    Poutine

I hate to leave a bad review but this place was not good. We decided to try our first Canadian poutine and it fell so flat for us. The worst part of the meal was the broccoli cheddar soup. Unless you like like water cream broth with chunks of broccoli do not order. Our server wasn't great at first. We could kinda of tell he was having a rough shift because the tables around us were being difficult. He warmed up though and was pretty great. Unfortunately we would not go back there unless we just wanted to grab a beer.

While staying at the fantastic Sunshine Mountain Lodge, we decided to stop in to Mad Trappers for a late lunch after a early morning of canoeing and a long afternoon of hiking in Banff. When we first arrived we were pleasantly and promptly greeted by our server Ash who advised us to sit wherever we'd be most comfortable. This establishment has an ample amount of wooden tables for seating and a few large sofa couches by a warm fire place, which definitely gives it a cozy log cabin vibe. Within seconds, Ash has already brought us glasses of ice water which was wonderful after being parched from all our outdoor activities. He offered a few suggestions off the drink and app menu which made the selection process easier. We went with a few Canadian brews and of course we had to try the classic Canadian staple, poutine. Poutine is a heaping amount of fries topped with a savory brown gravy and melted cheese curds. Of all the poutine we ate on this trip, I can honestly say Mad Trappers Poutine was the absolute best!! So many melted cheese curds that I couldn't get enough of! After our delicious app, we decided to order a Reuben as well as Fish and Chips for lunch. Both came out extremely fast and were so delicious. We also decided to have the warm cookie dessert which was so heavenly and worth every calorie filled bite! Our server Ash checked on us often to make sure we were satisfied with our food and was so pleasant to talk to that he made us feel like we've been friends with him for years! He has a charm and warm personality that is rare to find in a server and I'm so happy we got to know him a bit during our lunch at this restaurant. He was always prompt, professional, and friendly. He provided such exceptional service that he definitely made us want to come back to Mad Trappers next time we're visiting Sunshine Village. If you're ever visiting Sunshine Village, be sure to stop in Mad Trappers for some amazing food and good company!

The food comes with quite large portion, so don't order a lot from the menu. Friendly people, nice view sitting outside. Try the local beer!

Pub is greenish building in the middle.

We stayed at the Sunshine Village Mountain Lodge this summer. This pub is up in the mountains next to the Lodge. We were expecting crazy hotel restaurant prices due to the location but they were actually pretty reasonable ($15-$20 CAN). They have usual Pub food like wings and burgers. Food is only served until 10 but the Pub stays open just for drinks until later. You will see the staff who also lives on the mountain having a few drinks here after their shift. Fun atmosphere.

Wow, great atmosphere. Don't ski Sunshine without poking your head in the bar that was the original sunshine INN.

Our male server was very welcoming and customer service oriented. How thoughtful of him to offer mocktails. Thanked him for the offer. Typical me settled for H2O to hydrate. Elk and Kale Pizza served piping hot and made fresh with highest quality ingredients. Every ingredient integrated well with each other. I'm able to taste different textures, seasonings and flavors. Scrumptious and amazingly tasty that I consumed the whole pie. One of the best pizzas I've tasted in my lifetime! Huge restaurant with gender neutral washrooms. Highly recommend. Worth visiting.

We ordered to share: Bison carpaccio: 8/10, the large pieces of black salt(?) was overwhelming the bison, but otherwise very unique and worth trying Burrata salad: 100/10, super refreshing and unique palate of thinly ribboned squash covered with tarragon vinaigrette and burrata. Smoked trout doughnut: 8/10, interesting combination of sweet (donut, lemon glaze) and savory (smoked trout, herbed Crème Fraîche, everything bagel seasoning, pickled shallot) Individually: Strip sirloin: I didn't have this one but 10/10 for work of art presentation. Huge piece of steak though. Roasted chicken: 9/10 myself and one other got the chicken. Tender and well seasoned with sweet and spicy harissa honey glaze and chili crisps. It looked like they gave half a whole chicken to her and the other half to me, huge portions. Probably could've been 3 meals. Peyto's ribs: 9/10 had to get it for the touch of maple paprika. Seared ling cod: 9/10 it's the only portion that remotely made sense for a single person and didn't end with leftovers. The dimly lit atmosphere at Brazen is perfect to unwind in after a long day of hiking and exploring. The portions are generous and flavor profile recommendations between appetizers, mains, and drinks well explored. Highly recommend making an advance reservation to try!

Soup Sandwiches to the rescue!!…read more After a day of hiking and exploring in the Mountains, we were tired, sore, and hangry. Noshing throughout the day we were set on a good soup and sandwich combo. We checked multiple locations and either it was high-end foo foo or just more than we want or just worse. It was pub grub and they had one soup and they weren't sure what it was. We found Wild Flour. They offer multiple soups and sandwiches and a few treats. Kathy selected a carrot fennel bowl (massive) and served with fresh bread and butter, I had a meat and cheese grilled cheese on a focaccia bread, Of course we "shar-zies" and the comfort was enjoyed. The team at 630pm was helpful and prompt guided us as we had not eaten at Wild Flour. Good food, reasonably priced for Banff is a find. Go to Wild Flour and enjoy... we did.
