Some great and some not so great here. Crab chowder, like where was the crab. Thick, creamy soup, but crab seems to have left the building. Steamed clams were great, finally steamed clams with plenty of garlic to suit my needs. Absolutely yummy. In some more dense location, this would be considered mediocre. But on San Juan Island your choices are very limited. If you're on the West end of the island, this is the place to catch lunch. You can do much better for dinner elsewhere however. Try Coho, for example. The island has a number of classy choices for dinner, but the choices become teensy for lunch. Blue Water is a better place for lunch, but it's on opposite end of the island. The Lime Kiln Cafe also serves lunch, but it's basically only sandwiches, so Madrona is a better choice. read more

Well, there is not much good to say here. The wait was ridiculous. We sat at the bar because they were busy. Once we sat, we waiting 15 minutes to even be recognized by staff who walked by us a dozen times. Once we placed the order, we waited 45 min. for the food. We had a wonderful lunch here. Two of us had the clam chowder soup; it was great. The bacon added extra flavor. One of us had a delicious burger. I had the coconut shrimp, my sister had the spinach salad, and she said that it was the best one she ever had. It was huge with candied nuts and goat cheese. I was visiting my sister on Orcas this past weekend and ate lunch at the Madrona Bar & Gril. The atmosophere is amazing. Very cozy with all of the wood and the amazing view of the bay! The Adobo shrimp that I ordered was the best shrimp that I've ever had! The ceasar salad was also wonderul. The lettuce was crisp and cold and the dressing very good. I've eaten at other places in Eastsound but this is now my favorite and I will definitely return the next time I'm on the island. read more

I'll concur with a majority of other reviewers. Food is OK; I only had a salad with some added garlic shrimp though. The view was pretty fantastic; that's probably a majority of what you're paying for. They do have a full service bar and most other customers seemed to enjoy their wine selection. The service though; now that was a different story, not so good. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt; the place was busy and they seemed a little short handed. Maybe someone called in sick or something. Even giving them the benefit of the doubt, my experience mirrors what many others are saying. Would I go again? Yes and the next time, I'll try their Ribeye. It really looked good and good sized. read more

Food is pretty good although a little spendy, like everything on the island. The problem is the service is hit or miss. Last time we went we overheard that the people who owned the building were coming in and special tables were reserved for them. As we had already ordered, we were not worried. When the "special" folks came in the guy who is always behind the bar (Owner?) waited on them hand and foot and it was kind of amusing - until we noticed they all had their food (there were like 8 or 10 of them) while we were still waiting 45 minutes later! We asked and the waitress said it was because one of us had ordered steak but I have had it there before, it doesn't take 45 minutes. The waitresses were talking and we heard them say our order had been bumped behind the special folks. Pretty frustrating and by the time we ate, our kids were climbing the walls. Then, a mandatory 18% was added because there were six of us. Swore we would not be going back but then ended up there this weekend, because frankly there ain't no one else doing a good burger and fries anymore so. . . consistently good food, not anything to write home about but fine. Great view and good food. We dined here for lunch and had a blue cheese burger, fish and chips and salad. Horrendous attitude and service. Bring your copy of War and Peace to read while you wait for your food. As mentioned in multiple reviews: RUN as fast as you can. I ordered soup and clams for dinner. Waited one whole hour before the food appeared. During the entire wait the waitress not once came to refill the water glasses or offer anything else. When the food was finally placed in front of me, I asked "Te" (I believe her name is Terena), why am I getting both courses at the same time after waiting for one hour? Her response: "you did not specify it". Seriously? I mentioned to her "you are the waitress, you should know better". My dining companions stated to her "this is pathetic service, we waited one hour and now you are serving all courses at the same time". But It only gets better! At this point she turned to us and told us to "watch our tone". Yes, you read it right ,a back talking, full of attitude waitress, who is expecting a tip at the end of our meal. Not one apology for the one hour wait , which by reading the other comments is par for the course on a every day basis at this establishment. There are multiple reviews on Trip Advisor and Yelp that reflect the obnoxious service by this same individual. When asked to speak to the manager or owner we were told it was her day off. Another waitress miraculously approached to tell us that she was the manager. She proceeded to defend the service and attitude of the other waitress, and after being told that the tip was going to be zero, offered a 20% discount on the food. I don't need a discount and I did not receive an apology. Take your hard earned money to a restaurant where you will be appreciated and respected. read more

