I've been a New Optix customer for a few years now and I've had great experiences each time. Located in a corner spot in Kearny Mesa with a decent amount of parking but the parking spaces are pretty small. The place is very clean. Most recently, I came in for an eye exam, contacts fitting, dilation, and pictures. Dr. Thai was thorough in her assessments, addressed my concerns, and patiently answered my questions. It's a bonus when her dog Olive is around! Kieu assisted me for the rest of the appointment to discuss contact lenses and help me order a new pair of glasses. She was very patient with me and gave me time to decide which contacts to choose. She followed up with me within a week and had been my point of contact throughout the process. What I appreciate about this place is that they are transparent about costs and they do not pressure you to buy contacts from them. My glasses were ready in a week and a half and thankfully, the contact lenses I chose were stocked in their office. I'll continue coming to New Optix! read more

[[HIGHLIGHT]]While personnel have a nice demeanor, I wouldn't personally return as my go-to optometrist.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My original prescription glasses were just fine and the doctor increased the prescription slightly. In comparing now, feel it was unnecessary. Secondly, they have a form to sign if you want to opt in or not to dilate your eyes. While I don't mind the extra $30, the doctor was trying to upsell me into coming for a follow-up visit for having dandruff in my eyelashes when that can be mitigated with an OTC product. It was at this point, the trust trying to instill was lost because attempting add ons here and there doesn't come off as genuine. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I shared I'm not into brand frames, the other lady mentioned stores carry only brand frames, which isn't true.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My last 2 optometrist had generic frames - so I got the print of my prescription, went back to my old doctor (30min away) and he reassured me that what was seen in my eyelashes wasn't necessary for a follow-up visit since my condition was not severe. I was in a bad way on Saturday - I had scratched my eye in my sleep and needed to be seen urgently that same morning. My eyes were recently checked at another location within the same company, and everything was perfectly fine. At that visit, I mentioned that because I work with computers, I simply wanted blue light lenses added to a pair of glasses I planned to purchase, and they were more than happy to accommodate that. However, I decided to go to a different location closer to my job, and that is where the issues began. I purchased my glasses on my own and brought them in specifically to have blue light added. When I first dropped them off, the staff added a magnification ("zoom") effect without my request, stating that it was required by law--something that made me feel very uncomfortable, as I never asked for magnification and had no prior indication that I needed it.When I returned to pick up my glasses, I noticed that the left temple was tighter than the right and that there was visible damage. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The staff insisted that this was how the glasses originally came, but I know my Chrome Hearts frames did not come damaged or unevenly fitted.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Additionally, at the beginning of the appointment, I was asked to sign a waiver stating that the company would not be responsible for any damage because the glasses are expensive. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I asked for a copy of that document later, they were unable to provide it.Overall, I do not feel that I received the level of care that I should have. We are new to San Diego and I needed to find a new eye doc. I have a couple new diagnoses that can have an affect on my vision, so I wanted someone knowledgeable and thorough. Dr. Tran and his team were great. I was taken back and seen quickly. Everything was thoroughly explained, during the exam, to where I could understand it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The woman who helped me with glasses purchase was thorough with explaining my insurance, what they covered and the different options. Normally, offices try to upsell but there was no pressure with that - which I appreciated.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The only complaint (if you can call it that) was that the technician that was doing all of my scans and such, clearly had something going on with the all the sniffles and coughs. It could have been something like allergies, but as someone immunocompromised (and was wearing a mask), it would have been great to have had the courtesy for her to wear one as well. My dog chewed up a pair of prescription glasses and I panicked looking for a temporary solution and after calling 4-5 places, I'm so glad i found New Optix Optometry. Disclaimer that one of the main doctors in New Optix privately reached out to me on Yelp to update my review since my initial update. It has been awhile since my previous review and for good reasons. I like to be thoughtful when I can when I write my reviews since businesses rely on online presence quite alot. To summarize what transpired since my previous review: While I truly appreciate Dr. Tran fully comping my lenses in November and apologizing to me, along with their office manager at the time also apologizing to me, I decided to no longer be a patient at New Optix. I despise being lied to, regardless of what setting it's in or the reasons. It does come down to point of view, and my point of view when it all happened was that I was slighted and this staff member had an option to fix their mistake, but they did not. Then, I had to find out about their mistake another way (through the 3rd party vendor they use/used called Marlo). The cherry on top was that this staff that canceled my order (even though they said they were not allowed to do cancellations) did not apologize to me personally. If they did, this second update would have a different tune to it. I know I can name drop, which is what I am seeing in these most recent Yelp reviews. This person's name has been mentioned multiple times but, my experience with this specific front office staff was lacking and disappointing. The recent reviews have the opposite to say about this same staff member. If it's true, then I am glad they have improved and are providing excellent customer service that their clients deserve. I have receipts and photos I can attach to backup my claims. However, I respect the doctors here and their established business. The most I can do is update this to a 3-star review. It was a bit of a hard decision for me to do this since I was a patron for several years at New Optix. However, I have since moved on to a different optometrist office and I'm glad I did. After the back-to-back issues I experienced between 2021 and 2022, I didn't want to risk receiving subpar customer service again, as well as being treated any differently by their staff considering what has happpened with me. No hard feelings on my end. To err is human after all. I only wish the best of luck to Dr. Tran and Dr. Ta, and I sincerely hope that this office staff member has improved their customer service skills since my last encounter with them. read more

