    Avodilla - quesadilla

Ordered the Mad Wings with Southwestern sauce, Avodilla and the watermelon mule. The wings were outstandingly delicious with the sauce and hit the spot nicely! The quesadillas had the right amount of cheese and were tasty! The service was excellent and attentive. The place has a nice ambiance.

Had a nice Halloween meal! Hannah was an excellent server. Had the spicy burrito! It was delicious and the sauce was legit.

The venue was very American/mexican style Was definitely friendly and good to see for my first time The server was amazing she was on her feet all the time and gave good service The food on the other hand was pretty decent , the salsa verde wasn't too bad but the chips can use more salt The quesadilla was juicy and had good flavor ! And my mandarin marg was pretty alright ! I'd come again but would try other Mexican to see how I compares 3/5

I love Mad Mex. My chicken tacos had so much flavor, and it had some good seasoning. I got the crema on the side, and that was a nice burst of freshness. I loved the cilantro on top of the tacos. Also, my plate is colorful...picture worthy. And of course the portion was plentiful! Quick service and a great place for a happy hour. It filled up fast so don't wait too long to get your table!

Stopped by Mad Mex after shopping for a late night dinner. We had the chips and salsa and some really delicious cocktails to start. Tried their mandarin orange margarita with fresh squeezed tangerine lime and tequila and it was pretty bomb (not too sweet and fantastic tequila) and their sangria was totally awesome. For dinner, we both got the grilled chicken tacos that come stuffed full of deliciousness. They have fresh corn, cilantro, crema, and fresh radishes on top of the yummy chicken. The sides are black beans and mexican rice which were perfect. It's a great later dinner option and comes with some fun music and fab art to boot. Service is always good too.

I used to come here 1-2 times per week but sad to say things have slowly started to go down hill at this location specifically. While I live 5 minutes away, I find myself staying after work and hitting the robinson location instead. More often than not the glasses are not fully clean and the bar isn't as vibrant since some of the bartenders that made it special have moved elsewhere. The wings are more inconsistently prepared here versus the robinson location as well. With burgatory a mile down with great happy hour apps and now the new primantis across the street, it's a tougher sell to make this a priority anymore

So annoyed. Visited today for my son's birthday at 6:20 because this is where he wanted to go. I get it, it was national taco day, but they had tons of open tables and we were turned away because they said the kitchen was too busy to seat people for an hour. Figure it out, plan accordingly, this is an epic sign of a horribly managed business. This place has been this way for awhile; this is NOT the first time we've walked into a half full restaurant to be put on a massive wait. I would not recommend this business to anyone. Read my prior reviews. They have a systemic problem.

I've been here dozens of times, but it's the first time I'm writing a review. One of the things I love about this place is that it's so consistent, you know exactly what you're getting. You're not coming here to be healthy, or for the best Tex Mex food you'll ever have, but you come here because the food is pretty good, the margaritas are perfection, and they've perfected the chips and salsa game. I think it is absolutely a dining classic in Pittsburgh, especially as one of the few late night establishments. Service is always quick and you can be as fast or slow as you want in here - never feel rushed.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4 stars. Mad Mex is a casual restaurant that has several locations throughout Pennsylvania, and I had not visited one in several years. I decided to try out this location for a weekday dinner. The menu listed a variety of appetizers, entrees, sides, desserts, and beverages. Prices were good. My husband and I waited at the front entrance for a minute or two before an employee arrived. She did not greet us, but she walked us to a clean booth. The booth, though was also very narrow, so my husband had to push the table toward me so he could sit down. Our waitress was friendly. She immediately brought our waters. Then she was gone for a while. She returned after many minutes and smelled like cigarette smoke, so I think that she had been taking a break. Throughout the rest of the service, she was very timely and regularly checked in with us. Here are my reviews for the foods: Guacamole - 4.5 stars - This guacamole had been made earlier in the day, but it was very tasty and was the highlight of the entire meal. Salsa - 3.5 stars - This salsa was very thick and chunky, but it had a good flavor. Mad Mex quesadilla with chicken - 3.5 stars - This quesadilla contained cheese, peppers, onions, and my choice of protein, which was chicken. The ingredients were fresh. Unlike many other restaurant's quesadillas, this quesadilla did not drip juices and did not fall apart. Steak burrito - 3.5 stars - This burrito contained rice and beans with some steak, and my husband commented that it was a little plain. He did eat all of it. Side of beans and rice - 3 stars - My husband described this side dish as "OK, not bad and not great."

