I came glasses shopping here in late December after shopping at least 5 different glasses retailers around the area that accept VSP insurance. I was having a hard time finding retailers with frame selection in the $100-200 range, many had frames that were much higher in cost. My experiences shopping at other retailers were either with staff that didn't seem interested in helping, or were blatantly trying to upsell more expensive frames and lenses. After an exhausting and last-minute search, I came here and was immediately welcomed by friendly staff who were more than happy to assist in picking out glasses that might look good, despite how busy the end of year rush was. They were really helpful and patient while I went back and forth between a bunch of pairs, and helped me pick out a pair I was happy with that was within my budget. They got my order placed that day. They were ready within the estimated window and the pickup process was easy and I was on my way. Very happy with my new glasses! Would recommend shopping here if you like having a little assistance and if friendly, no-pressure service is important to you!

I've been to Total Vision before but went to the TierraSanta location last time. That was a…read moreheadache and a half, so I'm not going to lie, I came in hesitant. Let me start by saying I had no reason to. This location is nothing like the other. The doctors were great at both locations, but Sports Arena was still better by a landslide. The tech in the beginning was so nice and funny and made the whole start of it easy, even relaxed. I was able to redo my Neurovision test, which I needed for my BVD, binocular vision dysfunction. If you don't know what that is, they explain it well and walk you through your options of treatment, and it's worth it. My motion sickness is finally gone after having it my whole life. Back to the doctor, she was kind and thorough. She made sure I was getting what I needed and gave me options. My insurance covers prism lenses for BVD but not Neurolenses. I've used Neurolenses last time, and they help amazingly, but I wanted to see if the ones my insurance covered would work, so she worked up the numbers for both in case I needed to come back to switch out for the Neurolenses. When she brought me to the front to be helped with getting glasses and going over my insurance with the next person, they both reassured me that if the prisms didn't work, I could bring back my glasses, and the amount I paid would be put towards the other lenses. That was a relief. The gentleman in the front who helped me also helped my husband that day, and he was amazing. He had a freeing vibe that was all his own, and he knew how to read exactly what you wanted. They being frames to you so you don't have to wander. It was a nice surprise to be catered to like that. He made it fun, and the few pieces of feedback given, he took to heart and redirected exactly to what you needed. He found my favorite pair of frames I've ever had. I've gone back and forth from metal to plastic but almost always doing black. Without knowing it, he grabbed a clear pink pair I was eyeing from across the room like he was reading my mind. I'm in love with them. They're the best-fitting glasses I've ever had, which is saying a lot since I have a small head, and most fall off. I've had to get kids' glasses in the past. These were kids' glasses, and they were perfect. He did amazing. Best yet, he did his magic all over again with my husband and got him a pair of frames he loves that he normally would never go for. My husband is a brow glasses guy. This time, with the help of this gentleman and a lot of convincing from his wife, he tried a full frame and loves it. They know what they're doing here. We'll definitely be returning!

I cannot believe I've been wearing ill-fitting glasses for so long when Eleven Optical has been around. If you've got a low nose bridge, almost everything here will fit you so much better than brands that allegedly have low nose bridge styles but they still slide down (coughWarbyParkercough). I also don't really know what style of frames suit my face shape the best, but the super helpful staff here were able to point me in the right direction. Super quick turnaround time as well - I went on a Sunday and had them by Tuesday, but that's only because I needed the 1.67 index lenses which take a little longer and they're closed on Mondays. I think most prescriptions they can turn around within a day, which is amazing. On pick up day, I was able to get my frames adjusted to fit my face. As I understand it, they make as many adjustments as you need if you bring your glasses in. The only minor con is that the parking lot here is the size of a booger, but I was still able to find parking both times. I'll never get glasses anywhere else again!

Turns out that my insurance didn't cover a contact fitting, but whoever was in charge of bringing up my insurance didn't even finalize it until I was mid-way through my appointment and couldn't tell me any details beyond, "there might be an extra charge?" which I received a call about later in the day. Had I known it would be that much more expensive, I wouldn't have gotten the contact fitting.

From the second I walked in the door and was greeted by the A++ office staff I knew this experience was already very different from most of my visits to an optometrist's office. The staff was so friendly and immediately made me feel very comfortable. (These ladies at the front know how to optimize your insurance benefits so make sure to listen to them! Extremely knowledgeable) Dr. Soriano herself was the best optometrist that I have ever had. I am in my later 40 and I have had glasses or contacts since I was 10. The doctor did not make me feel ridiculous for asking questions. She listened to every one of my concerns. She heard me. For me, that is the single most important thing in health care that is missing from most Doctor's office experiences. She heard me and she cared. I had put off going back to the optometrist since my last awful experience where I had a different Dr. tell me that after 40 years my astigmatism just disappeared and made me feel so stupid when I tried to question them. As I was telling her how I thought that the other Dr. was incorrect I broke down crying telling Dr. Soriano I have not been able to see well at night for the last year and how I was made to feel so stupid by the previous doctor for questioning them. Dr. Soriano paused her exam and just listened to me and she promised me that we would find the perfect fit of contacts for my eyes. She also assured me that my astigmatism did not go away and that I would be back to seeing clearly by the end of the exam. I am seeing better and more clearly now than I think I ever had. So to Dr. Sorian and her staff thank you for listening to me and thank you for making me feel so comfortable and feel heard. You are a shining example of how the healthcare industry should treat its patients. Thank you for the best optometry experience I have ever had. read more

