The food was very disappointing. I ordered the shrimp, rice, and veggie plate with cheese--something I've enjoyed at other Mexican restaurants where it usually comes with shrimp, rice, queso, peppers, and onions. At this place, however, the dish arrived with shrimp and what were clearly frozen bagged vegetables: broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower. I was willing to give it a chance, but the first bite revealed vegetables that were still cold and soggy from being frozen. This not only tasted bad but also created a watery mess that mixed with the queso, making the entire plate unappetizing. When I let the waitress know that the dish wasn't good and not what I expected, she quickly took the plate away and, without asking, brought us the check--even though we hadn't indicated we were ready to leave. The service felt rushed and dismissive, which only added to the negative experience. Overall, the food quality and service were both poor. I won't be returning, especially when there are plenty of other Mexican restaurants in the area--even average ones--that manage to provide better meals and friendlier service than this. read more

I absolutely love this place! I've been eating here since they originally opened the Wexford location years ago. Everything on the menu is authentic and delicious. And the staff is alway so friendly. I have been eating at Patron's in East Liberty two or three times per month for the past few years and had gotten to know several of the staff. The food is fine. The service generally adequate, but with management problems. Recently, there has been a turnover in staff with declining service. More recently, they forgot several food items that i had ordered. When I finished I ask them to remove those items from the bill. The manager did, but was clearly unhappy about it. I paid the bill, but placed the tip directly in the hand of the waitress because she was not at fault. Today, I found the door locked and called to see if they were open. They said I was not allowed in because I had not paid the previous bill. It is sad to see that Patron's is suffering from the effects of incompetent management. read more

Food is decent but I enjoy the atmosphere and the service staff a lot more. The steak that I got was great piece and the shrimp is a big size. One thing I would recommend to improve on is the tostados. The shell is slightly soggy because all the juices are absorbed, making it harder to eat by hand. read more

I placed an online order through their website on October 13th for pickup around 12:30 PM. I got there at 12:00, and the restaurant was completely empty. No staff, no one answering the door, and no one picking up the phone. I called at least seven times and waited over 30 minutes with no answer. The restaurant was marked as open, and the website let me place and pay for my order, but I never got my food or even got in touch with anyone to try to get a refund. I even called another Patron location in Wexford to see if they could help, but the person who answered hung up on me. When I called back, nobody picked up. I went back today, October 14th, hoping to talk to someone in person or at least get a phone call returned, but once again the place was empty and no one answered. At this point, I'm extremely disappointed and angry. I never got my food, never got a refund, and couldn't reach anyone to fix it. I would not recommend this restaurant or any of their locations to anyone. Terrible experience from start to finish. read more

Pretty decent food. It's not the best quality or the most authentic, but it is cheap and does the job. They are a local chain from what I know. Most of the classic American-Mexican foods are served here, such as burritos, tacos, quesadillas, and so on. I tried the cheese quesadilla and the churros. The quesadilla was very average. It was on the larger side though, and quite a good deal for just $9. However, it was not very flavorful. I do like that they followed my instructions for providing the lettuce and tomatoes separately to reduce sogginess. The quesadilla itself was still not that crispy. The cheese had a very strange flavor. It almost seemed a bit spoiled. Other sections had no cheese at all. I'd recommend probably not getting this. However, the churros were very delicious! I thought they were expensive at first, but when I saw the portion, I realized it was a fair price. They give you 4 churros. They are delicious, coated in a perfect amount of sugar and a nice caramel center. Hershey chocolate syrup on top as well, although I'm not a fan of it. And, they even served it with some vanilla ice cream, which was quite tasty and creamy. This is another one of the Mexican places that serves chips along with their meals. It's solid quality and complimentary so can't complain. The chips came in a nice sized bag and the salsa was okay, although watery. All in all, not bad. It's not authentic or incredible by any means, but a good stop for a cheap Mexican meal. It is definitely better than many Mexican chains. Would definitely recommend the churros, but the quesadilla? For cinco de Mayo, we decided to celebrate at Patron's! Originally, we were going to come here with a bunch of our friends for some of their amazing margaritas, but my mom ended up surprising me for the Pittsburgh marathon, so we went with her! She got the Carne asada street tacos, I got the Chile Colorado (like last time because it was so good), and my girlfriend got the steak fajitas (which is her go-to)! All of the food was so delicious and came out super fast, especially since how busy they were for the holiday! We got lucky and got some good bar seating, so we didn't have to wait very long. Patron Mexican Grill is a great spot! It's easy to find nearby street parking. They have weekly specials for drinks. I got a corona-Rita (which is exactly what it sounds like. Yum!). I ordered the Special Santa Fe. It's a huge spread of a chalupa, taco, chile relleno, tamale, enchilada, rice and beans. The chile relleno (green chili pepper stuffed with meat) and tamale (steamed cake of dough made from corn with filling) were both dishes I had never had before and I really enjoyed them. I ended up getting two meals out of this dinner. Only reason I cannot give five stars is that service was so so. Would definitely return! read more

It was a busy night so our food took a while, but the waitress kept us stocked with plenty of chips and salsa while we waited. I'm not super adventurous when it comes to Mexican food, so I just stuck with the cheese quesadilla. The flavor was good, but the cheese was only partly melted, and some of it was cold. Festive Mexican food place. There aren't many Mexican places in Pittsburgh, so Patron has a decent rep. However, their menu is crazy, and they don't execute their dishes as well as you'd expect. Table guacamole is always good, but they aren't too generous here. I loved the strong acidic lime touch to the guac, more than other places do, but I felt that the supporting cast of the diced veggies fell short. As for the entrees, everything was pretty standard. The meat was pretty mediocre, except for maybe their ground beef, which I enjoyed a lot---until it got too salty. Their steak mexicano was a total disappointment---just a really thinly sliced and cheap tbone cut. The fish was surprisingly good, so I have to give a thumbs up to that. However, all the surrounding elements: rice, beans, veggies...weren't great either. They felt more like filler than part of the meal. Overall, pretty average place. I always have a wonderful experience at this location of Patron! My friend and I went to dinner here the other night and it was no different. The service is quick and our waitress was very friendly. I ordered their homemade sangria to start and it did not disappoint. We also were given chips and salsa to share. Their homemade salsa is perfect! Good flavor! The restaurant itself is beautiful. The food leaves a lot to be desired. I ordered shrimp tacos. There was no description other than that on the menu. The amount of shrimp was generous, but it was served in tortillas with sautéed green peppers, tomato, and onion. I've had a lot of shrimp tacos in my day, but none with that combination. That's not the worst part though. They were served with some kind of vinegar MUSTARD. Not salsa. Not guac. Not sour cream. MUSTARD. On SHRIMP. I feel like that should warrant a description more than "Shrimp tacos" because no one in their right mind thinks of shrimp tacos served like this My husband ordered gorditas and I'm not even sure what they actually gave him. It was like a corn bun with little pieces of meat. It definitely didn't look like the picture. Our kids had quesadillas and they were just okay. However, just recently transitioned to a plant based diet and there was literally nothing available for me to eat. The customer service is always beyond amazing We got there at 9:10 and they closed at 9:45 to my surprise. However, the host was still very polite served us without a problem and was welcoming. It was actually a pleasure to come at this time because For happy hour this place is always ridiculously busy.
