I was so happy when this location opened in Harvard Square. I constantly visited the Seaport location when I was in the area. You don't find many locations that serve good dosas anymore. Madras Dosas is conveniently open until 3am. The seaport location was filled with people even late at night. I didn't expect people of all ages to crave dosas at all hours of the day but here we are. I love the Chipotle style menu of adding any toppings you want onto a dosa. You no longer have to stick to a ridged menu without any variety. They finally opened their second location in Harvard Square. It is located deeper in the area near IHOP. It was a little hard to find at first. The location seemed to be somewhat smaller with less tables. I ordered their plain dosa with aloo tiki and samosa chaat on the side. The food was wonderful. I wish the portions were bigger. They put a decent amount in the middle but that was it. Most of the dosa was empty and left me hungry afterwards. I did pick up a Mango Lassi which filled me up a bit more. Really enjoyed my dinner here at Madras Dosa in Cambridge. This is a casual style restaurant where you order at the counter and your food is ready in just a couple of minutes. I ordered a Dosa which seems to be the specialty item here. You get to choose your own toppings inside. They actually had a suggestion for what to put so I went with that--spicy potatoes, cheese, and onions. I also got beef. The portion is huge and I left feeling very full. The dosa itself and all the sauces it came with were very flavorful. It's right in the heart of Harvard Square so parking is either street (if you're lucky) or a nearby garage. The dosa is way bigger than I expected! Definitely shareable. I got it with lamb, spicy potatoes, and pineapple. The pineapple is a sweet and tangy chunky sauce that balances the savory spice of the other elements well. Each element, including the three dipping sauces, has so much complex flavor. It doesn't feel cheap at $17 for a wrap with three fillings, but the quantity and quality of the fillings are worth it. It feels authentic to a degree that's hard to find elsewhere. As a heads up, the lamb was quite spicy, much spicier than the spicy potatoes. Be careful and ask for help ordering if you can't handle spice! read more

The spicy potato dosa and lamb canteen sandwich were both excellent. I was impressed by the quality of the lamb in the sandwich, the fact that it came with chips, and that it was very hearty and filling for only $13. There were a few too many flies in the restaurant, but I'm not sure if that is normal or not. Service was excellent and we really enjoyed our meal! The hottest new place in town. If you get the karam podi spice, be prepared for HEAT! They have a milder version called gunpowder. As someone who LOVES fiery foods, even I regretted opting for the spiciest option. The dosas were HUGE and were so filling. I liked how you can easily customize your order. I ordered one dosa with the paneer, karam podi, onions, and potatoes and had plenty of leftovers. The dipping sauces that come with the dosa were delicious as well. I was a bit confused when I first walked in because I didn't know what the dosa came with already and what a dosa is typically filled with. So I just went with their recommendations of onions, potatoes, cheese, and chicken. It was very delicious. Not cheap though but I will say that the dosa is large which offsets the expensive cost. The three sauces are all delicious but I have no idea what each of the three sauces are. All have some sort of spice and one of the red sauces was very thick and sweet which I enjoyed. This place is not to be missed! Indian street food taken to gourmet heights. Their dosa pancakes are so light and crispy - and bigger than the ones I've had in LA. I had the classic Dosa with Spicy Potatoes inside and it was fabulous. So comforting. It was so good, I opted to eat it without any of the three sauces it comes with. Although, they were fine too. I sampled the chicken filling (ground chicken long simmered in a red sauce) and will order that next time I come - probably with the potatoes though as they'd be missed. A word to the wise... if you're anything but a spice heavyweight champion, do NOT order either of the "Spicy Podi" dosas. A young local man ordered one and ended up with not just a runny nose, but a *bloody* nose. Never seen that before! :-) The poor cooks were so sweetly beside themselves, checking on him, and trying to make him another dosa that was less spicy. But the freckle-faced lad wouldn't have it. He smiled and said he was going to "suffer through it" with his friends (one of whom seemed to know his way around the menu and might've been from India). The pinnacle of the meal by far was the Dahi Puri - crispy hollow balls of goodness filled with sweet yogurt, purple onion and corn. Sounds like a wacky combo, but it was ambrosia! I won't sign off before mentioning the other highlight, a side of Aloo Tikka I ordered as an afterthought. Imagine the silky mashed potatoes formed into 1/4 inch disks with a corn in masala (red) sauce filled center. And then deep fried and dusted with a savory sweet powder. Again, the sauce was redundant, I tried it and tossed it aside. These things were bliss. I, sadly, have no Indian heritage, but these cakes were redolent of the comfort that only my grandmother could've channeled through her cooking. I wanted to like the masala lassi (cilantro, garlic and yogurt drink), but my palette's not yet sophisticated enough to appreciate it, a bit too salty for me. The freshly-prepared sweet lime soda was pleasant however - be prepared for a bit of umami crouching beneath the sweet. What caused it? I have no idea! But I was feeling adventurous and loved that it also had a fresh sprig of mint floating inside the bottle. Can't wait to go back and order an array of different dishes and the Desi Hot Chocolate. Oh, and get this... they're open until 3 am. Finally! A restaurant that's sensible enough to cater to this community. So glad one's finally found us. read more