Tacos really didn't have a whole lot of flavor. The margarita wasn't bad but didn't seem to have a whole lot of tequila LOL. The chips and queso was good as well as the chips and salsa not bad. I think we've been here three times in the last 30 years and each time we understand why we have not more often.

I have a soft spot for Mad Mex. I love Gobblerito's, but I love their happy hours more. They typically have a nice offering of local beers. Half price is even better. Same goes for the wings, always crispy and good. My only beef with this location is the tiny, weird shaped bar. Staff is always friendly and the food is consistent.

POOR Portobello Quesadilla that cost TWELVE DOLLARS

What happened? This portobello quesadilla" which looks like half of one cost me $12.50!!! I used to support MM for Happy Hour for MONTHS but if this is how they treat customers paying full price; no way am I going back.

Love the artwork at Mad Mex!

I can't recall ever having a bad meal or beverage at Mad Mex. This flagship restaurant of the Big Burrito company has always impressed me with its unique style and interesting twists on classic Tex-Mex fare. Who doesn't love the Gobblerito?!? I find myself waiting for it like many wait for McDonalds to roll out the McRib. This location has a great bar and I love their happy hours! In the summer the garage doors are up and the warm breezes carry the smells of grilled meats out to lure you in from busy McKnight road. I suggest answering that call.

My friend recommended the black bean dip, and it was quite good. I'm a guac/salsa & chips girl, but this was a nice change. It was flavorful and had a nice smoky kick from chipotle. Sadly, this is another Mexican place that has eliminated the free chips & salsa. For my entree - a Mad Mex bowl with shrimp. The grilled corn was a great addition. The faro was a bit thick with the other items, but the grilled peppers & onion, with fresh cherry tomatoes, avocado, and shrimp were really good. I did ask a server for some salsa, and she brought a small ramekin of this *fabulous* pineapple habanero salsa that she said was her fave, and I quickly saw why. Excellent stuff - the pineapple really sings with a zip of citrus & heat. Yum! My friend got his usual - the crispy Baja tacos. The 3 tacos were crammed with cornmeal breaded & fried tilapia, slaw, avocado, cilantro, and topped with a zingy chipotle aioli. The only negative to me was the flour tortillas; I'm a corn tortilla girl. That dish came with rice o & beans. It was a TON of food. We each ended up taking food home. It was a nice lunch. Service was ok. Next time I come, I'll either try their signature burrito or - my friend's sister's fave: the wings (at a Mexican joint?!?). My friend - who has been coming for years - thought the prices had gone up on the menu. Almost $18 for *tilapia* fish tacos is definitely a bit much. Still, I would try it again. Love the decor inside. The place is huge. Great for big parties.

To start, we had the jalapeño cheese dip. The jalapeño flavor was subtle, but detectable. However the cheese tasted like American, so it wasn't the most authentic. For my main, I asked if they could add soy-chorizo to the mushroom and cheese enchilada and the waiter said they were not able to, which was a little disappointing. I ended up getting the enchilada with just soy-chorizo. It was tasty, but the soy-chorizo was a bit dry. My husband enjoyed the steak burrito, but found their hibiscus juice a bit too sweet.

These tacos are made Mexican style, meaning it comes with onions and cilantro with lime on the side. It also came with a side of grilled onions and potatoes. The potatoes were too soft in my opinion. I think if you were going for grilled side veggies, it's better to make it a tad crispy and browned. For the Taco Tuesday Special, I got the al pastor, steak fajita, and chicken tinga tacos. The best one had to be the al pastor because it wasn't dry and had lots of flavor. I opted for the red morita spicy sauce, and trust it actually has spice and kick to it. The tacos are double layered, which is nice. Decent meal for a Tuesday dinner, their menu is pretty basic for a taco place. For instance, their only dessert is churros with chocolate sauce.
