Vegan Friendly: Yes, there are plenty of options and you can always ask to customize dishes (3 Stars) Exterior and Interior: Both were not great, it is honestly pretty middle of the road. Food Breakdown: * Panner Tandoor (5 Stars): Man oh man, what can I say about this, it was honestly so good! It took some time for them to make because it is made fresh but it was totally worth the wait. And the addons they put like the cabbage, onion, and green pepper really made the dish a lot more fun. * Mango Lassi (4 Stars): I am really picky when it comes to Lassi but shocking it was really good and I would for sure get it again especially since the price is reasonable and because of how heavy it usually it is, the amount was perfect for dinner. 4 stars because the Indo-Chinese/fusion food is so good.. But unfortunately the service isn't as attentive and placing an order through the phone is difficult. We usually only order delivery but I was in the area and decided to take out and pick up. I didn't like that the host wasn't wearing a mask and one employee I saw briefly wasn't wearing a mask over their nose fully. However, all of our dishes came out very well. They were slammed today (Friday Night) and the food still came out as delicious as always. I recommend the chilly garlic noodles, chicken Hakka noodles, chicken manchurian (in sauce), gobi manchurian, and chicken 65. i had high hopes but this place wasn't good. wait times were misleading, they said 15 minutes and my fiancé ended up waiting an additional 30. the chicken tikka marsala portion was so small, and the sauce was very thin. the goat biryani has far too many aromatic spices to the point where it was overwhelming, and honestly i think the mint chutney was spoiled! we took a taste and had to spit it out! our "garlic" naan was also burned. read more

We had lunch at Madras Chopsticks today. Please note there is a 15% dine-in service fee and 3% credit card transaction fees. We tipped despite these charges because the food and service were excellent. Food: We are foodies and love to try out one new restaurant every week. We rarely give a place 5 stars. But every single dish we ordered was excellent so this place definitely deserves 5 stars. We ordered chicken manchow soup (cup size), dry Chilli chicken, chicken manchurian w/ gravy, chicken Chilli garlic noodles and chicken schezwan fried rice. The spice level they recommended for us and our little girl was perfect. I grew up eating Indo-Chinese dishes in Bombay and in my 15+ years in the US, I haven't found a place with this good Indo-Chinese food. Service: The host (owner or manager) was warm and attentive. The African American female server was very warm and friendly loving on our little girl and also attentive. I know the pandemic has hit the restaurant industry hard. So it's always wonderful to see smiling faces. Price and portion sizes: the price was pretty good and the portion sizes were excellent. The food was excellent - and I will never return. The restaurant now charges a 15% service charge for eating in the dining room. That service charge apparently does not go to the wait staff. I was also told that if you tip on the credit card that the wait staff does not see that money. I think these business practices are shady, and I will not support a business that is taking advantage of the front-of-the-house staff. This is my new favorite Desi restaurant in Northern Virginia! This place has an impressive variety of foods including dosas, curries, both veg and non-veg (halal) and Indo Chinese. We ordered a chicken appetizer, hakka noodles, and keema dosa and were extremely impressed. The service was prompt and the servers were very friendly. Prices were also reasonable given the large portion sizes. Highly recommend this place! read more

I'm baffled why this place only has three stars. After two amazing meals, it's officially our go-to restaurant in Herndon (we just moved to the area from Leesburg in March). Yes, service can be slow, as some have noted. So what? This is NOT a fast-food joint. They focus on and execute beautiful, high-quality food that's consistently delicious and delightfully unique. The dining room always has patrons, but is rarely full. (Surely their weekend buffets are much busier, but we've not had a chance to visit one yet, though we will.) The restaurant visibly does a booming take-out business, a sure sign that locals know the real deal. The ability of the front-of-house manager to handle a constantly ringing phone, the steady flow of customers coming in for pick-ups, while also orchestrating the dining room, is impressive indeed. Sure, you may need to ask for a water refill or inquire about a forgotten dish, but don't be shy asking for either as he's friendly and responsive. Trust me, the food's worth these minor issues. Everything that comes out of the kitchen is beautifully made and clearly well thought out. Take the Lemon Coriander Soup. I defy you to find a more complex, deeply layered, utterly delicious dish. You have to taste it several times to fully appreciate the depth of flavor. On top of that, the vegetables in the soup are super fresh, providing a textural component that makes the dish wholly satisfying. I could write virtually the same about any of the dishes we've ordered, including the Cauliflower and Mushroom Manchurian (super-flavorful appetizers--perfect plates for launching a meal), to the entrees of Palak Paneer, Mongolian Lamb, Hakka Noodles, and Spicy Schezwan Noodles with Lamb. The variety of breads and Dosas are also lovingly made: buttery, fresh, amazing. All are scrumptious, a revelation of something new and exciting each time. Some say only order Indian dishes, or Chinese, or never the fusion. Nonsense. All are consistently good and worth the adventure of the meal. We both love to cook and eat foods from all over the world. And we've never had a cuisine that was so deeply interesting and so thoroughly gratifying as Madras Chopsticks. I am bound to give them 5 stars again for their delicious food. Last weekend i have ordered hakka noodles, chili paneer with gravy, chicken lollipop, hyderabadi chicken with parotta. Trust me, everthing was perfectly made. Nobody can beat them in Indo chinese & they are the masters in South Indian food. I have tried almost every Indo- Chinese restaurants in DMV area including Inchin, Asian Fusion but their food can not came close to Madras Chopsticks even a 1%. The representative who takes pick- up order is always very patient and takes my detailed order while consultation with the manager/ Chef. First time visiting this place. Service was very slow, took about 45 minutes to receive our food orders! And it wasn't even that crowded on a Saturday evening at like 8:30 PM! Not sure why it took so long and one of the entrees didn't come out, so we had to tell the server to check again. The food itself tasted fine, which wasn't the issue. Just the slowness and one order which apparently got forgotten gave us a bad experience... Might give it another chance on a different time, maybe. read more

