My friends and I stopped by Coyotes Southwestern Grill for breakfast while we were in downtown Banff and arrived right when they opened. The service really stood out--our server was hands down the friendliest we encountered on the trip. She was the only server working but still managed multiple tables with ease, answered all of our questions about the menu, and genuinely elevated the whole experience! We ordered a variety of breakfast dishes, and everything was solid. Nothing was particularly standout, but it's breakfast food--you can't really go wrong. We visited twice - for dinner and breakfast - during our Banff stay. For dinner, we had the flank steak and the blue corn chicken enchilada stack. Both tasted very good. Would say portions are a bit on the small side for the prices. The outdoor seating was nice but it was taking a long time for food to arrive, which was fine (it was a nice night and not getting too cold). This place has a cool rustic vibe and is easy to locate. The menu has daily soup and sandwich offerings which are perfect on a cold day. I thought the sweet potato and corn soup sounded intriguing and it was delish! I also ordered a turkey BLT on gluten free bread toasted and the half order was just enough. What a great meal! The margaritas were really well done. The salad with warm goat cheese was so good, I had to ask how they did it. (Hint: fresh orange juice in the vinaigrette) The pizza with chicken, mushrooms and red pepper hit the spot, and the quesadillas were outstanding. Kudos to chef Merdan and to our server, Kristian. Still good tho. Rice was pretty good. The veggies received no love haha. No seasoning, no sauce, no nothin. Just some cooked veggies. Hot chocolate was pretty good, but excessively foamy on top. Stopped at this restaurant during an overnight stay in Banff. Came in for breakfast on Friday, 10/4/2024. Great location downtown and no lengthy wait to get in. Cool atmosphere. Ordered the Rundle Mountain breakfast with eggs, over medium, and "strip bacon." The eggs were severely overcooked and burnt brown, the oven roasted potatoes were dried out and overcooked, and the "strip" bacon was overcooked and more like crumbled bacon instead of strips of bacon. Delicious home made food, great service. We stopped in for lunch and ordered the goat cheese shrimp enchilada, chicken tortillas soup, Italian sandwich, and side salad. The enchilada was fantastic with large shrimp and lots of cheese and toasted to perfection. The soup was very flavorful with a little spicy kick. The salad had a very good house dressing. I would recommend stopping for lunch or dinner while visiting Banff. read more

After long time , I found a restaurant with excellent customer service, friendly staff & mins blowing food. I want to acknowledge our server who went out of his way to accommodate us including our small Maltese puppy. ( offered him blanket coz he was drenched in rain like us) He even suggested us the most ordered starter which is the orange prawn dish n it was not at all a disappointment. Cornbread was super soft . Our order included vegetarian burger & pulled pork enchiladas & they were mind glowingly delicious , so fresh vegetables topics & super soft meat with a side of crunch n soft roasted potatoes. We were so full with the food but do wanted to try a desert on the menu so we got gluten free chocolate cake. We weren't too hungry, but knew that it would probably serve us well to get a little bit of food - before we hit the road. Coyotes seemed like a great fit for some light bites. The ambiance was warm and low-key. It felt homey and inviting. I ordered a side of salmon - and my husband ordered a fresh salad. Both our orders were simple and straightforward. We both enjoyed what we ordered. Out waitress was very friendly and there weren't too many other customers when we stopped in - so she was particularly attentive. My husband also ordered a sandwich to go. I love that they use freshly baked bread for their sandwiches. I can't say that I'd be in a rush to come back to Coyotoes Southwestern Grill - but I'd recommend it if you wanted a mellow meal made with care. Their breakfast menu looked solid, their lunch menu had a variety of options if you were looking for something healthy or had dietary restrictions, and their dinner menu had an array of tasty dishes ranging from fresh pasta, to flatbreads, tacos -and some quality protein choices. Came here for breakfast one morning while staying in town. Sat inside as outside was first come, first served. Food came up very quickly. Ordered the chorizo eggs Benedict and my mom the rundel breakfast. Eggs were cooked to perfection, nice and runny yolk but no runny egg whites. Bits of chorizo were fairly small, just enough to taste it but not over powering. The jam on top of the pancakes was really tasty, pretty sweet, but still good. The potatoes were pretty bland, I put some salt and pepper on them but still nothing to write home about, could've been a bit crispier too. Was very convenient breakfast spot since it was next to our hotel and open early. Though it wasn't anything that special, the eggs Benedict was good and I would order it again if I came back for breakfast...unsure if I would choose to come back here for breakfast, but would consider checking out their lunch or dinner menu if I found myself back in town read more

We grabbed lunch here and asked to sit on the patio. Here's a tip... the patio is literally on the street so every car that drives by or diesel truck delivering supplies is right there- you could probably reach out and touch them. There's so many restaurants in the town of Banff and we found this gem right in town! The waitress was really friendly and helpful! We didn't know what to order so she made some recommendations and it was really good! My husband had the Blue Corn Chicken enchilada, my friend and myself had the fish tacos! The chicken enchilada was good but the fish taco was so tasty and crunchy when you bite into it! The taco had a really yummy mango salsa with some jicama slaw, it also had pieces of shrimp in it too! I expected the food to be expensive based on the touristy location but $25.95 for a bowl of pasta that doesn't have many toppings (I even paid $6.95 to add chicken, but it was just tiny slices of it like almond slivers). The "fresh fettuccine in olive oil" was quite aldente and I think they used a lower grade olive oil instead of extra virgin olive oil because it was just oily with no flavour. I also had a hard time finding the chicken on the smoked chicken pizza. So not worth $26.95! I'd recommend skipping this restaurant and trying somewhere else! read more

