Loved the double gate security on the entrances so it allows you to come in and if dogs from the inside come they don't get out. There's also a water pump that fills a water bowl and where it sprays to wash your hands/ wash something. Plenty of running space and provides poop bags.

I recently moved back to the downtown/Southtown area and have since acquired the love of my life, Wasabi, my happa Havanese mutt pup. (see picture & try not to fall in love) Anywayyyy this fool is FULL of energy, as he should be being about 1 yo. I used to live closer to the RIM and would take him to Phil Hardberger or Mystic Park. Both those places have small and large sides. Wasabi is a medium pup who needs large dog companionship #iheardthat Madison Square Dog Park is clean, small enough for little dogs, and big enough for the big dogs. It has multiple double door entrances (3), benches, picnic tables, shade, and trashcans. It even has strategically placed fire hydrants. Super cute. Everyone is super friendly and OMG PEOPLE ACTUALLY PICK UP THEIR DOG SHHHT! Thank God because Phil Hardberger is a land mine. I loved it there because of the trees from the shade, but my shoes hated it there. I actually now wish I leased with Cadillac Lofts just so I could be closer to Madison Square dog park. THE ONLY RESERVATION I have is (and who could regulate this anyway?) is that there are some bums in the area.... because it's downtown. I won't go on a diatribe about mentally ill bums, but you never know what could happen. #paranoidAF I don't stay late by any means at the dog park, but just forewarning you if you're weird about i!

I came to Madison Square Dog Park not realizing it was a dog park. I just wanted a place to enjoy my morning coffee and walk a bit, and perhaps sit under a tree. What I thought from a distance was a children's play area turned out to be a gated DOG play area! There were lots of people with dogs in there. This was my first time at a dog park. Here I witnessed dogs who were treated lovingly as the fur babies that they are. It's nice to know that the City of San Antonio honors dogs in this way.

My dog Mocha is my very best friend. She is the love of my life, a beautiful chocolate brown lady that I try to spoil at every opportunity. Then on top of all of that adorableness, my roommate has a little terrier as well and the two together tag-team dog parks and games of catch all over the Alamo City with their rambunctious, mind bogglingly cute ways. So, the roommate and I are always looking for ways to rid these babies of their energy and this dog park had been calling our names for a while. It's minutes from our house, which is a plus. It's totally fenced and actually a fairly good sized park space considering its urban surroundings. Like any dog park should, it has bags and water available for you pooches and a double-entry gate to make sure you don't lose your dogs on the way in and out.

Serenely quiet and low key, this park is a wonderful spot to bring your pets to run off some energy, or in the case of our corgi, socialize and relax. The park is clean with water fountains and disposal bags/bins readily available. We greatly appreciated having a spot to bring our boy to get him out of our hotel room during our trip to San Antonio.

    Auri meeting some handsome friends.

BLUF: Downtown gem, if you have a dog, bring them, they'll love it and so will you. Great drink…read morespecials, coffee, and food truck on site. As a downtown dog owner, I really can't say enough good things about this place. My apartment has a small fenced in dog "park" but it pales in comparison to the offering here at Hops and Hounds. They have a big and small dog area, and during peak hours there's a park attendant monitoring dog behaviors and keeping the area clean and safe. All of them are very attentive. Don't have a dog? Still a great place to hang out and have a drink. They have several beers on draft, with rotating taps, all of the in-demand can options, and a full bar. They also recently added a coffee and pizza venue. Love the coffee, but I haven't tried the pizza yet so I can speak to its quality. Weekly drink specials, of note are Margarita Mondays and Tap it Tuesday. The Monday offering is savings on their delicious margaritas, and the Tuesday offering is savings on any of their draft beers. Things worth knowing ahead of time: The dog park isn't free, you have to download an app, and make an account even for a day pass. The day pass is $5, but there's a monthly pass for $25 that is worth it if you live in the area. Children under 18 aren't allowed in the dog park, for their safety and the dogs, which I appreciate. On weekends there's a staffed bar that you can order drinks from without leaving the enclosed dog area. No on-site parking, but there's a paid lot adjacent to their property, and earlier in the day you can parallel park on the street for free. (Street parking is always free, but there's rarely open spots during peak hours) They have a food truck on site, Benjie's Munch Truck is a mainstay, and sometimes they have a second food truck.

