This place is an absolute scam. The prices are astronomical, they recommend the most expensive procedures and damage teeth and gums. They find "cavities" so they need to charge more (yes, even on three-year-olds) - please get a second opinion, especially on your children's teeth. Then, they will send you a random bill YEARS after the fact with no information on it and expect you to pay after you've already paid thousands for the "care" that did more damage than you started with. I made an appointment for my biannual cleaning. I haven't been to see them in over 6 months due to being on blood thinners, but just prior to that, I had a deep cleaning. After taking x-rays and consulting with Dr. Bollard, they determined I needed another deep cleaning. So they didn't even do my biannual cleaning since they wanted me to schedule the deep cleaning at a cost to me of $780. I will not be going back. read more

I recently moved from Texas to Arizona. I contacted VFD because I received a card in the mail, welcoming me to the neighborhood and an offer to check out this dental office. Since I needed to find a dentist, close to home, I called, set up an appointment within a couple of days (that's unusual in itself). I had a cleaning, exam and xrays done yesterday. Everyone from the front desk, the dental assistants, the hygienist and the dentist were very friendly, pleasant to deal with but professional. I experienced my first cleaning that was quick and painless. She used a topical in an area that I had sensitivity and it worked.The office was very clean and inviting. I hadn't been to the dentist in a couple of years, but wasn't "shamed" by not going to a dentist. Recommendations were given. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience and I am happy to say I have found a new dentist and one that is less than 10 minutes from my office. Ten Stars. Thank you VFD! read more

Beware of Vail Family Dentistry's lack of concern for their patient's financial well being! After 7 years with this office, they dropped the dental insurance we have and did not tell us until we were in the office for our semi annual check up. We were hit with a deductible that we had never had to pay before. Then the office staff said that maybe we would not owe the deductible, and they would give us a credit. I checked with Delta Dental after we got home. VFD had dropped the PPO insurance we have and only kept the premium version. Why didn't they inform us before our appointment???? We have been going to VFD for the past 7 years, yesterday when we went in for our semi-annual cleaning/check-up they wanted a $200 copay, WTF? we asked them about this because we have never had a copay before, the Office Manager looked me in the eye and told me dental policies changed with the New Year and "we would probably get some credit to apply to our next visit after insurance paid." We checked today and determined our insurance didn't change at all VFD no longer accepts our insurance!! The Bitch looked me in the eye and lied to me! That is despicable! With finding Vail Family Dentistry, I am no longer afraid or upset to visit the dentist! I neglected my dental care for years because of the anxiety and pain it would cause. But, once I visited Dr. Sam Peterson, I started going back regularly. The staff is wonderful and friendly! Dr. Peterson is highly recommended to anyone who experiences anxiety at the dentist; he is super gentle, patient, and understanding. Updating to 3 stars with some hesitation, but for the following reason: Vail Family Dentistry has a new owner that claims to be working hard to improve the place. My family and I have already moved away from the practice but will up the rating a bit in hopes that they can have a good shot at fixing the mess up there. They claim to have dramatically changed the way the business operates. If I could give this dental office zero stars, I would. The manner in which the front office runs the practice is horrifying. They hound you with phone calls at all hours of the day and night reminding you about upcoming appointments, and then insist you call them back to reconfirm. If you have to cancel an appointment for even a legitimate emergency reason the same day -- they pound you with a $35 "missed appointment" fee. My family and I haven't experienced substandard care at Vail Family Dentistry, but their business practices are the worst we've ever experienced from a dentist's office. We called this morning to reschedule an appointment for our daughter, who had a school obligation come up without any warning to us, and they beat us up with a $35 "missed appointment" charge. My wife ended up going in to have her teeth cleaned instead of our daughter just to keep from handing over $35 to this practice for no good reason. Stay away...far, far away, folks. We're finding another dentist as soon as possible. read more

It is a mixed bag. I have had conflicts with what they charge. Exams are supposed to be covered 100% on my plan, yet they have tried to charge me additional fees. This raises some concerns about billing accuracy and integrity. When I have questioned billing they complain that I am responsible for what the insurer doesn't cover. Well in agreeing to accept certain insurance they agree to certain rates. Update 2014- I dropped these clowns. Everytime I went in I was affraid I was going to get charged for some service that suppsoedly wasn't covered, such as exam and cleaning which is 100% covered by my insurance. They mailed me a $20 bill 6 months after the fact, very shady. They tacked on a $35 re-schedule fee. Needless to say I my buisness elsewhere. Only thing keeping these jokers afloat is they are the only dentist in the area. A little bit of a drive there are more options So I revised my original review from 3 to 0. read more