Love this place... we had the best breakfast. Much better than the restaurant next door, where we had dinner our first night in town. And even the much more pricey breakfast in the airport on our way home. I highly recommend anything you get - potatoes, eggs, bacon, pancakes, etc will all be made perfectly and smells so good. Portions were fair and we left full. Didn't try the frittatas or huevos rancheros but everything else we did try was spot on! I'm actually sorry we didn't get to come back a few more times - but you can bet we will in the future. Tip: When you order pancakes it will usually say with fruit. No need to ask/order maple syrup, since it comes with that too. But they will bring you an additional side of sizzurp - just be aware it's $1.50. Bonus tip: They also do lunch and dinner, which I'm sure are fine. but breakfast should not be missed. Price is just right, start with the Two Egg Breakfast then upgrade to other options like a benedict or steak&eggs the next time you're craving (not sure how they can do it any cheaper, at this quality). read more

I ordered a Shirley temple and it was very watered down, if you come here I wouldn't recommend getting the Shirley temple, although the chocolate milk was very lavish, I would recommend, for only 4,99$ it's a steal. The ice proportions are very superb, and the shape is also on point, you can tell that the chef's have done this thousands of times, and they really know their way around a grill. Both of the chefs do not have their hair in hair nets, although they have very steezy hats. This restaurant has a southwestern rustic feel. They gave us a candle for the table, it makes it feel very homey, yet it keeps the same western vibe. There is a good amount of people here although we didn't have to make a reservation. I am here with a group of 8 people and we had to move a table because they must have been only prepared for a group of six people at the absolute most. There is quite an ambiance of lighting, plus they definitely put some thought into the decoration. 33 minutes in after ordering the food the soup arrived, and the soup bowls were extremely shallow, that is something that you never want when eating soup, at the 37 minute mark two of our burgers started being built, again that is a very long time just for them to start building the burgers. 47:34 minutes in we FINALLY got our food the burgers were slightly overcooked, and the potatoes had very little flavour. My friend got the salmon and rice and one of my friends dads got the snow day special and it was the exact same thing but the special was six dollars cheaper and came with soup and cake. We just tried this place and we impressed. We all tried the Winter Dinner Special. It's a bargain at $35 pp. One person had the chicken tortilla soup and the blue corn enchilada. She said they both were very good and she would order again. The other person had the spinach salad. She said it was one of the best she had had in a while. Her main course was the sweet potato polenta with ratatouille. She thought it was very good also. I had the orange chipotle shrimp. The were good. Visited 1st time December 2017 (revisited June 2019) It's small - indeed, but it's so worth the wait if you arrive and there's a line. Wait to be seated... don't be "that tourist" who sits at a dirty table because it's empty. They really do want to give you a clean table & great service. Cozy and warmer near the back by the grill, quite a broad menu to select from and open kitchen. Bread bar on the wall - if I could eat it...it sure looks good. Short walk from our hotel (Elk + Ave). Gluten free available here! Lots to choose from, but I can't help myself - I keep ordering the Huevos - creamy, hearty, and filling - I always have leftovers (which reheat well - with a side of bacon the second visit!), but there are a number of items on the menu they offer and can adapt for gluten free diners. Cider - yes a selection, and it's cold and lovely. Our server recommended we try the Rock Creek (Calgary) Rosé. Glad I tried it, but it's not my favourite. I like a plain apple cider, nothing fancy. The wine list is small, but meets my needs. Service is consistently responsive. Drinks are brought promptly, as are meals when ready. When our server forgot something for one of our group's meal order and we gently reminded, it was taken care of (off the bill), although it would have been nice if it had been on the plate. There is a little patio outside (June 2019), but when we visited it was a little windy/chilly but sunny and there were people seated outside. We brought some guests visiting for a conference, and they were chose to be seated indoors. We like this place and their consistent service and food quality, as well as awareness of celiac and gluten-free needs will keep us returning when we visit Banff. Washrooms downstairs, there's a ramp but I think it's for the prep kitchen. ** (June'19) Be warned, the washrooms are down stairs, past the prep kitchen at the end of the hall and up a step, not very friendly for anyone differently abled to get to. It's in a great location among other popular restaurants and bars just off of the Main Street in Banff. I wasn't overly impressed with the menu as it rather limiting and expensive for what you get (small serving sizes and lackluster service), but what really pulls this restaurant down is the state of cleanliness, or lack thereof to be more specific. Before ordering your food, just do yourself a favour and walk to the bathroom. In doing so, you walk inside, past the dirty kitchen, down the dirty steep stairs, which leads past a door where someone is preparing food in what is a very dirty looking room, before entering the (shocker) dirty bathrooms. If I wasn't with someone else at the time, I would have cancelled my order and left. It made me certain I would get sick from the food. I ordered the Cajun chicken and it is very small for the price. You literally get twice the size at Earls in Banff. Also, they have no fries or fryer so you get these greasy roasted potatoes instead. Not good. In all fairness, someone else had a burger and thought it was good. Lastly, I did end up getting sick within 24-hours, but I can't honestly say it was from this restaurant, but given the lack of cleanliness inside, I wouldn't rule it out and I definitely wouldn't return.
