I wear computer glasses for work and hadn't replaced them in over 10 years, so I felt it was finally time to use my vision benefits for new glasses by the end of the year. I came glasses shopping here in late December after shopping at least 5 different glasses retailers around the area that accept VSP insurance. I was having a hard time finding retailers with frame selection in the $100-200 range, many had frames that were much higher in cost. My experiences shopping at other retailers were either with staff that didn't seem interested in helping, or were blatantly trying to upsell more expensive frames and lenses. After an exhausting and last-minute search, I came here and was immediately welcomed by friendly staff who were more than happy to assist in picking out glasses that might look good, despite how busy the end of year rush was. They were really helpful and patient while I went back and forth between a bunch of pairs, and helped me pick out a pair I was happy with that was within my budget. They got my order placed that day. They were ready within the estimated window and the pickup process was easy and I was on my way. Very happy with my new glasses! Amazing place! Dr. Esfandiari was very patient and friendly, took his time educating me throughout the entire process of my eye exam. He's pretty thorough and makes sure all of your questions and concerns are taken care of. The people at the front desk were just as kind and patient. They took their time explaining to me what my insurance was offering in terms of discounts and copay. Explained in detail the different options (progressive, high index, etc) regarding my next order for my eyeglasses. I had a challenge with how my eye doctor wrote my prescription and with sorting out reimbursement with my insurance provider. I tried to buy glasses at another store, but they were not willing to help me sort through it and ultimately canceled my order. So, I went to San Diego Optometry, because they have good Yelp reviews and are a VSP Premier network provider. Thankfully, Autumn was very knowledgeable, knew how to rectify the issue with my prescription, and was willing to call VSP to help me sort out the reimbursement. I was pressed for time and Autumn helped me pick out two pairs of glasses and quickly make my purchase. She was very professional in helping me sort out all the options without a heavy, or aggressive sales pitch. Covid review #123 ANOTHER breath of fresh air! Ive found my Optometrist in Clairemont! Since Im no longer in Downtown typically anymore, I needed to find a new optometrist. Last year, 2020, I tried one and I really wasn't very happy with them, but I was giving them a break since it was covid time... but after trying this place in 2021, I realize I was settling... THIS PLACE IS GOOD. SAN DIEGO OPTOMETRY!!! I didn't realize how bad the other place was until I went here. #1 I can see again!!! My rx is correct and now I can see in church, while driving AND at night. The other place I didn't have the same experience blaming my older eyes #2 Doc is personable and real. Efficient, yet not cold. I could have a real conversation with him and he knows what he's doing. #3 Support team is also efficient, real and friendly and helpful! I ordered new glasses and Im happy with how they let me try them on and measured my fit. I strongly recommend seeing Dr. E for your eye health needs. I just moved and needed to find a new eye doctor. It was super easy making an appointment, and the office is doing a great job with covid precautions. There's only one patient in the office at a time, everything is sanitized, and everyone is wearing masks. Dr. E was great! Very knowledge, very friendly, and easy to talk to. Wow - this place is amazing!! I came here for an eye exam to refill a contact lense perscription and potentially get new glasses. I had been having issues with my vision insurance for a while and they handled it seamlessly and professionally. The eye exams were quick and detailed - very thorough. Best optometrist ever! My previous optometrist gave me attitude because I was complaining about how my vision in my eyes differs. And they told me "it's just a slight difference, it isn't that serious". Well to be quite frank, it is serious to me if I'm complaining about it because I would like to maximize my eyesight with contacts and glasses as much as I can. If you want to know who my previous optometrist is, send me a message and I'll tell you so you can avoid them too LOL. Anyways, I walked in and it was super big and spacious, and I was greeted upon entry by the receptionist. It was my first time here and check-in was superrr easy. They're trying to go paperless, so you check-in on an iPad for less than 5min and by the time I was done, Dr.E was ready to see me! Dr.E was super friendly, personable, and funny which is things that I always look for in any of my healthcare providers just because it makes the experience a whole lot better. I told Dr.E about my complaints regarding my previous optometrist and he took those into account and told me what I had thought, that my eyes were different and needed different contact lenses for each of them, not the same one. It was really nice to finally have someone that listened to my concerns and took them into account. Dr.E is also superrr encouraging when you're doing all your eye testing. He kept telling me good job and that I was doing great, especially with that puff test since I really struggle with that. I had an excellent experience. I understand what's happening with my eyes so much better after my appointment Dr. Jordan Pinozek. I didn't need far-sighted/ astigmatism vision correction until I was in my 30s so glasses sucked. I used contacts for awhile then had unsuccessful PRK surgery and was told by another Dr. that I would have to use the hard contacts or glasses. Dr Pinozek was great she provided a great education about what was happening to my aging eyes (42 y/o) she provided 3 options for vision correction and after discussing my issues and what I do for a living, high tech field service, we went with a correction plan that would help me read schematics without interfering with driving. Hopefully I'll be able to start reading for pleasure again. So far my eyes are far less fatigued at the end of the day. I got a Friday afternoon appointment 3 Fridays out, but I was able to take a cancelled slot the Friday before by calling day of. I paid $99 for contact and eye glass prescription, using the Yelp offer. They also have very cute frames, but I get a free one from the VA every 2 years. Only complaint Is limited hours M-F 8-5. read more