1/5 I recently visited Madison Optics with the intention of discussing their services, but my experience before even stepping foot inside was alarming enough to deter me completely. As I was pulling into the parking lot, I witnessed a woman in a grey Honda, who I realized was an employee there almost hit a pedestrian while she was driving and texting. This careless behavior didn't end there; after narrowly missing him, she had the audacity to scream at the poor man when he simply asked her to pay attention while driving! The whole scene left me with incredibly bad vibes about the place. If an employee can't even maintain basic safety standards while driving, how can I trust their professionalism in a healthcare setting? I decided right then and there to not even park and just left. If this is the kind of attitude and driving behavior that represents Madison Optics, I would recommend seeking optometry services elsewhere where safety and respect for others are prioritized. This incident was a glaring red flag, and I won't be returning. read more

I don't know why that one person "shelled" Dr. Chesner but my entire family goes to this optometrist office and we all have different needs. My brother was a courier for the office so he was in the office daily. The guy named John working there at the time offered him a nice deal on new up to date frames to get rid of the out of date frames he had so he took him up on the offer. I saw the frames and decided my next pair would come from that office. My sister and her family liked the service as well as my mom. Dr. Chesner is really nice and always does a thorough exam. The staff is nice and they have a great selection of frames. A very good selection and they are right in the neighborhood so you don't need to go out of your way for glasses or contact lenses. Different price ranges to fit different budgets. You can't ask for anything more. It's not a hughe superstore but the service is more personalized. I can't wait to find another job (with benefits) so that I can go back and get a new pair of glasses. read more

I usually don't write reviews, but I just had to when it comes to this place. Dr. Soriano was highly recommended by a friend, so I decided to make an appointment because they accepted my insurance. Appointment was easy to set up, but when I arrived, I was greeted by one of the ladies. Her name was Klarissa. She was rude and very short. I had a few questions regarding my insurance, but it seemed as if I was bothering her with my questions. I filled out my paperwork and was able to see Dr. Soriano. SHE was great, but when it came to ordering the glasses, I once again met with the same girl from the front. She seemed like she had just hated her job and did not want to be there. Unfortunately, I did not order glasses because I just did not like how I was treated. The other staff seemed pleasant, but I did not interact with them that much. Good luck to Dr. Soriano because she is going to need it. Sadly, I will not be returning. read more

Recently saw Dr. Sariano she was great because Dr. Chesner retired. I have been a patient for over 5 years and was hesitant about the new doctor but she was so easy to talk to. She listens and takes her time with you. BEST EYE EXAM I have ever had!!! I ordered glasses and contacts and Larissa helped me. She wasn't the friendliest. I asked questions about my insurance and she was just short and a bit rude. I needed to order contacts and glasses and didn't know what was the best way to use my insurance. I had to go back to get my contacts and glasses and I was worried because I didn't know how I was going to be treated but the another girl helped me. She sits in the front. She's super nice and took her time fixing my glasses. I just saw Dr. Chesner and was really happy with the exam. I got both contacts and glasses. I was hard to fit for the contacts and Dr. Chesner worked with me over a period of a few weeks to make sure that the contacts fit me correctly and that my vision was as clear as possible. This was the first time any eye doctor did that. Usually they write me a prescription, it gets filled and that's that. Dr. Chesner tried different brands of lenses on me and made sure that everything was fine and that I was happy. The glasses that I got were really cool too - Burberry. I was a happy camper. I couldn't believe that people really nailed him on Yelp. People usually don't write things when they're happy with something, they only want to bitch. Nice guy, they always seem to have some frames that I liked. The people at the desk are really nice too. I don't need glasses anymore, but when I did I would come here for my prescriptions. They always had a few frames that I thought were rad, decent turnaround too. I had a friend who went to lenscrafters to try and save some money, but after having his glasses come out badly twice in a row, he switched over to Doctor Chesner and is way happier too. I had lenses made here that cost over $700 without insurance and had them replaced due to quality control on the labs part and after they failed again, they refused to do another replacement. Kristen insists on interrupting and correcting me on literally what I paid on the lenses which is a moot point considering what they are worth and what insurance covers and how fast they broke down. The lab they use refused to fix their own problem which is the coatings breaking down in less than a year. Avoid this place at all costs or you will be wasting your money.

