MadCat has always been our favorite spot in town. As certified crazy cat people, we love it here. Today we were at the Monroe location to pick up some toys for a new feline friend -- our first visit since Covid. The staff were really nice and wore masks and were keeping a safe distance. There were two adorable kittens who obviously make everything wonderful. The store is always clean and stocked. We love buying local from Madison cat toy makers (like TacoCat). We really missed MadCat! They do call ahead, pick ups and in-store shopping. Masks are required for customers. The kittens didn't have masks :) read more

Decent parking in front of the store. Time limits but 15 minutes is sufficient for this store. Cat and dog stuff. Better than the basic goods from a large box store. Prices are reasonable for boutique animal toys, treats and food. The toys they keep in stock for cats are sure to please even the most finicky feline. They refill containers of kitty litter which is great and green! Love that. The little kitty they had running about the store, was super friendly and even tried to follow us around and out of the store. I wanted to take him home. The staff extremely pleasant friendly and helpful. I highly recommend any owner that loves their cat like family, to shop here! read more

Most pet stores are for the dogs. Although my best friend in my 30s was a dog named Kamal, since then I've realized that cats are the pets for people who have lives (as Garrison Keillor put it). This is a cat-centric pet store, yay! When we first came here there were two workers, one over-qualified human female (veterinary student), one domestic shorthair. The human worker was much more helpful than the cat. We needed to solve an anxiety problem, we knew we needed to start walking our male cat around the outside of our house, from watching Jackson Galaxy, but the equipment specifics put us in the capable hands of the young lady working here. She talked us into less than $20 worth of harness, leash and toys which all worked out very well. They have high quality cat play-trees and scratching posts at good prices (you can't compare with the more cheaply made versions in the larger chain pet stores, these are much more attractive and better built). They carry all the toys that Jackson Galaxy (he is the Anthony Bourdain of cat-ownership) recommends. Unlike many stores in this bicycle-friendly town, there's convenient parking right in front. Still, if I lived in town, I'd ride my bike here. read more

This can be a great option to look for toys that provide mental stimulation to your cat or dog yet are safe for pets in terms of manufacturing quality. So I'm updating my 5 star review to a still 5 star review! I just have new exciting revelations about the place. I used to come to Mad Cat for random cat needs. Toys, shampoo, cat nip. But now this is the only place I shop at. Don't get me wrong I love Mounds too since they are local, but they are no convenient locations for a person that lives downtown. After coming in one day and taking a closer look at what they stock I realized they have all of my cat foods needs here! I buy Fromm's for my kitty, a Wisconsin brand made with awesome ingredients. And they also carry BFF brand wet cat food. They also do a frequent buyer program. 12 bags bought =1 bag free. My kitty is only 7.4 pounds so it takes nearly a year to get there...but hey I appreciate them giving an incentive to continue buying locally. The people there are always super helpful and friendly! read more

This was my first time visiting Mad Cat on Monroe, I often frequent the store on Willy Street. Both are totally awesome stores, although this store has slightly better and bigger selection. Don't be confused by the name they have both dog and cat supplies. I love all of the smaller brand and artisan foods and toys for pets. I came into the store today because my cat had an upset stomach. There was an ample quantity of over the counter supplements and treats to help with this issue. MadCat is more for cat folks than "cat & dog" folks. This branch is relatively small and the dog supply offerings is rather limited (in comparison to other smaller boutique pet stores like Nutzy Mutz and Crazy Cats). The cat items are high quality and they do have a great policy regarding the food options that they carry. All pet food is extremely "high end" (they don't carry the big chains like Purina for example), but considering the brand names, I noticed the prices are very fair when compared to the cost you find on discount online stores like Chewy.com, etc. read more

Despite the name, this is a dog and cat pet store. The staff are extremely friendly. I went in with my pup looking for a toy that he couldn't destroy (because he destroys every stuffed animal we have gotten him in a few days). The staff recommended this brand of stuffed animals that they carry that is made with mesh lining so it's very hard for them to rip it open. I was shocked that the toy has held out with no holes, tears, rips, etc. and it's been 10 days. Thank you for recommending this to us! We will certainly be back for more! read more

I really like this spot for its unique pet items. They have some great prices on cat nip and other kitty-friendly items. Giant sparkly balls are only $1 which keeps me coming back just for those! They have a good variety of squishy foods and dry foods. They also have a unique selection of cat-accessories such as houses, trees, and randomness that even the most pampered of cats does not need - but most certainly should have! The staff is always very friendly and this is a fun store to get your kitty stocked up at! read more

Fantastic service and very welcoming. Staff are knowledgeable about their products and helping you find something to suit your pet(s)' tastes. My dogs love coming in and getting treats. I forgot one of my purchases on the counter- when I came back the next day, the clerk remembered me and handed it to me - or maybe she just remembered my puppies. Either way I was impressed! Happened upon this joint while being a tourist in Madison. Loved the shop. Quant but chock full of great pet goodies. I left with some fabulous treats for my dogs. Who knew that water buffalo provide such a great chew horn? Great advice from the employees . Some stuff was pricey but worth it. Parking is limited but easy in and out. read more

Mad Cat Monroe St is awesome. The staff are friendly and very helpful. They are always stocked and if I buy food my little fuzzy darlings at home suddenly refuse to eat...yes they are spoiled rotten and I only have myself to blame....I can bring it back and swap it out for something else...no problem. They are open into the evening hours which really helps. They are deeply committed to helping place rescues, older cats, strays. Under their care I've seen many cats who come in a little banged up, fearful and shy become more social, sweet and loving. Of course many of the rescues have clearly come from homes where they were loved and taken care of but they are the easier ones to place. Parking has gotten a little tight since the area is becoming overdeveloped (my opinion, not Mad Cat's) and catering to people who drive cars. Many stores have opened and closed in Knickerbocker Plaza but it hopefully Mad Cat will be there for a long time. read more
