In all honesty, the food was good but we wouldn't return due to the lack of genuine and sincere customer service from the person waiting our table. There was no communication from our waitress regarding the length of our wait (1 hour from the time we placed our order), nor the up charge on cheese for our burgers, but she did communicate in an awkward moment when she interrupted a few in our party from ordering beer at the bar. We had inquired and were informed from a very warm and kind staff member, happy hour drinks needed to be ordered in the bar before 6. We literally were in the middle of ordering and she leaned in and stopped our order. An uncomfortable moment for all. We just didn't have a great experience here. The service was slow to seat us, and it was very warm inside. I ordered the special, but was told 10 minutes later that it was sold out. Turns out that was maybe a good thing, because a lady at the table next to ours sent hers back (bones in the fish?not exactly sure). So ordered the burger, which was VERY greasy. Two stars for the service and the 20 percent gratuity tacked onto my bill. There were 6 in our party, 4 adults and 2 children. The server took our order, served our order, and we had to flag her down to get our bill. Imagine our surprise when we had to pay 20% gratuity on our bill after the tax had been added. $16.00... Seems I did NOT see the note that said party of 6+ had to pay inflated amount for miserable service. To add to the insult... when presented my credit card slip I was given the total of $104.00 and offered the chance to add a tip. I do not feel obligated to pay a specific percentage of bill... The service was very friendly and not invasive when we were eating. The food seems inventive, but there was too much pepper in the dishes, the mixed drinks were watered down, and there is red onion on EVERYTHING. Our mixed drinks were watered down, the mint mojito being especially so with too much lime and unbalanced mint proprtions. The fish and chips were okay. Overall, it is overpriced for the proprtions and lack of balance to the flavors across several of the dishes, making for an unfinished and less satisfying eaying experience. Food was good, seated quickly, which made the rest super bad. It took forever for server to notice us or take food/drink orders once seated. Wouldn't come by the table after drinks delivered, had to flag another server to figure out where our food was after 40mins. Was given half order of French fries to attempt to placate us. Eventually hear that two of the things we ordered were delivered to another table and they were now out. We said thanks anyway finished up and left. Just crummy experience all around. read more

3 of us split the 3-piece fish and chips and the blue cheese salad, which was plenty of food! The beer battered fish and chips was as good as we've had, the cod was cooked perfectly, the beer batter remained light and crispy to the last bite, the tartar sauce was not chunky like some restaurants serve, the fries were hot and plentiful, and the caraway seed slaw was well dressed and creamy. The blue cheese and shrimp salad too was well dressed, and the toasted almonds were a nice surprise. We liked our meal so much that we had to come back for lunch the next day as we had a wedding to attend that evening. BTW, that 2nd visit was a super busy Saturday afternoon and yet the servers were very attentive and same quality meal. The location is absolutely lovely with a wonderful view of the water, and the island. It's ambiance depends on the time of year. During the summer it is crowded with tourists and can be challenging to cope with. The off season is a bit more laid back and the staff seems a bit less hassled. The decor is wood and windows. The bar is off to one side with the ever present sports TV visible. We've been many times and have always enjoyed our meals and have look forward to trying the different beverages as well. The fish and chips is great and the spinach salad is very flavorful! Usually the service is good and the wait staff is attentive. This last time we were really put off by the BLTA sandwich. It is a generous sandwich with plenty of everything BUT two of the slices of bacon were grossly undercooked! The waitress didn't come near our table so we couldn't send it back. We pointed it out to her when she finally came to collect our plates. She made a face and gave us our bill. She didn't offer to get us another sandwich or comp us for the less than satisfactory meal. This was a surprise. Maybe they can afford to be casual figuring most of the clients are tourists who won't be back that frequently. I hope not. read more

