I've been a frequent here for quite a while visiting this place every Friday for Friday night magic and sometimes on Sunday just to hang out. What strikes me as the most important factor is that the employees at the store also seem to enjoy the game as much as the customer. They have a large collection of singles, much larger than many of the other stores that I've visited. The store is enormous and is basically a mini comicon. This is a game store with lots of current comics. If you're looking for back issues, look elsewhere. It looks like they keep a smattering of back issues from 2007-current and they have the last 3-5 issues of recently released comics on the wall. If you're looking for anything prior to 2007, look elsewhere. Tons of games! D&D, independent board games, warhammer, magic, this store has games! A full half of the store is dedicated to tables. It's a busy gaming area on Saturday! I'm absolutely a comic collector, primarily older and more expensive issues, hence my 4 star review. If you are in the DFW area, this place is definitely worth the trip. I'm not exactly an "avid" gamer when it comes to board games, so I was a little unsure about coming here in the beginning. I'm trying to expand my "gaming horizons" away from basic games (Risk, Monopoly, Scrabble, etc). This place is great for that. They have any game you could possibly imagine, and then some. However, their selection alone isn't why this place gets 5 stars from me. No, where Madness earns their marks is through their employees. Not being very knowledgable on what games are out there, I wasn't looking for anything in particular when I went. In fact, I wasn't even sure what type of game I wanted. However, I had the pleasure of speaking with two different employees and let them know what I thought might interest me. Where one employee may not have been sure about a particular game, the other knew plenty of info. In other words, they really complimented one another. I imagine the rest of the staff (whom I didn't speak with) was just as knowledgable as these two. I will say this: just as any other game store I've ever been to, it is definitely possible to find the same games cheaper online. BUT, what you gain in the knowledge and help from the staff is worth paying the extra price. One of the employees even sat down and showed me how to play the game he had just sold me on. Madness Comics is a lot of fun to walk around because of their selection. However, everything is drastically overpriced because they're going for the collector, so you're not going to find any bargains here. For instance, to buy the Exploding Kittens card game you can pay almost $40 there or $15-$20 at Target. Their customer service is unbelievably horrible. Everyone there has the personality of a wet sloth. There's no excitement, no fun, just who's next at the cash register. Couple of examples: We're baby sitting my nephew's kids this weekend, and I decided to take them there for something fun. While they were off looking for a toy to purchase, I walk over to the comic wall, pick up a comic to thumb through to kill time, and one of the employees walks over and says "just a reminder we're a store not a library" as if I'd been over there all day reading through all the comics on their wall. Another time a friend of mine, who's writing children's books, and myself decided to stop by. He was just making small talk with one of the ladies working there and she said "Hey, if you want you can give us some of your books to sell here.....let me go talk to the manager". My friend wasn't really pushing his books or anything but was like, "ok, that would be cool..."so he just hangs out waiting and she walks into the back room and never comes back out...He thought "well, since they showed interest, I'll swing by with a few books." So he came back with some books, found the lady, and she acted like he was crazy and had never seen him before. Needless to say, everyone that works there is very odd. I've been there off and onfor over 10 years, and they don't hire anyone if they have any personality or social skills. read more

The absolute best best gaming in dfw. Show up on Saturdays and make friends playing board games and RPG's. I play Pathfinder here every other week and X-wing on other weekend and there is always a great turn out. Friday night magic always has a great turn out and is THE place to be for tournament training yourself. As soon as you walk in you can see that they have a great set of merchandise as well, but the real selling point is the friendly staff. They are always willing to help and ready to make suggestions for the indecisive nerd. They also ARE nerds, so they know the store and inventory like the back of their hands. This store by far has the most selection of board games in DFW. Extremely friendly staff who never fail to ask you if they can help you find something. I don't play Magic the Gathering anymore but if I did this would be my go-to for cards and tournaments. Huge space for gaming and huge space for merchandise. My only criticism is that their stock can go fast. More than once I've gone to pick up a game that I saw there recently and it was sold out. So if you're going for something in particular, you might want to call ahead. Overall great store. read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this place what more can i say. this is one of my favorite places to shop as a gamer and collector. they have so much stock and the place is huge.It would take you a couple hours to walk through the place and look at everything they have. The staff is always friendly and they will answer whatever question you have honestly. They have board games,tabletop rpgs,minis,collectibles,and all kinds of geeky merchandise. If you don't see something you want they usually will order it for you,if its able to be ordered. There is always a staff member or two walking around the store asking you if you need help finding something or if you want an opinion on a certain game. I went into Madness with my son, who was there to buy paints for his armies. I think I'd only barely been in any kinds of these shops before, maybe I stood out? So when they asked me if I needed help, I half-jokingly asked where the Woman's Pagan section was. To my surprise, I was directed to this bear of a guy who told me "Come along", then lead me down a huge aisle of books. We then talked about feminism, and role-models, and sexuality in stereotypes, and he showed me comic books that I had no idea even existed! However, with a $20 price tag, I told him I had to go look them up before I could spend that! He told me to take a picture of "Promethee" with my phone to make it easier to look up! This is not what i expected in a comic shop, and I am pleasantly surprised as well as newly-educated! And local people, too? Kudos! read more

