Great park but super dusty and the watering area has water all over the concrete near the bowl so the dogs that like to fetch and get full of dirt then go where the water is and get kind of muddy. A nice big park but dogs get super dirty. Feels pretty safe here too. read more

The dog park itself was nice. I'm new to the area so I went off the reviews and decided to try it out. I went earlier today around 3 pm. It was just me and my dog in the park at the time and I was reading my book, enjoying the day and a bum walked in alone (no dog). There were like 12 free benches and a free picnic table. It was just me on a bench alone (I'm a young female) and he walked right up to me, pulled down his pants and sat right next to me on the only taken bench. Needless to say, I got the hell out of there. Just a warning to be careful. As I was leaving I saw a few homeless peoples sleeping on the nearby benches and idk, I just didn't get a safe feeling. Loved the double gate security on the entrances so it allows you to come in and if dogs from the inside come they don't get out. There's also a water pump that fills a water bowl and where it sprays to wash your hands/ wash something. Plenty of running space and provides poop bags. read more

This park is one square block just east of the downtown Baptist Hospital. It has paved walkways cut diagonally through it, so you can get to the four corners. The few times I've been here, it's been relatively dog-free. I have to say though, it is a pleasant little spot. read more

I recently moved back to the downtown/Southtown area and have since acquired the love of my life, Wasabi, my happa Havanese mutt pup. (see picture & try not to fall in love) Anywayyyy this fool is FULL of energy, as he should be being about 1 yo. I used to live closer to the RIM and would take him to Phil Hardberger or Mystic Park. Both those places have small and large sides. Wasabi is a medium pup who needs large dog companionship #iheardthat Madison Square Dog Park is clean, small enough for little dogs, and big enough for the big dogs. It has multiple double door entrances (3), benches, picnic tables, shade, and trashcans. It even has strategically placed fire hydrants. Super cute. Everyone is super friendly and OMG PEOPLE ACTUALLY PICK UP THEIR DOG SHHHT! Thank God because Phil Hardberger is a land mine. I loved it there because of the trees from the shade, but my shoes hated it there. I actually now wish I leased with Cadillac Lofts just so I could be closer to Madison Square dog park. THE ONLY RESERVATION I have is (and who could regulate this anyway?) is that there are some bums in the area.... because it's downtown. I came to Madison Square Dog Park not realizing it was a dog park. I just wanted a place to enjoy my morning coffee and walk a bit, and perhaps sit under a tree. What I thought from a distance was a children's play area turned out to be a gated DOG play area! There were lots of people with dogs in there. This was my first time at a dog park. Here I witnessed dogs who were treated lovingly as the fur babies that they are. It's nice to know that the City of San Antonio honors dogs in this way. read more

This park is great! You DO have to pay for parking but there's so many areas to park and it's only .30 cents for 1 hour which is incredibly cheap! The meter does accept card and coins! No bills. There aren't any dog obstacles but a big area to run and tons of trees and benches!! A combination of mulch, dirt, and grass and a good sidewalk area too! This park is great! My dog Mocha is my very best friend. She is the love of my life, a beautiful chocolate brown lady that I try to spoil at every opportunity. Then on top of all of that adorableness, my roommate has a little terrier as well and the two together tag-team dog parks and games of catch all over the Alamo City with their rambunctious, mind bogglingly cute ways. So, the roommate and I are always looking for ways to rid these babies of their energy and this dog park had been calling our names for a while. It's minutes from our house, which is a plus. It's totally fenced and actually a fairly good sized park space considering its urban surroundings. Serenely quiet and low key, this park is a wonderful spot to bring your pets to run off some energy, or in the case of our corgi, socialize and relax. The park is clean with water fountains and disposal bags/bins readily available. We greatly appreciated having a spot to bring our boy to get him out of our hotel room during our trip to San Antonio. read more

I still do not understand why the city would allow for kids to go into the dog parks, it's so unfortunate that the kids come in with poor supervision and run rampant in here , not every dog that is rescued is kid friendly. This is a DOG PARK not a petting zoo or a kid playground. Is there a petition that can get started where kids are not allowed in the parks at all, like any of them throughout San Antonio? Such a liability on everyone's part when you start bribing kiddos into the mix, there are way too many dog personalities to already be ready and on the look out for let alone now watching other people's kids. This dog park is A-OK but probably my least favorite of SA dog parks. There are no obstacles for the dogs and it's basically a T-shaped walkway with not much to see. I will say that the people were very friendly and chatty and the location is great. This is a nice place to stretch your legs and walk your fur baby around when he/she needs some relief. Restroom-wise and socially! My favorite thing about this dog park is that the trash cans are not stinky or overflowing with poop bags, and there is a lovely view of the less hustle-and-bustle part of downtown. read more

This is a great (the only?) downtown dog park - here's why: 1) Location: Madison Square Dog Park is easily accessible off the highways that run through the west side of downtown by the Pearl. There is plenty of metered parking around the park (never full). Free side street parking can also be found. The park has town north-side entrances and one on the south, for convenience in parking and entering. 2) Space: The park is definitely big enough for dogs to get a good run or catch in, but small enough to allow owners to keep a close eye on the dogs. There is a shaded bench area and a sunny one allowing patrons to spread out and enjoy whatever amount of sun they desire. However, the benches are annoyingly close to the only trash cans, so if you want to sit, it is near smelly garbage. 3) Amenities: There is one water fountain, and it is surrounded by dirt, so mud typically ensues after dogs rush to their only water source. The water is too close to one of three entrances, so there is usually a dog or too that slobbers over people trying to enter/leave. read more

I cannot adequately describe how much I love this park. I live in an apartment north of downtown and have a very energetic (borderline insane at times) shepherd/husky mix. I started coming here a few weeks ago and it has helped her so much. It gets most if that crazy energy out and allows me a quiet(er) evening when we get home. The people have been amazing, especially since the first time I brought her she hid under a bench the whole time, always pretty understanding and helpful. You can tell they love their dogs. The dogs are the best, it's so fun to see all the different breeds and personalities running around. It's pretty large, has double gates in 3 places, baggies and trash cans and a water fountain with a low bowl attached. Really, this place has been keeping me sane lately, as my dog seems to have stopped crawling on the ceiling and trying to chew electrical wires in a bid to escape the apt. read more

Madison Square Park is absolutely my favorite doggie park....EVER!!! MY FURBABIES and I have been going for about 1year, and have made some great acquaintances there. My furbabies are always so happy there and have also made some furry friends. The park has wonderful natural shade, great grass, a wonderful breeze, and is both big enough to allow the babies to run, and close enough to be in site. Nestled somewhere within the hustle and bustle of downtown, you'll find this quiet oasis suited perfectly for our furry little friends. Madison square park is situated near a part of town that wouldn't immediately strike you as up and coming, but the intelligently placed street names remind me of my hometown of NYC.
