Love coming here. The guys are honest, upfront, and even let you decide and call back with an answer. I needed a brake job, alignments, and my check engine light was on. They could've said anything was wrong with the car im a girl and said it's a quick cheap fix and ordered the part and my car was fixed that day. Prices were much cheaper than anyone else I've gone. I spent so much money at other places for brakes and this one by far was the least expensive. I also could've been sold for tires too but the guys told me I had more time and to come back when the mileage hits this number or oil change is needed bc it's around the same and they will do it then. I had the oddest experience with Laurel. I called to get an estimate for an oil change, provided the year, make and model. Clearly, the guy who answered was busy, so I can have a little grace, but in response to my request, he advised that they don't provide estimates. I found this odd since I only wanted an oil change (for a 2025 car with less than 6k miles) and I didn't even ask for a precise amount, just an approximation. I asked what information I could provide that would allow him to provide a cost estimate, I was then told again that no estimate would be provided, that the shop was busy for the next couple of weeks and if I wanted service, I should just come down there and see what could be done. The guy wasn't exactly rude, but he definitely didn't care to provide any help, and made it clear my business wasn't needed. I have had my cars serviced here for 10 years. I had a white knuckle driving experience driving from West Hartford. First battery warning then loss of power, steering, all lights lit up ! Limped into Laurel and they said that they would try to look at it and gave me a ride home ! An hour later they told me the issues and said they could have done by end of the day ! It was 3 when I p got there. Fixed by 5 again amazing service. I started going here just for emissions but then I like their rates. I recently had my brakes done here and not long afterwards I noticed there was a little pulsating on heavy braking. I waited until my next oil service for them to look at it. Turns out I had defective parts. They warranted all the parts and labor. Really honest and friendly about it. I can tell you from other experiences this is not common. read more

Great repair shop! In my family, we have 7 vehicles including a 1969 Z28 Camaro, a 1999 GMC Sierra, a 2010 Cadillac CTS and a 2014 Subaru Legacy. Laurel has done small jobs ranging from light bulb changes to huge jobs like replacing the frame on the Sierra. I've never had a problem there but I usually call first and make an appointment. I've seen a few complaints but some of those are people that arrive with problems 15 minutes before closing. I don't believe that's a great idea at anyone's workplace. They also repair diesel vehicles. When the oil/water separator on my diesel truck failed, they diagnosed and replaced it quickly. They have always been extremely professional on the work they've done for me and they've always given me a quote before doing the work. When one of my vehicles breaks down, I don't have any hesitation about bringing it to Laurel. read more

Service is outstanding, and the mechanics are extremely knowledgeable of what is needed to either fix or repair your car, and will not give you the high pitch fast talking salesman, slur that your car needs some additional service. I took my car in for an oil change and they found problems with the tires and brakes. I am a 20 year old woman and as soon as I walked in to get the report I was condescended and talked down to. They had called me to explain the extensive work I would need but I told them to not do anything until I got there. The first man I talked to only gave me the price for the oil change and when I asked for the rest of the issues they called me about, he gave me a lot of attitude about having to go print it out in the back. As he walked away he (not so quietly) told his coworker who was the one to work on my car "You can deal with this, I don't have the patience for this b!tch." We brought our son's used diesel pickup truck (bought in NH, registered in CT) to Laurel as it was not passing its emissions inspection. The Laurel diesel mechanic was able to make the appropriate adjustments to the engine so that it passed the more rigorous CT emissions test. Laurel was able to take the truck in quickly, made the necessary adjustments, while also repairing the ignition key assembly (a problem that presented itself the morning of drop-off). The truck had over 200K miles on it, while the key issue is a frequent point of failure in GM pick-ups. They were prompt, reasonably priced, and effective. read more

I brought my vehicle in recently for emissions testing. I had been to Laurel once or twice in the past for the same reason and had no complaints. This time the experience was a little different. I entered the small waiting room with my mask on (note to Laurel Automotive: We are in a global pandemic) and waited for someone to greet me. As I was waiting, laying my keys and items on the desk to attract attention, another masked patron came in behind me and socially distanced herself. When the proprietor came out to the desk, I indicated I needed an emissions test, paid the $20 cash and handed over my keys. I then asked if there was an outdoor area where I could wait since I was masked and the waiting room was a bit warm. He said I could wait outside. What struck me upon leaving was that he was not wearing a mask. There was also no visible signage either inside or on the entrance about masks or social distancing, and no hand sanitizer in sight. After I got outside I walked past the open garage where the cars were being worked on, only to hear a huge coughing fit from inside. I spent some time on the curb with my back to the blazing sun, and finally when the woman who came in after me had her car ready, I asked the mechanic as he walked away if mine was, too (since someone had driven it outside and left it there). He remarked casually that he called for me in the waiting room (where there were no people) and then gave up. He was also not wearing a mask. As the fellow patron was getting ready to leave, I asked her if she was also bothered that nobody at the business was wearing a mask. She said she was, very much so, and offered me some Lysol wipes for my car. I can put aside the no-nonsense demeanor of the front-desk gentleman and even the questionable judgment of the mechanic who calls out to an empty waiting room but doesn't check outside. What I can't look past is the blatant disregard for the requirement that all businesses provide their employees with masks during a global pandemic. On a hot, uncomfortable day I did my part, as did the other customer. I am appalled that this is the way Laurel chooses to run their business during such a time. This is the last $20 they will get from me. My health is not worth their ignorance or stubbornness in the face of facts. read more