Good selection of board games, good selection of trade paperbacks, sub par selection of magic singles. The thing that bothered me the most is their refusal to tell you the price of a board game over the phone. If they have it or not, sure, but do you have enough to buy it? Well make that long road trip and find out for yourself. It's a game within itself in that way. I wish I knew the reasoning behind that policy, maybe then I'd be less bothered by it. I am on a tight budget, and the drive their and back is an investment itself for me, but not knowing if you can leave with what you are going there for sucks pretty hard. The only reason Madness comics doesn't get five stars from me is because their monthly selection of comics is a bit schizophrenic. This can be mitigated with a subscription so isn't a total loss, but unless you are a reader of Previews there may be titles you miss because they simply didn't order them. As for the rest of the store, the gaming tables are well-presented and remarkably clean, the RPG, board and card game selection is so complete as to be almost over-whelming, and in stock is a variety of pieces, dice, miniatures, paint and tools. If you want to go to one store for all your gaming needs, this is absolutely it. read more

I've been visiting Madness Games since we moved to the DFW area 4 years ago. Obviously their prices are higher than Amazon but it's worth the premium to visit a brick and mortar store. However, I've recently had a very bad experience. Yesterday I called the store in advance of my visit (it's a 50 mile trip one way) to inquire about the board game "Medina" and was told they had 3 in stock. Then I spoke to a manager about the well publicized issue of moldy games being sold. He told me that he would open the game to insure my copy was mold free. So I went to the store and began the purchase process and sure enough he opened the box and found a very moldy copy. He then said that he would NOT open the other copies to see if either one was mold free! WHAT? After being told on the phone that he would open the boxes to find a mold free game, he changed his mind and refused open any more games! So there are 2 more games sitting on the shelf and just like Schrodinger's Cat the next person who purchase this game may or may not receive a moldy copy. Why would the store want to have a potentially dangerous game sitting on their shelves just waiting for some unsuspecting person to purchase these games. BTW, I was told their return policy is they will only return an unopened copy of a game with the proper sales receipt. So it seems like they are betting they can sell their 2 remaining games to some schlep and not worry about the mold issue. Is this a responsible way to transact business? I think not. As much as I prefer to support brick and mortar stores, for sure this will be my last visit to Madness Games. read more

I really like this store and would have given it a 5. However when I was last there I felt like I was being closely watched for theft the entire 15 minutes I was at the store. The browsing and shopping experience was ruined for me and it felt like I was being pressured to hurry up and buy something. They must have a lot of thefts at this store...the problem is I am not one. read more

Bought an $80 game, got home and it was missing the miniatures you need to play it. Took it back to the store, and a rather curt employee pointed to a 2 in X 2 in sign on the cash register which said no refunds or exchanges in nice small print. He told me to take it up with the manufacturer. No. I left the game on the counter and departed, and I will do no further business with them. They have too much competition for me to be interested in dealing with obnoxious policies like that. Their selection is good, but not the best. Their employees by and large know little to nothing about their products. They are terse at best, rude probably being a better word, and I have no further reason to deal with them. I'll go to Game Chest or Generation-X or even Amazon. Their employees offer no help with products, so really the user reviews on Amazon are a better way to purchase a game I will enjoy. read more

Rude and way overpriced! I went there looking for a game expansion that I called ahead and was assured they had it. Then I get there ask about it and they specifically said it wasn't out but they said "We have EVERYTHING that is out for this game." Then I mentioned they said they had it when I called and he just repeated "We have EVERYTHING that is out for this game." So I went to the next comic store which google maps sent me to and what do you know they had it in stock. I don't mind paying a little more for a nice local shop but their prices are horrible and I will never give money for Jerks like this. There is nothing worse than the High and Mighty all knowing comic/board game person and giving them money is not an option for me. Please go hear if you want to get a game for full price and be treated like dirt while you do. read more

This place is VERY well stocked, it has almost anything I can think of here having to do with games and comics. Lots of toy, accessories as well. There is also a huge area for people to meet and play games or participate in tournaments with. This is the biggest in store collection of quality board games for adults that I have seen. Great place to browse and find the next thing for your game night. The employees were also helpful too and will ask if you need help finding anything or looking for stuff. Their pops collection is smaller than other stores, but the rest of the merchandise really makes up for it - plus you can find pops anywhere else already. read more

