager is aware of this decision to stop inspections early and the impact it has on customers.

Last year, they failed my car because of old windshield wipers. I gave them another chance this year because they are close to my home, but they failed me again because of a loose front plate. I had it screwed back in and returned, but they still said it was not drilled properly. I then went to another inspection shop with the car in the exact same condition, and it passed without any issue. This place wasted my time and money. It feels like they are focused on finding small reasons to fail inspections and push minor repair fees. I will not be going back, and I'll be telling my family and friends to avoid this shop.

If you haven't gone to ARC before and you need to know these guys are old school and will do whatever they can to patch your car together on a budget while educating customers on what you need to do for maintenance to make it last as long as possible. I'm about to put a ding in that score. I went here over my usual guy because I'm a layman and thought maybe brakes required a special skillset. I wanted to get it done right. I brought it in and was told the brake pads- or whatever- are worn down and are pretty much just metal on metal, in the front wheels. The rear brakes aren't great but I could put those off for now. I was told it would cost $550, and that that would mostly be in parts. I grimaced and took the hit. A week later, my brakes aren't working so well. Something about air in the line, everyone tells me, because the pedal depresses almost entirely to the floor before I get any braking traction. I call the shop and describe it. The guy tells me that doesn't sound like air in the line at all, it sounds like the... something, I forget, and it'll need replacing and lots of work. At this point I start to see what's going on here. I say "I'll think about it" and hang up. I brought the car to my usual guy. He says Arc Garage did a crap job and didn't reconnect the hoses correctly and sprayed (something) on the (something), which I was made to believe was a bad move. He asked what they charged and I told him, and he said "Oh, you got ripped off so bad. Oh wow. That was a $200 job." He then told me the fix he'd just done was $50 and to come and get it. I won't be making this mistake again. Also, what the hell Yelp, please don't lead me astray like that.

My car was brought in right away and after an hour and 45 minutes I asked if it was going to be much longer. This is when I was informed that they did not have the correct filter. I ask how long it was going to take to have it delivered and they said it was only a few minutes longer. There was no apology for their oversight on not confirming that they had the correct parts needed and no discount for my inconvenience for having to wait. I was a 1st time customer. The service for a full synthetic oil change and tire rotation including tax was 105.97. I chose to support a local shop instead of a chain with thoughts that I would be supporting a small business and getting customer service that generally goes along with a privately owned company that wants to maintains a great reputation.