I always thought that patients that did not get regular cleanings and exams by a Dentist were crazy and did not understand the importance of doing so. Sadly, I was that Optometry patient. Even though I had phenomenal optical coverage that covered my exams and eye glasses(if needed) 100%. Being above average health wise, and never really having any issues with my vision after lasic corrective surgery about 15 years ago, I rarely went in for eye exams. A couple of years ago, I noticed what I know now, are called "floaters" in my vision. These are black dots that can move across your periphery during normal eyesight. I also, noticed a slight "blind spot" with my right eye if I waived my hand around the lower right, while covering my left eye. This went on for a few weeks, and waiting for things to change for the better(as we tend to do) wasn't helping. I scheduled an appointment at my local Lens Crafters in Mission Valley, and Dr. Suljuki was assigned to my exam. To this day, it is by the grace of God that I booked that appointment and was matched up with Dr. Suljuki. It was a Saturday morning appointment. I'll never forget it. She found what is referred to as a "horseshoe tear" in the retina of my right eye. She sounded the alarm with me and stressed the seriousness of this problem. She said I needed to get surgery IMMEDIATELY and sent me DIRECTLY to Shiley Eye Institute. I want from Dr. Suljuki's exam straight to the Institute and began a laser surgery process to fix the tear before it could progress and further. They use a laser to "tack down" the retina back into position. I won't get into any more details of that process, but it involved several more visits to Shiley and several more laser treatments. THIS is how Dr. Suljuki singlehandedly saved my right eye vision. The way she acted and insisted I go straight to the eye surgery Institute without ANY DOUBT saved my vision in that eye. She is very thorough, caring, and truly passionate about the well being of her patients, and her job. I cannot recommend her enough. I am forever grateful to her for her insistence that I go DIRECTLY to surgery, because I was within a few days or mere hours, of a total retinal collapse, which can cause permanent blindness. Don't be me. Get regular eye exams and ask for Dr. Laheqa Suljuki. She is a real-life angel in my book -Christopher Johnsen

Unlike many other aspects of civilian healthcare I've encountered, this business keeps it simple and is not driven simply by $$. I have had several appointments now (as has my fiancé who I referred here, and he loves it too!) and have never waited more than 5 minutes, never felt pressured to buy or upgrade anything and have never felt rushed or dismissed. Every time I am here I feel like the most important person in the room - no exaggeration. Recently I suddenly ran out of contact lenses and realized my prescription expired. Mission Valley Family Optometry got me in for a lens fitting only (didn't try to up charge me to a full exam since I'd had one a few months ago), hooked me up with several trial pairs to get me through AND a prescription for a couple different lenses so I could choose the ones I liked the best. And absolutely zero pressure to buy the lenses from them. I can't say enough good things about this practice and I really wish more people would share their positive experiences on here! If you are a busy human (like me) looking for quick, easy (but thorough), affordable eye care - look no further!

There were no changes to either, yet at checkout I was charged $184, and that's after they said they charged my insurance. I've never paid that much for an eye exam or fitting in my life. This felt like deceptive business practice: staff assured me of a price, then charged a much higher amount without clear explanation. When I raised the issue, the response was unsatisfactory and didn't resolve the overcharge. I would not recommend going here. If you need to, then confirm pricing in writing prior to the exam and double-check the final bill before paying.

It was a challenge going to Costco Mission Valley on a Sunday afternoon (and couldn't find handicapped parking) but the positive experience made it worth it. And, Virginia at the front desk was so upbeat and positive and put out such a happy vibe. The exam was $99 and the additional optional retina scan (which gave great feedback) was $29. $128 total for great peace of mind. I have been to Dr. Slikker myself but I now live further away so now I go to the Costco in Poway.

I went to the private Optometrist in Mission Valley Costco, Robin Slikker, O.D. I had a good exam and went home to try lenses. I found I was just not seeing well, distance nor close with readers. I made another appointment with Dr. Slikker, a few weeks out. Her office called to inquire why I was returning. I nicely said I just couldn't see well and maybe I needed glasses over my lens for driving. The day before my appointment her staff called me to say "Dr. Slikker reviewed your chart and, especially with the cataracts, there's nothing more she can do for you." I was shocked. I was willing to pay for another exam and glasses so I could function! I told the staff person I was very disappointed with her response. They then offered a refund. Yikes, I had never thought of asking for my money back. Of course I let them reimburse my exam costs. So, I made an appointment with Dr. Dinh at the La Mesa Costco office. I scheduled an appointment quickly. He was enthusiastic and skilled. He took my situation as a challenge and worked hard to get me a prescription I could function with. Whew! I can drive safely! I can read up close with my readers again! I am now comfortable. Thank you so much to Dr. Dinh. I would like to add the office staff were so pleasant and courteous.
