Hands down the worst experience I've ever had trying to purchase a home. They knew that the house was in bad shape but withheld the information from me, I had to go through 3 lenders and 4 different loan types and instead of come forward with the issue they blamed my credit. I was approved it was the failed engendered foundation and the home owners saying that they passed inspection on the septic when in fact they failed because it was not connected properly. The realtor who was supposed to be representing me raised her voice and wouldn't tell me the truth even when we showed her the report she had access to the whole time. We bought a house in Fairbanks in 2002, since 2002 we have worked with 7 agents on either trying to sell the house or managing renters in the house. I had pretty much given up on expecting a normal real estate experience in Fairbanks. We had multiple failed sale attempts where the agents just did not put what you would expect into the process. I found Gary Gallemore of Madden Real Estate with an internet search, he was the 3rd agent I contacted for this sale, I worked with the other 2 agents for a few weeks to a few months until it was clear they were not into selling my house or did not have the experience to sell this type of house. Gary and the Madden team (Yes I shit you not, there was a team of people focused on different aspects of the sale) were different right from the start. I flew to Fairbanks to coordinate the contractor work to get the house ready for sale, Gary met me at the property multiple times and he was interested in what my concerns were. When the house was put on the market It was late in the year and I thought for sure I would be sitting on it until the next Summer. Then I started to see their marketing effort, the house got it's own web page, with drone footage that really showed how cool this property is (after all we held on to it for 20 years because it was a cool property). Fritzie Palmero of Madden Real Estate communicated with me many times during the pre deal/Marketing portion of the sale, offering assistance with contractors for things I may need to get done. Since I was now back in Washington, this really helped. So let's set the stage before the Sale. One of the other agents (with another firm) I had talked to before Gary told me "Do not spend any money fixing up the house" and "I am not sure it is worth even $ (a low amount)". I spent about $30,000 on fixing up the property and not only did it sell for $50,000 over the low amount, I got more than 1 offer on the property. Once I entered into a deal with a buyer, another specialist, Melissa Garwood of Madden Real Estate communicated with me all the time keeping me up to date with where things were and what needed to be done. The pictures used for the listing were very high quality. I even think they retook the pictures a few months into the listing. 99% of the paperwork was done online. Wes Madden Real Estate was the listing agent for the house I recently purchased. I would recommend to anyone buying a house from a Madden agent as the lister that they pay particular attenttion to all the details. One of the biggest turn-offs was that the listing agent allowed the seller to sell a filthy house. There are many other displeasures to discuss, it it's moot at this point. While my realtor (not Madden) was great, I would not do business with a Madden agent or himself again given the chance. read more

We had an excellent experience using Madden Real Estate when buying our house in Alaska. the process was extremely smooth and very fast. I think from start to finish the whole process took 30 days between putting the bid in on the house and closing. We worked with Greg Baldwin and Justin Heminger and both were fantastic. Madden Real Estate charges 3.5 to 4.0 percent on a house sale (added to the buyer's agent's commission of 3.0), which is slightly more than some other agencies. The higher rate is supposed to be for outstanding service. In our experience the service was average or slightly above. When we talked to Wes Madden about it, he was a good listener and acknowledged that a few aspects of our sale might have gone smoother. Still, we got a quick sale with this agency. Whatever agency you use to sell your house, try to negotiate a lower commission. 6.5% is $6,500 on each $100,000 sale price. A house sale at $250,000 at 6.5% is $16,250, which usually comes out of the seller's proceeds from the sale. Currently sellers are also paying the buyer's costs, which can be as much as $8,000. read more

I found the house myself on Trulia/Zillow and ended up getting stuck with a "buyer's agent" (Megan Quan) from Madden as a result of the online realtor assignment program realtors buy into. It was the third home I purchased in Alaska and by far the worst experience. I do not feel like my interests were protected as an out-of-state buyer and would not recommend this agent or realty company. The whole process was fraught with unnecessary conflict and stress, and the agent just made excuses for her ineptitude. I won't use this agent or brokerage if I buy another place in a few years. Either these other reviews are fake or the company did a better job in the past of taking care of its customers. read more

I was unfortunate to have to use this realty company in buying a house in North Pole. I found the house on either Zillow or Trulia and indicated my interest online. Minutes later I got a call from a Wes Madden "buyer's agent," which is a total oxymoron. She was deceptive and condescending, and is someone only looking at for her interests. Essentially, the seller had TWO agents. I moved in from the lower 48, and this woman made my alleged inaccessibility during the drive her excuse for her ineptitude and incompetence or just plain laziness. She was basically nothing but a typist for the offer, and she provided very little assistance in that area, too. Luckily, I ignored half her bull and worked with my lender. Also, this broker tries to charge extra using some kind of "escrow" person, which only makes the agent do less work. Any company that would hire such an unprofessional must be composed of similar types. In this case, the agent was an impediment to a smooth sale, and this brokerage didn't even return my telephone calls to speak to the broker. When I sell this house in 3-5 years and move to a bigger one, I won't even sell it to anyone represented by this realty company much less list with them. If you're out of state, stay away from this realty company and Megan Quan, who is incompetent and dishonest. Unless you like having to engage in conflict every step of the way.... read more
