She's also super easy to work with and made the inquiring and signing process easy. We actually signed the lease without viewing in person so that says a lot about the great impression we had of the apartment complex! We can only speak for our unit, but it was clean, spacious, renovated, and had more than enough space for 2 people. Good location, would recommend to friends and family. We were quite sad to leave!

The doors to the stairwell are so heavy that they shake the entire corridor and building when they open and close. I believe one of the most striking features of these apartments is the square footage you get for the price. You would be hard pressed to find a 1-bedroom between 700-950 square feet for less than what is charged here on the peninsula or in this area, ask me how I know!! The units also have ample closet space (my 1 bedroom has FOUR closets (not even including the kitchen storage) and a large lockable carport storage box. In addition, the kitchens here are huge with more storage space than you'll know what to do with (usually apartments at this price range have the opposite problem). The community is also well maintained with great landscaping + the entire community received a fresh coat of paint in the summer and fall of '23. Maintenance requests are also a breeze and anything you request gets taken care of relatively quickly! The cherry on top is definitely the management. Jennifer, Ane, and Kelly are extremely responsive to all questions and problems we have, not to mention accommodating and understanding when it comes to getting other things worked out. They are the best! My only complaint is that there is no W/D in most of the units, but for the price that is not surprising! Echoing what I said above, you are not finding a unit with W/D with this square footage in this area for less than $2,500 unless your mom's friend's cousin cuts you a deal on their second property . Anyway, big takeaways are that the units here are huge, the community is well maintained, and the management is fantastic. Save yourself some time and check this place out! PS, for the cat lovers out there, they only charge a one time $1,000 per deposit for the entire time you live there (for up to two cats). Its address has score of 91 out of 100 for walking and 83 for biking according to walkscore.com. It has Whole Foods and Safeway literally across the street. Great variety of restaurants (some of them are open late and one doughnut place is even 24/7). Caltrain station and stadium within 5-6 minutes of walk. Everything that Downtown Redwood City has to offer within 10-15 minute walk. 2. Apartments are truly spacious. Even if you exclude utility parts of the apartment such as kitchen, bathroom and hallway you still end up with a living area with widths approximately 15 feet and length over 20 feet. We could easily fit a queen bed, Ikea's table for 4 with chairs, a sofa, working table with chair, a dresser and there was still enough room left to be able to exercise and rotate hula hoop and there never was a feeling of a "tight space". This apartment spoiled us because when we were looking for the next one it was not easy to find an apartment with big enough living area. 3. There are two towers in the complex and I lived in the one that faces South-West. I can assert that apartments in that tower on the middle and top floors receive generous amount of natural light and are very bright. This, unfortunately, makes them hot in summer because there is no A/C. 4. Managers and other staff members have always been nice and great to work with. For example they never begin loud work before 9 am. 5. Our move-out experience was smooth and pleasant. Partially it is likely because we lived longer than 36 months there and had some of the potential fees waived. Things I wish were better: 1. Pool is not heated. It is not exposed to direct sunlight and we could swim there on a particularly hot summer days only. 2. I wish the complex was pet friendly. 3. The walls are averagely thin. Your experience depends purely on the luck. We had one upstairs neighbor between 2016 and 2017 who was stomping very loudly. They were so loud that sometimes neighbors from left or right side of that apartment would have to knock their walls. But when they moved out neither of the next occupants bothered us. Before moving in, we toured 6 other apartments in San Mateo, and I can honestly say that Westwood was the best option. Here are my reasons: PROS: - Shorter-term leases were available, and renewal options were flexible. - Rent was relatively affordable, especially considering the square footage. All the other one-bedroom apartments we visited were significantly smaller than Westwood. Some were tiny and more expensive. The one-bedroom unit we stayed in had plenty of storage space and a huge closet, which is really rare, especially in newer rental complexes. - A great on-site property manager! I've lived in rental apartments for 15 years, and she is one of the best managers a renter can ask for. She is very on top of things and always greets everyone with a smile. She made sure the public areas were tidy and clean and even put up nice decorations by the main entrance during the holiday season. - During my time there, our neighbors were respectful and very quiet. Sometimes, we wouldn't see a single neighbor for weeks. There were no loud parties or anything wild. I'm in my 30s, and most of our neighbors were also slightly older. So if you value quietness, this is a good place for you too. - The location is convenient, right in front of a small shopping center with a grocery store, a Rite Aid, and a few food options, all within a super short walk. - While the building itself is old, our unit was renovated and the living room had hardwood floors, which I much prefer over carpet. - Safety. I felt very safe the entire time we were there. Also worth mentioning, none of our packages delivered here were stolen. That was one of my worries before moving in, but it did not happen at all. Also, neighbors were very considerate; most of the time, people would help each other by putting their packages inside instead of letting them sit by the front building door. CONS: - As mentioned earlier, the building is old. There is an elevator, but it's very slow and tiny. We lived on the top floor but always used the stairs instead. It was honestly faster than riding the elevator. - Because the building is old, the insulation is not the best. While our neighbors were respectful and quiet, I could sometimes hear conversations from the next door in our bedroom or hear someone chatting in the hallway from our kitchen. It wasn't too crazy since no one was loud, but it showed how poor the insulation is. - There was a beautiful tree right in front of our unit that blocked all the natural sunlight from coming in. If natural lighting is something you value, you might want to consider a unit facing away from the shopping center instead. I've seen one of the top floor units facing the back parking lot. It does have great natural sunlight. Overall I highly recommend living at this apartment. We also got nearly the full amount of our security deposit back, minus the carpet cleaning fee only (carpet in our bedroom). If I remember correctly it was $120, so seriously not bad at all.

Being right opposite to Laurelwood shopping center, you can get all your shopping done by walking. Apartment is safe. In our one year stay, there was not even one security issue. I pretty much forgot to lock my doors. Laundry on all floors. Basement parking. Additional parking outside. swimming pool ( though not usually clean). Cons - The apartment is old. The rent is very high for such an old apartment. The insulation between floors are really bad. You can hear the footsteps. We stayed in second floor apartment with 2 kids. The neighbor below us harassed about the noise of the kids running. It was like walking on eggshells trying to stop a one year old and a three year old from running. We were waiting for our lease to be over to move out. THEY DONT RETURN THE ENTIRE SECURITY DEPOSIT. When we moved out, we had left the house super clean ( even cleaning the door frames and fans). We even painted the walls and called in a professional carpet cleaner to clean the carpets. After all that, we received only half of our security deposit. There was a small ink stain in living room. For that they changed the entire apartment's carpet and charged us half of it. And an additional 300$ for cleaning. Have you stayed in a place where you feel somebody is always watching you? Thats what I have to say about the manager Tammy. She is on top of all the things thats happening in the apartment which can be good and bad. If your kid throw a toy or paper from the balcony, you can expect a call from Tammy. If you leave your carseat in the parking garage even for five mins, you can expect a call from Tammy.