I am retired and of the age that presbyopia is a huge problem with my vision. I am slightly farsighted but both eyes also have a non-negligible amount of astigmatism. I have been wearing glasses for 30 some years but recently I purchased a new camera with an electronic viewfinder (EVF) and my glasses prevent me from seeing the data displayed inside the viewfinder around the edges of the display. Very disappointing. So I though I would give contacts a try. I had low expectations. But Dr. Esfandiari took up the challenge and worked with me and, after three different trial pairs from three different manufacturers, we found a solution (Bausch + Lomb Ultra Multifocal for Astigmatism) that is surprisingly good. These contacts solve my photography problem and, indeed, I can wear these for general use. One "test" I came up with was to go to a foreign language movie that had subtitles. I was surprised to discover that I forgot I had contacts on! Only for long sessions at the computer would I want to revert to glasses. I sincerely appreciate Dr. Esfandiari's upbeat and optimistic attitude and his long experience in fitting contacts. I would recommend him in a heartbeat to anyone who is looking for contacts for the first time or maybe thinks their current contact prescription/manufacturer choice needs revisiting; the technology is always improving. His office is relaxed, low pressure, and well-run. read more

I mentioned that I had an "allergy to latex" and he knew instantaneously what I really meant in order to prescribe me the right contact lenses. The receptionist, Martin I believe is his name, did a really great job of explaining my insurance plan to me, verifying some clarifications I had, and continued to make sure that I was getting the most out of my plan. It was very encouraging to work with him. Additionally, being treated by Dr. Esfandiari was great! He provides some of the best patient care I've ever experienced. He as very energetic, positive, encouraging, and humorous! I'm only in San Diego at the moment for graduate school but I would add this optometry office as a factor to try and stay when I'm done. This is by far the best optometry office I've ever been to! Dr. E and the other doctors here are hands down the kindest, most caring, and INCREDIBLY PATIENT people who GENUINELY care about their patients. Over the summer I was healing from a broken ankle, so I think my immune system was a bit suppressed from that, making me more prone to eye infections and what not. I was also towards the end of writing my first book and was spending hours on end staring at the computer. That, along with the stress I was under at that time, only made things worse. I went to my primary care doctor for prescription eye drops (thinking it was just a typical case of pink eye or whatnot) but after two to three weeks, my eyes were still acting up. So I decided to visit San Diego Optometry who I had seen a couple times over the years for glasses and whatnot, and the service I received was absolutely amazing. I had both a bacterial and viral infection, and they made sure to get me on the right medicated drops this time, which helped these infections clear up. Yet, due to all the computer screen time and stress, I was still experiencing really dry and "angry" eyes so the doctors went above and beyond not just on that first visit, but for weekly visits for over 6 weeks!!!! They never charged me for those followup visits, they truly just wanted to check-in on the status of my healing because it was a pretty bad case that required a solid care regimen to get things back to normal. One of the doctors even came in on her day off to make sure I could be seen before I had to fly out of town. They went the extra mile for me in so many ways -- giving me plenty of trial one-day contacts for the days I couldn't wear my glasses (like on my best friend's wedding) until my eyes were healthy enough to finally finish that part of my eye exam and officially update my prescription in order to order new contact lenses and glasses. Once I was able to do so, one of the sweet girls on the staff spent all the time I needed, helping me pick out a pair of glasses that were super comfortable and best fit my face shape. They have an awesome selection to choose from in various price ranges, so you can find something that works within your budget. The staff is so helpful and knowledgable, and are happy to give their honest feedback when you're trying out glasses. I never once spent pressured to spend more money or anything like that. I recommend this place to anyone and everyone! You couldn't be in better hands. I also love that they open earlier than most places (8am) so I could stop in before work. And their scheduling system is awesome in that they send you reminder texts or emails! I highly recommend this practice! For starters, they are dog friendly. SOLD! The optometrists are super professional and thorough, after having glasses for about a decade I finally feel like I have a good pair! One that really addresses my issues and looks good, too. How have I been to eye doctors for a decade to only just now find out after my appointment that I have an astigmatism in both eyes? And it's likely been the source of a lot of my troubles? I think the best part, though, is that they offer a machine alternative to having your eyes dilated. I'm not familiar with the terminology, but it was like looking into a bright light for about 5 seconds and it was over! The girl in the front of office who helps pick out and adjust frames is also awesome! She was honest and extremely helpful.