[[HIGHLIGHT]]I had made an APPOINTMENT to see an optometrist here that was DIRECTLY CONFIRMED over the telephone with one person on the SUPPORT staff, who has been there for years.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] BUT [[HIGHLIGHT]]On the day of the appointment, and only minutes before the appointment, I received a text message saying that the appointment was NOT confirmed![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] INCREDIBLE! [[HIGHLIGHT]]I had arranged my life for this very necessary appointment because I was unable to read on my laptop screen and I had troubles reading books.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] NEXT, I went to the New Optix Optometry anyway and I discovered that the optometrist I had made the appointment to see was PRESENT! [[HIGHLIGHT]]NEXT, over the following 10 days, I emailed the owner/Optometrist about this issue, BUT he IGNORED my email until he received my THIRD RE-submission of the same ema[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]il[[HIGHLIGHT]] 10 DAYS LATER ! He said he would look into this with [[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]his support staff. The Optometrists here are likely ok, but I ultimately found out that NVISION is likely the best, because NVISION does a 2 hour THOROUGH exam instead of a standard under one hour exam. My vision problem was finally resolved ELSEWHERE by Optometrist: Dr. Deborah Haug in Encinitas who has long experience and many 5-star reviews. She gives a 2 hour THOROUGH exam. I COULD have gone to the NVISION Optometry in the North Park area, which ALSO does a 2 hour exam, and who likely has fine Optometrists, and there I would likely also have had a good experience. read more

I'm impressed by the whole scene at New Optix -- the waiting area is gorgeous, with beautiful fish in a tank (hi Dory!) and comfortable. Three doctors took care of me in turn. I thought the tests were so smartly set up; for example, three devices on a table, and one can just scoot the stool to the next one. I could see that each doctor read everything in the chart before talking to me, and they got everything right. I'm very happy with how it went and will be going back for sure. read more

I went to New Optix Optometry for an eye exam with Dr. Amanda Thai, and it ended up being a very disappointing experience. During the exam, they recommended dilating my eyes and warned me about the side effects, such as blurry vision and light sensitivity, which I expected. Those side effects went away as they said, but later that night, my eyes started to feel watery. By the next day, my eyes had turned red. When I contacted the office to schedule a follow-up visit, they insisted on charging me $90 out of pocket, showing no empathy or care for the situation. They kept telling me to wait a few days, but my concern was dismissed, and they failed to recognize this as an urgent issue. Instead, they seemed more focused on discouraging me from coming in by adding an office visit fee rather than taking responsibility for the potential effects of the dilation. Afterward, I waited to see if they would at least follow up with me to check on how I was doing, but nope--I never heard back from them. That just confirmed to me that they didn't care about my situation at all. This was the only thing that could've caused an issue with my eyes, and I eventually had to go to urgent care for treatment. Even the nurse there asked why I didn't go back to my eye doctor, and when I explained the $90 charge, they agreed that it shouldn't have happened. Because of this, I won't be returning to New Optix Optometry. I'll be seeking care from a provider who values patients and their well-being over profit. I highly recommend others be cautious about visiting Dr. Amanda Thai--everything is fine until there's a problem, and when there is, they won't take responsibility. read more

I wish I could share the positive experiences others have had, but unfortunately, my experience with this optometry clinic has been extremely disappointing. I visited the clinic on January 31, 2025, and ordered prescription glasses with all the upgrades (transitions, coatings, etc.). The clinic itself was nice, and the staff seemed friendly at first. I was told my glasses would arrive within 2-3 weeks--a reasonable timeframe. Fast forward to March 10, 2025, and I still don't have my glasses. I followed up multiple times, and each time, I was given different excuses: On Feb 24, they said insurance approval takes 1-2 weeks (understandable) and that the glasses would take another 2 weeks to manufacture. Then, after waiting patiently, i called again today March 10th. I was told that my glasses were shipped on Feb 28th, was supposedly delivered to the store on March 5th, but the store just found out it was missing and would take another 1-2 weeks to remake. At this point, I asked for a refund, at least partial one for the out-of-pocket expenses that I paid for because the insurance couldn't cover, but they refused to issue one. They just want me to wait again. No real accountability, just delays and excuses. If you want to get the product you ordered and paid for ($400++), I highly recommend going elsewhere. read more

This is where I get my annual eye exam and for years it hasn't changed. The Doctor's really take time to get to know you and cares about your vision. Dr. Ta and Tran are both awesome people. Super clean, sanitation is on point especially with Covid. No walk in from my understanding, you need to make an appointment. The employees here today are all new but they are nice, friendly, knowledgeable and I love how they want to get to know you as well. Thank you Eugene, Q and Jordan.
