I wonder if they are able to remove the bad reviews. I wrote how they wanted to do unnecessary work and going to charge me $3700 (after insurance). I got a second opinion and found I actually needed one crown that wasn't even found by Modern Dentistry. And that was all, $550. I have been going to Modern Dentistry for 8 years. I will not go back. However, his preventative maintenance program has not been as good. Recently my #2 molar suddenly almost completely disintegrated from an internal cavity that had been festering for years. Regretfully, after years of dental hygiene, numerous repairs, semi-annual complete checks of my dental condition, and a great number of full mouth X-rays, all failed to discover the decay that could have been repaired inexpensively early on. When Dr. Sokal had this business I was very satisfied with the practice. After Dr. Sokal retired Dr. Schuh (sp?) took it over. He was very friendly and personable and I never trusted his dental expertise. Now the new dentist (3rd dentist in three years), Dr. Laos examined me today. I will not be going back. When he came in the room he looked at the computer screen and asked me if it was ok to call me by my first name and I said yes enthusiastically. Those were the last words he said to me. He spoke only to the assistant in the room asking her to make entries in the computer as he instructed her what my "treatment plan" would be. He spoke in dentistry terms and instructed her that I needed about six different procedures some of which I understood and some of which I didn't. This is the worst chair-side manner I've ever encountered. By the way, the assistant, Melissa, was very good, friendly, competent and helpful. I wish she worked for a different office. I'm sorry but I don't remember the name of the hygienist who was also quite good.

I was very nervous and upset because he had to go in and fix the tooth he refused to see me because I got so nervous. He accused me on two different occasions, of being rude to his staff. He only had four years experience of doing root canals. I cannot recommend this person and I cannot recommend this center. I had to drive down and inclement weather and it was very nervous making. I told him my physical conditions (which are extensive), and he accused me of "playing the victim".

I came for a "new patient" X-ray and exam package, and added on a cleaning. I found the reception welcoming, the hygienist was excellent (a real perfectionist, Romelle knows his work well) and the dentist, Dr. O, engaging and pleasant. No attempts to elicit more work than was needed. Decent pricing and hassle free experience. I do believe I've found my long-term dentist in Green Valley!

I told her I had no idea of what the bill was for and she said is was for the difference between what insurance covers and I owe. Yet told the admin staff when making that first appointment I could bring it if needed. Dentist was rude since I sat in to witness wife's exam and statements made to her. I then told the dentist, "I always come to witness because our experience with the medical community here in Green Valley has been to 'upsell' my wife on treatments, tests, etc., that are not warranted based on current tests and evidence today. We even discovered 'PILL MILL' physicians, obviously taking advantage of senior's to get more medicare $$$ out of their patients." You can guess how well that went over with the dentist as I watched her basically bite back any kind of response. Was advised they would have to call back, Oral surgeon has to review and Oral surgeon has no scheduled appointments for the whole month of June at their Green Valley location I was told. Three hours later, 'no' call back, I called them @ 1:35pm and asked that X-Rays be sent to our 'new' dentist that can see my wife and her painful toothache Monday 6/9. They said I have to come sign a release for them to be sent to the new dentist. I said okay and asked how late they are there?, said there to 3pm. I got there at 1:55pm and they only had the release ready for 'me' to sign. PLUS-PLUS!!! I got there at 1:55pm..., on the phone she said they would be there until 3pm. ON THEIR FRONT WINDOW, IT SAYS THEY RETURN FROM LUNCH AT ' 1:00pm ', but when I got there at 1:55pm, THEY HAD LOCKED THE DOOR or NEVER UNLOCKED IT AFTER THEIR LUNCH. As a former business owner and manager of several business's, NO WALK IN TRAFFIC COULD COME IN TO DO BUSNIESS!!! PLUS THEY HAD TURNED OFF ALL THE LIGHTS IN THE CUSTOMER AREA AND FRONT DESK AREA 'MAKING IT APPEAR CLOSED' ESPECIALLY WITH A LOCKED BUSINESS DOOR!!! Two days ago, November 3, 2024, we received a bill for $63.00 from their Phoenix billing office for dental work my wife received in April of 2023, one year and seven months ago. The bill was in two parts. One was the April 2023 dental work, and the other was a no-show charge from back in 2022. This bill intimated that if we did not pay within 10 days, the bill would be sent to collections. We had received no bill about this until two days ago. I went to the Green Valley office to sort this out and was told they could waive the no-show charge, but I would have to pay $33 for my wife's dental work. I paid it, but I wanted to talk to their accounting service manager to explain this late billing and the intimidating notice. I was told there was nobody in the office, and they had no way of calling or accessing the billing office in Phoenix. This is just bad business. I would not recommend Desert Villa Dental because of their shotty billing practices.