7/11/18 had dinner here. Many of the other reviews noted lousy service. Tonight the service was delightfully friendly and very quick. Jenelle was great! Our meal was served within a half hour of arrival. I agree with other comments about the calamari. Don't order it. I had this for lunch one time and it is a plate of oiled breading with very little calamari in it. I had to scrape off most of the breading to find anything edible. Walked in there as they were clearing out a table on the outdoor patio. Asked the lady who greeted us if we could have that table and she said that there were no open tables. It was incredibly hot and dank inside of the restaurant and so we left and went somewhere else. We visited Orcas Island for the first time over Memorial Day weekend. After perusing the menus of several locations during the day, we made reservations to come to Madrona that night, mostly because of the view of the water. When we arrived, there was no host/hostess in sight. We waited at least 15 mins. before being acknowledged by a busser, who confirmed our reservation and lead us to our table. After we were seated, we waited another 15 mins. before a female server asked us if we had been helped yet. She finally got our server for us and we ordered the bruschetta, Fish and Chips, and chicken pasta. Our daughter was very hungry, so we were anxious for the appetizer to arrive. However, when it did, we were completely grossed out to find a long, black hair draped on top of one of the pieces of bruschetta. We promptly sent it back, and the server barely said a word. My daughter and I left to use the restroom, and when we came back (she was starving at this point), all of the food had arrived, and the server had apologized to my husband. We began to eat, only to discover that the new plate of bruschetta ALSO had a hair on it!! It was not the same hair, and it was not in the same place. Are you kidding me?? At this point, I couldn't stomach anything, and stopped eating my entree. We pointed out the new hair to the waiter who said "Jesus, I can't believe it", took the bruschetta away. He came back to offer a dessert "on the house". I would never eat anything in this place "on the house" or not. Management never came over and talked to us. If I could have given this dining experience negative stars, I would. Do not come here. read more

Staff was quite a bit stressed out and unfriendly, which was odd because we noticed that it was not peak rush and we had at least 5 people attend to our table, so they were definitely not understaffed. Very disappointing experience! In the mood for a good steak. Generally I try to avoid ordering steaks unless I'm at a steakhouse. Since they had rib eye and flat iron steaks, I trusted the waitress who highly recommended the rib eye. I ordered it rare. Didn't expect Steak Tartare, but that's what I got. It was a very large steak, looked beautiful on the outside, totally raw on the inside. The waitress took the steak back, unfortunately took the potatoes and vegetables as well. This left me watching my table companion most of her entire dinner. Apparently their policy doesn't include taking the meat off the plate and leaving me something to eat. When she brought the recooked steak (not a new one), it was overcooked, well-done. The potatoes were the old ones, the asparagus now dried up & slightly burnt. I was given a choice, get something else, order another steak or eat what was there & they would comp it. Tried to eat the meal, potatoes ok, veggies dried up, steak tender with good flavor but I like my meat rare or medium rare. In addition, my friend had ordered a drink, they even checked her I'd , but never gave it to her. When I mentioned it to the waitress she seemed surprised, not sure why. Won't return. read more

We went to Orcas Island for a whale watching tour and decided to dine at Madrona before catching the ferry back to Anacortes. It was a beautiful location on the waterfront with a nicely decorated interior. All three of us decided to order burgers and an extra side of garlic fries. The fries were great with real garlic but beware the side of fries is 8 dollars! The server was efficient but not very friendly. We said thank you for everything she delivered and she never once said you're welcome. Or responded at all. The same with the rest of the staff, we walked past several employees on the way out and not one of them said thank you or good bye. However, we were seated right away/good drink service/decent waitress service however from the time we sat down and the food was finally delivered--WE SAT FOR ONE FULL HOUR. I've never written a review before, but felt compelled after visiting The Madrona Bar & Grill twice on a recent trip. The food was mediocre, at best. Our hamburgers were overcooked, but we didn't expect too much. Most incredible was the service, or lack thereof. We arrived to watch the US Open on TV, and eat/drink. We asked 5 or 6 different times to have the TV channel switched to the golf match, and we're told "sure....when the bartender has a break." Despite repeated requests to the bartender, she refused to do this, claiming she was too busy (clearly not the case. Afer 90 minutes of frustration, we left upset, but were forced to pay a 20% tip (our party exceeded six people). Avoid this place at all costs! read more

I wish there was more stars to give! First off the view is amazing we got to sit by the fire and were greeted warmly by a very nice server. They were really busy (Shakesphere Festival) so we did have to wait a few minutes for a table and they were out of a few things but it did not effect how much we enjoyed this place the atmosphere was awesome and the food was spectacular. I had the Pan seared Scallop Special it was to die for and my wife had the Portabella Burger with JoJo's ( they were out of fries) which were really tasty I eneded up stealing half of them. we wil definetly be coming back to the madrona next time we are on the islands! read more
