While staying at the fantastic Sunshine Mountain Lodge, we decided to stop in to Mad Trappers for a late lunch after a early morning of canoeing and a long afternoon of hiking in Banff. When we first arrived we were pleasantly and promptly greeted by our server Ash who advised us to sit wherever we'd be most comfortable. This establishment has an ample amount of wooden tables for seating and a few large sofa couches by a warm fire place, which definitely gives it a cozy log cabin vibe. Within seconds, Ash has already brought us glasses of ice water which was wonderful after being parched from all our outdoor activities. He offered a few suggestions off the drink and app menu which made the selection process easier. We went with a few Canadian brews and of course we had to try the classic Canadian staple, poutine. Poutine is a heaping amount of fries topped with a savory brown gravy and melted cheese curds. Of all the poutine we ate on this trip, I can honestly say Mad Trappers Poutine was the absolute best!! So many melted cheese curds that I couldn't get enough of! After our delicious app, we decided to order a Reuben as well as Fish and Chips for lunch. Both came out extremely fast and were so delicious. We also decided to have the warm cookie dessert which was so heavenly and worth every calorie filled bite! Our server Ash checked on us often to make sure we were satisfied with our food and was so pleasant to talk to that he made us feel like we've been friends with him for years! He has a charm and warm personality that is rare to find in a server and I'm so happy we got to know him a bit during our lunch at this restaurant. He was always prompt, professional, and friendly. He provided such exceptional service that he definitely made us want to come back to Mad Trappers next time we're visiting Sunshine Village. If you're ever visiting Sunshine Village, be sure to stop in Mad Trappers for some amazing food and good company!

The food comes with quite large portion, so don't order a lot from the menu. Friendly people, nice view sitting outside. Try the local beer!

Pub is greenish building in the middle.

We stayed at the Sunshine Village Mountain Lodge this summer. This pub is up in the mountains next to the Lodge. We were expecting crazy hotel restaurant prices due to the location but they were actually pretty reasonable ($15-$20 CAN). They have usual Pub food like wings and burgers. Food is only served until 10 but the Pub stays open just for drinks until later. You will see the staff who also lives on the mountain having a few drinks here after their shift. Fun atmosphere.

Wow, great atmosphere. Don't ski Sunshine without poking your head in the bar that was the original sunshine INN.

They uniquely do a 72 hour dough rise for the pizza. Create a very airy and light focaccia style pizza crust. I had the elk sausage and roasted kale pizza. I found the pizza very good, very rich due to the type of cheeses they used ....however I found out...I don't like kale - so I picked it off. Kathy enjoyed the tuna melt, with waffle fries. It was yummy. The server was quick, guided us through some suggestions, and our order was out reasonably quickly. Banff gets busy in the afternoon. We arrive just before the rush at 2 PM. If you're looking for good food and a good beer, three beers brewery is a good choice. Asfoor value a bit on the higher side.... I'd use 3 ($$$) for two of us. Kid, friendly yes, clean bathrooms, good waiter-staff. Three Bears gets a two thumbs up for Banff Canada.

The kale salad was abundant and dressed well with abundant toppings. The pizza was like our server said it would be - greasy in the best way possible. We ordered to share: Bison carpaccio: 8/10, the large pieces of black salt(?) was overwhelming the bison, but otherwise very unique and worth trying Burrata salad: 100/10, super refreshing and unique palate of thinly ribboned squash covered with tarragon vinaigrette and burrata. Smoked trout doughnut: 8/10, interesting combination of sweet (donut, lemon glaze) and savory (smoked trout, herbed Crème Fraîche, everything bagel seasoning, pickled shallot) Individually: Strip sirloin: I didn't have this one but 10/10 for work of art presentation. Huge piece of steak though. Roasted chicken: 9/10 myself and one other got the chicken. Tender and well seasoned with sweet and spicy harissa honey glaze and chili crisps. It looked like they gave half a whole chicken to her and the other half to me, huge portions. Probably could've been 3 meals. Peyto's ribs: 9/10 had to get it for the touch of maple paprika. Seared ling cod: 9/10 it's the only portion that remotely made sense for a single person and didn't end with leftovers. The dimly lit atmosphere at Brazen is perfect to unwind in after a long day of hiking and exploring. The portions are generous and flavor profile recommendations between appetizers, mains, and drinks well explored. Highly recommend making an advance reservation to try!

The assistant manager/host was so awesome and attentive. My mom struggles with GI issues and is intolerant to a lot of things -- he did his best to communicate with the chef and our server to create a dish that would be more akin to what my mom could eat. I got the beef & bison meatballs and a side of cornbread. As well as an unleaded espresso martini. Delish! Interior is swanky and dim, but has great big windows that give a lovely view of downtown Banff.