I was between going here and the place next door but I liked the music better here better. I did a lap around then sat at the bar. I was quickly asked what I would like but I requested the menu. The menu does not have proxies but when I asked they said cocktails are $9-11, well drinks $6.50. I got the regal beagle. I'd be willing to bet the price of the drink that there wasn't more than 1/2 drop of alcohol in it lol. But it was SWELTERING so I didn't really need to be tipsy anyway. They let me put my pup on th chair next to me which was next to a "big ass fan" that did a great job of moving air. I went over to benji's food truck and got a patty melt and upgraded for ~$3 to fries. The fries were good and piping hot. Patty melt was just ok. Luckily the $18 meal was huge and I got a to go box to eat the rest later. I then took my dog over to the dog park where he played his heart out with some new friends. By this time it had cooled down a lot and there was plenty of water around. They also have a Fi collar station and you can check rankings for your dog but it's based on number of visits, not steps. I closed my tabs and we left through the back directly onto the riverwalk and walked back to our hotel. Perfect end to a perfect day.

The paths themselves are not difficult at all and plenty of spots to stop and sit at if needed. They have this pond in the middle of the park that had so many ducks and turtles. It was a nice view and enjoyed it very much. I saw many people there with picnics and also someone doing yoga in front of this building i thought was cool. They had these really cool korean buildings/monuments that someone build (artists from Korea but look up the city parks for more details). You can't step inside them but very beautiful to look at. For sure a place worth visiting to just sit and relax at if you like.

They have a half mile loop that you can take around the pond. The pond is cute and it had ducks. I like the Korean pavilion located by the pond. You can go there for a quick walk or do a few laps around the half mile loop. You can also take your food and have a picnic under the shade of the trees. Parking is available on site and there's plenty of it. The entrance is on one side and the exit is on the other side. There are restrooms available on site, but I didn't use them, so I don't know if they were clean. I would definitely return when I want a short walk in a shaded park.

I have a 20-pound Frenchie that thinks he's a Great Dane, Diesel. He gets along fine in the big…read moredogs area, which is really the only area used by 90% of folks for dogs big and small alike. Diesel loves Bark Park and perks up when he realizes where we're headed. In dozens upon dozens of visits, he's been humped a handful of times and subjected to a little rough play, but very rarely to the point where I felt it was unsafe. Bark Park is a pretty typical dog park in this respect, maybe a bit less aggressive than others I've visited. The regulars here are pretty diverse and super friendly. I'm kinda introverted by nature and have a good sense of stranger danger, but I get drawn into a lot of conversations, mostly because Diesel is an enthusiastic idiot who somehow runs at normal dog speed despite his small stature. Regarding the parking, yes, there is a lot at the far side of the dog park, and yes, you have to traverse a four-foot-wide path with your back to the traffic whizzing by at all of 15 MPH if you choose to park in this lot. Closer spots are sometimes available, but when filled, I mostly default to the baseball field parking lot across the street. The biggest logistical problem here is poor drainage. There is a small wading pool that often gets filled and ends up with stagnant, dirty water, which Diesel seems to gravitate to after he gets winded. In general, the water situation at Bark Park is not optimal...fountains work poorly, and drainage is bad throughout. There are a few water jugs sprinkled about in an attempt to mitigate the issue, and provide fresh water for pups. The amount of shade could be better. If it's midday during the summer, I'll drive to Phil Hardberger as the foliage there really helps keep the temperatures a little more reasonable. Bark Park installed a gazebo last year, which helps with some shade if you are sedentary, but I like to walk laps because otherwise Diesel loses his mind. The trees at the park seem to be underwatered; a large portion of them have been cut back or cut down, and not a lot of foliage has grown back in. The issues are minor enough that 95% of the time, I'll prefer the five-minute drive to Bark Park over a fifteen-minute trek to Harbender. Diesel has enough fun that we've been frequenting it with some sort of regularity for a few years now.
