I gave this place a 5 star, as we are traveling and have stopped at lots of places along the road to grab food, this place hands down was the best. Ambiance was a little dated however floor and tables were clean. Seated immediately They have an extensive menu but my husband and I decided on the buffet. Salad bar was adequate however the flies around the food really turned me off. For hot food they had fried chicken which was well cooked and crunchy but missing flavor. Sweet chili chicken pieces very tasty a little on the spicy, pasta dish ( did not try) , fried rice and mashed potatoes. Dessert they had a jello dish and grapes in a sauce which were pretty good. Everyone knew everyone, which gave the place a comfortable feeling. Burger was much larger than I anticipated and was very good . Got a loaded baked potato that I had to take with me. Hubby got the fried chicken with mashed potatoes. He said it was good. Always the best food for breakfast and dinner. We always come out from Colorado for opening day Turkey hunting and this is our go to spot for breakfast and dinner. 1st night is always chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and a salad. Breakfast l, always #2 with a biscuit if they aren't sold out. Kim is the best server and keeps the drinks coming. Highly recommend any of the ribeyes. A couple of us stopped by at 8:30 on a Saturday evening after a day of driving. Nice clean place with very friendly staff. The outside of the building is not inviting and If I lived by the theory that first impressions count, then I would not have gone in. The sign was faded and the sidewalks were cracked and broken in spots. Once inside the building, it was very warm, cozy almost a feeling of "Cheers" as people were addressing each other. Don't drive by it's right off I70. Today， we stopped for a light lunch and the salad bar was cold and fresh. Try the cucumber salad on top of a bed of finely chopped lettuce it was super yummy. The grilled chicken breast was moist and flavorful. The owner cuts his own steaks and from what I saw they are huge. The steak in the steak & eggs dish is a 16oz ribeye! What a gem in Russell Kansas! We enjoyed diner there tonight, arrived about 6:30 and they weren't busy. Yet. By the time we left, lots of tables were full. I opted for the buffet, which is a bargain at $12.95. Wonderful fried chicken, BBQ beef was delicious, plus there was chicken fried rice, egg rolls, mashed potatoes and gravy, and assorted veggies. Salad bar was a great way to start the meal. My husband and his Mom chose the chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes. Huge servings and they both raved about it. The rolls are to DIE for!! Huge, warm and melt in your mouth. Iced tea was delicious and free!! The server and hostess were very pleasant. So very glad this restaurant survived Covid, and grateful the townspeople support this small business. Would love to go back for breakfast next time we're in KS. I would recommend this place to anyone: my in-laws are local and have gone there for decades and always love the food. read more

I was told to come here by a friend and so glad I did! The hand cut steak was amazing. Waffles for dinner was a hit for my kids, and I enjoyed the buffet which had a variety of salads, fried food and puddings. Everything was good, and we left full and happy. This small town food joint is everything you need it to be. It's like something out of a movie. I guess they're known for their steaks, but I got the chicken cordon bleu which I am pretty sure just came out of a box from the grocery store lol (see picture). A neighborhood "joint." Definitely not bad. Found out when we were seated in the dining room that to get alcohol you have to be seated in the bar area--something to remember. By the time we were done (we ate early), the seating at the bar was getting full on a Monday night. The bartender was doing it all--taking orders, getting drinks, serving, bussing--and doing pretty well. The food was good but nothing to write home about. We didn't have them, but I thought the steaks were expensive then I heard several locals order the breakfast ribeye; don't know the cost but I guess smaller and less expensive. Restaurant is separated into 2 parts, if you turn Right when you come in the door this takes you To the fancy side of the restaurant, turn left and You have the bar and less fancy side. While fueling up as stretching legs I looked at places nearby for lunch as saw this place had good reviews so we decided to give it a try. They have a large selection of huge steaks but they are labeled as choice and ranging from $28 to $50 I thought they were too expensive so we all got the buffet. It was good. It's small so there's not a lot of choices but what they had was good. The fried chicken was really good! The tater tot casserole was really good as well. Also, they have sweet tea. It's not too sweet. The place was clean and inviting. I would recommend stopping here. read more
