Unfortunately, based on the strong positive reviews from others, I went to Maestro thinking that they could hem a dress and fix a torn strap on my heels -- kill two birds with one stone. I like to give my business to small places. For the dress, a chiffon sundress with many yards of fabric, they wanted to charge me $75 to the hem on the logic that it is akin to 50 pant hems. That was a ridiculous quote; I took it to my dry cleaners and they hemmed it for $28. I was also worried that their reference point was men's pants. It does appear to be mainly what they do -- men's clothing. And with the heels, since I was there anyway, I decided I'd leave them. They said that they'd charge $8 per strap, and there were 2 that needed fixing. They said they'd be ready by the following Saturday. I went, the Tuesday after the Saturday, and they apologized saying that the person who worked on them was very sick. I am sorry that someone close to them was ill, but I thought it was very unprofessional of them not to call or let me know. I called the following Saturday, the shoes having been in their care for 2 weeks now, and asked if they were ready. The man apologized again, saying that their uncle was still ill. I have sympathy, but what bothered me immensely was that if I gave them 30 minutes, they'd fix them for me. I thought - if it's only a 30 minute job, why didn't they take care of it 2 weeks ago? I declined, and told them to please not work on my shoes. I realize they may be experiencing some sort of hardship, but it is not an excuse for poor customer service. I've been to shops where, to make sure that they meet their deadlines, they pay for something to be handled at another shop. At the very least, they inform me so I don't have to waste my time. I will not be back. Maybe, if I were hemming pants like men's pants, or if I lived right by them, I'd give them another shot, but this was not a good first (and only) experience. read more

As the son of an "old school" Italian tailor to celebrities and Presidents, I'm very picky about my alterations. Spoiled i guess you could say. Then I found Maestro's. Reuben and Christina do a fantastic job. Reuben is precise in his artwork. I've had many suits and pants tailored there with perfect results. The best kept secret in the SGV is the custom-made shirts that Reuben makes. Prepare to be spoiled by a perfect fitting, comfortable shirt. If you wear a tie every day, this is a MUST. Need an old world tailor this is the place. We had a very good experience here. First my husband hadmade a custom pants and shirts, then he decided to try a custom suit. We went to Maestro to pick a fabric, we were amazed he showed us the best quality fabrics from different countries( made in Italy, made in England....).We picked a wool cashmere super 180's for my husband's suit. He got the measurements and told us he needs to do at least two fittings and it will be ready in one month. A week later we got a phone call for the first fitting . The jacket was on a mannequin with a lot of handstitched marks on it. My husband tried the jacket and the pants. He marked the pants that required adjustments with some chalk. The jacket was perfect. He told us to come back in two weeks. He doesn't need the second fitting. My husband was pretty impressed. We came back in two weeks, the suit was ready .My husband tried it again it fitted perfectly. He was very pleased with the work. We left the shop and definitely coming back. Cannot say enough about how great their custom tailoring is. First, I had a dress altered at the last minute, and it was perfect and on time. So then my husband had a tailored suit made (Bespoke style), and it was better than any work in Beverly Hills! Amazing work. He also had a custom shirt done, which was as perfect as the suit. And he then got a semi custom tuxedo and is thrilled. Not only was the service great and the work top quality, but the price was as quoted. And they are nice! Highly recommend. Took a pair of knit pants in for hemming. Only took them 30 seconds to mark them - which had me a little concerned, but when I got them back they were quite properly hemmed to the perfect length with a very nicely finished edge. A job well done, and delivered on the day promised. My only gripe is that $18 seems a bit pricey for a simple hemming job, but it was stretchy fabric, which can be tricky, and is the reason I wouldn't try to do it myself. I decided to purchase a tuxedo for my wedding. I simply wanted a traditional tuxedo that fit well. I went to all the big name men's clothing stores, only to find lots of modern designs and slim-fit tuxedos. I tried all the department stores too, but found the same thing. I was really starting to wonder what I was going to do; I'm not a big guy, but definitely not a slim-fit guy. I wasn't sure that I could afford a custom tuxedo, but I went into Maestro's to see what he could do. Ruben offered me a number of options, from complete bespoke to a ready-made tuxedo that he would custom fit. I decided to go with the later option, which was an Italian tuxedo made from a very high quality fabric. Ruben took all my measurements, and then completely customized the tuxedo to my fit. Since I received high recommendations from friends & family, I took in my favorite "Brioni" blazer to maestro. The tailor, "Robert" told me in order to fit the jacket perfectly he has to do what's called a "re cut" and it would take 2-3 weeks. I agreed with the price and left my jacket with them, I was a little worried because it was a pretty pricey blazer but he was very confident that he can make it fit me the way I wanted. After a week I received a phone call to go for fitting again, when I got there I saw my blazer almost completely different with a lot of hand stitched marks on it. I tried the blazer on, the sleeves and collar were a bit off, he marked the parts that required adjustment with some chalk and told me to return in a week. A week later I returned again and saw my blazer on a mannequin, tried it on, and I was pretty impressed, the jacket fit me like it was custom made for me! I was completely satisfied, and because they did such a great job, I decided to order some custom slacks and a shirt to go along with my blazer. After that, 2 weeks later I picked up my pants and shirt. They fit me perfectly as the jacket! These guys really know what they are doing, sometimes the mom and pop shops seem to be better suited for this kind of job than a lot of the other big chains who just quickly try to get your money, usually doing a very terrible job in the end.