This is my go to dosa place in Cambridge. I've also eaten at their Seaport joint but prefer the Cambridge one. I don't feel their quality is consistent across the 2 branches, with the Cambridge joint's food having the superior taste. It's a no frills eatery offering dosa, idli, uttapam, several types of chaat, pav bhaji, and pulav. I've tried pretty much everything on their menu and love their aloo tikki and dahi puri. For a self service place, it's a tad bit on the pricier side. But food is tasty and hygienic and therefore I am okay to pay the premium and keep returning here. Special mention to their ginger chutney - it's absolutely delicious!! read more

Went here a few weeks ago and ordered the dosa with the spicy podi, potatoes, and onion. Being somewhat new to South Indian cuisine, I've only had dosas a handful of times, but I would have to say that Madras was the best I've ever had in the Boston area. The texture of the dosa was perfect- it wasn't too crispy or doughy. I also ordered the ras malai and thought the consistency of it was perfect, as it wasn't too rubbery or spongy. The restaurant is primarily self-service - you need to pick up your food and utensils from the counter. The ambiance of the restaurant was fine but there wasn't anything particularly special about it. The decor seemed like it was trying to specifically appeal to millennials (the pink neon sign & fake vine wall), which I found a bit strange. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is either familiar or unfamiliar with South Indian cuisine. I'd been to the downtown location of Madras Dosa Company before, and was excited to try the new Harvard Square location. Over the past two weeks I've eaten there twice - once in person, once through delivery.. So far I've had that Pav Bhaji, Samosa Chaat, and two of the cutlet sandwiches. The Pav Bhaji was really good, similar to pav bhaji I've had before. The Samosa chaat was excellent, most of that being down to the samosas which they add a cinnamon-like spice to (not sure which it is) that gives them a small edge over the other samoas you find around here. The "Cutlet Sandwich" in my opinion steals the show. I'm not sure the origins, if it's an established street food dish in India or (my guess) just a clever indo-american fusion the restaurant owners came up with. Either way it's AWESOME comfort food - simple sandwiches with perfectly crusty bread, one main flavor (veggie meat, paneer, potato) plus melted cheese, diced onions, indian spices and a few other ingredients. I tried the veggie meat one and loved it, but could tell a pure paneer might be even simpler and more tasty. Sure enough, the paneer sandwiched turned out to be even better- the best sandwich I've had in ages, and, in a sense, the best grilled cheese I think I've had in... my life??? Yeah, it's that good. With the sandwich, they give you a little bit of chips on the side, which are essentially ruffles like potato chips dusted with indian spice. Like the sandwich, very simple, but VERY delicious and more-ish. I'd say it's worth upgrading to a larger order unless you go with one of the many other good sides. No review of the dosa at this location yet, but I've had it at the Boston location and it was good. Not massive, and the individual add-ons can add up quickly, but well made and comes in a cool to-go container. One of the best features of Madras Dosa Co is the late hours - both this and the Boston location are open till 3 am every night. It's so rare to see any restaurants in the greatest Boston area open past 10pm, let alone actually GOOD ones. There was no other customers when we came in and the guys behind the counter were so unfriendly and I had a question the younger guy just pointed at the menu and no other explanations were given. And the older guys was not so people person either. We clearly walked in with three small children and he didn't tell me how big the dosa was gonna be or HOW SPICY they were. I even told him it's for the kids and he took my order without informing me. So we spent over $100 and felt like we were scammed because none of them were eaten and ordered a dosa for each person. Was it so hard to tell us it's super spicy and huge? Anyways I didn't like the flavor of all the meat the balance was off and they were all ground meat and just felt so gritty and really salty. We also had to wait for a long time considering the restaurant was dead Since none of the kids ate theirs I asked for some boxes because I didn't want to throw them out and the younger guy shook his head.