This is the best place ever! They totally fixed every little problem on my 03' Chevy Tracker (and there were a lot!) for very cheap! They are honest and quick and try to work with you. Customer service was excellent! Not only did they fix up my dying, rusty baby but it allowed me to drive it all the way from CT to California:) I am happy! I have been taking our cars there for years for emissions testing, so when I needed to have two tires changed, I figured why not have them do it while I'm there for emissions. Big mistake. I had an appointment for 10:00 and was there a few minutes early. When it got near 11:00, I asked when my car was going to be done, and was told it would be another 15 minutes(!). I then asked if they had even started it and was told "oh yes, he's working on it now". I don't believe it; hadn't heard the impact wrench up until that point. An hour and twenty minutes to change two tires... and after making an appointment. Horrible waste of my time. That was a job that should have taken about 20 minutes. I did not have a good experience here . Waited a long time for a simple VIN verification and complained about the wait and was not treated nicely. Just a FYI to this business. If the wait is going to be longer than 45 minutes, tell the customer. Also, the customer is always right! Treat them with respect. read more

I've been driving my car 45 minutes to get my work done at this shop for the past 2 years. Great prices, friendly people, and no problems ever with any of the parts they've worked on. I had my car looked at at a different, nearby shop after it wasn't starting right and they were going to charge me $500 for a brand new fuel pump! After taking it to Laurel Auto to get a second opinion, they told me it was just a small part of my fuel pump that needed to be replaced and I was only charged $120. They do not overcharge here and aren't looking to make a profit but to help their customers out and I can always expect an honest diagnosis. These guys are my #1 go to mechanic and I encourage people to take their cars here vs other places that rip you off. read more

We had initial pleasant experiences with minor work (oil changes, State inspection) and even recommended to friends, but a terrible experience with major engine work changed our opinion forever. They totally botched a head gasket job and I returned the car several times for them to correct the work to no avail. Owner at one time took my calls, then abruptly would not when corrective repair seemed hopeless. Then the "attitude" from the customer service rep contact started and I realized this wouldn't end with them standing beside their work, and either do the right thing or take to another place to fix at their expense ( please note: the original price I paid was quite significant and the job wasn't completed as promised). I then took it to the dealer which had to do even more extensive work to repair the job and correct their work. All in all, we were without the car for several weeks throughout this debacle. I Would NOT recommend this place for ANY mechanical work, nor for any type of professional ethics should a problem result from their work performance. I went to this location today to get an emissions certification fifteen minutes before closing. After waiting several minutes for somebody to come to the front desk, I was met by one of the technicians who informed me that only cash was accepted for the service. When I indicated I'd need to run to an ATM, he directed me to one located five minutes away. I said I'd run over and be right back. With a smile, he said, "Okay!" When I returned ten minutes later (admittedly two minutes after the official close time), all doors were locked and nobody was present. My bad for not having cash and arriving near close time...but to give me directions knowing I'd be coming right back and then bolt is poor customer service. Our family is new to the area and we're in the market for mechanic (and other services). As has been noted in prior reviews, there's no premium placed on customer service at this place. They missed out on a chance to get our business if I'm ever asked to recommend (or not recommend) a local mechanic, I'll be sure to relate this experience. read more

I brought my 2005 Ford Escape there with a check engine light on. The code was for a misfire on the #3 cylinder. I had initially replaced the coil on that cylinder myself to try to fix the problem, but to no avail. They replaced 6 plugs and did an oil change. They originally wanted to charge $450.00 for this. My sister-in-law knows the owner, who then took off an hour of labor, but still $350.00 for 6 plugs and an oil change? Needless to say a few miles down the road, engine light comes back on and misfiring still. I bring it to my regular mechanic, and he shows me that two clips were broken on coils 2 and 3, and were super glued! They also charged for the replacement of the plenum gasket, which they never did. I recommend that you NEVER take your car to this place. Complete hacks and overcharge on everything. They might be able to get away with that BS is Simsbury, or to unknowing people, but karma is a B. read more