I've only ordered to-go here since everyone says eating here is a bad idea. This is not my go to for indian or asian food, but I will come here on my lunch break if I want something close-by since its right next to my house. I always get the same things, which are the samosa chaat, butter chicken and chilly garlic potatoes. All are very delicious and flavorful, the potatoes are my absolute favorite, I really like the sauce. It's a decent restaurant but the food is expensive for the portion sizes. The buffet seems to be a good hit with the reviews so I'll have to try it. read more

Madras...Oh Madras...You could be a 5 but... How amazing the Gobi Manchurian is, it's an amazing cauliflower delight that to my senses goes well with their equally flavorful Palak Paneer. Their Garlic Na'an is also quite nice, soft and chewy, and doesn't taste reheated but very fresh. The Biryani is underwhelming but could be so absolutely amazing if the cooked chicken weren't still cold inside of the hot rice. This led me to assume the chicken is prepped, precooked and refrigerated for use when a chicken biryani order is placed. However, the spices are spot on fabulous but attention to detail is everything. As far as customer service, I agree with another Yelper that eating in is a bit of a chore. You need to flag down your serving staff for a check. This is a bit of an inconvenience if you have somewhere to be. We generally order ahead on Yelp and pick up. So as far that goes, it's relatively hassle free. These guys do so much better than some other local places both with the food, quality, packaging so things don't leak or spill and they're generally friendly, especially the older gentleman who seems to be always working there. Once they even gave us a Gobi Manchurian which is why we now always order it!!! Madras is a true Indian/Asian Fusion Cuisine restaurant that gets a lot right. Just work on table service. I'm surprised how this place even has three stars. We honestly tried to give them chances so many times but time and again they've just disappointed. This review is solely on the basis of Uber Eats. We placed the order with them three times in three different days/occasion but every single time they've either forgot to take the order or started cooking it when the Uber guy arrived for pick up. There have been times when we've received our food after 2 hours. Absolutely ridiculous. During the pandemic, restaurants have upped their game to stay in business, but these guys are on the opposite spectrum. Never ordering for you guys again. read more

Decent restaurant for South India food. Located in the clock tower, it serves limited options in veg and non veg dishes. We ordered the Veg South Indian meal - idlis, poori, dosa, sambhar and chutney (2 types). I really liked the Idlis, they were freshly made, soft and fluffy. The poori was decent. Dosa which took a longer time to be served was okish. We also Tried the goat Biryani as well which was okish. Few of the meat Pieces were a bit rubbery and the biryani could do with more masala, it was really dry. Prices are ok. Total cost was around 25$ for us. read more

Prices keep going up every time we visit. The lunch specials have jumped from 7.99 to 12.99, a 60% increase -- and the quality has gone way downhill. Twice in a row we were served stale food. The daal was dry, the potato masala was stale and stinky. The chutneys were fridge cold. The cherry on top is the mandatory 15% service charge and 3% credit card fee. Avoid. I had egg chicken fried Hakka noodles here. I also had the medu vada plate. Both were much better than the other options here. They are good with indo chinese and you can customize it as you like. The place was clean and tidy and well staffed. The samosas at this restaurant are really tasty and I have ordered from here several times for corporate potlucks. I definitely give them 4 stars. The only thing I would reckoned is to boil the chicken for the indo Chinese stuff to give the Chinese twist to it. read more

Delivery from this place is great, dine-in is dismal. I get delivery from this place quite frequent and it's always been excellent - the green coconut chutney is my favorite! I finally decided to try this place out as dine-in and I'm so sad i did. Here's what was so terrible about my experience: - We first ordered idli, and then ordered vada. One by one, he told us these were not available on the dinner menu. This is untrue because I have got dinner delivery of these items before AND there's no "lunch only" section on the menu - We asked our server for more chutney and sambhar (he gave us 1 of each between 3 people AND 3 dosas) and he was very confused, and somewhat mortified by this request - We asked the server more information about a particular dosa. He started explaining what a dosa is, and did so incorrectly. - He messed up 2/3 of our dosas -- literally got the opposite of what we asked - HIGHLIGHT: We found a short, cooked in hair in our dosa. The man literally picked up the hair and took it back in the kitchen (almost like he was going to hold it up and have everyone compare...) I'm giving this place two stars because I'm still tolerant of the delivery. DO NOT DINE-IN -- the less you see of how this restaurant is run, the easier your food will digest. read more

It has become one of the worst restaurants in Herndon. The change in Staff and chefs are entirely to be blamed. Last week when I ordered for Navaratan Korma, it had only peas and carrots off of a frozen bag. I gave feedback about it to the staff which fell on deaf ears. Today, despite complaining and asking the staff to be vigilant about how the orders come from kitchen and ordering 4 orders of Samosas (8pieces), they gave me very less chutney.