Dr. Donley and the back staff are excellent, my daughters love you guys but the $35.00 missed appointment fee and the rude phone call from the front desk caused me to cancel a new appointment and even look elsewhere for my family's dental needs. If anyone there reads these, recommend that you reconsider the fee or reduce it and dismiss it the charge for people that have emergencies come up. I do not like their dentists over the last couple of years or so. Apparently the dentist that I liked sold the practice back in 2017. Poor bed side manner, they have no "touch" when they're working on you, they don't listen to you, they treat you like an inconvenience, and their work is shoddy...I think I saw Dr. R mostly. Infected root canal due to their negligence that led to a bridge. I had NO tooth pain before the bridge, but have constant deep aching tooth/jaw pain since...about 3 months later. I will have to go to another dentist and/or dental surgeon to get the work fixed. Plus I've had them not be in the office twice at my scheduled appointment. The hygeinists are good and the front desk admins are professional and helpful. read more

After going to this dentist office for 7 years I'm sorry to say I'm finding another dentist. Dr. Donley is great, but this latest newish Dentist who I saw for the first time this week was absolutely horrible, was extremely impatient, wouldn't listen to what I was telling him about my sore teeth and hurt my mouth. He acted like I was a fish hooking his finger into my cheek and pulling my head towards him. I go for a cleaning every 3 months and there is never the same staff at the front desk when I go for my appointment. My hygienist who cleaned my teeth for 6 years and who I loved, finally had enough and quit so I've had 2 different hygienists since as the new one already left. I have high anxiety from a terrible experience as a child, as well as current cancer. First, Crystal, amazing scheduler, very helpful and so kind. Trisha was so gentle when examining my gums and when the dentist came in and my anxiety increased, he, too, was so kind and gentle and understood what I am dealing with and how my emotions affect me. I have come from an hour away and I will gladly continue to come. My whole family now has a dental team that is kind!! Something we haven't experienced. It's funny that everyone that has a negative review seems to have missed their appointment. They are trying to run a business people, and when you don't show up then they just sit around and don't make money. I much prefer these guys to others who overbook and make you sit out front for 30 minutes! We have taken our family of six for years now, and never had a bad experience. This is the first dental office where I've had to bring my kids back for two appointments to get a cleaning. The first for an exam. The second for the cleaning. All dentists I've ever dealt with, and I have moved across the country due to military assignments, do the exam and then the dental hygienist comes in and does the cleaning during the same appointment. They have also charged me missed appointment fees for appointments we did not make. Lastly, we have had difficulty getting cleaning appointments and they have scheduled filling appointments after the exam BEFORE ever cleaning my kids teeth. There are other dentists in the area. I wouldn't waste my time with this practice. The dentists seem nice enough, but the folks up front who run their scheduling are completely clueless and full of excuses. They also do not have enough hygienists on staff to handle regular cleanings. Their primary means of appointments for us have been randomly calling us to see if we could come in in an hour after someone cancels. Not exactly a doable thing when you work 30 minutes away and kids are in school that need the cleanings. read more

Everyone in our family of 6 has been very happy with the care we've received at this practice. They are especially good with kids, taking all the time the child needs to feel comfortable. All of the staff are professional and pleasant, and we've never had any trouble getting appointments. With regard to a comment in another review, our experience is that the practice estimates the patient liability and charges that amount, but if it turns out that the insurance covers more than they thought, they have issued us a credit or refund before we even asked about it. Had a great experience - not sure what others were having issues with. The dentist (Dr. Joe) was amazing and personable and his hygienist was engaging and sweet. My son was booked right after me so the set us up right next to each other and got all our X-rays done fairly quickly. Although I couldn't get my cleaning done the same day - my son did. The front desk staff was very helpful and managed to get me in for a cleaning the next day. I liked them so much I scheduled my 11month old for his first appointment with the pediatric dentist on staff who I also got a chance to meet - he seemed really nice and excited to meet my little one later on in the same week! read more

All seemed OK for the first 2 visits, then the dental hygienist basically refused to clean my teeth on my last visit, stating I needed a deep root cleaning first. (500.00) I returned to my regular dentist to learn, no deep root cleaning necessary. Not a good experience here, keep looking. read more

I love our dentist office! I have been through a few dentists in the Tucson area and I'm here to stay. It's close to our house and the doctors and hygienists are all great. We love Trisha! She always does a great job cleaning our teeth. We've seen both Dr. Dano and Dr. Donnelley and been impressed. Dr. Dano did a really great job on my fillings. She made the procedure less painful than I was expecting and had me on my way in less than an hour. They're pretty conservative on what they want to fill which is a nice change of pace from my previous dentist. We've never had any billing issues. All our cleaning is covered under our policy. Before I get any fillings done they always give me a complete financial worksheet of how much everything costs. This includes the portion of the bill my insurance will pay and the portion that is my responsibility. We're looking forward to Dr. Donnelley's return so we can bring my two year old son there too.