What?! What?! What is this place and why doesn't it exist in every city?! This is the ultimate Mecca for Nerds, Geeks, Gaming Minds, and Comic Readers from all over the world. Rows and rows of comics line a quarter of the store while every board game you can think of (and not think of because they have about a hundred more you never heard of) and little knick knacks (a bobblehead of Pedro from Napoleon Dynamite. I'm geeking out just thinking about it right now) cover another quarter of the place. The other half of the store is literally chairs and game tables. Whaatttt.... I didn't end up buying anything, but being there was just an experience in and of itself. There were about five employees that asked me if I needed something, in a kind and super friendly way, like 'you are sharing in a special part of my life right now and I want you to be happy because this is a happy place'. I've never seen so many people be genuinely happy with their job all at once. One woman approached me and asked if she could help me. "I'm just looking right now..." "Well, what are you interested in?" "Uhhh... I don't know?" "You don't know?!" "No...?" She gave me a sideways glance, told me to ask her if I needed anything, and took off. It left me in a small fit of giggles. Which could have been induced by the conversation but also about how amazing the environment was. If you're looking for new comic ideas or to pick up a random board game or card game, this is the place to go. As I also previously mentioned, they have little bobbleheads and different figurines to add to your collection. Star Wars, Star Trek, you name it. The store had every game I was looking for, and we also go to enjoy watching people playing different games at the many tables they had laid out for customers. The staff is always very knowledgeable and more than happy to help. They are fantastic with children, and very accommodating to groups who come in to play games. They have a lot of great stuff, not just comics. They have toys, action figures, games, dresses, shirts, hoodies, bags, action figures, beer glasses and the list goes on. I used to enjoy going there to buy comics, games and toys. I played WoW TCG and Kaijudo there all the time. First, they cancel WoW TCG. Now they've cancelled Kaijudo, all over a misunderstanding. The Kaijudo players (you know, the customers?) wanted to help the customer base grow by moving to Friday night. The TO was made to do everything. All Madness did was provide tables and take entry fees. It feels like Madness only cares about Magic: the Gathering and table top gaming. It was too much to ask for space for 10-20 players on a Friday night. Sad really. The new store has more space and it was easier to move around in. I guess it's more important to lord control over customers you don't support at all. We're just the junior game to Magic: the Gathering. Guess we'll just have to find someone else to take our money. read more

They have a great selection, but it is not worth it to deal with their staff. I recently purchased a board game as a gift for a friend. I realized three days later they already had that game, so with the unopened, still in the plastic-wrapping box, AND with a receipt, I tried to exchange it for a different game. The staff were incredibly rude, begrudgingly letting me exchange the game, but refusing to refund the difference in prices. The first game I got was an odd price that barely anything else was. They would not let me pay the difference in a more expensive game, they only let me exchange for something cheaper, BUT they kept the difference. I guess the store owners don't mind their employees pocketing their customers cash every now and then! read more

Ok this place is just awesome inside! My boyfriend is a comic book collector and frequents here in search of new comics. The store is very well laid out by genre, games, clothing, books, comics and even a children's section. In the back were tables set up for various activities that go on daily there. The workers there were very helpful. As soon as they saw my confused face they quickly asked to help in my search for a DC Comics book. With their help and that of my boyfriend's I was able to walk away with a pretty awesome selection. I'll be returning to this location for sure. The options and selections are endless! read more

Let me start off by saying this place has a huge selection of inventory. Their selection may be unmatched by any local game and comic shop, but the customer service is horrible. I have shopped here before, but I haven't really had to deal with their employees or the owner. Until today that is. I called this morning regarding trading some magic cards for some in store merchandise and I was told it was not a problem to come in. I explained on the phone that the collection I have isn't the run of the mill selection of cards and I was told I would have to have the store owner look at them. I drove from south Arlington all the way to Plano with said cards and an employee told the owner who was currently looking over another customers trade. I was told that the owner would be with me in a few minutes to look over what I had. A few minutes turned into an hour, and I had noticed that the owner was joking around and had finished looking over the other customers cards shortly after I arrived. After the other customer left he didn't ask me if he could help me, so I has to go up to him. I opened my card box and he said he didn't have time to look at my cards. I made him aware that I was sitting there for an hour waiting, and was told that he would be blue to see me today based on my phone call and when I arrived. His response was "oh well, leave them here and I'll look at them sometime this week" and he walked away. I will not be spending any more of my money here as there are other stores that treat their customers better. read more

I came here to pick up a game for a Christmas gift and was not expecting a store as huge as this! I am convinced that they can meet all your gaming needs here. They have tons of tables for game tournaments and there were a good amount of people playing casually when I was perusing the store. They also sell lots of fan t-shirts, collectable figurines, and stuffed animals. The staff is super helpful and friendly as well. Their new location is HUGE with nicely displayed, easy to find games and supplies for all your gaming needs. Tons of comics as well and some shirts too. This place has every comic and board game imaginable, and a huge section with tables where people gather to play games. The staff is knowledgeable and always helpful. The only thing I'd caution about is that since it is so popular, they do sell out fast, with some comics sold out as soon as the day they're released. We have visited this store a few times in the last month. The selection is the best in DFW. I have read reviews that say the customer service was not up to par but that has not been our experience at all. Every time we visit there are multiple people asking if they can help you. If you do have a question they all seem knowledgeable and if they don't know the answer seem to know where to find it. If they don't carry a game or manual you are looking for they provide the email address of their inventory manager so he can order it for you. They have a huge section dedicated to playing games and it is the best place to meet other board gamers. Some of their pricing is a little higher than what you'll find online but I recommend supporting this business because of the hands on customer service and you aren't going to meet other gamers buying online. read more