Ugh. Mediocre food, horrible service. Nothing fresh or local. The server straight up told me the prawns come from India. I mean come on. Took 40 minutes to get our meals, a fish and chips and steak. Despite being seated in the hot sun, it took 15 minutes and 2 people to bring us water. My iced tea was empty for 25 minutes before getting it refilled... Really lousy food, long wait for a bad lunch, sorry service all around, super disappointing. A rubbery chicken sandwich, tasteless cheeseburger and droopy BLT served with greasy cold fries. Yes, its quiet on Orcas Island in January, so maybe this restaurant figures it doesn't matter, since they are one of a very few restaurants open. Maybe this is the winter crew but this meal seriously left a sour taste in our mouths and we won't be back even in the summer hoping for a better experience. We won't be going back! We called the Madrona Bar today to ask them if they had the Oscars on t.v. The waiter was nice and said they could turn it on for us in the bar with no volume. So we went in at 5 PM to watch them, eat dinner and get a glass of wine. Once we entered the restaurant we noticed every single table in the place was empty except for a couple people in the bar. The views are pretty in the windows near by the tables (and there were no Oscars on like we'd requested) so I asked the older lady waitress if we could sit by a window to see the views (every one was empty). She got uncomfortably close to me and said, "no, you can't sit there. You can only have happy hour in the bar." We then went into the tiny cramped little bar area (with no Oscars playing like we'd been told would be on). So my husband and I decided to leave. I told the lady we'd have stayed if she'd let us sit in one of the one of empty tables near the windows. My husband pointed out to her that the whole restaurant was empty and we should be able to sit in an available empty table at dinner time. She said loudly, "It's our policy to sit you in the bar at happy hour!" Firstly, if your restaurant is empty at five PM, you should let customers sit at a table near a window if they want to. Terrible customer service! We down the street to the White Horse and the first thing they told us (with tons of customers sitting at tables) was "sit anywhere you want" by a friendly waitress. The views, customer service and food were much better at the White Horse! We ate the night before too at the Madrona and the spinach salad had really weird tasting bacon on it...odd flavor like licorice. read more

Our family frequents Orcas Island year around. We have dined at the Madrona Bar and Grill several times since it's opening. It is wonderful! The atmosphere and views are amazing and the food is delish! We love their Fish and Chips, Rib Eye Steak, Salads, and appetizers! It's great food for a good price! Would recommend it to anyone and we will definitely be returning customers! read more

We went to Madrona twice. The first time was alright, we had a bucket of shrimp ad it was pretty good, and the service was good. The second time we went it was embarrassing. We took two friends and sat inside. the service was slow, it seemed like they were very short staffed. It took about 45 minutes for us to get our entrees, and when I got my Rib Eye, I would have rather just gotten a snack and eaten at another place. The rib eye was on par with something you would get at Denny's or Perkins for breakfast. A terrible cut, no effort in presentation. Just lazy. read more

Poor customer service, pricy food. Fast seating, average food quality, and nice view. There may have been 8 tables (at the very most) occupied and the waitress never refilled our water glasses. They add an automatic 20% gratuity to parties of 5 or more, maybe that's why the five of us never got a refill. To top it off, they won't even split a check. read more

We came up to Orcas for a nice quiet weekend and really enjoyed our time here. On the first afternoon we hit the town of Eastsound and decided that the Madrona Bar & Grill looked like a good place with a nice view so we started there. It was nothing short of fantastic. The guy who waited on us was super helpful (don't know his name, but he wore an eye patch). He had a great personality and chatted about things to do on the island. The view from this restaurant is amazing with a deck on the water side for the nicer days. The food here was excellent. Over the course of two days, we ate lunch here twice and dinner once. We loved every bit of it. I don't understand some of the marginal reviews posted here, but I would give this place 10 stars if I could. The Fish and Chips, Salads and Blue Cheese burger were really, really good. Definitely go there! Next time I visit the island - this will be the first place that I go to. read more

Ok, I see why this site is called "YELP"!! EEk! Come on guys. I've had many good meals at this place but tonight was a joke. I don't normally complain unless it's terrible. Dinner tonight was terrible. First, after ordering Chicken Parmesan - the waitress came back 10 minutes later explaining that they didn't have any more Chicken Parmesan.. ok - who doesn't have chicken in their kitchen? If you're going to own a restaurant or be a cook/chef be passionate. I am a crappy cook (that's why I eat out) but I can cook a much better piece of salmon than what I had tonight. Tonight's salmon was a dry piece of leftover that was trying to be passed off as a $24 piece of salmon (I'd estimate it was $2.50 worth of salmon - yes - that ridiculous). Salmon served ANYWHERE on the Washington Coast should be the best salmon you've ever had. If not, it should be re-made or free. The waitress offered a free dessert - no thanks. read more

The Madrona Bar and Grill in Eastsound Wa Orcas Island is a great NW find. It is not just a pub with bar food ,it has a great menu with outside dinning and a fantastic view of Fisherman's Bay. My girlfriend and I went there for lunch, shopped, then had to go back for dinner, it was so good. I had the spinach salad,with candied walnuts,mixed with mushrooms and capicola ham with a licorice flavor. The dressing was really special I had to ask the secret, it was an fennel infused vinegarete, it was to die for,it was my choice to dinner too. We also shared crab cakes full of crab, not fillers, and the local Is steamer clams were delicious. Nada ordered the Neah Bay fresh salmon, cooked to perfection. We drank our desert! It was the best, a mocha martini, never had one but will put it in my list of favorites. The restaurant gets really busy in the summer months so you may have to wait for a table, but it is worth your patience. We will go back, did I mention the hamburgers, they are great too!! Give this a 5 stars what a savory dinning experience! read more
